One of the most fruitful partnership in all of perfumery is between Creative Director Joe Garces and perfumer Aurelien Guichard for Robert Piguet. Ever since M. Guichard participated in the renewal of Baghari in 2006 theirs has been a true partnership which has lead Robert Piguet back to a position of prominence. One of the things which makes it work so well is that there is a very simple communication between Mr. Garces and the artist who will realize the vision. For their latest it is once again simplicity which leads to something special. Mr. Garces realized there wasn’t a rose centered fragrance within the Robert Piguet collection. By asking that question of M. Guichard Rose Perfection de Robert Piguet resulted.

Rose is often the star, of a fragrance, but it usually carries a significant supporting cast. For Rose Perfection M. Guichard took a different tack by stripping away everything else and just blending Bulgarian Rose with different rose absolutes. This results in a surprising synergy where each rose component simultaneously enhances and contrasts the other.

Bulgarian rose (rosa damascena) contains a pronounced spicy facet and that is what is on display in the earliest moments. I also find the Bulgarian version of rose to be warmer than other varieties and that is also at work in the opening. Then it seems like there are a number of other rose facets which start to interact. There is a heady sweet aspect which contrasts the natural piquancy. There is a pronounced sparkle and that contrasts a subtle jasmine-like quality. In and out, the ebb and flow of Rose Perfection seems to contain everything you like if you’re a rose fragrance lover. It is an ever evolving fragrance and it never seems to stand still until the very end when a bit of musk grabs it in a bear hug. Over the final phases of development Rose Perfection becomes a little more human and less perfect but still memorable.

Rose Perfection has overnight longevity and above average sillage.

Rose Perfection is as simple a fragrance as you could imagine; it is just rose. While in a lesser artist’s hands just rose could be pedestrian. In M. Guichard’s hands it is an examination of rose as if it was a priceless diamond asking you to examine it from all angles searching for a flaw. The best part of Rose Perfection de Robert Piguet is that search is fruitless as it is a flawless gem of the highest quality.
