MUGLER Les Exceptions Woodissme (Jean-Christophe Herault) 2016~Fragrance Review + Oud and Osmanthus Draw

Jean-Christophe Herault and Woodissme

MUGLER is best known for their iconic perfume Angel, and the other signature fragrances Alien, Womanity, and A*men. Occasionally they  introduce a new collection that is luxe and exclusive. In 2014, they released a series of five fragrances, Les Exceptions, that are quite interesting:Oriental Express, Chyprissime, Fougère Furieuse, Supra Floral, and Over the Musk, followed by Cuir Impertinet in 2015; all  housed in art deco inspired flacons and tucked into luxe black boxes. As the names may suggest, each fragrance pays respect to a particular classic genre of perfume: Oriental, Chypre, Fougere, Floral and Leather. The first five perfumes were created by Olivier Polge (who is now at CHANEL) and Jean-Christophe Herault. Jean Christophe Herault returned as the nose for Cuir Impertinet in 2015 and for 2016 Woodissme. The perfumer says, “There are very few raw materials as rich as agarwood: it is spicy, woody and animalistic. I have worked with the aromas I like, using beautiful natural raw materials to create a wonderful perfume. In order to soften its animalistic nature, I have chosen the osmanthus flower to add sophistication, a touch of soft suede and ripe fruit, reminiscent of succulent apricots or plums.” –Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT

Run that randomizer! I love the Mugler house and have tried this line yet. Hope I can get to try this out. Good luck to everyone:)

  • Great review Mugler is my favorite house!! They have the best flankers. Their projection and longevity are the best. Never heard of the Les Exceptions line from this house. Would love to try this line out. Please sign me up for this giveaway. Ohio

  • I love cedar wood and apricots, so Woodissme sounds like a perfect fit. Sebastian's review reminds me of a wine description-fruit forward with a wood finish! I live in the USA.

  • Fabian Medina says:

I would love to try something different. Sounds interesting to me so count me in. Thank

  • Good to see well known companies who’ve shyed away from oud type fragances in their line up finally getting into the mix. Oud and woodsy notes are one of my favorite notes in fragrances..
Thank you for entering me in the giveaway..

Great review Sebastian..i been fan of this house all the time , i bought a bottle of over the musk from les exceptions collection and i love it 🙂

  • Nelson Murilo says:

    Wow! This scent sounds awesome.
Thanks for you precise review, Sebastian.

  • I have never tried any fragrances from this particular collection. But I love Sebastian’s review because it is so in depth and thorough, he describes every note of the fragrance. I loved that he says it opens with fruity notes from the Osmounth plant and smells of apricot and plum before the woody dry down. The fruit notes would really help me to enjoy this woody fragrance. Thanks for the opportunity to win this fragrance. From the USA

  • I always love Sebastian’s reviews, of course… He’s always so thorough and insightful. I loved hearing that this fragrance has a fruity nuance, as one of my favorite Mugler scents is Pure Malt, with its dried fruits accord. Naturally this scent really piqued my interest. I have heard of Woodisme as well as the others in the line but have not had a chance to try them and would love the chance. I am in the US. Thank you!

  • I don’t currently own anything from this amazing-sounding line, but I do have a couple of Mugler items. Sebastian’s description sounds very intriguing and I’d love to have the opportunity to add this to my collection. Thank you from San Diego, CA….

  • I like how Sebastian gave a rundown of the entire line. I’ve heard of the Les Exceptions line, but haven’t tried one yet. This would be wonderful to have in my collection.

    Thanks for the generous giveaway.

  • Very excited to see this new line, I always loved woody notes. And a great review from Sebastian as always!

I love fruity and woody fragrances. This one is very much interesting for me. Thank you guys, thank you Sebastian for the review and please count me in.

  • I like the fact it has Vetiver and our there. Mugler has always had a solid fragrance line and I have never tried this line but would love to try it.

  • I love Seb’s description of how the fruity opening blends well w the deeper woods in the heart and how ingredients like oud and vetiver create a really interesting drydown. EXCELLENT REVIEW!

  • Paulie Peanuts Aka guinea54 says:

cedar wood and apricots sounds like an interesting mix.. Never tried much of this house outside of the A*MEN line… So of course would be interesting. Thanks Sebastian for another giveaway.. And great review as always

Given the name of the perfume, I did not expect strong floral and fruity notes like osmanthus and apricot yet Sebastian mentions they are noticeable. I have not tried anything from Les Exceptions but I have many other from Mugler including one from their previous exclusive line. Thanks for the generous draw. I am in the US.

  • Always love Sebastian’s reviews! I’ve never tried any scents from the Les Exceptions line. But one of my favorite scents from Mugler is Thierry Mugler Cologne. Both my boyfriend and I wear it. It’s a great unisex scent. Woodisme sounds like something we both can wear and I’d be thrilled if we won it!

    I live in the U.S.

  • GrandmaGaga says:

As always I enjoyed Sebastian’s enthusiastic review; he is an admitted Mugler fan and his love for the house comes across clearly in his review. I own several from Mugler; there isn’t an Alien I don’t like! This sounds great…Osmanthus is one of my favorite notes. Haven’t tried anything from this Les Exceptions but would love the chance. I am in the US.

  • Cesar Caballero says:

  • Great review, Sebastian!!! I like your conclusion about this parfume- nice blended fruity-woody perfume. I like this combination)) Your good summary is enough for me!!
I’ve heard of the Les Exceptions line, but haven’t tried one yet. This would be wonderful to have in my collection. Thank you, Cafleurebon for this opportunit

Yes, great review I am intrigued. I have tried a few Mugler fragrances such as Pure Malt and Havane but none of the Les Exceptions range. This one sounds particularly interesting and I cannot wait to try it. I live in York, Maine.

  • xXxrootxXx says:

Great review, what i liked about sebs youtube review is he always goes into detail and gives an honest review,i havent tried any from the line but am familiar with it and always have wanted to try the more exclusive line other than a*men ,etc.thnx 4 giveaway .Im in U.S.A !

  • coconyc205 says:

Great review! I would love to try something from Mugler that is totally seperate from angel/alien. Get that randomizer going!

  • NiceVULady says:

It was interesting to get a view of the line from Sebastian’s review. I haven’t tried anything from this house nor am I familiar with Woodiseme. Love vetiver, so this should great. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Sounds like a lovely scent! I liked the most how Sebastian described woody and fruity notes complimenting each other, I love oud.. and osmanthus flower sounds soo nice.. would love to try this! California here Peace 🙂

  • Sebastian always does a great job with his reviews; precise and to the point. I can’t wait to hear his take one some of the others in the Les Exceptions line. I’ve tried many of them (Cuir Impertinent being my favorite so far) but haven’t yet smelled Woodissme…can’t wait to try it, though!

  • I did not know that the osmanthus smells of apricot. Apricot is one of my favorite fruits. I have a few samples of some fragrances with osmantus that I recently purchased, so I shall smell them with that new info. Woodissme sounds fabulous! I like that Sebastian doesn’t think it has strong out and that the dry down is what it is about. We have to live in the dry down the longest, so always great when that’s the best part. I do not have any fragrances by this perfumer, I am familiar with Angel and I suppose I don’t own any because I prefer something that not a lot of other people are wearing. I would love to win this. Thanks for the opportunity. I live in the U.S.

  • gregorysop says:

Very intriguing that it comes off as a apricot and fruity dry plum but also includes some woody cedar, oud and vetiver scents as well. Apricot is not a note that I hear a lot of normally, but as one of my favorite dried fruits should be a winner. Ive always liked Mugler colognes but I think that these exclusive luxe frags are going to even be at a higher level.

  • Sebastian always gives his reviews in a very matter of fact manner which I respect greatly. I also like how he discussed not just Woodissime but the entire line.

I haven’t been fortunate enough to try any of these (living in the perfumed Styx as I do) but if they are anything like the Mirrors series they will be fantastic.

I’m a US reader and resident. Registered Cafleurebon user and LFSG subscriber also. Video shared on Facebook, with CaFleureBon tagged.

  • I love the fruity opening of this scent. Great contrast with the intense wood. Tones down and blends beautifully. Always loves Sebastian’s intense attention to notes. I always trust his opinions and reviews. He doesn’t steer people wrong.

  • Woodissme honestly sounds like my ideal fragrance. Fruity osmanthus and woody oud/cedar is just perfect. Fruit and wood notes really do compliment each very well and they’re always so pleasing to my nose. Definitely going to have to give this one a try! I haven’t tried the Les Exceptions collection but the streamlined bottles are stunning. In the US

  • Great review Sebastian! I like what you described as a fruity opening but after is when the wood notes come in to play. I am familiar with 4 Mugler fragrances but this one sounds like a MUST try. Thank you all from Chicago.

  • I bought over the musk and was surprised how much I liked it. Mugler makes great fragrances and I do love osmanthus

  • I haven’t tried the Les Exceptiones perfumes from Mugler. I love Womanity and turned my daughter into an Angel fan. I like the sound of the apricot fruitiness at the beginning. I think the woods would balance out the sweetness. Thank you for the review. (I always admire Sebastian’s pronunciations. I would make such a fool of myself if I had to say all these words and fragrance house names.) Thank you for the review and the draw. USA

  • Never tried the Les Exceptions. Mugler Cologne is still one of the best. Thanks to Sebastian for the nice review like always.
    Thank you for the opportunity.

  • ntabassum92 says:

I like how Sebastian describes osmanthus. I’m having trouble discerning whether I have smelled osmanthus in real life or not, and Sebastian’s review made it more clear to me that I have not – I have heard apricot mentioned before, but not the notes of plums and prunes. I have not tried WOODISME, or any other Les Exceptions fragrances. Thanks for the review Sebastian, as always 🙂

  • Michael McDonald says:

I enjoyed Sebastian’s style of presenting: very thorough but also straight to the point. I am not familiar with this fragrance or any from this particular line, but I would love to give it a try. Ohio

  • doveskylark says:

I really appreciate this video review because it has made me reconsider Mugler fragrances. I think I have dismissed them over the years, maybe as a backlash because of Angel’s popularity. I love osmanthus tea, so I am quite curious to try this fragrance.
I live in the USA and I subscribe to Sebastian’s channel.

  • kaitracid says:

Nice description of the scent and I found it amusing that Sebastian said it’s good that it doesn’t have the amen DNA 🙂
I love woody fragrances and would like to try this one. Haven’t tried anything from the Mugler exceptions line. US (IL)

  • Digging the fruity+woody description of the composition and thanks for the review. Haven’t tried anything from Les Exceptions line and would like to see the quality compared to other designer exclusives like Les Exclusifs, La Collection Privee or Hermessence. USA

  • Please enter me into the giveaway. I’ve never tried anything from this house. Thanks!!

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Thanks for the post and video review! Woodissime – Oud wood enriched with cedar, gaiac wood , patchouli, vetiver and the sandalwood. At the core of this theme is Osmanthus (hmmmm…..smells like apricaot) to add sophistication. Mugler Les Exceptions fragrances are tempting and .unfortunately never tried Mugler Les Exceptions line. The bottles are gorgeous.
Thanks for the draw and the opportunity to participate by letting my relative address in NY, US.

  • Kyle Stevens says:

I am a huge Mugler fan and have always wanted to try their more high end options.
