Le Labo & Frederic Malle Partner with Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks.Com: Featuring Fabrice Penot

Le Labo Boutique in Saks at the Houston Galleria

Living a few miles from New York City, I am spoiled. Most of my favorite Niche perfume brands are sold 30 minutes away. While I was looking wistfully at Alice + Olive Leopard platform pumps, I stumbled (they were sky high heels) across Le Labo Iris 39. Where have I been? Oblivious of course to what is great news. Le Labo and Editions Frederic Malle were introduced into the Saks Fifth Avenue at the Galleria Mall in Houston…(since June) with mini boutiques. So I reached out to Fabrice Penot of Le Labo. Here is his reply when I asked him about Le Labo's partnership with Saks.

Eddie Rauschi and Fabrice Penot of Le Labo

"With Eddie, we believe that great brands don't chase customers. Customers chase great brands. It is not our goal to be everywhere, in every department store or every mall with a store. Le Labo will remain a tight operation because that's the way we want it to be; remaining great instead of being big. To tell our story and allow our clients to connect deeply with our creations, we have invested in building our own network of standalone stores (NY, LA, Venice, SF, Paris, London, and Tokyo) and we partner with the retailers who have the vision to propose to their clients a very edited perfume choice and allow us to build our own lab. We started 6 years ago with Barneys and continue to have an amazing success story there. This year, we decided to be part of the change at Saks 5 ave who is really willing to bring craftsmanship and creation to their fragrance floor, bringing also Les Editions Frederic Malle in.

The future will tell if the audience at Saks 5 Ave will connect with our vision, but it is also our duty to educate the clients, one by one, to what fine perfumery is about and how it can play a beautiful role in their lives.

We started in Houston (Galleria) with Saks and will see if our two culture can dance together before moving forward, but there is a lot of excitement and hard work on both sides to make sure that the experience of Le Labo at Saks 5th Ave. remains 100% authentique, and we have been amazed by the integrity, the passion and the professionalism of the Saks teams to ensure that the balance between art and commerce is constantly well adjusted."-Fabrice Penot

If you search Le Labo and Editions Frederic Malle on saks.com today, I was only able to find  Le Labo Iris 39 and Editions Frederic Malle Carnal Flower I would imagine both brands will be online soon. If you live in  or will be visiting the Houston area

  • They should definitely get int Atlanta! I’m not nearby, but the Saks there has a GREAT frag dept and really good sales people.

  • The SA I know at Saks in Chevy Chase, Maryland informed me that Malle will be coming sometime in Spring of 2013! Very pleased to hear it!

  • This makes perfect sense in places that don’t have a Barneys (which is most places). Saks is trying to reinvent itself, I think/I hope, back into the luxury goods store it was back in ‘the day’. That’s everywhere but in Chicago, alas. The Chicago store, once home to white-gloved elevator attendants and fresh flowers everywhere, have devolved into Macy’s Jr.

Of course, Barneys is just up the street and carries both lines (with their own mini boutiques therein) so I doubt either brand would dilute their share with a Saks outpost.

btw – Iris 39 is my favorite Le Labo. Next time you’re in the City, get a sample of the body lotion. It’s breathtaking, Michelyn!
