Stephanie Crystal Pierre

Profile: I call myself a mothalova, a songstress dancing fool, a wounded healer and creative visionary. Spirit flows through me and expresses herself as fierce warrior queen, an artist that weaves together the many flavors of life. I have come here to create beauty, to move and be moved by love and erotic energy. I love to express and share my passion for the sensual, esoteric & artistic treasures of life. I have found the sacred art of perfumery to be a highly satisfying form of discovery and self-expression for me to empower the wild, instinctive creative force within that arouses the soul, illuminating truth, beauty and a capacity to heal, love and be free.

How did I get into this magickal art you may ask? I suppose falling down the rabbit hole and getting lost, and just like an animal that uses scent to sniff out a trail, I did the same. I had forgotten who I was deep down inside. I didn’t go to music school despite having a full ride scholarship to the University of Miami. Instead I got a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine and became an acupuncture physician. Don’t worry Alice, figures out who she is. I remember being given some frankincense essential oil right after giving birth to my first child. I had a cough that was one of those lingering bothersome things and being a newly post-partum mother, well the coughing didn’t feel all that nice! The frankincense was miraculous. The cough disappeared instantaneously after applying to my throat. I marveled at this and the rest is history. I of course made references to how the herb frankincense is used in Chinese medicine and started making connections of how scent is healing, transformative, evocative of emotions and so on.

Stephanie's Abuelo was a musician in Cuba

The real gift though was remembering my soul roots in magic, earth medicine and the mystical. Scent is so connected to memory.

calendula

Calendula is a healing plant and its oil is an anti bacterial

I was lucky enough to have a mother that nurtured my love of the sensual and natural world at a young age. Classical piano, gymnastics and voice lessons colored my days as did horticulture, water color paints and oils. I have memories of my Cuban mother running to boil a flower instead of giving antibiotics if my brother or I were sick.

So I’ve been making potions since then. It wasn’t until I read Mandy Aftel's Essence and Alchemy that I became hooked on the “love zombie juice of perfume.” I mean I’m a Libra sun. I’ve always been enthralled by beauty, art, makeup and fashion but, when I found that perfume was magickal that really magnetized my Venus in Scorpio.

magic book

"You never forget your first love.” And thus began my synthesis of connecting sound, vibration, scent and movement. My passion lies in teaching and performing these little ritual pleasures using perfumes to cast a spell, charm in the boudoir, call upon a weapon of protection and/or invoke the goddess most appropriate for the occasion. Which brings me to my love of storytelling. Astrology and mythology are so intricately linked and both have such a life long history to perfumery. So much of what I create whether it be a chocolate aphrodisiac elixir, potion, a song, poem or perfume tells a story. Some are witty and playful others a bit darker and mysterious. My specialty is designing custom perfumes for individuals and/or biz brands based upon their unique astrological chart ie your unique story.  I have been called many times a magician. I take people on a journey, an experience, give them a road map and remind them that their life is an adventure and sometimes the hero's journey is ridden with obstacles and monsters of our own reflection.   I show them how to wield their own powers and create their own fairytale story with beauty, style and luxury.

On American Perfumery: What does it mean to be an American Perfumer you ask? Freedom. Period. Never have I had anything so precious. Well, maybe love and to me they are one in the same. I am so grateful for all of the many blessings that we have, to be able to grow our own plants, to source and sell plant materials, to create, to express, to make money, to feel orgasms, to marry who we want to marry, to have friends and community. Freedom. How sweet it is to be free and yet so many times we take this for granted here in this amazing country. You can argue that this and that are wrong with this country and if that is you, then by all means if you love something you must value it as well, otherwise that love is just a word and not a verb. Freedom is a state of mind. I have learned that here.

Glenn Frey, 1974

Glenn Fry 1974

Favorite American Artist: Growing up I was very much moved by the Eagles. I knew all their songs. I luckily took my father to their concert last year before Glenn Frey’s death. After moving to the horse country of Ocala Florida from Miami as a kid…my god what a culture shock, I longed for the arts in what was such a backward town to me.

" Soul For Real"Christopher aka Choc, Andre aka DreKD, Brian aka Bri and Jason aka Jase

I felt so estranged from my homeland of Miami. The R&B boy band “Soul For Real” became my healing balm. It was from listening to many hours of their music that I knew what a deeply sentient being I was..

  • The entire read was interesting. The frankincense on the throat part is something I’m going to try when needed. I would like the oil-based Ares please. 🙂 usa

Stephanie’s path from oriental medicine to perfumery is quite unusual. Like many perfumers, she also engaged in lot of arts and cultural activities including singing and piano. Mandy Aftel influenced Stephanie as well just as she influenced Andy Tauer. I must add I also like some of the Eagle songs. Eagle should be mentioned more often like other music groups from the same era. Best of wishes on your perfumery path and congrats Cafleurebon on 100th American Perfumer profile.

My choice will be Ares. I am in the U.S. I opt for the alcohol formula.

  • I like how she used ingredients known in perfumery for illness. I’d like the oil based Virgo Vixen (US).

  • Iuno Feronia says:

I like how she takes people on a journey and remind them that their life is an adventure and sometimes the hero’s journey is ridden with obstacles and monsters of our own reflection.

I live in the EU and I would like to have the oil bases Virgo Vixen.

Thanks for the draw and all the best!

  • Wonderful review. I very like the all part of Stephanie’s path to perfumery. So unique and interesting. I would very like to try the oil-based Ares. Thank you for the draw! I live in Europe.

  • You’re awesome in every way! Your perfumes are pure alchemical magic! Love you to the moon! As for my pic…as you know, I LOVE the Ares, but perhaps I’ll give the Vixon a go…BIG love! xoxo

I would like to try Psyche perfume in alcohol base. I like her roots in what she describes as “magic” – I like the description of finding natural sources of healing – indeed, very magical. I am from VA, U.S.

P.S. I liked the Facebook page!

  • I love artists of all types and seeing their influences. And I love seeing what people are passionate about and how that influences their lives. ‘And thus began my synthesis of connecting sound, vibration, scent and movement.’ is a mindset I can identify with but at same time wonder about merging all those elements.
    I live in USA

Would love to try Virgo Vixen

  • I love that Stephanie came to perfumery partially through natural medicine. I just found out that frankincense oil is used medicinally, on top of smelling great. Amazing! I live in Canada and would love to win the Wildcard Sampler.

  • Thank you for all the beautiful comments! Frankincense is such a great oil and is considered a blood mover in Chinese Medicine therapeutically. So it is great for circulation of blood and stagnant fluids such as phlegm, adipose tissue and chronic inflammatory conditions. So if you inhale the fragrance it is helping to vitalize and course the blood throughout your entire mind body system!

  • Wonderful article and I love her transition from oriental medicine to perfumery! I had no idea that frankincense oil could be used medicinally. I’m so intrigued by that, that I’m going to look into other oil’s that can be used that way. I love her creativity and passion. I live in the US and my choice is Ares! Thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • Diana Devlin says:

It’s fascinating that Stephanie went from delving into asian medicine to creating perfumes. I don’t know of any other perfumer who’s gone that path. Though, I shouldn’t be entirely surprised. I actually consider my perfumes as my daily medicine. They really lift my spirits and touch my soul. It’s an integral part of my every day life for well being.
I would choose Virgo Vixen (it’s my Rising sign in Astrology) and I’d want it in an alcohol base.
    I live in the U.S.

  • What I found truly fascinating in her path in perfumery is the fact that she used ingredients known in perfumery for illnesses’ treatment.
I would love to try the oil based Virgo Vixen since my astrological sign is Virgo.
I am a registered reader living in EU, Greece.
Thank you for the lovely review and draw.

  • What a great story–like many other commenters, I really enjoy this transition from medicine to perfumery. It makes a lot of sense to me, given the links between perfumes and essential oils! I’d love the oil-based Ares, and I’m in the EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • I really enjoyed reading about Stephanie’s path to perfumery and ” remembering my soul roots in magic, earth medicine and the mystical.” She reiterates what so many other perfumers have said that “scent is so connected to memory.” I live in the US and would like to try a wildcard sampler.

I would like to win Ares
