New Fragrance: Etat Libre D’Orange Cologne “A Nice Scent”

etat libre dorange cologne 2014

One of the surprises at Esxence last week was a new fragrance from Etat Libre D'Orange. Nothing racy, nothing subversive, no squirting fluids… a cologne called Cologne. Except from this House, Cologne is actually subversive and shocking because it goes against type. When Managing Editor,Tama Blough smelled it (without seeing the banner), she said to Etienne de Swardt, "This Smells Nice". And sometimes that's all we want from a fragrance. The nose is Alexandra Kosinski from Givaudan. She created fragrances for Six Scents Series 2 and Scent on Canvas among others.

I asked Etienne why NICE?  He said, "We love to say : we have given you decadent, we have given you outrageous and now we give you NICE."

Notes:
Top: Blood Orange, Bergamot
Heart: Orange Blossom, Jasmine
Base: Leather, Musk
100 ML/ 100 Euros
Available in the Summer

  • funny, that. i mean: the fact that putting the idea of ELd”O and NICE together should be (and is, in fact) kind of shocking and subversive. i suppose it just goes to show how absolutely everything is a matter of context, eh? a “nice” devil is shocking, but a nice angel not so much (at least in our familiar way of thinking about things.) i am sure this is worth a sniff.
