Is there anything more frustrating to a beauty fanatic than these words: “out of stock” and “limited edition”?  When I first saw CHANEL’s Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Quadra Eyeshadow 268 Candeur et Experience at Saks Fifth Avenue NYC in August, I pulled out my credit card so quickly I dropped my wallet. The Sales Associate just shook her head and said “It sold out in a few days, I can put you on my waiting list.”  So I waited. And waited. It was October and still out of stock. Who knew red eyeshadow would be a thing? It has been at least two years since CHANEL has offered a quad in a similar powder formula, and I can’t help but think that had something to do with the sold out situation. It is listed as a Limited Edition, but rumor is since it so popular it may be available in the future.

CHANEL Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Quadra Eyeshadow 268 Candeur et Experience and CHANEL Rouge Profond (320) Joues Contraste Blush

The Candeur et Experience Quadra palette ($61.00)  from the CHANEL Fall 2016 Le Rouge Collection N°1 which includes 15 “red power” products including a fantastic blush 320 Rouge Profond as well as various lipliners, lipsticks, single shadows and nail polishes.

MY Fall FOTD: -Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Quadra Eyeshadow 268 Candeur et Experience (Left top: #1 and  Right #2; Left Bottom: #3 and #4),  CHANEL Rouge Profond (320) Joues Contraste Blush and ROUGE ALLURE INK Lip Color 146 Seduisant (photo Rob)

Candeur et Experience #1-warm medium chocolate brown.  Nice texture good pigmentation. The ultimate transition color and the work horse of the quad.

Candeur et Experience #2 – light brown in the pan and on my arm, but more of a warm medium brown beige with yellow undertones. My least favorite as #2 has below average pigment. Still, glides on like silk and has above average longevity.

Candeur et Experience #3– The “red” shadow which is actually a warm medium-dark russet colored shade. Nothing to fear here. Semi-matte finish and average pigmentation. You can see on my eyes, it doesn’t read “red”.

Candeur et Experience #4– In the pan it looks dark brown, but it is actually only slightly darker than #1. Good pigmentation, but to achieve the intensity in the pan, I had to apply it in layers.

Top to Bottom: #1, #2, #3 and #4 applied once over eyeshadow primer indoor lighting

Overall rating: 9 -The shadows are velvety in texture, blends beautifully, lasted from a breakfast meeting to a cocktail party and glide on easily.

Note: You will achieve more of a dramatic look if you are light to medium complected, just build the color to intensify. If you are my coloration you will need to work it (Nars Velvet Matte Foundation Annapurna, Kat Von D Lock-it foundation 56 MAC nc40 or MUFE HD Foundation Y415) and is versatile for both evening and daytime.

Now for the back order situation. It is hit or miss as a friend went on macys.com at 2:00 AM EST and snagged one; by 7:00 AM it sold out.  Last week Bloomingdales.com had the quad listed as available; it has sold out. You might want to call your local CHANEL  counter and ask them to do a store check, but you might have a better chance finding a “make-up mule” in Canada or France.

CHANEL Rouge Profond (320) Joues Contraste Blush  swatch

From the same collection, CHANEL Rouge Profond (320) Joues Contraste Blush was a pleasant surprise and is my go to blush over the past few weeks.  I really can’t go without blush, and I have been looking for a color that mimics an hour in the sun without any orange tones. Again, this is not ‘red’… more of a warm medium clay color with a hint of pink.  Exceptional pigmentation and smooth texture. Chanel Rouge Profund is great example of why I own so many CHANEL blushes. ($45) and worth every penny.

Disclosure: I received CHANEL’s Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Quadra Eyeshadow 268 Candeur et Experience,CHANEL Rouge Profond (320) Joues Contraste Blush and ROUGE ALLURE INK 146 Seduisant from the very kind people at CHANEL… with gratitude; opinions my own

  • I had been lusting for Candeur et Experience for a month
I broke down and bought it on eBay for 100.00. I loved your review and now I need rouge profond blush

  • You are so pretty! Those colors look amazing on you but really different from the Chanel model, not so made up looking
Can’t wait for your reviews of the ROUGE ALLUR Inks. Are they drying?

  • This blush looks beautiful on you and very natural. I think this is a definite must try product for me

  • Great colors. I am not sure the eyeshadows would work for me but the blush is a must have.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the inks.

  • I have tried to find the quad since I read about it and I am holding out hope. Those colors look fantastic on you and I hope they restock.
I am off to order rouge profond
It’s really helpful to see it on the face and it looks great
I have 6 Chanel blushes and agree they are the best
Thank you for the beauty reviews you write them very well
    Loved the opening picture too

  • You look stunning in these colors. I think the eyeshadow set has too warm tones for my complexion, but the blush looks promising and I’d love to try it.
