Oscars Spotlight Part 3: Ajne Perfumes “Lakshmi and the Red Carpet” + Lakshmi & Bella Sample Draw

I love the Oscars and always watch them. I would love to walk on the Red Carpet with the celebrities and be a star. Just once. We found out from Mark Behnke what many of the celebrities may be wafting for the 83rd Academy Awards. This is Hollywood, world of dualities, haute fashion, haute jewelry but a love for natural foods and cars that run on solar energy.

It makes 'scents' that many bold face names would wear a natural fragrance and Ajne Perfumes gets the award for Best Natural scent worn by A-Listers, including Kate Hudson, Kate Walsh, Felicity Huffman, Terence Howard (Hustle and Flow won a Best Song Oscar for 'Its Hard Out There For a Pimp') and so many more celebrities.

One of the fragrances seemed to call my name…Lakshmi which was created for our very own Editor-in Chief- Michelyn Camen. I wonder if she ever dreamed that Kerry Washington and Molly Sims would be wearing her personal scent. According to Academy Award Winning Marlee Matlin and (Children of a Lesser God with William Hurt) ,"Molly Sims was so friendly and really complimentary. She tried on and liked a number of scents and ultimately selected Lakshmi".

Lakshmi. was named by Michelyn for the Hindi Goddess of prosperity, generosity and charm. Her four hands represent four spiritual virtues as she sits on a fully blossomed lotus, a seat of divine truth.. An aura of divine happiness, mental and spiritual satisfaction, and success surrounds her.

A fitting name for such a beautiful fragrance.

Actress Molly Sims

Lakshmi is the most expensive fragrance in the Ajne line. According to Jane Hendler, the perfumer and owner of Ajne,"Lakshmi was created sparing no expense" to honor Michelyn's passion and love of fine fragrance, no matter the price tag, The best of every ingredient was a MUST!

After trying Lakshmi several years ago, before my affiliation with CaFleureBon, it became a signature scent for me.

Lakshmi is an absolutely gorgeous yet, complex fragrance. When I wear Lakshmi, I am whirled into the scent of quality and passion! It starts out with a chiffon blanket of a dark blood orange that deepens as my skin absorbs this scent of a goddess! Ever so gently, my inner chakra is awakened with middle notes of delicately scented petals of Bulgarian Rosa Damascena dusted with a light layer of Indian Lotus and Magnolia. As I am pulled deeper into the grasp of Lakshmi, I am surrounded in the warmth of Sandalwood, African Cacao, Orris and Amber and a touch of Vanilla, a final wave of a slightly floriental bliss!

Lakshmi is such a beautiful fragrance. Being in the presence of such a high quality scent will lift you to your highest self as it helps you open yourself to life's never ending journey! The scent is like a fine jewel, enveloped with beauty and admiration. The ingredients blend so smoothly together. From the top note of Blood Orange to the base notes of Sandalwood, African Cacao, Orris, Amber and hint of Vanilla, I was gently transitioned deeper into this fragrance nirvana!

Lakshmi compliments my skin perfectly, as it warms my soul with a unique combination of ingredients and leaves all passersby wondering why they become instantly addicted to the beauty and warmth of such an inviting scent.

Editor’s Note: No I had no idea celebrities would wear Lakshmi; I had hoped that it would be worn by everyone so they would understand the opulence and complexity in a natural fragrance. I met Jane when she opened her boutique at Bergdorf Goodman and was instantly attracted to her amazing personality. We kept up our friendship through email and through hugs at Sniffapolooza events. I also chose this cuff by my ex boss Kimberly McDonald, who has created jewelry worn by Kim Cattrall, Sara Jessica Parker and for Halle Berry, the first African American actress to win an Oscar (for her performance in Monster Ball). Kimberly shares many of the same principles as Jane and is a strong believer in Chakra Energy. In fact her line originally was called “Rock-ras”. Molly Sims also appeared on the February cover of More magazine, whose Editor in Chief is ex colleague Lesley Jane Seymour!!! SUCH ABUNDANCE

"Om shrim Maha Lakshmiyea Swaha" is my personal mantra.

Our draw is for one sample of Ajne’s Lakshmi and one sample of Bella (Ajne's latest) to one commentor.

Please leave a comment about Natural fragrances, Jane Hendler Ajne perfumess, Your personal mantra or favorite Hindi Deity Kerry Washington, Marlee Matlin, Molly Sims, Your pick for Best Actress, More Magazine or Kimberly McDonald. Draw ends Monday February 28, 2011

  • Very nice Claudia=) I have never had the opportunity to sniff any of the Ajne fragrances. I need to remedy this. I always learn so much from reading here at Cafleurebon! Beautiful jewelry too Kimberly! DO you have a website? And lastly, I need a mantra!

  • Claudia Kroyer says:

Thank you Holly…….. the website for the beautiful jewels is.kimberlymcdonald.com
Ajne is truly a masterpiece and the Ajne bottles are such beautiful works of art too. And it was made for Michelyn !!!

  • Courtney Warren says:

This was such a beautiful and uplifting write-up! I felt like I had the fragrance in hand and was literally being guided through the journey of the Lakshmi's "layers"! I could almost smell it through the screen! I can't wait to go through yet another year of watching the Oscars and experience all of the excitement and mystery of who is going to be the best and worst dressed celebrities!

  • wonderful article.
Actually Hattie McDaniel was the first African American to win an Oscar.  Ms. Berry won for actress in leading role.  Just an important piece of groundbreaking history.

  • Nice article Claudia…I adore de Lavande from Ajne (one of my fav lavenders ever-that says a lot). As for the Oscars, goodness, I would have no idea-I'm so behind on movies unless it's rated PG, it isn't funny.

  • I would love to wear this enticing scent. It sounds so dark and mysterious. I enjoyed reading the article. what a wonderful blog and that it was made for Ms. Camen, wow. I never tried ajne scents before. Love the editor’s note connecting everyone back to perfume

  • lovethescents says:

Wonderful, Claudia, thank you!  I am a fan of Ajne…if only I could visit Carmel!  I have never tried Lakshmi, was always afraid of the price tag.  These fragrances are made with such high quality ingredients….only the nose knows…(sorry, I couldn't resist!)

  • i agree with ajne lakshmi being wonderful.
actually, here, with this perfume, orginates my interest in floral scents (thank you michelyn 🙂

i think i will wear it right now.
(no need to enter me for the lakshmi draw, i am the happy owner of a  bottle.
but i would love to try her latest.)

  • p.s. michely, since my beloved lakshmi was made for you —
and you love micallef's mon parfum —

  • Your blog had already intrigued me with the description of Bella, and now I'm entranced by this description of Lakshmi – a goddess I was already rather attached to. Please do enter me in this draw!

  • How cool would it be to have someone make a perfume just for you with the finest ingredients and price be damned!  And this one sounds like a beauty.

I've admired Marlee Matlin since "Children of a Lesser God".  She hasn't let deafness define her or stop her.

  • Lovely write-up Claudia! You're a natural at this sort of thing!! ( I don't know where you find the time!)
I'm not up on movies….or actresses for that matter…but I do drool over Anje fragrances on a disturbingly regular basis. (optimistic web-browsing you know) I've not yet tested a single one BUT reading this is making my nose quiver in excitement!  Oh lordy, someone hide the credit cards!

  • Kudo's Claudia! Loved this article. I have not had the pleasure of experiencing Ajne's creations, but I love the compostion of this one. Sounds wonderful. Working in Naturals myself I love that she uses naturals as well. Working with naturals can be more difficult. Her bottles are are absolutely Beautiful.
Personal Mantra Om Mani Padme Hum…..

  • Claudia Kroyer says:

Thank you for all the nice compliments. Its always fun to hear what others think of a fragrance i love already. LOL @ Ruth…tempting you??? Well to all that have tried Lakshmi, you already know its beautiful.

  • I was so pleased that Claudia chose Lakshmi to review .  It  feels wonderful to have  natural pefumery gain wider recognitond and  to see a perfume created for me  touch so many  of our readers

  • Claudia Kroyer says:

It was wonderful of Michelyn to give me the opportunity to write the review on Ajne Lakshmi the fragrance that was created for her. The write up was a collaboration between us and of course Michelyn picked the beautiful art and pictures since she truly knows how to work art into a fun piece like this.

  • I've never tried Ajne, so I'd love to win this draw! I have so many natural fragrance loves! Right now, I'm wearing Anya's Garden Pan. I also adore Liz Zorn (Love Speaks Primeval is my favorite) and Mandy Aftel's scents (Parfum de Maroc). But on the less expensive side, I think Jane Cate makes extremely high quality scents – and one can afford to try them all! :o) Thanks for the article, Claudia (even though I am oblivious to the Oscars and movies in general!).

  • These scents sounds wonderful. I fance't tred this line. My latest venture into naturals is Aftelier – yummy stuff.

My Hindu deity is Ganesh, remover of obstacles – need that sometimes!

  • chayaruchama says:

    Love your mantra, lady.
[ Love Ganesh, Ma Durga, and Lord Hanuman, too.]
    What a great article !

  • Claudia! What have you done! I *thought* I was done with rose fragrances…naughty girl. This sounds divine…

  • Oh, oh, oh! How amazing.
Natural fragrances have broken me… they are so far removed from wholly-synthetics it's the difference between a Monet and a "painting" you buy in the department store.

  • I hope the Oscar goes to… Annette Bening wearing Bijan!
I would love to try one of these fragrances. I have never tried Ajne but  I will definitely do so after such a wonderful review.

  • Carlos Powell says:

Another great review Claudia. Given our similar taste (for the most part) I'm sure this well be one to try. How wonderful that this was created for Michelyn. 🙂

  • I'm pretty sure that Natalie Portman will win Best Actress. I didn't like Black Swan a lot, but her acting is stunning.
I have only tried one Ajne scent (Nectar) and I love it! It's the best natural fragrance I have ever smelt.
I would love to be entered in the draw to have the chance to try Lakshmi or Bella. Both must be wonderful.
    Thanks!

  • Beautiful review! Lakshmi – I love the idea of naming a perfume after a goddess, especially one that has such great attributes, plus the scent sounds amazing!

  • This was made for, Michelyn…how cool!  Lakshmi, is a fragrance that I have been wanting to try.  For, some reason, I just haven't gotten to it.  This is one draw, I would love to win.

  • This fragrance sounds right up my floriental alley! And how amazing that it was created for Michelyn, our fabulous editrix!

  • This goes right up my alley 🙂  I've been thinking of Lakshmi recently and how she would be "scented"  It sounds absolutely fabulous!  I had no idea Ajne made YOU a fragrance!  How delightful <3

  • I am also totally passionate with natural scents and unfortunately in today's  perfumery it is  difficult to find non synthetics scents –
Never heard of Lakshmi [shame on me] and would love to try it so i could proudly perfume my body again with a great scent.
I love the name of the Godesse – pure classic.
Is it available in New Orleans, Louisiana ?
Halle Berry – don't know if she is nominated 🙂

  • A gentle person, a person who does not engage in a lot of conflict, because of a trip to San Francisco museum of Asian art, of all other Hindu deities I got connected with Durga and Kali.  They are very different from the Greek goddesses of my childhood, Aphrodite being the favorite, Hera the one discovered later in life, but they have a place in my heart.  Yay, slayer of the demons!!
Never tried Ajne.  Like Tama, I ventured into Afteliers.  I am a big fan of DSH, but if I am not mistaken, not all her stuff is all natural.  Thanks for the draw!

  • I wish I'd read this enticing review couple of months ago before I visited Carmel! Claudia, thank you for the article, I'll put that perfume on my "to try" list.

  • Very nice post! I confess i don't know who Molly Sims is (sorry!), but I love the goddess Lakshmi and the scent sounds amazing! I've never tried an Ajne scent. I will say that my favorite Hindu deity is probably sweet Ganesh, with the elephant head. And yes, I often watch the Oscars and just enjoy the spectacle — I'm a movie-lover at heart. Thanks for the draw!

  • I would love to entering the drawing. I have tried several Ajne scents and enjoyed them. My favorite natural perfumer is Yosh Han. She is a lovely person and I think her work is stunning.

  • Lovely post, Claudia, Lakshmi sounds absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to have the chance to test it sometime.
