The winners of the Third Annual Art and Olfaction Awards on Saturday, May 7, 2016 were announced in an open-to-the-public event at Hammer Museum, in Los Angeles.    On May 6, 2016 a panel discussion  was held  (which was live streamed; click here to watch the discussion  rated MA)  moderated by the Institute of Art and Olfaction  Founder and Director, Saskia Wilson Brown where scent notables including author Lizzie Ostrom aka Odette Toillette,  Dr. Jaqueline Ford Morie, Dr. Avery Gilbert  and Chandler Burr shared their knowledge of the history, culture, pyschology and science of how smell works.   Topics included: "Scent as Art",  can there be or is there  a "language" to describe olfaction.   Panelist Chandler Burr was very vocal  in dismissing  Natural Perfume; he was quite adamant that any form of botanical perfumery is NOT Art.  The  evening was the kickoff of the AIX Scent Fair May 8-9, 2016 where independent, natural and artisan perfumers exhibited their fragrances.

  • I never heard of the artisan winners so I will need to check them out. I have many of Dr Covey perfumes and now will try Bat. I also like Luca Maffei Garuda and aquasala for Gabriella Chieffo
    Will want to try more
Congratulations and thanks for the announcement

Thank you for sharing the excitement and for the photos. It is a treat to see the faces of these artists whose names are familiar.

  • Holy cow I watched that live stream
What is wrong with Chandler Burr calling something “retarded”
I have a brother who is mentally challenged and I am highly insulted
Nice to see Ellen Covey I am a big fan
