The 7 Virtues Rose Amber Review + Peace on Earth Draw

I imagine most of us are wishing and hoping for Peace on Earth in 2019. With that in mind, it is comforting to know that Canadian based perfumery The 7 Virtues, established in 2010 by award winning entrepreneur and author Barb Stegemann, whose vision of a perfume business was formed when her friend was wounded in Afghanistan. Barb  is actively trying to make our dreams of world justice, equality and peace come true in the New Year.

The company mission statement "Make Perfume Not War" reflects their commitment to Peace On Earth! The 7 Virtues is dedicated to bringing Wonder, Moderation, Truth, Courage, Justice, Wisdom and Beauty to the creation, distribution and sales of perfume. In an effort to support local farmers and tribesmen The 7 Virtues uses fair trade and ethically sourced natural materials from war-torn countries around the world. In addition to their original 2010 line of fragrances, Barb Stegemann and perfumers Angela Stavrevska and Julie Pluchet have created seven new perfumes based on natural essential oils

The Peace Blend Box includes their Orange Blossom and 7 Virtues Rose Amber fragrances featuring ingredients from Afghanistan, the Vetiver Elemi perfume using materials from Haiti, Grapefruit Lime from the gardens and orchards of Israel and Iran, Patchouli Citrus from Rwanda, Jasmine Neroli from India and Vanilla Woods from Madagascar.  Each perfume can be used alone or paired, layered and blended for even more possibilities. While I love and have been wearing them all, I find myself reaching for the same spray vial again and again – The 7 Virtues Rose Amber.  Perhaps I am drawn to this fragrance because, as a young woman, I lived for several years in Iran, occasionally visiting nearby Afghanistan. It could be that the scent of Rose Amber revives memories of rose gardens, bazaars large and small, and of streets lined with the shops of perfume sellers. Whatever my personal reasons, there is no doubt in my mind that The 7 Virtues Rose Amber is a masterfully done contemporary take on traditional Middle Eastern roses.

My first experience of  Rose Amber truly surprised me. The perfume was not the rich, viscous oriental I had expected but rather a subtle delicate breath of rose, ethereal and fresh.  This rose begins cool, like the perfume of a newly opened blossom at dawn, before the sun warms the petals. The slightly green and bitter notes of neroli and bergamot combine with the uplifting zing of pink pepper, cassis, the exquisite powdery floral qualities of orris and newly opened rosebuds, creating an impression of sunrise in the rose garden.

The morning progresses and the sun begins to heat up the land. The 7 Virtues Rose Amber unfolds into boozy dried fruity aromas of davana touched with cinnamon and the scent of the full-blown Rosa damascena. Damask roses have been grown in Afghanistan for hundreds of years.

Recently, because of government funded projects and socially responsible companies like The 7 Virtues, rose farming is starting to outpace the cultivation of opium poppies.

After a few hours, the sun over the rose garden reaches its zenith. Soon the warm, spicy scents of afternoon roses settle into the musky sweetness of Jasmine grandiflorum, amber and sandalwood, carrying The 7 Virtues Rose Amber toward a vivid sunset.  At last night falls – and over the mountains and high plateaus of Afghanistan we find our beautiful Afghani roses basking in the moonlight, charming the spirits of the evening air with wisps of warm amber, creamy vanilla and tendrils of earthy sweet vetiver.

Notes: Pink pepper, cassis, neroli, bergamot, davana, rose, cinnamon, orris, jasmine, lavender, amber, sandalwood, vanilla, vetiver and patchouli.

Disclaimer: I would like to thank The 7 Virtues and Barb Stegemann for the beautiful Peace Blend Box of fragrances.  My opinions are my own.

  • My husband is an army veteran and was deployed 2008-2009 in Iraq.
And if I would win The Peacebox, I’ll tell him to live in present and not live in the past. We can make a difference in this world without holding grudges or hate because of your past. He struggles until now plus just this month his comrade took his own life.

The notes of the peace blend box are lovely.

We live in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.

Thank you for this opportunity to win.

  • How do I register? I like the way that Gail links the scents with the geography, the politics, the economy, and the climate!

  • How do I register? I like the way that Gail links the scents with the geography, the politics, the economy, and the climate! I live in eastern Canada, outside of Montreal, Quebec.

  • I applaud the efforts of this group to bring an economy to many of these war-torn places. Sourcing these fragrances from parts of the world that are poverty stricken and/or contending with war every day is admirable. Should I win I would I would love to receive the Peace Blend box. Thank you so much for the review and for the draw. An especial thank you for bringing this company to our attention and its worthwhile presence. I’m in the USA

  • For those looking to register, registration is on the website near the top of the right hand column, directly under “Cafleurebon Login”.

  • I first saw Barb Stegemann on Dragons Den and was so happy when Brett partnered with her! She’s an amazing woman and entrepreneur! I’ve always wanted to try her perfumes! The Peace Blend Box that Gail described so beautifully would be a treat to win! #Girlpower I’m from Regina, SK Canada

  • There are quite several attractive notes for me in this rose fragrance. I’ve been used to the usual oriental type of rose that most fragrance houses pursue but this is another take as to the description. I really love orris and vetiver, and to have them paired with Rose is really intriguing. I would love to have the Rose Amber roller. I’m at USA.

  • -US resident

-would choose variety of peace box over rollerball of one

-i love that a perfume meant to recreate a middle eastern rose gave a woman who lived there an olfactory flash of Afghani roses. That’s powerful perfume!

Thanks for draw and great review. Smell swell & be well,

  • What a great review, and most of all, I love the 7 Virtues’ mission statement and the fact 7 Virtues that they use fair trade and ethically sourced natural materials from war-torn countries. I saw Barb on Dragon’s Den and I was really rooting for her!
I would love to get a chance to smell her creations (I would like the Blend Box instead of the rollerball) and I live in Canada.

  • I live in Kingston, Ontario Canada. What appeals most to me about Gail’s review to start is the beautiful imagery she invoked, both of the lovely scents within the perfume but also of the beauty of Afghanistan. I love that she highlights the purpose of the perfume, which is economic stability through perfume as opposed to the opium trade. I love how the author has us visualize each note as it pertains to the land. I personally love so many of these notes, Rosa Damascena (the rarest of the Rose oils), jasmine, neroli, sandalwood are all favourites of mine. I know I Wood love this perfume by the breakdown of the oils and by the vivid description of each scent and how these scents linger and flourish throughout the day. I myself have purchased the 7 Virtues Orange Blossom perfume and loved it. I would love an opportunity try all of these gorgeous and inspiring scents!

  • I absolutely love 7 Virtues!! I have purchased many different scents and also hsve the book! Barb is a wonderful person and I seen her on Dragons Den! • It is always great to find another fragrance company that is based in Canada. It would be wonderful to really like some of their fragrances. If I win, I would like the Peace Blend Box so that I can check out the whole selection. Thanks. I live in Canada.

  • I recall Andy Tauer used Afghan rose in a body oil. I’ve been wanting to see what it smells like. It also sounds appealing since it does not seem like a heady or overbearing scent, but doesnt seem weak either.
I’d like to get the peace blend box if I win.

Im in the US. thanks for the draw

What appeals to me most about Gail’s review of The 7 Virtues Rose Amber is the mention of the different ingredients from all over the world! I would prefer the roller ball of Rose Amber. I’m in the U.S.

  • I like 7 Virtues fun take on “Make Love Not War” and I seriously like their philosophy of fair trade in war-torn areas and use of natural oils. They should be supported. Roses that go from morning to night – lovely. I would want The Peacebox though to try them all. In the USA.

  • More coherently this time. I like the way that Gail links the scents with the geography, the politics, the economy, and the climate! I live in eastern Canada, outside of Montreal, Quebec. I would prefer the peace box, I believe it is called the 7 Virtues.
