Fragrance Review: Roja Parfums Vetiver Pour Homme (Roja Dove) 2016 + John Robie “The Cat” Draw

Cary Grant as John Robie "The Cat" in To Catch a Thief 1955

Roja Dove needs no introduction, as he is one of the most famous names in fragrance, with a global cult following. He is a British Master perfumer, best-selling author, The Creative Ambassador for Great Britain and his eponymous luxury brand is well known all over the world. Last year he released Vetiver EDP Pour Homme which is classified as a Chypre, and is created with  oakmoss and a sensational BIG vetiver. Vetiver often takes a supporting role in fragrance, even when they are named "Vetiver". Not here; Vetiver is the leading man, suave, sophisticated, a little dangerous and larger than life.

Cary Grant in To Catch A Thief 1955

I immediately thought of Cary Grant as John Robie, a retired cat burglar living in high style on the Riveria in To Catch A Thief, as the type of man I could imagine wearing Roja Parfums Vetiver Pour Homme. According to Roja, “I created this to be the ultimate in how a man should smell”. Ladies, don’t let the “Pour Homme” chase you away; this can easily be worn by women as well.-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in Chief

Sebastians review makes it clear this is one of the best. Thank you.

  • I am a huge fan of Vetiver in fragrances. I love Guerlain’s Vetiver, Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver, Terre D’Hermes, as well as Creed’s Original Vetiver. I have never been able to get my nose on a Roja Dove fragrance, and I would love their Vetiver to be my first one.

  • Jed Dane says:

  • fqgouvea says:

Late in his life, when he was well into his period of dementia, my father would watch this movie over and over. I can imagine Cary Grant in vetiver!

  • I like how Sebastian contrast and compares various colonges. His detailed note breakdown allows the watcher to form a scent profile and visualize the smell almost eliminating total bling buy

  • Wisehope44 says:

As Sebastien said this perfume is a pure pleasure, I found it beautifully composed the first time I tested it. A must have.

  • I do love some vetiver fragrances, not all. I have only smelled one Roja Dove creation, it was so well done I can believe his Vetiver Pour Homme would be one of the best vetivers out there. US

  • Christian m says:

Great review as usual! Roja, always performs and is a master at what he is born to do. Musk aoud is one of my all time favorites, so I hope to experience another olfactory blessing haha.

  • Brilliant perfumer, always one of my favorite houses. Would love tot give this one a try someday.

  • Sebastian has a great nose and his recommendations are pretty much spot on! My favorite from Roja’s collection is Great Britain, one of the most elegant leather based scents I have had the honor of trying!

  • Ron gray says:

Great review and I’m very curious about this fragrance. I own a few bottle of Roja already. Thanks.

  • Sebastian I love vetiver fragrances I would love the opportunity to win.

Sebastian has a great nose and his recommendations are pretty much spot on also his taste matches mine. Hope to be able to try this.
This is out of my budget.

    IN WA,USA.

  • I loved that he mentioned that new note with the lemony green smell.. hmm.. sounds very interesting! So far didn’t try house of ROJA. As far as mr Grant goes, only movie that I can think of now is North by Northwest and it sure was a good one.. I miss that vibe.. kinda wish I lived through 40ies up to 80ies.. maybe it’s just me but feel people were more human back then.. closer community’s.. more time for each other to share life.

  • Rodney Q. Wallace says:

Such an incredible giveaway! I am such a fan of Roja Parfums. Musk Aoud and Amber Aoud are my favorites. I really enjoyed how Sebastian explained the breakdown of notes for Vetiver Pour Homme. Roja Dove is second to none one and his work speaks for itself. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Patrick Echevarria says:

I am like Sebastian,we are both vetiver lovers and has bern collecting a lot of vetiver frags. This one has yet to be added into my collection and has been in my to-buy listfor quite some time now. Have been participating at Cafleurebon giveaways a lot,if not all,but has been quite unlucky todate. Hope to break that bad luck as this is the most desired frag I want to win in all the giveaways held here at Caleurebon. Crossing fingers!! San Diego here.

  • cdb73110 says:

Drooling here. Dark (check), Green (check), Vetiver (check), Dense (check), Sping/Summer (check), OMG. Loving it. Thanks for the great review and draw. In the USA. Never tried a single Roja.

  • As usual, a great review from Sebastian. Love the way he describes notes and helps put them into perspective.

It would take a lot for any fragrance to stand up to my favorite, Sycomore, but Roja Dove could do it. I am a big fan of Danger, but I’m not sure if it’s really any better than Heritage. 😉

    Cheers, from Michigan.

  • Roger Engelhardt says:

I am also a lover of vetiver fragrances. My interest is peaked while watching this review. My vetiver of choice is the Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire, it just oozes class!!
This sounds good and it is something I would love to sample.
The only Roja Dove fragrance I own is Puredistance M, which is amazing!!
Would love to win the draw. I am in the USA.

  • Nelson Murilo says:

Great review about a great niche house, thanks Sebastian. I really do love vetiver note! I have an address in Nevada/USA.

  • Edward Gurango says:

I’ve always been into vetiver–even when I didn’t know that Eau Sauvage was a predominantly vetiver scent. This one’s a worthy addition.

  • Paulie Peanuts Aka guinea54 says:

I enjoyed his review for the same reason why I enjoy all of his reviews.. Great descriptions and just the right amount of information to get my attention and hit all the key notes about a fragrance. Always well done. I haven’t tried any perfumes from this house.. I been wanting to though. Thanks for the amazing giveaway.. very generous. I would love to try this one based on his description..

  • I love how Sebastian describes it as a dark green vetiver scent. I would love to try it out!

  • Darin Glisson says:

I really liked the note breakdown of this Fragrance and the fact he was excited about this perfume. I would love to win this.

  • Donovan Reich says:

I enjoyed hearing Sebastian breakdown the note interplay in Vetiver Pour Homme, as I am curious how it compares to the now discontinued Vetiver Extrait which I love. I love vetiver! My favorite Roja Dove is hard to select, but I’d say Musk Aoud or Danger Pour Homme Parfum. I don’t have a favorite Cary Grant movie.

  • xdonnyboyx says:

Sebastian is a big fan of the vetiver note in fragrances, as am I. When he proclaimed in his video that this was one of the great vetiver fragrances out there, I knew I’d have to give it a try. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway! I live in Virginia, USA

  • Such an interesting note breakdown. That base sounds amazing. Would love to have this Roja in my collection. Sounds like no other vetiver I’ve smelled.

  • Danny Terranova says:

This was great review and now I really want to get my nose on it. ROJA Dove has GREAT frags. I own musc Auod f* the price it’s great. I like vetiver esp. Encre Noir the BEST. I asked my mom and she said that North by Northwest is a good Cary Grant movie
    I am from LA

  • I’m just starting my own fragrance collection and Vetiver is one of the notes I like to wea. I would like to know more about niche fragrances and Roja perfumes will be an excellent starting point

  • Haoran Liu says:

I’m growing to love vetiver specially after I tried several iconic scents,Guerlain, Terre D’Hermes, Carven, Tom Ford, Etro and Annick Goutal, by far my favorite is still La Vetiver by Carven, boozy, crisp, uplifting and deep, smokey after dries down. Sebastian’s review sent me here, I’m super curious about Roja Dove, as well as his take on the classic gener- vetiver! Hope it’s a lovely surprise!

  • Great giveaway and review. I’m a fan of Creation- E and would love to win this bottle. Always a great house of fragrances. I am a fan of Vetiver.

  • doveskylark says:

I like that this fragrance can be worn in hot weather, that the notes will bloom in the summer. I spend a lot of time in Brazil, so I would love to try this. And I am happy to hear that jasmine is a note.
My favorite Cary Grant movie is “Blonde Venus.” He and Marlene Dietrich had wonderful chemistry.
I am a subscriber of Looking Feeking Smelling Great. I live in the USA.

  • Oh my, be still my heart when I saw those Cary Grant photos! Perfect illustration for such a handsome perfume.

I always enjoy Sebastian’s video reviews. He is very engaging and gives his honest opinion. If Sebastian says this is one of his favorite vetivers, then I want to try it.

My favorite Roja Dove parfum is Roja’s own Haute Luxe (I have a hoarded sample.) A close second is Diaghilev and I adore Reckless, Britannia and Bergamot.

My favorite Cary Grant movie: all of them!

Thank you for the fabulous giveaway!

  • Michael McDonald says:

I am happy that Sebastian thinks this one is good for the summer. If i acquired it i’d be able to use it pretty much immediately haha. I haven’t been able to smell any Roja Dove fragrances, but I would probably love Fetish Pour Homme and this one. I haven’t seen any Cary Grant movies because I am only in my early twenties, but I probably should watch a few! Thanks for the regular giveaways; I really enjoy being a subscriber to this site 🙂

  • fazalcheema says:

I am aware of the fact that Sebastian really loves vetiver fragrances. He presents this Roja Dove Vetiver as a fresh vetiver which makes it seem like it is along the lines of fresh vetivers like Tom Ford Grey Vetiver which I love. This vetiver seems suited to warm weather as many vetiver fragrances are more suited to cold weather. My fav. from Roja Dove is Danger Pour Homme that has guerlain’s feel. I am in the US.

  • I really enjoyed watching this review because vetiver is one of my favorite note. I haven’t tried anything from Roja Parfums. Thank you for the chance!
    I live in the US.

  • My favorite part of Sebastian’s video would definitely be him letting the viewers know which occasion this scent would work best in, as it may be difficult to tell based on notes alone.
From what I’ve sampled, Creation-E would have to be my favorite Roja fragrances.
As far as Cary Grant films go, hands down, North by Northwest is my favorite; Hitchcock cannot be rivaled.
    I live in the US.

  • cardinalmind says:

Vetiver is one of Sebastian’s favorite notes and you know he’s really discerning with regards with the vetiver scents. What I like about the vid (and his channel overall) is that its compact but information filled. I’ve smelled and crave for Roja Dove’s Enigma (Creation E). North by Northwest is my favorite Cary Grant film. Thanks and have a nice day! In US.

  • romany gerges says:

would love to have this amazing Vetiver to my collection, Vetiver is my favorite note. Sebastian is my favorite reviewer, i watched all his Vetiver ranks and i almost have all of them, except the very expensive ones that i can not afford. would love to have this one. I live in Boston, Ma

  • Enter me, please and thanks! I’ve never tried a Roja, but that’s what I like about Sebastian’s reviews – he’s always got stuff with which I’m unfamiliar. Favorite Cary Grant has to be North by Northwest!

  • therealgally says:

Sebastian always does a great job of describing the journey of a fragrance from his experience wearing it, letting the viewer know what they can expect as far as projection, longevity, and sillage. I’d love to add Vetiver to my collection! Texas, USA!

  • Juan Rojas says:

Sebashtians review has me interested in trying out one of the best vetiver fragrances on the market. Vetiver is actually one fragrance note that I am note to familiar with so it would be nice to win a bottle of one of the best vetiver fragrances on the market.

  • Beautiful review from Sebastian as always, nice summer fragrance,
I love lite vetiver notes in the fragrance but a heavy one that depends
On the combination of the notes,
    Houston, TX.

  • Lellabelle says:

I can see this is going to be a popular competition: lots of interest in Roja’s work on this site! Sebastian’s review will only generate more interest, given how this stands up!

I absolutely adore a great vetiver, and the classic movie imagery is perfect. There’s an ageless sophistication, and refinement, that nothing else quite emulates. Vetiver really does mark men’s scents of that age more than anything, to my mind – great choices, Michelyn!

Please enter me for the draw. US.

  • Im a huge fan of Roja, besides Amber Aoud, Musc Aoud and Creation E I think Vetiver is top one from this brand, Roja creations are extremely dedicated, his art craft is outstanding in every angle. I love Sebastian reviews, get always right to the point with a honest and sincere review, you can really rely on his comments and advices, thank you so much Sebastian.

  • I enjoyed that Sebastian’s review was coming from a vetiver lover’s perspective. I think that it validates his words about this fragrance. My favorite Roja Parfum is Enigma Pour Homme. And my favorite Cary Grant movie is Charade. Please enter me in the draw, I’m from the US. Thanks!

  • Justin Pohleven says:

I would love to have a vetiver scent of this level in my collection. To have a Roja Dove parfum in my collection would be a real accomplishment for me. Great review Sebastian! Always look forward to your new videos.

  • One can never have too many Vetiver fragances!! I would love the opportunity to win this bottle. Thank you from Chicago!

  • Thank you Sebastian for reviewing Vetiver. After watching the video today, I walked into Neiman Marcus and tried it on my skin. I can say the projection is not satisfying, but the smell and quality are great. Right now I am getting both vetiver and creamy woody notes equally. Plus a little bit resin and smoke.
Thanks to the Roja Parfums for the opportunity. I live in the US.

  • as usually I enjoyed Sebastian review, but most I liked his thoughts about cubeba!!!!
I like vetiver fragrances, espacially Sycomore Chanel.
I tested onlt one Roja parfums, so I would be very happy to test Vetiver.
    I live in US.
    Thank you!

  • I like Sebastian was introduced to vetiver as a note with Guerlains Vetiver. I would love to try Rojas take on vetiver. Ive only tried Creation E from the house but would love to expand my experience with it. I live in the USA. Thanks Sebastian and Cafleurebon. 🙂

  • Favourite part of the review is Sebastian explaining how the fragrance is dense but not loud. Which does suggest versatility to me.

    Hope I win.

Never tried a Roja before. My favourite Cary Grant film is North by Northwest, surprise, surprise… Lol

  • jacknolan says:

Fantastic giveaway. Thanks for what you do for the community. Love your passion for this note, but favorite part is the introduction of this as the sophisticated vetiver choice! Favorite Roja fragrance so far is Bergamot. Favorite Grant movie is definitely NXNW (Grant + Hitchcock = winner). Live in Massachusetts! 🙂

  • NiceVULady says:

Sebastian’s review makes you want to get up immediately and go buy this scent. I don’t have a favorite Roja perfume, and my favorite Cary Grant film was An Affair to Remember. Thanks for the draw. I live in the USA.

  • Oh my GOD!! Please PLEASE please consider this humble hopeful for a chance to have this bottle of Vetiver Alchemy. I will forever be Grateful. CONGRATULATIONS on being on the top of the game! My name is Demetre and I live in Troutdale Oregon. A most beautiful place!

  • thelion1856 says:

Thank you for this generous give away! My favorite part of Sebastian’s review was his listing of all the notes and description of the scent. My favorite Roja scent is Scandal Pour Homme and my favorite Cery Grant movie is the one mentioned in this post To Catch a Thief!

  • I love that Sebastian never misses a single detail. He covers so much!

    To Catch a Thief 🙂

  • Daniel Bourne says:

This really sounds like a great fragrance and right up my ally. I love vetiver and Guerlain Vetiver is currently my favorite. I would love to win this bottle.

    Thanks,

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Yes Indeed you Sebastian BIG fan of vetiver based fragrances. I also love wearing earthy, green, dark fragrances. Thanks for the review and how can I skip this after watching the review. I have Vetiver oil (Ruh-e-Khus), it is dark, green, thick and heavy that its viscosity is same as that of a honey, Just a tiny dab is enough for the whole day. So I am courious for Roja Parfums Vetiver Pour Homme to compare with.
Thanks to the generosity of Europerfumes the US distributor of Roja Parfums and Cafleurebon for the opportunity to participate in the draw by letting my relative address in US.

  • Thank you for the great review, Sebastian!
I was pleased to learn from your review that Vetiver Pour Homme
opens up and is at its best in the heat. My favorite by Roja Dove is Lily and my favorite Cary Grant movie is North by Northwest.

  • I have been watching Sebastian for many years now and he never disappoints! Wow… A ROJA Parfums for a giveaway!!!! I have never had a chance of putting my nose around this house. It almost seems to be a dream fragrance since the cost is for myself out of reach… Every reviewer praises it’s quality though… Anyway one of my favorite Cary Grant Movie is Father Goose. THANK YOU

  • Im in Texas and I have not sampled any from the Roja Dove House but and getting to it. I’m intrigued by their style and quality. Interesting!!

  • Pete Pohlen says:

I liked the short and sweetness of the video. My favorite Roja Dove is Enigma and I have never seen a Cary Grant movie

  • kaitracid says:

Like Sebastian, I am a vetiver fan and really liked the description of the fragrance, I think I’d be mad about it. I barely smelled Roja’s creations, the best I think are M (work for Puredistance) and Fetish PH. I am not a connoisseur of older movies so I am not familiar with Cary Grant’s work.

  • Jomathan Be Swift says:

Always love Sebastian’s role he plays on You tube , for he brings us many different fragrances , and the parfumers to us that we have may never heard of before. Favorite Roja , Diaghilev. Favorite ,well favorites , movies of Mr Grant are, Holiday with Ms. Hepburn, Operation Petticoat with Mr. Curtis and my all time favorite is , of course, North by Northwest. Thank you Sebastian and Cafleurebon for giving us this chance to participate in this drawing

  • Really like the way this fragrance sounds based on Sebastian’s review and it really helps that vetiver is my favorite note. He says it’s green captured in a bottle and the ultra vetiver that has to be tried by a vetiver fan.
I like Fetish Pour Homme from his line, a very good and classy leather.

  • Possum Pie says:

My favorite Roja Dove frag is Amber Aoud, but I like Mona di Orio’s Vetyver so maybe I’ll try Roja’s Vetiver. I dislike Creed’s Vetiver, so maybe I’ll like Roja’s. They are extreme opposites as companies go. Favorite Cary Grand Movie by FAR is Arsenic and Old Lace.

  • Jermel Kidd says:

I love this fragrance and would love to win a bottle just in time for my birthday! *Initiating birthday dance*

  • WaltherP99 says:

I’m a huge vetiver fan and Roja Dove , and still keep my empty bottle of the original 2012 Extrait version-HUGE fan.
I’ve never smelled this version before and i hope i’ll have the chance.
Own full bottle of Extrait version of Enigma (aka Creation-E in US) – the best suit and tie fragrance imo.
I’m following Sebastian since early 2013 and his older chanel Man Loves Cologne .

  • Dev Kuzmer says:

Wow I love Roja and cant believe they are giving a full bottle away. Hope I win. Good luck to everyone:)

  • I absolutely love Sebastian’s reviews and commentary for several years
now. I am so excited that you are giving away a full bottle of Roja Dove’s Vetiver, I just had to enter the drawing. Vetiver is my favorite note in perfume. I love the natural smell of it over all fragrance notes. I am grateful
for the opportunity to win a bottle. Thank you for your generosity and I have bookmarked your site to my favorites. VetiverBoy
