Eight & Bob Egypt Fragrance Review + From The French Riviera to The Great Pyramids

A young Jack Kennedy in Egypt, 1939© Kennedy archives

Do you know the real story behind the  fragrance brand Eight and Bob? Trust me; you will be surprised, as it involves a French perfumer and a young John F. Kennedy. Briefly, J.F.K.  was vacationing on the French Riviera in 1937 and met Albert Fourquet, a purveyor of fine fragrance and his butler Phillipe. John F.Kennedy was captivated by one particular cologne and charmed Foruquet into leaving him a sample. When he returned home to America, he wrote Albert Fourquet and asked for eight samples for his friends “Bob”, none other than his brother Robert F.Kennedy. J.F.K. named the fragrance Eight and Bob Fast forward, it was a big hit with Hollywood stars like Cary Grant and James Stewart. Unfortunately Albert Foruqet passed away, but Phillipe hid the formula from the Nazis; later his family kept the formula alive and into the 21st century Phillipe’s descendants own the brand Eight & Bob.

Now that you have the history, let’s move on to the 2014 release called Eight & Bob Egypt. Sr. Contributor Sebastian Jara of the YouTube Channel Smelling Great, and founder of a popular Facebook Group,  who is also fascinated with Egypt, Eight & Bob Egypt– Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief

I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews and his passion for fragrances comes through in his videos! I have never gone wrong with a bottle bought after hearing his review. I loved that this fragrance is based on Egypt and it’s culture. The spicy notes (cardamom and nutmeg) in this fragrance have me wanting to run out and buy a bottle ASAP. I have followed you both on Facebook and Instagram. Thanks for the draw and I live in the US!

Like always, Sebastian’s knowledge, insight, and passion shine through and with this review there is no exception. How he explains the combination of fresh barber shop fougere and spice sounds intriguing. Winning this would be great and an awesome way to smell this house.

  • Sebastian always perfectly captures a scents profile so we as viewers have a great heads up as to what a scent will smell like. I personally live this fragrance.

  • I trust Sebastian opinion since he is very experienced reviewer. I liked the nostalgic feeling that he has when smelling this fragrances, which brings him to his childhood. I love that scent as well. I had a chance to smell it before. I would love to have a bottle in my collection. Thank you for a giveaway. (illinois)

Got to say, Egypt is on of my top three of the Eight and Bob releases (Original and Cap D’Antibes are the other two) . Would love to get a full bottle. I do love fougere fragrances.I love the description of the spices and how they related to his experience with his father that Sebastian related in the video.

  • Jose cerrillo says:

Sebastian has some very great fragrance reviews very well detail. I’m just here because cafleubon it’s one of my favorite fragrance websites.

  • Sebastian always has excellent reviews. I like that he is concise yet enthusiastic with his reviews. I also like that there is no attitude with his reviews. It’s as if you have a very knowledgeable friend telling you what’s so great about a certain scent.

  • Devicemanager says:

Sebastian always nails it i really dont know how he does it all the time i cant describe a fragrance like he can my guess its the years of looking feeling smelling great hahah

It’s my first time participating in a giveaway. I have been following Sebastian reviews for the 2 years, his insight and passion for fragrances especially spicy ones attracts me to his channel.keep it up Sebastian.

  • Sebastian is very knowledgeable and doesn’t give in to the hype when it comes to highly talked about fragrances. He always gives an honest opinion, and he doesn’t try to pump out reviews to get someone hyped to buy a frag that won’t be talked about a year later. He keeps it real and makes thoughtful recommendations and reviews.

  • I always like Sebastians stories that he tells in his reviews that a fragrance reminds him of a time or place or experience. Like this cologne reminded him of his father and other male members of his family. I love barbershop colognes so I would like to try this. I’m in the United States, New York. Thank you for the giveaway!!

  • FRANCES A DANNA says:

Egypt by Eight & Bob sounds deliciously spicy. I can picture myself wearing this fragrance while lingering over creamy rice pudding and sipping Turkish coffee in a middle eastern restaurant, savoring every moment. Nutmeg, cardamom and patchouli work so well together. I have recently discovered Sebastian’s fragrance reviews which led me to CaFleureBon.

  • Had a decant if this. Loved the scent but performance was horrible on me. That discouraged me from getting a bottle. I’d love to win this bottle. Excellent review as always

  • Jemarlon93 says:

Sebastian’s videos/analysis of any fragrance he reviews is almost as of you’re sleeping it yourself. This gem has been on my wishlist since the moment I sampled it in an outlet mall in Grapevine, Texas. Considering this is my first comment ever on this website and under Sebastian’s channel (in which I’m incredibly fond of), I must say I consider myself fortunate to have caught the video and able to participate in this giveaway.

  • Sebastian always has very informative reviews on products. He is very insightful and articulate. I really dig barbershop fragrances and have already had a 8ml sample of Egypt which I used. Would really dig a full bottle.

  • Jake smith says:

This fragrance sounds like my kind of taste with the oldschool barbershopish vibe. I like the spices especially cardamom. Egypt is one of my favorite countries they have such a unique history I hope this one reminds me of Egypt. I have my tried anything from eight and Bob yet but I do have one in my scentbird que. I’m definitely going to get sample at some point. Thank you for introducing me to this one, and as always great article keep up the good work!

  • Just Add Light says:

Never actually smelled this one, but I’m wearing LNDL today and they both share lavender, cardamom and spices in the notes. I’m also a huge patch fan so anytime I hear “a dominant patchouli”, ny nose starts to itch. lol Seriously though, I really enjoyed Sebastian’s enthusiasm for Egypt, his familial reminiscences, and especially his overuse of the word LOVE! From what I’ve been hearing, it’s all you need. In North Carolina.

  • Amirpasha ghasempour says:

I haven’t tried this fragrance but it sure does sounds interesting. All the spices ❤️ And the patchouli as a dry down, what is better than this?

  • Sebastian’s reviews are always great. He really enjoys this middle eastern type fragrance. A modern spicy fougère you can say. Would love to try this out and own a bottle one day. I love the note of cardamom. Haven’t tried anything from this House either. Thanks for the giveaway

  • For real? What a great story about the Kennedys especially a day before the anniversary of RFK assassination
I would love this for my husband. Spicy fougere

  • Great review Sebastian, looking forward to sniffing this one. Love love spicy fragrances, they do remind me of East Africa

  • fazalcheema says:

Sebastian says perfumes inspired by Middle East tend to be spicy and as expectedly, Egypt is a crossover between fougere and spicy elements. thanks for the draw. I am in US.

  • newyork318 says:

Egypt is a great fragrance and Sebastian is on point describing it as pure class. Original Eight and Bob is great too, but I really like the spices in this one.

  • I like when Sebastian introduces me to a new brand and fragrance. I’d love to try this. I’m in the USA.

  • Hello from Wisconsin USA. I like fougeres and Sebastian described this fragrance as a gentlemanly fougere with spices which sounds amazing. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Sebastian review of this fragrance was very knowledgeable and outstanding. He brings the art of this fragrance to mind with a very detail review. I would love to get my nose on this fragrance. Many blessings! Do you guys contact the winner?

  • vittorapizza says:

Sebastian’s reviews are always great. I guess since he is from the Mediterranean he enjoys this kinds of fragrances, just as I do. Love the notes on this fragrance. Definitely a must try for me.

  • James2473 says:

Very interesting article and excellent review by Sebastian! I loved the way he broke down the notes and his overall description of Egypt! I also enjoyed the part of how it brings back memories of his father to him!

  • Kenneth Cribb says:

This house has been on my radar , in the way Sebastian talk about this fragrance , i enjoy some the same notes in this fragrance . Would enjoy this fragrance

  • sebastian gets another hit review again. you can tell his adoration for his olfactory passion. the spices he mentions sound so aromatic, i can smell them right now.

  • Primo Songco says:

I owned Nuit de Megeve. I also have a carded sample. Smelled and its one of the best offering from Eight and Bob. I would like to to have it in my collection definitely in the future. My dad use wear English Leather and kinda reminds of him because of the spice. Good review from Sebastian Jara. Thank you!

  • cocacarlo says:

I love how this cologne brings back pleasant “scent” memories of his father and his uncles!

I also really enjoyed how this is a classy fragrance but also works well for work.

  • I always enjoy any reviews that Sebastian does. And this fragrance sounds gorgeous! Love the spicy mid notes. And leather, patchouli and sandalwood as the drydown is right up my alley! I can’t believe how affordable it is for a 3.4 oz bottle!
    I live in the US.

I love Sebastian’s passion. Doesn’t ever seem like he is exaggerating or just saying something to say it.

  • samwriteswords says:

Good stuff. One of the most knowledgeable fragrance reviewers out there. And great taste, to boot. Egypt is fantastic, too.

  • This one sounds fantastic and Sebastian makes it sound even more incredible. Love his attention to detail.

  • Great review by sebastian he has a great way of explaining about fragrance you really get to know the fragrance well it helps with buying too.. 🙂

  • Sebastian, you do your job perfectly. I tested Eight and Bob perfumes 1-2 times, but not this perfume. This perfume sounds very interesting. It is good that this perfume has its own ” face” and not ordinary perfume as many new perfumes escecially in lux perfumery.
    US

  • I love the idea of a cologne based on Egypt. Sebastian really sells this one, he obviously likes it. The mention of lavender got me. Anything with lavender is worth a try for me! US
