The 1st Artisanal Fragrance Showcase at Bergdorf Goodman + Niche Perfume Draw

Bergdorf Goodman Artisanal Fragrance Showcase

The 1st Artisanal Fragrance Showcase at Bergdorf Goodman

The first Artisanal Fragrance Showcase at Bergdorf Goodman was held Saturday, November 23rd from 12-5 pm, in the newly renovated Beauty and Fragrance floor’s Exclusive New Fragrance Lab with a selection of incredibly  desirable niche fragrance brands.  Karen Dubin, Founder of Sniffapalooza organized and curated the selection of eight amazing artisanal fragrance brands. All unique, and in very limited distribution, with most available only at Bergdorf Goodman. Most were launched within the last few years. Arriving at noon I spent the next hour talking with some of the Founders and scenting my way around the collections . And it wasn’t nearly enough time!

Atelier Des Ors at Bergdorf Goodman

Atelier des Ors at Bergdorf Goodman

One of CaFleureBon’s favorite luxury perfume houses, Atelier Des Ors, was created in 2015. The line consists of fourteen scents. The nose behind the brand is Marie Salamagne. The newly launched Riviera Collection consisting of Riviera Drive, Pomelo Riviera, and Riviera Lazuli were favorites with the attendees as was the bewitching Atelier Des Ors Rose Omeyyade. Everyone loved the exquisite bottles with gold flakes floating in the flacons.

Holly Tupper of Cultis Artem and Karen Dubin at Bergdorf Goodman

Cultus Artem at Bergdorf Goodman (Holly and Karen)

CULTUS ARTEM was conceived by Founder and Creative Director, Perfumer and jewelry designer Holly Tupper. The luxury collection has just launched exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman. The perfumes are all-natural and contain only fragrance oils, distilled water, and perfumery alcohol. The line of eight, inspired by Holly’s travels from New York to Texas to Singapore are all named after the featured ingredient. Amara and Poeticus are my picks.  A great way to experience the collection is through their boxed Discovery Set.

Best EB Florals

EB FLORALS is the LA-based brand of Eric Buterbaugh, known to all as “The King of Roses” and florist to the stars. Focused on florals, the glamourous line’s first collection was first released in 2015. Some of the A-list of perfumers behind the bottles include Alberto MorillasIlias ErmenidisHonorine BlancHarry Fremont, and Pierre Negrin.  All are 100ml. Candles have since been added into the mix. A nice touch was an option to have purchases engraved today.

Frank Salzwedel of Elisire at Bergdorf Goodman

Elisire at Bergdorf  Goodman

ELISIRE Founder Franck Salzwedel  spent time with me discussing his artistic line of highly-concentrated elegant and modern perfumes. Since launching in 2015 the collection now stands at seven. All composed in collaboration with such Master Perfumers as Alberto MorilllasPierre NegrinIlias Ermenidis, and Phillippine Courtiere. Bestseller in the collection? That would be the oriental floral Desired (Phillippine Courtiere) Franck informed me. For good reason, it’s exquisite!

House of Sillage perfumes bow lipstick

House of Sillage at Bergdorf Goodman

The California based brand House Of Sillage was launched in 2011 by Nicole Mather. I was first introduced to the line at Elements in 2013 and was smitten with the original collection of jewel-encrusted festive cupcake bottles. The perfumers are Mark Buxton and Francis Camail. The brand recently released the Bow Lipstick collection.

Initio at Bergdorf Goodman Atomic Rose

Intitio at Bergdorf Goodman

Initio first debuted in 2015 with an impressive list of all-star perfumers, Alexandra KosinskiPierre-Constantin GuérosMaurice RoucelAlberto MorillasGuillaume Flavigny, and Hamid Merati-Kashani, was  a highlight at the 1st Artisanal Fragrance Showcase at Bergdorf Goodman. The line consists of three collections, the Absolutes, Carnal Blends, and Magnetic Blends. Their most recent release is the gorgeous Atomic Rose which wowed me. On my Christmas list!

Strangelove perfumes

StrangeLove

Founded in 2014 by Elizabeth Gaynes, supermodel Helena Christensen, and Master Perfumer Christophe Laudamiel, Strangelove  has amassed a cult following since launching deadofnight in 2014. Four more have followed. Lostinflowers stunned me with its beauty. The line is available in 100, 50, and 15ml in EDP  and a 10ml pure perfume oil. A jewelry collection completes the experience. (Stay tuned this week for a special feature with Strangelove).

Chris Collins of World of Chris Collins

World of Chris Collins at Bergdorf Goodman

World Of Chris Collins Brand Creator and former model Chris Collins’ love affair with Paris and Harlem shaped his artistic vision. He offers two collections, the Renaissance Collection and Dark Romance Collection. Danse Sauvage is his bestseller. Chris informed us that the brand launches the Spring of 2020 in Russia.

Bergdorf Goodman Artisanal Fragrance Showcase notable attendees: Perfumer Darryl Do of Delbia Do, Creative team members from IFF and Firmenich, Fragrance bottle designer Joseph Messina,  journalist Adelaide Farah (Beauty Fashion Magazine) Bart Schmidt, founder of Brands with Purpose,  Stephen Dirkes of Euphorium and master perfumer Christophe Laudamiel.

I’m  looking forward to next year’s Artisanal Fragrance Showcase at Bergdorf Goodman.

  • Thanks Hernando for the report. Too bad I missed this event but will definitely be on the look out for next year’s. I am most excited to hear about Cultus Artemus’s line of fragrance after reading Hernando’s description of the brand being all-natural and travel-inspired. Atelier Des Ors is also already on my list to sample after reading about it here in prior Cafleurebon blogs. Of course I’d love to check out the other brands too. Regards from Boston USA.

  • This is a great overview of very interesting brands, if which Strangelove seems to be the most intriguing. I am in the USA.

  • Hernando’s review covered all the bases on houses both known and new to me. I’m a fan of House of Sillage due to the lovely scents chock full of precious perfume oils. Sillage, indeed! All the frags sound divine and I’d love to try them all! I live in NY.

  • The House of Silage interests me the most as I have never had the chance to sample any. I have and love The Initio scents I have sampled a few and love them. Would be a wonderful experience to sample the others USA

  • Looks like you had a great time, Hernando! I have often swooned over the Atelier des Ors gold-flecked perfumes highly regarded in former Cafleurebon posts, but admittedly have never seen the House of Sillage cupcake-shaped line. How precious! As a baker and someone who used to make and sell cupcake-shaped bath bombs, I feel I must try these one day.

  • Thanks for the introduction to Cultus Artem, a new brand to me. I’m interested in the Initio brand and Atelier Des Ors. Thanks for the opportunity to try them, amongst others. Mich USA

  • Loved all the pictures of the perfumers and a listing of new fragrances. Hernando did a great job reporting who was there. I have been wanting to try some from Initio and House of Sillage. Thanks for the chance to try USA, Cali

  • Thank you Hernando for this overview of various houses some of which I hadn’t heard of before. I also appreciated the history for Initio which is a house I’m hoping to sample soon. I’m in USA

What a treat! I loved reading about EB Florals and Atelier des Ors, two brands I’m very interested in. I also had never heard of CULTUS ARTEM, so I’m glad to know what it’s about now. Thank you for sharing this fun-sounding event with us! You’re very lucky to have attended. 🙂

I’m in the USA. Thanks again!

  • I would love to try a scent from EB, as they sound so wonderful. Another location to add to my perfume bucket list. I just like being informed of perfume happenings around the us, (and the world) on CA Fleure Bon! Thank you! In the us

  • patrick_348 says:

I am not familiar with any of the brands, but they all sound super. I am most eager to try Chris Collins because he probably loves Paris as much as I do. Also Cultus Artem because I love the idea of fragrances inspired by travel.

  • Hernando’s report made me feel as though I were actually there and viewing the amazing collections of fragrances. Atelier des Ors is a favorite and is the only one that I have sampled in the past. I would love to try all of them. Thank you for the tour. I’m in the USA.

  • I enjoyed reading about the different houses. I am particularly interested in Initio, Atelier Des Ors, and House of Sillage. I have only tried fragrances from Initio Parfums of all of the houses mentioned and of Initios only three. Those three being Side Effect, Psychedelic Love, and Oud For Greatness. I loved the first two and have only tried the third once but it was nice just need to sample it more as I’m new to Oud especially. Strangelove NYC also seems very interesting, although if I remember correctly probably out of my price range at the moment unfortunately as are most really, but I look forward to learning more about them. I am in CT USA. Thanks for the draw.

  • visiting bergdorf is always a lovely way to spend a saturday afternoon, but in their new fragrance lab! those house of sillage bottles look amazing

  • I’ll need to visit here! The brands that I’d love to sample are Atelier des Ors, Initio and Chris Collins. I’ve heard such good things! USA

  • Great report ! I own atelier des ors Lune feline but am also Interested in strange love nyc. Thanks for keeping us up to date with all the N.Y. happenings
I am in Nebraska so we don’t have showcases like this

  • I enjoyed learning more about Cultus Artem as I’ve recently delved into natural perfumes and oils. As always, seeing and hearing from the creators themselves is always so nice. Thanks for a great report – makes me want to do a trip to NYC! Best wishes, from Delaware USA.

  • What a fantastic event. I wish Hernando had had more time there so we could get more details. I would love to try something from Cultus Artem and from Strangelove. Really I’d love to try all of them, and wish I had been able to attend the event. But those two stood out to me. USA

  • I could spent hours at an event like this. Too bad there are none close to my home. I like that Hernando shares his favorites.
I’d really like to try the StrangeLove and the Atelier Des Ors creations.
    I live in Indiana.

  • Great article by Hernando and I enjoyed learning about some of the best sellers in each of the fragrance houses! I really want to try Cultus Artem and I would love to see her jewelry line. I am also intrigued by Initio’s Atomic Rose since you say it’s on your Christmas list. House of Sillage is new to me so I would love to get to sample something from them. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • Shannon Ikerd says:

I’m very glad to hear of Chris Collins’ launch in Russia. I find it interesting that for this house, there was no mention of favorites, or likes from the line, but there are for all of the others.

  • wallygator88 says:

Nice quick read about all the of interesting houses that I’ve not had the chance to try.

I’d be excited to give Initio and EB Florals a shot, though I’m open to all of them.

    Love from Madison, WI, USA

  • I enjoyed Hernando’s enthusiastic and thorough review of the houses in attendance, which whets one’s appetite. I am excited to try the House of Sillage, Initio and Atelier des Ors.

  • Shamrock1313 says:

What a great scene there! It’s incredible. Atelier Des Ors, Initio and House of Sillage are always on my radar. Psychedelic Love & Lune Feline to name a few.

  • House of Sillage has been on my radar for quite some time now. The bottles are beautiful. I have yet to try any of their fragrances, but would love too. I have decants of Rehab, and Oud for Greatness by Initio. Both are very good. I just ordered a sample of Dead of the Night by Strangelove NYC. I have read really good things about the house, and am looking forward to sampling all of their offerings. Thanks for the review! US.

  • I have yet to ever be able to attend a fragrance event. I live vicariously through all of you and love seeing these articles about them. I have only just recently discovered the Initio line and I love everything I’ve smelled so far. They are a fragrance line that are definitely on my wish list.
    I live in the USA.

  • I enjoyed reading the different points of view and the various people involved in the various creative processes. I have heard of EB and Strangelove. I am most interested in initio, Strangelove, and Chris Collins. I live in the United states. Thank you.

  • How exciting to get to experience these exclusives! I am particularly interested in Elisire Desired, based on Despina’s previous review. Thank you for this chance, CONUS.

  • Good article about new brands. I have heard or sampled many of them but not have never heard of Cultus Artem so that one intrigues me the most. I like their idea of naming the fragrances after the most prominent note. Would like to try them. In the USA thanks for the draw.

  • I have not been to Bergdorf’s and my life is less because of it. I must get to NYC again!!!! I most want to try Atelier Des Ors. They are really getting attention now. I’m in Ohio.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

Reading this I realize how much more I have to learn and smell. And those cupcake bottles!!! This looks like a great event! Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • Michael Prince says:

Hernando, great report about the 1st Artisanal Fragrance Showcase at Bergdorf Goodman. I would love to try some of the fragrances in the Atelier des Ors and Initio fragrance lines. I am from the USA.

  • I love, love, love new beginnings in the fragrance world. They always leave me rooting for happy endings – especially when the fragrances are exceptional. I’ve been hear a lot about Mr. Collins’ line. I’m highly interested in trying some of his stuff. (USA)

  • I learned so much from this! I had no idea Helena Christensen was a cofounder of Strangelove. It’s very clever of Mr. Buterbaugh to leverage his fame as a florist into a line of floral perfumes! Also, I’ve always wondered about the House of Sillage. Obviously the bottles are cute and fun, but is the juice inside enough to justify the high prices? I’d love to sample them to find out, and am also curious to sample the offerings of Strangelove, Atelier des Ors, and Initio! I’ve already sampled some of the offerings from Chris Collins. As always, thanks Hernando for the thorough breakdown- you always make me jealous I’m too far away to attend the NY events! I am in CONUS 🙂

  • Awesome re-cap of the event by Hernando! Very comprehensive, and I love his personal comments with background about the brands and which fragrances attracted him. Terrific job! Xoxo
