The sexiest monsters humanity has invented, the vampires, have been haunting our imagination since times immemorial, and are not planning to leave us any time soon. (I just had this Mel Brooks-type flash vision of a spaceship window and a garlic string floating near it). Being more of a role-player “world of darkness” type of vampire aficionado (Malkavian for life!), I must admit that I had some trouble understanding Anne Rice’s vision from the getgo, finding her characters in the world of the Vampire Chronicles too damn sensitive and emotional (yes, overly explicit displays of emotions are the real horror in my book!). In time, as wisdom comes with age, I have slowly but surely succumbed to her charm, and I find joy in re-visiting the first books of the series and, of course, re-watching the iconic “Interview with the Vampire” – the ’94 blockbuster starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

No surprise then, that when I found out there was a perfume house that was inspired by cinema, I knew I had to have the “vampire one” as soon as possible.

I take vampire stories (dead) seriously, and the same goes for roses. If I can be a bit of a “vampire snob”,  I am far less specific when it comes to roses – just give them all to me: bright, dark, sweet like confiture, dusty and somber, covered in incense or spiked in patchouli, engulfed in oud, or just shining soliflores – I just love them all! The type of rose present in Olibere Dangerous Rose is from the dark rose clan that is – by far- closest to my heart.

The opening draws you in with a seemingly innocent and mouthwatering mixture of passion fruit and bergamot, mixed in with the playful sting of pink pepper and cinnamon, for that carnal and seductive “come hither” spell.

Once you are trapped, its true character will prevail: a crimson red rose, laced with the opulent depth of oud, in a fabulous crescendo of seemingly contrasting moods that feed of each other: the dark consuming desire of young vivid hunger juxtaposed with the aching melancholy of an old world that refuses to fade out .“I was a newborn vampire weeping at the beauty of the night”. Patchouli, labdanum, and musks unite for a truly atmospheric drydown, that reads on my skin as a decadent imaginary trip to a Southern Gothic setting, brooding yet strangely comforting.

Olibere Dangerous Rose is a spicy rose with irreverent spirit and modern character that is built on the classic rose-oud-patch combo, but with enough rock-n-roll pizzazz to make it different. Smiling maliciously, with crimson red lipstick hiding some pointy fangs, a hint of properly pale powdered cheeks, surrounded by the warmth of spices, dressed in intricate Victorian laced embroidery paired with latex and leather, this one is a rose with brains, deliciously dark humor, a nod to the past classics, and a wink to the future.

    Oh boy! I enjoyed so much this Nicoleta’s review because I am a huge passionate about vampire and roses myself. I started reading Anne Rice novels when I was a teenager and the movie is a classic I love watching every Halloween.
    About the fragrance, this one really sound very intriguing for the dark roses and the twist it has. A truly masterpiece that even a vampire would enjoy. Would love to win it.

    I liked the whole review a lot but I think It is very interesting when she explains how the perfume is built over a tradicional rose/oud combo but with the addiction of new modern elements which give a very special carácter to the fragrance. This is for me one of the BEST Olibere perfumes!

    Rose and oud is a classic pair. It is interesting how this concept is built upon by adding the deep base notes and especially passion fruit! It sounds sexy and fit for a vampire. I live in Denmark, EU.

    Always drawn to the dark and the curious, the unseen and the edges, how could Nicoleta’s words fail to move me. Captivated by her writing I would love to wear this one on flesh. Any rose centric perfume that crosses boundaries and exhibits those darker aspects of this often portrayed flower of innocent feminity sparks my interest.     OMG! Rose and oud combo is by far my favourite one and I always try to get my nose on interesting variation thereof! “a nod to the past classics, and a wink to the future” sounds like perfect hint to my ear. I was reading this review like some kind of movie trailer which sparked my interest so badly! Thank you for such a beautiful but nevertheless very informative note-wise review!

    I am not really familiar with vampire related characters but I appreciated Nicoleta’s comparison of notes and cinematic characters. Olibere Dangerous Rose sounds delightful with a rose-Oud-patchouli combination. Not familiar with Olibere fragrances but will be willing to try other fragrances from the house.

    Love the VtM reference! It’s always nice to see a fellow vampire appreciator. This fragrance sounds absolutely captivating, especially since I’m a huge fan of Interview (book and movie), not to mention dark oudy roses – especially ones that hide underneath innocuous top notes of passionfruit and bergamot.     As a lover of anything dark, gothic, mysterious and atmospheric, I am all in even after seeing the flacon and the fonts in the first collage by Nicoleta. I have grown to appreciate roses in perfumery more and more with age, my favorite being the dark, deep, mature, a bit smoky kind and then the oriental jammy-powdery one. I love how Nicoleta describes Dangerous Rose as one ‘with brains, deliciously dark humor, a nod to the past classics, and a wink to the future’. That’s exactly the kind of rose I am after! I love the modern twist on the classic rose-oud-patchouli combo, it makes Dangerous Rose stand out in the crowd. The accompanying notes are a dream come true for me too.     I admire Luca Maffei, his sense of humor and taste for gourmand accords. Here, in seemingly classic rose-oud fragrance, we also see not so usual passion fruit. From the brand I have sampled only Chemical Love, also created by Luca Maffei and enjoyed its cocaine accord.

    Being more of a white floral kinda person, I am not particularly impressed by promises of a perfect rose. Yet, this one which is sprinkled with cinnamon and labdanum (two favorite notes of mine that I am always happy to find in a perfume), surrounded with an aura of mystery and which instantly makes you plunge into some unknown, yet delightful layers of darkness really had me daydreaming.
    I hope I get to smell it.

    Oh my goodness, Leather Attraction was an amazing fragrance, I can only imagine how well Olibere have interpreted the essence of vampires and their lore through the lens of roses!

    The most interesting to me is the vision of a vampire encapsulated in this fragrance. I’ve always were imagining that a vampire would smell like a rotten creature reeking of iron. Didn’t really think about them in romantic sense. That would be a journey if there would be a flanker of this one that would smell like the most vicious vampire in the world. Who knows, maybe it’s already planned. I live in Poland.

    From Nicoleta’s review, I liked the reference to the cinema and the insertion of the perfume creator’s comment. It’s just like that. Olfactory, the perfume carries us over the centuries and helps us almost feel the velvet red curtains in those vast saloons, more obscure than lit in those times. And the combination with cinema, which visually shows us the path through this scene, can only lead to ecstasy.
    They are both giving us the chance to travel without leaving our house. They both encapsulate our desire for an alter ego. I was in a town from Transylvania, but now living in the capital city of Romania. Never met a vampire, yet. But would like to travel a few centuries back.

    Nicoleta take on Olibere Dangerous Rose reminded me of my last visit to Paris. Of course we , I mean me and my girlfriend, went to one of my favorite places in the city, to my teacher , and mentor Pierre Hermè shop , where we had Cardamom Passion Fruit Creme Brûlée . The mixture of the dark roses i bought for my girl, and the Creme Brûlée is how I imagine Dangerous Rose would smell.

    Nicoleta if you happen to read this, Clan Lasombra > Clan Malkavian , a joke very few , other than Nicoleta and me would get.
    Rose and patchouli is a timeless combination I’d never get tired of ,if done right. I’m interested in Dangerous Rose because of the contrast between the effervescent, bright opening, and the dark , and Gothic patchouli-rose base .

    What sparks my interest based on Nicoleta’s review is Marjorie Olibere the founder of Olibere Parfums made a Manifesto based on her passion for perfumes as well as cinema. Her extrait collection is based on connecting films to perfumery. For Dangerous Rose it has to do with vampires. She transforms a traditional Rose and Oud fragrance and livens and modernizes it to catch our attention. I would love the opportunity to try this fragrance. I own Chemical Love from the same collection and love it. I am from the USA.

    First of all, thank you Nicoleta for introducing me to Olibere Paris. I didn’t know the brand before but thanks to you, I explored the website and I, as a cinema lover, absolutely like the Marjorie’s idea behind her brand. I rewatched “Vampire diaries” recently and I like how Nicoleta faithfully reflects the atmosphere of the movie with her description of the scent. The notes combination in Dangerous Rose seems amazing. Love passion fruit, pink pepper and cardamon and patchouli. And of course The Queen – Rose. I live in Poland EU.

    As someone who has always loved all things dark and gothic, your review definitely piqued my interest. I devoured every Ann Rice book, may she rest in peace, from the time I first heard of her as a young teenager and have always loved a good vampire story. The fact that this perfume also sounds beautiful and luxurious doesn’t hurt either! The combination of wood and rose is such a classic, and while that isn’t a bad thing, I always like to see perfumers put their own spin on it as well and this sounds heavenly. Although perhaps that isn’t the right word haha

    What an evocative review – I am a HUGE Anne Rice fan and was really sad when she died. She was the absolute Queen of Gothic and the Vampire Chronicles are my favourite of all her works. I watch the film at least once a year, it’s wonderful. So a perfume inspired by vampires and cinema? Oh yes please, bite me now. The opening sounds so sweet and innocent and then we get drawn in and seduced by the dark and classic rose, oud and patchouli. The addition of my beloved labdanum makes it even more seductive. Sounds to die for……

    Time sure flies, but at least fragrances like Olibere Dangerous Rose will never get old. Spicy rose, juicy fruits ,leather and patch , such perfumes will never get out of style.

    Gorgeous review Nicoleta! What sparks my interest about Nicoleta’s review is how well it reflects the movie Interview with a Vampire, with it’s juxtaposition of initial innocence of fresh juicy fruit and sparkling bergamot morphing into a dark, deep rose that is both dangerous and yet melancholy, on a base of moody patchouli and rich labdanum. This gorgeous and gothic juxtaposition of dark and light sounds absolutely stunning and I am particularly partial to dark roses, as well as loving the movie Interview with a Vampire. This is definitely going to the top of my list to try. I live in the US.
