Memo Paris Marfa Spices~New Perfume Review + Desert Tuberose Draw

Creative Director Clara Malloy of Memo Paris has enjoyed a prolific and successful relationship with defacto in house perfumer Aliénor Maissenet, (now of Symrise). Memo's leitmotif is sense of place, memories of journeys; in fact the name Memo comes from the word memories. The first Marfa was inspired by Clara Malloy’ of Memo Paris trip to Marfa, Texas, a town in the high desert. Sr. Contributor Sebastian Jara is a big fan, and it changed his mind that tuberose couldn’t be worn easily by men. He reviewed it here.

The PRADA "store" installation by Elmgreen and  Dragset in Marfa Texas (Photo by Grey Malin)

One of my favorite photos is a PRADA store installation standing like a mirage in the middle of a desolate strip of road just off Highway 90. While I am not sure if the cowboy is just gawking or thinking of buying Prada boots, I think he would smell great wafting Memo Paris Marfa Spices. Tuberose is a big note that had a big moment last year, and even the most macho of men now understand that the flower known as “The Queen of The Night”, is fit for a king as well.  With notes of agave and cardamom, the desert beckons. Sr. Contributor Sebastian Jara of the YouTube Channel  Smelling Great, and founder of a popular Facebook Group reviews Memo Paris Marfa Spices.-Micheyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

  • Wow, the way that Sebastian describes things, it’s almost as if you can smell it through his description. I love the fact that he admits to not being a Tuberose fan but the original Marfa changed that and now with the added spices, including cardamom, I can’t help but to long for this fragrance. Marfa Spices sounds Devine and I look forward to one day getting the chance to smell this. I admittedly hasn’t smelled much from the line, but I do own African leather. I guess, for now, I can consider that my favorite. As always, I appreciate the opportunity.

  • Always take Sebastians reviews serouisly. He is very passionate about his fragrances. Just like he is about this house. Personally, I really don’t know how the note tuberose smells like on its own. But I know some notes are better brought out when masterfully balanced with othe notes. Sounds like Marfa has done exactly that. Hope to one day enjoy this magic.

  • Sebastian always makes great reviews! I am nit a fan if tuberose but I liked how he said that Memo took away that femininity out of this white flower and made it more masculine.

  • Like Sebastian, I am not the biggest tuberose fan. The use of it in Tom Ford’s Black Orchid is a bit challenging for my nose (After checking the note breakdown of Black Orchid, the challenging note may actually be Tuber and not Tuberose…haha, my mistake). However this fragrance, by Sebastian’s description, with the use of Cardamon and Agave makes this one sound very interesting. It’s nice to find a fragrance that contains a note, one that you didn’t particularly appreciate in the beginning and find a new perspective to it. As I mentioned in the review for Memo Paris’ Tamarindo, I am not familiar with most of their line but African and Russian Leather also sound interesting and worth checking out. Thanks for hosting this giveaway, cheers from CT.

  • Sebastian says it was the original Marfa that made him fall in love with tuberose fragrances. Marfa Spices is a masculine tuberose with added spices and this perfume has been done by Aliénor Maissenet who has done most if not all the perfumes for Memo. Thanks for the generous draw. I am in the US.

  • This was my first time to see Sebastian’s video and I was struck by his enthusiasm and he is easy to listen to, like he’s in the room just chatting – that is a talent! His description is so sensory, I know I would love this. I have always liked Marfa from Memo Paris. Thank you for the really generous drawing! I am in USA – in fact Texas- but I’ve never been to Marfa which is 600 miles away!

  • I associate tuberose as a feminine note, so it intrigued me when Sebastian described this fragrance as a masculine. Now it makes me to try it even more. I only smelled African Leather and I quite liked it. It was surprising for me that the scent was fresh and the leather was verty subtle. I guess this house likes to tweak their compossition to create suprise factor. (illinois)

  • New to luxury fragrances and this seems like one that I would really enjoy. I appreciate all the reviews that Sebastian has done!

  • I absolutely love Sebastian. He has a great nose and gives viewers a true experience through his reviews. His description of Marfa Spices almost allow you to smell the sexy, creamy, spicy goodness I imagine this to be. Sadly I do not have much experience with Memo Paris but I am just beginning my fragrance journey and hope to explore more. I did have a whiff of Eau de Memo and it is absolutely gorgeous and unique. Contemplating purchasing. I appreciate the opportunity to be apart of this community and also try my luck at winning Marfa Spices. Thanks and take care!

  • James Sherwood says:

Sebastian convinced me to want this fragrance. I trust his opinions on most of his reviews. I do not think I have a fragrance with the Tuberose note. I have been thru Southwest Texas but not Marfa. I have tried all the leather scents from Memo Paris. I love this house. Thanks for the draw . Good luck to all.

  • I’m typically not into floral scents but the only Tuberose scent that has captured my heart is Cafe Tuberosa by Atelier Cologne. I’m very excited to see how this compares to that since that is such an amazing fragrance. I’m also a fan of MEMO too because they have such a wide variety of intense and wonderful fragrances.

  • Spices, musk, cedarwood, and tuberose? It already sounds delicious. And the fact that Sebastian Jara has backed it I’m in. I have never doubted anything he has said. I’ve grown in the community because of him. My favorite fragrance reviewer. I own French Leather and absolutely love it. Thanks for this draw.

  • I loved the original Marfa so I can’t wait to try this one and see what the addition of spices do. I like Sebastian’s style, very non dramatic and he always makes the perfume the star. I also envy the ease with which he pronounces French perfumer names, houses etc.! I don’t own a Memo fragrance yet but the original Marfa is my favorite. Thanks for the draw an review. USA

  • Nancy Sternberg Goodman says:

I fell in love with my Marta sample and from the way Sebastian describes Marfa Spices it sounds like I would love it even more. Cardamom—mmmmmm!!! I too used to have trouble getting into tuberose, but combined with spices it’s especially fabulous. Thanks for the draw!

  • Patrick Echevarria says:

I usually tend to sway away from tuberose and ylang ylang in frags as I find them feminine but Sebastian in his review is assiring that this one does not lean that way and a big fan of LFSG,I trust his reviews. Looking forward to trying this one. I don’t own any full bottle of Memo Paris Perfume but own a couple of carded samples from them. Tks for the review and draw. San Diego USA

  • I like Sebastian reviews because he has a charisma and straight forword easy way explanation either on niche fragrances or designer houses , I join to the other subscribers on his channel few day back and I started buying perfums according his own specifications and furtunetly It work for me 100%, I do not have experience with memo before and I’m excited to try It out , thank you

  • I very much appreciate and love Sebastians reviews and let me say I’ve bought half of my Collection based on his reviews…this particular Memo offering sounds fantastic and REALLY hope to try this one soon! The day i smelled Irish leather i knew this house was special and would make a home in my Collection…love this house!!

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

Everything is interesting and great in Sebastián s vids. Love all of them.
And Id love to win this, because I have ever try this brand.

  • Sebastian comes up with some interesting comments on this fragrance. A masculine floral with spices. I own a decant of MEMO Italian Leather. I am interested in trying more from the line.

  • I love the way Sebastian is translating fragrances into experiences relatable for all genders. I love the guy, and I love Memo as well, with Quartier Latin—and now Marfa Spices on my list. CA, USA

  • Loved this video, Sebastian getting better at Breaking down the scents in the different stages andI respect that

  • Like always I receive an olfactory education from Sebastian. I’m interested in the agave note. Will it smell like the freshly cut cut prickly leaf? Or sweet like agave nectar or boozy like pulque?

  • Sebastian really stressed how this was a spicy masculine fragrance and those are the types of colognes that are really my favorite. I’ve never tried any Memo Paris scents . Thank you for the giveaway. I’m in the United States, New York.

  • I’m a woman, but I typically do not like tuberose scents…they tend to be overpowering and come of kind of like a room spray. On my skin they can go sharp, bitter, sour, kind of chalky even. I need spices or sweetness to ground them and make them wearable. Sebastian’s review makes me think this tuberose scent could actually work for me. I’d love to find out! I am not familiar with any Memo Paris fragrances…yet…so no faves. Thanks to everyone who is making this giveaway possible.

  • Sebastian’s description of a masculine tuberose makes me want to try Marfa and Marfa Spices. I tend to lean towards unisex fragrances, and usually avoid white flower notes. So, please include me in your draw. I’m in the USA.

  • Jeremy Brown says:

Sabestian is by far the most descriptive fragrance Youtuber I know, I am a novice to fragrances and his description of the Memo Paris Marfa is so excellent I could almost smell it with my eyes closed.

I would really love to experience this fragrance, Sabestian makes it sounds interesting, tuberose being masculine, who would have thought so.

  • Agave and cardamom sound interesting and I never thought of tuberose as masculine so I would love to try this. I have Memo Irish leather and it is a great frag

  • Always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. Describes fragrances well. This one sounds like an interesting fragrance. Leaning a bit masculine too. Hope to get a chance to try it out. Haven’t got a chance to try any Memo Paris fragrance. Thanks

  • geraldmartinmoore says:

Always love what Sebastian recommends as he knows my taste-and this sounds a perfect blend. The only tuberose I have tried previously and like was le Labo, but this sounds even more intriguing. NYC here

  • I love Sebastian’s reviews, he can really relate to each perfume/house and he is so descriptive. He just gives amazing reviews.
I do not have a favorite perfume from Memo Paris but I sure would love to try this!
I’m in the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • It never fails. I always add a fragrance to my wishlist after I watch one of Sebastian’s reviews. I love that this version is a spicy version. I like the original so the addition of cumin and other spices makes this sound phenomenal.
    I live in the U.S.

  • Frank Gambina says:

I enjoyed how Sebastian mentioned marfa spices being his first fragrance that got him to enjoy tuberose in fragrances. He mentioned how a male could enjoy this because the femininity of the tuberose was stripped away and all that was left was the sweetness and the masculine parts of the tuberose. I’ve never tried a fragrance with tuberose in it and would love to try this if it’s not totally geared to women. I can’t say I have a favorite Memo Paris fragrance because I don’t own any but I do love the presentation of this fragrance as well as the notes composition. In the USA.

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

Yes ive tried the memo line and they are very new to me still, but I can see myself trying the tuberose scent, yet another great review from Sebastian!
    Thanks again michelyn.

  • I always love Sebastian ‘s reviews and especially when he is passionate about a fragrance makes me what to try it so much. I live Colorado.
    Thank you for the generosity.

  • As always, Sebastian piques my interest in a new fragrance. I have never worn white flower fragrances, but I’ve certainly been wearing more flower scents of late. Today was a violet dominant scent from Mancera and last week a jasmine scent from Nicolai Paris. So I am certainly very interested in this. I would love to be considered for the give away and thank you.

  • An uber-masculine white flower fragrance, complimented by notes of citrus, cedar, and cardamom? Yes please! This sounds great. I have a few Memo fragrances, my favorite is African Leather. I live in the US.

  • Richard Potter says:

Sebastian originally turned me on to Marfa (gosh, was it REALLY two years ago) and tuberose. This one sounds even more enticing, though admittedly out of my financial reach at present. However, were I to win a bottle…

  • Wow! This fragrance sounds fantastic! I always admire fragrances that are so good that they even can get haters of certain notes to enjoy them. Personlly, that really says a lot about the quality and uniqueness of the fragrance. I really enjoy Memo’s French Leather. USA

  • Sebastian’s review, as always, gets right to the point. I always enjoy Sebastian’s review because of his dimensional style. It was a great description of a very interesting release by Memo. The fact that they could make tuberous, of all floral notes they could have used, come off as masculine, has really peaked my interest. I have not tried any of Memo’s releases so hopefully this will be my first. Thank you for the very generous offer! I look forward to trying this. Thanks again.

  • I liked the way Seb tried to convince non-tuberose fans that Marfa Spices will change their perception of tuberose scents. My favorite is French Leather. Thanks for the chance to win this Cafleurebon!

  • I have only recently worn tuberose fragrances cautiously. If Seb states this is a more masculine tuberose I’m in. Never tried one from the house before. US

  • Tom Schroeder says:

I first started truly enjoying wearing a tuberose fragrance with Atelier Cologne’s Cafe Tuberosa, which is superbly blended. So Memo Paris Marfa Spices sounds great to me. Nice description by Sebastian how the additional notes take Marfa Spices to the next level from Marfa. My favorite Memo Paris fragrance is African Leather. –San Jose, California, USA

  • Sebastian’s review, as always, is simple but very nice and impressive!!!
Be honestly, usualky I do not like tuberosa perfumes..and find this note mostly feminine note, but as Sebastian said in this video-review this tuberosa is masculine. So I am curious and I want to try Marfa.
I like Italian Leather from Memo Paris.
    US

  • I always love Sebastian ‘s reviews! And when he is passionate about a fragrance that is makes me to try it. I tested Marfa a year ago, but was not impressed, but after this great review I must to try again.
My favorite Memo Paris fragrances is irish Leather and Kedu.
    USA, DE

  • Beautiful description of such exotic spices , woody notes & white flowers & it would be an honor to add this masterpiece to my collection. Thank you for everyone that is involved in this giveaway & good luck to all of us & specially MOI ! Houston, Texas

  • I love spicy scents, with the cardamom, and interested in his description of a masculine take on tuberose, and how it balances the dry (desert-y) scent. Having recently discovered Sebastian’s reviews, I enjoy listening/viewing (instead of reading) to him speak about scent. thank you for the draw! in the US.

  • I haven’t tried anything from this house, but I must say, this is intriguing. I am a fan of spicy fragrances in general and I’m not afraid of those geared towards the masculine side. Love Sebastian because he is always so clear in his reviews. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Sounds very interesting ,i really enjoyed sebastians review and i love the details he describes ,you really get a feel for the fragrance . I own Irish leather and italian leather my favourite of the 2 is irish.I love this house they have amazing fragrances and it would be fantastic to win this

    Thanks 4 Giveaway

  • Sebastian always does a top notch job in accurately describing scents from a masculine standpoint. I love that he claims that this tuberose strips down to the masculine side so I can try this one with male confidence. Thanks for the draw.
    from USA

  • As always, I enjoyed Sebastian’s review…he is so down-to-earth and unpretentious, presenting elegant and high end perfumes such as Marfa with the same admiration and attention to the details of the scent as he does with more common perfumes or vintage. It’s obvious he enjoys all sorts of scents and his enthusiastic reviews are some of my favorites. I have not had opportunity to sample any Memo but would love to start with this one! I am in the US and thank you and the sponsor for the draw.

  • I’ve never tried a tuberose fragrance that I liked to wear. Sebastian’s review piqued my interest in this, since he wasn’t fond of tuberose either. I havent tried other Memo fragrances though

  • I’m a great fan of Sebastian for years now and he’s been a great add to the site. His convincing description of how tuberose is wearable for a man is what make me want to try this fragrance. I’ve never smelled or tried any Memo fragrances and would be a cool add to the collection. Thanks for the draw from the USA.

  • Frozenheat28 says:

SEBASTIAN is so knowledge when it comes to his reviews. I really like how he said that he used to not like Tuberose but the original Memo Marfa changed that. Now with this one having amped up the masculinity and added spices, I’m really interested. My favorite memo that I’ve smelled so far is African Leather! Thank you for the opportunity. I live in the US

  • Having encountered Memo Paris for the first time at The Perfume House this autumn at the Portland Sniffa, I was immediately struck by this line’s sophistication. Sebastian’s review reminded me how I appreciate Memo Paris and makes me eager to give Marfa Spices a go, he makes it sound like a dramatic perfume for the right kind of man who can righteously pull off a spiced tuberose.

Memo Paris really knows its leathers, and I love the cardamom of African Leather, my favorite take on the leather notes they do so well.

Thank you very much, I’m in the USA.

  • Sebastian emphasizes that Marfa Spices is very masculine or unisex, but I’m still having a hard time wrapping my mind around a masculine tuberose fragrance so I’d love to sample this one (and share it with my husband). I haven’t tried a Memo Paris perfume yet — Marfa Spices sounds like a great place to start. Thanks for the very generous drawing! I’m in the US.

  • This one sounds just intoxicating – who wouldn’t want their husband to smell just like this all the time?! I’m especially wild about cardamom and can’t imagine how divine it would be blended with tuberose and other spices. I’ve not had the opportunity to try any Memo Paris fragrances yet. US here, thank you for the generous draw!

  • Thanks for the giveaway. I love tuberose and own a few fragrances with it as an ingredient. I’m glad Sebastian came around to enjoying tuberose because it’s such a great floral note. I’m in the USA and would love to win a bottle.

  • I just got my first tuberose in Nuit de Bakelite, so I would like to give this a try even though Sebastian thinks it is masculine. I do tend to lean toward unisex fragrances. The cardamom is a note I love! I now want to go to Marfa!! I love Texas, especially the high desert part. I like the flirty eye on the bottle. I like Moon Fever from this line, was so happy when the Perfume House in Portland OR started to carry this line. Thanks for keeping us informed about all the good stuff Sebastian!! US.

  • I do follow Sebastian for a long-long time-since his old channel Man Loves Cologne. The way he describes things almost makes me feel like i’m wearing the fragrance he’s talking about.Marfa Spices with added cardamom and agave sounds great.
I do own full bottle of African Leather and 20 ml decant of Granada.
    Virginia USA

  • Huge tuberose fan here-wearing Cafe Tuberosa right now.So we got here-tuberose with added cardamon, musk and cedar – i’m in-sounds delish .
My husband owns French Leather and now i’m using it from time to time,so you could say i own it hah. I’ve never smelled anything else from Memo.

  • Always such wonderful descriptions! We have grown tuberose in precious years and hope to again soon. I’m in the USA and would love to win. Thank-you so much for the giveaway!

  • A beautiful fragrance can take a note that some may not care for and turn that person into a beliver. I loved how Sebastian described that experience when he smelled Marfa in his video. My favorite Memo perfume is Tamarindo. Thank you for the opportunity!
