NEW FRAGRANCE: Penhaligons Anthology Collection “The Finale” Esprit de Roi and Eau Sans Pareil

The Anthology Collection was launched in 2009 with the first four fragrances; Extract of Limes, Eau de Verveine, Gardenia and Night Scented Stock. Orange Blossom, Eau de Cologne, Jubilee Bouquet and Zizonia followed in 2010. This July, the collection is completed with these final two scents.

A selection of these formulations have remained unchanged, offering a unique insight into the fragrance tastes and trends of the era, whilst others have been carefully reformulated to ensure they appeal to modern fragrance wearers while still retaining a unique heritage feel.

Introducing the final two fragrances in the Penhaligon’s Anthology Collection; a lush woody citrus Esprit du Roi created by master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and the shimmering chypre Eau Sans Pareil, created by Beverley Bayne.

Esprit du Roi

Originally created in 1983, Esprit du Roi returns as a lush woody citrus, heady with swirling scented foliage. Fresh tomato leaf, mint and raspberry leaf are combined with rich florals, warm woods and potent musks to create this masterpiece of contrasts.

Heart: Clove, Egyptian Geranium, Madagascan Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Honeysuckle

Eau Sans Pareil

Originally created in 1988, Eau Sans Pareil has been transformed into a shimmering chypre. Opening with a giddy rush of sparkling fruits and sensual white flowers, Eau Sans Pareil is softened with sweet woods, elegant oakmoss and musks. Powdery, wistful and romantic.

  • africa stone?
    oh lordy…

i have the original eau sans pareil, and it is a nice, aromatic, somewhat masculine eau de cologne.
not terribly exciting, and certainly nothing powdery, wistful or romantic about it.
    i like it, though…

what is it with using the old name to sell an entirely different fragrance?
language doesn’t provide for new combinations?
    for real?

  • Harper- Isn’t it confusing when they re-launch a perfume with the same name? Parfums de Nicolai recently did this with Week-end a Deauville, which is one of my favorites. It makes it so confusing when you’re purchasing a bottle, since it’s hard to know which formulation you’re getting.

But then, conversely, it made me really cherish my original formulation bottle too…

Penhaligons really surprised me with Amaranthine. So maybe Eau Sans Pareil will work for me too!
