New Fragrance: Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle Eau de Magnolia Carlos Benaïm (2014)

There is a new “Fleur de Malle”.  Frédéric Malle, the Creative Director who in 2000, introduced Olfactive Artists to the world, by featuring perfumers names on the bottles is launching Eau De Magnolia. The new perfume is a collaboration between M.  Malle and Master Perfumer Carlos Benaïm who recently was awarded the Fragrance Foundation's Life Achievement Award.

With magnolia flower at the base of this newest scent, the chemical composition of this flower is much closer to an Eau de Cologne than a classic white or rosy flower structure. To enhance the equilibrium of the magnolia and create a softer scent, a plan was devised to turn this fragrance into a new type of Eau. Fresh notes were added to exaggerate the transparent nature of the accord, while base notes were built in to give the scent depth, increase diffusion and add sex appeal to the composition. By adding a large dose of vetiver to the accord, the alliance of the vetiver heart and grapefruit became the key to the formula. Finally, to generate more contrast to the fragrance, hints of moss and patchouli were added. Eau de Magnolia was born as a fresh chypre fragrance. With extraordinary transparency, natural smelling notes and a somber base, this summer fragrance boasts a range of depth and sensuality with a touch of mystery.
