New Fragrance Review: Daniella 4D Perfume Oil + The Tide is High Draw

If asked to describe my dream day, I would begin and end at the beach. Though we now know that lying out in the sun isn’t good for the skin (we have  beauty tips on how to  get your glow on sans soleil here), it’s still one of the greatest tactile pleasures life has to offer. Sun, sand and surf melt your tension away, and enlisting someone’s help in applying SPF adds another dimension of sensuality. A new fragrance called 4D by diva Daniella Pavicic, who had Billboard’s #1 dance record in 2008, perfectly captures that experience.

The genesis for Daniella 4D comes from a less pleasant experience we’ve all shared. When the singer’s favorite fragrance was discontinued, she initially vowed to recreate it someday.  Over time, the idea morphed into a fragrance inspired by her former signature scent but updated to represent the woman she’d become. Daniella ultimately collaborated with Robin Coe-Hutshing, (the founder of Memoire Liquide and co-founder of Studio Beautymix at Fred Segal), to create 4D, a pure perfume oil and the result is divine.

Where I come from every beach has a boardwalk, and the sea, sun and skin scents mix with delicious food odors like cotton candy and roasted peanuts as you stroll down the boardwalk at dusk.  Daniella 4D has notes that evoke all of these sensations.

It opens fresh with cucumber and cassis mixed with a rich coconut evocative of the expensive kind of suntan lotion you can only buy at a posh Caribbean Island resort.  At this stage you can imagine splashing and kissing your lover in the water. When heart notes of bitter chocolate and almond blossom bloom, you’ve gone back to your beach blanket to dry in the sun. 4D by Daniella ultimately dries down into a sexy sandalwood/patchouli skin scent that reminds me of the market stalls on my favorite boardwalk. Longevity is excellent, and sillage is noticeable. Best of all, since it’s a perfume oil, you can slip the chic little rollerball into your beach bag and wear the scent in the sun without worrying about skin discoloration. (4D is also available as a scented candle so on those days when you can’t get to the beach you can enjoy the atmosphere at home).

Notes: sandalwood, bitter chocolate, marine accord, cucumber, bourgeons de cassis, musk, leather, coconut and patchouli, as well as a hint of luxurious white truffle.

  • Sounds amazing I live in the Us, and LOVE Key West beaches. Everythig about 4D sounds perfect.

  • This one has me puzzled. I don’t know whether I would like it or not, but I’m curious. I have a lot of beaches that are favorites. The one that popped into my head is the beach off the Pacific Coast Hwy in La Conchita, CA.

I live in the US – my favorite beach is on Sanibel Island, FL. I find the notes of sandlewood and bitter chocolate appealing in the fragrance.

  • The dry down in this one is lovely indeed! It adds a bit of tropical paradise to the SW desert where I live:) No need to enter me as I do have and enjoy this one… Good luck to the rest of you.

I live in the US. I adore a beach vacation! I go every year to Ocean City, MD. Great beach town with a really good vibe. Fabulous restaurants on the beach. Only six more weeks and I’m there!

  • I am curious about the chocolate note in this otherwise tropical scent, but would like to try. I live in the US, but my favorite beach is just south of my husband’s home town of Adelaide, Australia. Pristine and beautiful.

  • I live on the West Coast in the US. I love Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard beaches here in the US. But my favorite beaches are in Mexico, especially Huatulco! I love acquiring a new fragrance for beach vacations and this one sounds perfect for a family vacation I’m taking in Ocean City, NJ later this summer. The opening notes of cucumber and cassis are appealing, as is the fact that it’s an oil, perfect for popping in my beach bag for the day!

  • I live in the US, my favorite beach is on the Atlantic ocean, NY area. I’d like this Daniella 4D because I never met a cucumber fragrance I didn’t like 🙂

  • I live in sunny Greece. The country with the most known beaches and thousand of islands. If i have pick just one beach, that would be of Melidoni from Cythera island near East Pelloponisos. There ,according to Greek mythology , Paris the Troyan first met Hellen the Queen taking her bath and fall in love with her natural beaty (she was the most beautiful woman in the whole world). He took her away from her husband and this is said to be the reason for the Troyan War to start.
The perfume sounds very interesting and intriguing since it contains such bitter-sweet accords. Thanks for the give away.

I am surrounded by water, as I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, USA, right next to the Chesapeake Bay. I love going camping on the beaches of Assateague Island with the sand dunes, salt marshes & wild ponies. However, the most memorable beach for me was in Thailand, when I spent a week on the island of Koh Pha Ngan. I rented a bungalow right on the beach for about $5 USD per night. I would go swimming in the Gulf of Siam, then dry off to sit on the porch and sip coconut water through a straw from newly harvested young, green coconuts, while watching the sun set and listening to the waves! Then I was off to explore the “night market” where the air is filled with fragrant odors of cooking food, exotic fruits and tropical flowers. I am really drawn to the sexy, skin notes of patchouli & sandalwood. I also love that the fragrance is available as a candle. Thank you for review and draw opportunity.

  • What I like about 4D is the part where I might imagine splashing and kissing my lover in the water. That just takes me to a place of freedom. My favorite beach is one in Zakynthos in Greece. You lie on the cliff top and look down at it, white sands like diamonds and blue water so pure and clear its dreamlike. Then, a shipwreck in the middle, washed up and long abandoned. I can see it so perfectly. Thanks for the review and draw, especially generous that its worldwide! I’m International.

  • I’m in Cyprus and my favourite beach is just down the road, I like that it is something I can almost call my own and the sunset there is fantastic.
I like the odd note listing in 4D and wonder how bitter chocolate fits in.

I live in the US and my favorite beach is Waddell Creek near Santa Cruz, CA. It is one of the best wind surfing locations in the world. Cold and windy but an amazing place.

  • Thanks for the draw!
I am in EU, my favorite beach is on the island of Corfu, Greece, and I am pretty curious about the combo of bitter chocolate, cucumber and leather in 4D!

  • I live in Romania (E.U.) , in a small town near Brasov, located in a wonderful mountain area. The town is surrounded by deep forests and high cliffs, wonderful meadows, ski resorts and ice-cold rivers.
I love this place, and I equally love the seashore.
The most beautiful beach I enjoy to be on is at Portita, at the black Sea and the one in Estoril, Portugal.
The beach I would like to be on is in Seychelles Islands.
I hope to have good luck and win 4D, because of the heart note of bitter chocolate and almond blossom.
The cucumber note is refreshing, I like it in a few fragrances.
    Thank you for the draw.

  • Pomponio Claudia says:

I m from Italy (EU ) and we have wonderful beaches in Sardinia.. Even one with pink sand in a little island near Sardinia called Budelli island.
This Fragrance sounds really amazing , I really would like to try it.
    Thank you for the draw.

  • I live in South Africa, but my favorite beach(es) are ones I visited in Ithaca. Blue water – and one can see to the bottom it is so clear! I like the inclusion of gourmand notes in this beach-type scent:)

  • I love how this fragrance can transport you to your favorite beach and remind you of all the fun times you have had! I have never been to a boardwalk beach with all the food and fun, but it reminds me that I am so fortunate to live in Florida, and should take more time to enjoy the beautiful beaches close by. Thank you for the draw!

My favorite beaches are along Florida’s Emerald Coast with it’s sugar white sand, this fragrance appeals to me because of the delicious description of the coconut (I’m on a coconut perfume hunt), and I’m in the US.

  • I think I would love 4D as all the notes appeal to me and the description of capturing the scents of the beach and the boardwalk would be wonderful
That opening vintage photo of the women in their bathing suits on the beach drew me right in
My favorite beach is horseshoe Bay in Bermuda where I went on my honeymoon
    I live in the US

  • I live in Australia where it is now freeezing cold, so I am totally sucked in to the idea of a beachy scent. I love the suntan oil accord, with delicious coconut oil.
My favourite beach is our local dog beach, it is calm and the water is turquoise, and humans all swim with our pets, such a weekend joy!

  • What appeals to me is a new brand ivee never heard about. I don’t go to beaches often, so my favorite beach would be at the lake in Texoma and I’m in the US.

  • Ifi Genial says:

What I found mostly appealing apart from its ingredient notes like cassis, cucumber and almond with bitter chocolate (it must really smell awesome), is the fact that it is a perfumed oil in a chic little rollerball that I can carry in my beach bag and wear the scent in the sun without worrying about skin discoloration.
I live in EU (Greece) and my favorite beach is found at Donousa Island with the name Kedros beach.

  • Located in the US here, but have to agree with the previous post that mentions Mexico having the best beaches and concur with Huatulco being my favorite spot. What appeals to me about 4D is the bitter chocolate and truffel. I don’t think I’ve yet experienced a bitter chocolate note/accord in a perfume.

  • I’m in New England USA, and love the coast of Maine. I’m drawn to 4D for the marine accord and the white truffle.

  • Thanks for the review and draw!
I haven’t been many places, and my favorite beaches now tend to be lakes with lots of shady trees and burbling streams feeding into them. Since I burn and overheat easily, I tend to swim a lot and then slather on sunscreen for a late afternoon stroll. The scent of water is so magical and calming!
My favorite ocean beach is one from my childhood, on Cape Cod I think, with lots of wildlife and swimming and pretty shells. We also went to Rehoboth and the boardwelk scents were so intoxicating! Very interested to osmagine that melange captured in one perfume. Cucumber and chocolate sounds like an interesting combination.

  • A nice read! I’m in Germany! My favourite beach is in Varna, Bulgaria! What I like in 4D is the marine accord!

  • Cynthia Richardson says:

I live in the US and my favorite beach is on Tybee Island. While I’m not a big fan of coconut, the other notes appeal to me especially dark chocolate.

  • I live in the U.S. and I’m homesick for my favorite beach, I used to live just about a block away in Cape May County, NJ. It is on the bay side, and often deserted, which is just perfect for me. The beach has so many different moods, depending on the sky, the weather, the tide, the time of day and season… it cheers me to know that though it is ever-changing, I can always go back and feel truly at home. Someday. This fragrance appeals to me because I love the scents of the boardwalk!

  • I live in Italy, and I have two favorite beaches in my Country: one (Senigallia) is in the Adriatic Coast, not far from where I live, and it’s close to my heart for the lovely memories it bring; the other one (Diamante) is in Tirrenic Coast and it offers one of the most breathtaking seaside landscapes I’ve ever seen, complete with crystalline waters and wild nature from the mountains above.

What’s not to love about Daniella 4D? It seems to play all the right notes to be a wonderful and unique beach scent, and I love the fact she’s choosed to give a noticeable gourmand twist to her creation (I guess the the oily form enhances its yumminess). More than under the hot sun, I see myself wearing this one when the light starts to soften: there’s something about this composition that makes me think of a delicate, almost natural lusciousness. White truffle’s note definitely looks interesting, although I am not sure if it’s referred to the ice-cream dessert or the tuber itself.

    Thanks for the draw!

  • I like idea that the fragrance is rollerball, so easy to use in hot summer and during holiday. Chocolate, almond, coconut… this is how I do imagine summer in subtropic climate zone. I like Naples Beaches with their white sand and dolphin s show at the sunset. I live in Europe.
