Olya Bar(r) and Steven Gavrielatos aka Redolessence Ten Best Perfumes of 2022

Now that you have heard from Ermano and me, (our ten Best Perfumes of 2022 ) and (The Best Fragrances of 2022 here), Ida and Lauryn, Emmanuelle and NicoletaKarl and Michael,  Hernado and Rachel we wrap up our Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 overviews with Editors Olya Bar and Steven Gavrielatos.

What are the Top Ten Best Perfumes 2022

2022 has been a busy year for the fragrance industry, with many novelties. In all honesty, this list represents only a small fraction of all the fantastic olfactory works I have been lucky to experience this year. Many brands tapped into the memories as inspiration. There was a heavy focus on the ingredients and sustainability, and I’m beyond excited to see what the brands, perfumers, and creative directors have in store for us in 2023.In alphabetical order-Olya Bar, Editor

Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp): One cannot deny the genius of Olivier Cresp’s work. With the launch of his brand, exploring the vices and deep desires humans experience, I fell in love with his most well-known take on caffeine addiction with Akro Awake. The latest work, Akro Ink, was inspired by the memory of the first tattoo, the anticipation, and the taste of adrenaline mixed with excitement. The ancient art of body art goes far beyond trendy body decoration; it’s a reminder of a time, a place – a fleeting moment that becomes a permanent memento. A good fragrance works similarly – something you carry on your skin to remind you of who you are. I got my first tattoo right after turning thirty years old. For me, it wasn’t a rebellious act of a teenager but rather a significant moment of inscribing an idea, a thought, and an emotion to forever etch in my skin, a reminder of who I am. That may be why Akro Ink holds a special place in my heart.

Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne): Atelier des Ors PINK ME UP became perhaps one of the most festive releases for me this year and is one delectable cocktail of fruits and florals, the addictive pétillant of the drink known worldwide to symbolize a celebration. he true gem of this fragrance lies at its heart. A distinct CHAMPAGNE ingredient makes it unique and almost fizzy at the top. As a lover of vibrant, tart, and bubbly, I expect to enjoy it all through the holiday parties. Pink Me Up is a perfect remedy for those gloomy days of the winter season when holidays are over, and with nothing but cold weather months ahead, we all require remedies to combat the winter blues. Creating a fragrance to celebrate life after the last few years of the unknown is a perfect way to end the year with a victorious toast. Let us raise our flutes to that!

Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui): If only Frustration’s taste had always been as sweet as this breathtaking cocktail of rum, roasted chestnut, and warm vanilla with a heft pinch of cinnamon and a dirty whiff of cumin. Playful and naughty, this is perhaps one of a few gourmand fragrances we have encountered from Etat Libre d’Orange. Frustration manages to shift from the spicy intensity to a calm creamy hug, and just when you begin to relax in its presence, it slaps you with cumin once again. Marvelous work by Mathilde. As Etienne de Swardt says,” And Frustration is what we need, my friend.”

Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):  A beguiling new addition to the Botanical Series, this fragrance blew me away. An incredibly transporting olfactory imagination expresses the scent of aromatic fields of sunburnt lavender, where the sun’s fierce heat crisps the delicate blossoms. Australia always seemed like one of the most exotic and adventurous places, with the richest flora and fauna. As an avid equestrian, I can compare this perfume to the feeling of galloping through the lavender fields while surrounded by a rich sillage of the leather saddle and civet mimicking the hot skin of the animal underneath you. A unique and confident take on lavender with oakmoss, earthy patchouli, a resinous oud, and golden amber. Purple Suede makes a confident statement, be ready to tame its wild spirit, or it will swallow you whole.

House of Bo Rosario (Olivier Cresp): Part of the latest Tesoro collection, which translates to precious memories, Rosario was based on the childhood memories of Bernardo Moller, savoring the spicy sweet dessert of pomegranate with chili peppers and lemon sorbet after school in his native Mexico. Bernardo had been looking to recreate that innocent and happy association with the tangy and luminous dessert taste for some time. The cards aligned when he met Olivier Cresp, who chose to use one of his signature citrus accords – the Primofiore Lemon. Cultivated in the province of Siracusa, it is ranked among the best in the world due to the high quality of its essential oils, often used to give the ice cream a superb taste and flavor. Paired with the elegant brightness of freesia and peonies, it creates a delicate gourmand facet to the fragrance with a soft creamy undertone of ambergris. The base is grounded with vetiver, which brings out the zestiness of the lemon so well, rounding off the structure.

Ten Best Perfumes of 2022

INITIO Parfums Paragon: The third pillar in the Hedonist Collection, INITIO Parfums Prive Paragon, is focused on the spiritual connection. Soft and sensual, it greets us with a zesty burst of bergamot, soothing lavender, and white sage with a pinch of pepper to add a touch of fire from the start. The heart is bursting with the juiciness of ripe plum, and palo santo is enveloped in the comforting sensuality of sandalwood and the delicate touch of oud. The woods round the composition, pulling it together into a warm cocoon I feel like reaching for when I need to center my mind and soul. I have been burning palo santo in my house as part of the morning ritual for many years. When I smelled Initio Parfums Paragon, I felt a rush of peace and comfort all around me, as if with a spritz, you create an invisible shield beyond which is a place where stress isn’t allowed to roam free, and everything seems aglow.

Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch): If you ask me, Maison Crivelli is one of the most exciting brands to enter the niche arena in the past few years. Thibaud Crivelli’s personal experiences and creative visions he manages to recreate so vividly through fragrances are nothing but spectacular. His close collaboration with Quentin Bisch, one of the leading perfumers in the niche landscape, for all the three extraits in the collection has been extra special for me as I am a massive fan of everything Quentin signed in the last decade. Ambre Chromatique explores the depth of the jungle, a scent of an adventurous journey into the depth of the dangerous forest in search of the precious amber resin. The bark cracks underneath your feet in the nocturnal jungle as you make your way deeper into the lush greenery. The singing of birds around you, colorful flora, and fauna showcasing all the vibrant colors nature can create. You are surrounded by an aroma of the most exotic flowers and abundant vegetation everywhere you look. Finally, you feel the precious resin between your fingers, inhalings its deep incense-like aroma while sensing a taste of boozy, slightly bitter vanilla on your lips. A composition is both intoxicating and addictive, and if you are a lover of all things amber, this perfume is for you.

Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani): A fragrance to celebrate a peaceful day in a cozy Parisian Cafe in the middle of the 1920s. A cup of aromatic coffee, the aroma of freshly baked goods mingling with a soft whiff of a cigar someone is enjoying nearby. Constructed as an Amber Fougere, it leans more into the territory of Gourmand for me. Quite a unique take on two familiar genres, yet from a new perspective. The opening notes are a bit on the drier side with a soft aromatic combination of lavender and sage that slowly give way to the heart of fluffy mimosa and jasmine on the bed of caramelized Tonka beans and vanilla. The woodsy base accord consists of warm woods with a slight resinous zing. A great release just in time for the winter season. I will be cozying up to it for many days to come.

Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer): Teo Cabanel Encore is a true feel-good fragrance that evokes soothing memories of baking for me. It opens up with that first flavor of carrots and a brightness mixed in with the peach, while the heart is served with a hefty dose of nutty goodness—a soft scent of dough in the background and a deep earthy flavor of the almond flour. The buttery smooth iris in the heart is thick and lactonic, deeply sensual, and warm. Iris always brings the necessary depth with it and amplifies the overall sensation. And finally, the woodsy base of sandalwood can always make any fragrance more round and complete. You can’t find a better aroma to cozy up with on a couch after the holidays while sipping on a steaming chai latte.

Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann): Our brief encounter in Milan earlier this year might have been by chance, but my love affair with Thomas’s work will clearly last a while. I knew from the first whiff of Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur parfum that this fragrance would become one of my favorites. It was in a simple rollerball months before the final stages of production. Oh, it was glorious, incredibly complex, warm, and enveloping. It felt novel yet beautifully familiar, multi-faceted yet relatable, and artsy yet easy to understand. The opening of lush suede-like magnolia with a tart osmanthus, Moroccan rose, and a nutty sensual base of tonka bean with a never-ending sillage of soft ambroxan. It spoke to me immediately, and I fell deeper into my infatuation with Thomas’s work with every wear.

Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 Honorable mention: Mizensir Ambre Magique (Alberto Morillas): Alberto Morillas has captured my heart with his work for dozens of perfume brands in the past. And while Mizensir, Alberto Morrilas’s brand, has been known chiefly for candles, the collection of fragrances is superb. Ambre Magique is a luminous and sensual blend with a vibrant, woody intensity. It forms a kaleidoscope of olfactory sensations with a juicy burst of mandarin and aromatic cardamom in the opening. The heart is a celebration of the golden orange blossom, caramelized by amber. The bold sweetness of bourbon vanilla and musk set a contrast against creamy and rich. This is one olfactory magic potion, a complex concentration of a thousand scents and the stories that inspired them.

Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 Steven

While 2022 seemed to unravel in a milder manner when compared to 2021, to say that this year was uneventful would be an unjustly statement.  Many brands released iconic fragrances that seemed to receive much praise, and in-person events began to make a comeback.  New favorite fragrances were discovered, and meaningful connections to brands and people were made. I am thankful for all things fragrant that I had the pleasure of enjoying this year, and among my favorite fragrances are the ten new releases listed below!-Steven Gavrielatos, Video

Initio Parfums Privés Paragon (Perfumer Undisclosed): Initio Parfums delivers greatness once again with their new release Paragon. The name suggests that the fragrance is the perfect example of something, and the very thing that it aims to perfectly exemplify is subjective in nature. Its opening of plum and palo santo is meditative and unquestionably rich. The calming notes all rest on a bed of oud and labdanum, which both establish the amazing longevity for which the fragrance continues to get praise.

Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti): Faris is a word that translates to “knight” and as you’ll quickly notice, the perfume is capable of erecting a protective barrier around you that is enriched with aromas of apple, lavender, jasmine, and amber. The freshness of the composition is incomparable, and the brightness of the citrus makes this an optimum selection for a formal or professional setting. Faris is the counterpart to Almaz, and the two pair together in perfect harmony. Fans of the brand have an outstandingly difficult time determining which of the two they prefer.

Narcotica Dulce Diablo (Claude Dir):Gourmand lovers are in for a real treat with Dulce Diablo by Narcotica. This new niche brand has already brought us three exceptional creations, and the most recently arrived of which is Doza. Dulce Diablo happens to be my favorite (considering that I have a penchant for gourmand creations), and I find the combination of booze and apricot to be completely arresting. Cognac and run add the spicy bite before dulcet wafts of chocolate and vanilla from Madagascar sweep in to overtake our senses with their amiable ways.

Frederic Malle Uncut Gem (Maurice Roucel): While fresh fragrances from the Frederic Malle brand are more of a rarity than they are a complete anomaly, Uncut Gem is a fragrance that inspired a bit of head scratching and pensive musings. On first sniff, the citrus that first greets you may give you the impression that you will soon be led down familiar and uninspiring territory. However, time spent with this fragrance reveals a completely different side of the story. Angelica root creates the herbal appeal, and a natural-smelling ginger notes produces a brightness that is hard to hate. A resolute musk ingredient accompanies olibanum for a smooth yet mysterious conclusion.

Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
Roja Dove’s releases are infrequent, and this hopefully conveys that much time and thought is added to each blend so that what eventually makes its way to the market is thoughtfully composed and brilliantly expressed.  Apex is no exception as it flawlessly combines pineapple and cypress with a leather accord. This modern chypré perfume also conveys its darkness with notes of oakmoss, rum, and incense. Apex is a professional and modern fragrance for any perfume-savvy individual.

Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette): 1270 was one of the brand’s earliest installments, and consumers fell in love with the blend of dried fruits, cognac, plum, cacao, and honey. The sweet tones create an agreeable atmosphere to satisfy any sweet tooth, and the Extreme version of this fragrance amplifies everything in a delectable way. This fragrance, which is composed by Jérome Epinette, strengthens the tonka and pineapple for a contrasting aura that is altogether fresh and sweet. Those who have come to love the original will discover a new love with 1270 Extreme!

Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father (Bertrand Duchaufour): Vilhelm Parfumerie is one of the most versatile brands on the market. From Black Citrus to Morning Chess, the diversity of their perfumes serves as an accolade towards defining the brands versatility. To My Father is a 2022 release that fuses whiskey with bitter orange, davana, cade oil, and oak. At times, the perfume conveys aromas of tobacco and honey. To My Father is altogether classy and distinguished. For the special gentleman in your life, To My Father would make the perfect gift this season!

Parfums Quartana Ierofante (Luca Maffei): Leave it to Joseph Quartana to take inspiration from his personal experiences and transform them into a breathtaking perfume. Today’s subject focuses on the accord of suede leather with a gasoline accord and dry amber. You will take a metaphorical journey to the stars with Ierofante, which takes its name from the tarot card Hierophant. The styrax is warm and slightly medicinal while the spices are aplenty to create an enigmatic and enchanting aroma.

Manos Gerakinis Methexis (Chris Maurice): Methexis is the latest masterpiece from the Greek brand Manos Gerakinis, and having had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the creative director, the inspiration behind this perfume was revealed. The fig accord is a nod to the region from which this fragrance draws inspiration, and the gourmand duality of cacao and honey is irresistibly flavorful. Amber in the base is constructed from a combination of vanilla and benzoin, and the end result is a fruity gourmand with astonishing longevity!

Widian Baniyas (Jordi Fernandez): Widian is a brand from the United Arab Emirates that was originally founded in Abu Dhabi. Lavender and vanilla make up the heart of this enchanting perfume, and patchouli adds to the amber genre in a traditional way. Oud evokes the region from which this exotic perfume hails, and the various elements of the composition are brought together in a creative yet natural way.

Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 (Linda Pilkington): Whether you’re an “Oxford man” or a new-moneyed New Yorker, Gatsby 22 is the fragrance to leave you smelling sophisticated and energetic. Unlike the green light that James Gatz spent so many nights admiring, the smell of Gatsby 22 is much closer to us, and it’s not going anywhere any time soon. The musk and vetiver are long lasting, and the opening of bergamot and lemon is fresh and inviting.  Orange blossom is the star of the show, and the note brings forth a freshness that is both citrusy and floral. Why not give it a try, old sport?

  • Most of what’s on both lists will be on my “to try” list for 2023. Since you’ve both picked Initio Paragon, that’s first. Thanks for all the reviews. Happy New Year from New Jersey, USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

    Thanks for the neat lists.

Would love to win a bottle of the Initio Prives Paragon.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I would echo most of Olya’s list, so was excited to see so many of my own favorites mirrored in hers – Ink, Purple Suede, Frustration, etc. It was also cool that both Olya and Steven chose Paragon so that is the one I’d love to win. I have really enjoyed all of these favorites lists, and will no doubt be revisiting them to make sure I try some of those I haven’t yet. I am in the US, in Illinois. Happy New Year!

  • Olyas list was more familiar with Fragrance brands. Awake great coffee scent. Libre d’Orange. Frustration I own a bottle nice gourmand.purple suede and great one .Atelier des Ors PINK ME another wonderful brand. As per Stevens picks Paragon I heard is a beautiful fragrance and Faris and Gatsby 22. Paragon sounds great and Faris love the bottle. Thank you for this Chance USA Happy New Year to all at Cafleurebonofficial

  • I thought that they were great choices and I absolutely agree with them. ÇafleureBon articles are so helpful. Lots of love and all the best in 2023! I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I would like to win a 100 ml bottle of KAJAL Faris

  • Thanks to Steven and Olya!

Apex and Frustration are both on my ‘to try’ list. I’m honestly a bit surprised to see Apex on the list as keep seeing very mixed things about it.

I would love to win Paragon!

    Thank you from Canada!

  • LATONYA GIPSON-BOWMAN says:

This list was Amazing. Steven, definitely does his homework and olya describes the fragrances to the tea.. I would love to win Paragon, simply sounds like an Amazing fragrance. Happy New Year
    Orlando, Florida USA

  • I am thrilled to see Parfums Quartana Ierofante in the hit list! The gasoline accord is truly addictive and pairs so well with the suede and amber. A stunner! I am curious to try Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire and Akro Ink. I would love to win the Kajal. This was another very enjoyable article! Hello and Happy New Year from the U.S.

  • I’ve definitely heard a lot of great things about Ink. Would be nice to sample that cumin note in Frustration too. Olya made it sound like a sneaky jab from Ali. Somehow cut my teeth on cumin only a few years ago with Declaration, Amouage’s Fate Man and Tous’ 1920, but really started to enjoy it lately in FM’s POAL. The note isn’t officially listed, but I absolutely get it in the mid. Purple Suede still in my top 3 from GF&B but I’ve yet to try Paragon! Wonderfully vivid description of Bisch’s Ambre Chromatique from Olya. He’s certainly a master with synthetics isn’t he? Bit of a surprise to see Uncut Gem if I’m honest, but I will say that Apex edp was a nice surprise for me this year. The balance of dark greenery is just right. “Professional” is a great descriptor. 1270 Extreme the only other one I’ve worn (probably in my top 3 from 2022), but I believe Gatsby 22 was on my to-try list… And a delicious description of Mathexis to be sure. I seem to recall Gerakinis’ beautiful bottles. Didn’t even know about To My Father! But if it has aromas of tobacco and honey, it seems like I’d be a fan. Appreciate the annual wrap-up from two people that I absolutely adore. You know I still have that clip of Olya bursting out laughing when Carlos gets her name wrong on YT. lol Makes me smile every time. Paragon would be my pick to win! Canada.

  • Olya’s review of Etat Libre d’Orange Frustrations reminds me that sometimes we love a perfume and wish certain aspects of it lasted longer. Steven seems impressed by Uncut Gems and its different, unexpected facets. My choices are Initio Parfums Prives or Kajal Faris. I am in US.

  • I love the top 10 lists.
It affirms that I might have good taste in scents as I have at least one or 2 from each top 10 list and also gives me a sniff list to shoot for when I get out to sample some new fragrances.
The Mizner fragrances are available locally for me and I do enjoy Ambre Magique.
I am adding Manos Gerakanis and Narcotica as house to look for in 2023.
I would pick the Initio as the one to win.
    Happy New Year every one.
    Oklahoma USA

  • The way you folks describe a fragrance is a talent equivalent to your olfactory.

Olya took me from Australia with her description of Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede. So vibrant, and adventurous.

Although, it was a mention, I can smell the bourbon vanilla on Mizensir Ambre Magique.

Steven really touched a lot of the fragrances I want to try (probably because I have watched a lot of his videos).
Frederic Malle Uncut Gem, Roja Parfums Apex, Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father.

I would love to get Kajal Faris from this giveaway.

I wish a healthy, and wonderful 2023 to all at Cafleurebon.

    From Massachusetts, best to all.

  • After reading another of these lists, I have more ideas for my next sample run. For this draw I’d love the Faris

  • Great lists. Happy to see Steven include Dulce Diablo as it was a hit among the Tik-Tok, YouTube, and Instagram reviewers but didn’t see too much buzz about it on here. Olya’s inclusion of Purple Suede reminded me to get that sample pack I’ve been putting off for too long. If I won, I would select Initio Paragon as I’ve heard it is wonderful. I’m in the USA.

  • Ah, the final list. My thanks to Olya and Steven for your stunning compilations. Steven chose a few I have been curious about, sych as Apex, To My Father, and Paragon. He also listed Gatsby 22 from Ormonde Jayne, which I had not heard of until now. I love everything I’ve tried from them so far – very classy, elegant stuff. Will have to get a sample of Gatsby for sure. Olya also listed several popular choices that I’m dying to try. Frustration, Purple Suede, and Ambre Chromatique are on my ever-growing list of “must-try” fragrances. If I had the honor of winning, I would go with Initio Parfums Prives Paragon. Reading from North Carolina, USA.

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

I am Greek so I loved hearing about a Greek brand. I would love to try that. I’d really like to win the initio though. I live in Indian.

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

I am Greek so I loved hearing about a Greek brand. Astonishing longevity is something that excites me about a brand.. I would love to try that. I’d really like to win the initio though. I live in Indiana.

  • Wow I’m learning more and more about niche fragrances (first year knowing it’s an entire fragrance community and I’m here for it). I loved the descriptions given from the above list, honestly I’ve only heard of one house mentioned since I’m fairly new to niche fragrances. I love that the fragrances range from fresh to cafes to a “knight” of protection from the Faris house. With that being said my goal is to try each of these fragrances this upcoming year. I’m interested in being able to nose decipher each scent like black citrus, whiskey (in a fragrance), more of oud (which I found I love!)
My scent of choice would be the Paragon since that house I recognize and I don’t thing I ever smelled a scent of theirs that I didn’t enjoy sampling/purchasing.

Happy New Year from Alabama, USA!

  • Again an incredible list with a bunch of fragrances for me to check out. Based on citrus notes, House of Bo Rosario and KAJAL Faris is definitely one to check out. it’s interesting for me to see Initio on both of these lists and makes me even more excited to smell it judging from the bottle I assume that the quality is there. I unluckily walked past a vendor handing out samples because I didn’t know about the fragrance prior. If I were to win I would pick the bottle of Initio Parfums Prives Paragon, but honestly would love to have either bottle. From TX, USA.

  • I will put these on my list for fragrances to sample in the coming year! They sound magnificent. I would like to win the Initio. Thanks! From Ct USA.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

Both Steven and Olya provided lists of fragrances that have been of great interest to me and my wife. We currently own a few that are on the lists (e.g., Kajal Faris, Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede, Parfums Quartana Ierofante, Frapin 1270 Extreme, Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur, and Roja Apex). Most of the remainder of fragrances are on our short list to purchase this upcoming year, especially, Narcotica Dulce Diablo and Initio Parfums Prive Paragon. So naturally, my choice, if picked as the lucky winner of the draw, would be Initio Parfums Prive Paragon. I live in the US.

  • John Michael Jones says:

Haven’t tried any of these but would love to win the Initio… I live in Boston, Massachusetts.

  • I have heard a lot of praise for Akro’s Ink. I’m going to have to check out that, as well as the Akro brand in general, because I have not had the opportunity of exploring that thus far. I scratched my head with some of Steven’s choices, such as Uncut Gem by Frederic Malle and Apex by Roja Parfums. Personally, I found the first to be boring and somewhat rough in a sense (hence the name, I suppose), and the latter was fine but very overpriced for what it was. But that’s the beauty of perfume; It’s a highly individual experience.

You’ve made it somewhat easier for me with the giveaway this time around, with only 2 options and only 1 that I am actually eligible for. That would be the 100 ml bottle of KAJAL Faris. Thank you.

    Happy new year!

  • Great job with the list, Olya and Steven! I understand how daunting of a task it must have been to compile a list of 10 perfumes when the year have been filled to the brim with absolute stunners. In how many of these lists have Eau Coeur by Thomas de Monaco been mentioned? It must have been close to every single one. Sadly, I have yet been able to try that one, but it seems I’ll have to get on with it. Some other inclusions that I found noteworthy were Paragon by Initio Parfums Privés and Ambre Chromatique by Maison Crivelli. Both of them featured on my own top 10 of the year.

I would like to win the 100 ml bottle of Faris by Kajal. I am in need of an office scent that won’t offend anyone while bringing in compliments, and Faris seems to be just that.

Happy new year to everyone reading this!

    I reside in Sweden/EU.

  • Thanks to Editors, Steven and Olya, for compiling their list, and thus, finishing this year’s rendition of “Ten Best Perfumes of X”. This year has been rough, but the realm of perfume hasn’t suffered nearly enough, in fact, I’d even say that it has blossomed. Both new perfumes and houses to release them have risen throughout 2022. I hope 2023 can continue on where 2022 left off (in terms of perfume, of course). Well, back to the lists; I couldn’t have done it any better. Something I appreciate with this final list in particular is that they are quite unique compared to the ones compiled by the other editors. Again, great job, Steven and Olya.

I would like to win the bottle of Faris by Kajal Perfumes. That seems to be the one that I would like the most. Thank you for this giveaway, and have a Happy New Year!

    I live in Sweden.

  • Thank you for the work you are doing with these best-of 2022 lists! I can only imagine what a hard job is to pinpoint such a small number of perfumes, when there is plenty to choose from. To the joy of myself, fragcom, and I bet the people at Cafleurebon; 2022 was a year that saw the launch of many fragrances, and new houses to create them. Olya and Steven, you both chose Paragon my Initio Parfums Privés, and I am inclined to agree with that. To me, it is such a meditative, feel-good fragrance that always puts a smile on my face.

From the amazing list of perfumed prizes, I am quite curious about Kajal Faris. Their offerings have so far pleased me, so I hope Faris continues that trend.

I wish everyone reading this a Happy New Year! May fortune, happiness and success come to you all.

    Writing from the EU.

  • I love Olya and her reviews. Akro ink and Atelier der Ors Pink me up with the champagne note. Etat Libre’s Frustration for the best gourmand. Purple Suede for tge leather/civet/lavender combo. Ambre Chromatique is probably the one I will rush to try now because of the floral/amberish/sparkling notes.

Steven’s list is also good to have to prioritize what I will try next year. Faris with apple/lavender/jasmin/amber seems like a good masculine intro. Dulce Diablo is a gourmand dream as I heard. I tried frapin 1270 so 1270 extreme with more tonka and pineapple seems like it’s the one to get. Gatsby 22 with it’s orange blossom is also something I would love to try.

USA and would love to try Faris or Paragon. Thank you for your time and the giveaway

  • Natalia Alaimo says:

Happy New Year Cafleurebon! Wishing you wonderful 2023!
Lovely choices from Olya and Steven! Some of this fragrances I already have and really appreciate them, one of them missing- its Paragon Initio Parfums, that will be my choice from the list. Greetings from Florida

  • Great picks by Olya and Steven I was particularly intrigued by Dulce Diablo Narcotico and État Libre d’orange Frustration. If I am lucky to win I would love to win Kajal Faris. Thanks a million from the UK

  • Impressive list by Olya and Steven I was really curious about Etat libre d’orange frustration and Roja Dove Apex. If I am successful I would like to win Kajal Faris. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

  • I’m so excited to try the Frapin 1270 Extreme. In the US we are missing Atelier Cologne/Jerome Epinette and I appreciate finding his work in any way I can! Plus what a classic!
Thé Eau Couer magnolia note was astounding!
The Ambers in this list by Crivelli and Misenzir and Dusita etc has been such a great year!! Oh and Kajal’s Almaz which I’ve loved.
So many great offerings to try. Thank you for all your great work this year in helping us to stay in the loop and for the giveaways.
I would love to be the winner of Paragon if possible. In USA.

  • I loved how varied Olya and Steven’s selections were. From aromatic and citrusy, to sparkly and fresh, to deep boozy and enveloping, there is something for each season and occasion. I also noticed they both mentioned Paragon! (And some other CFB editors too, so I guess that means I have to sample it).
I would choose Kajal Faris, should I win. A protective barrier of freshness and crispness is what I need.
    From the EU.

  • I admit I am at least a bit impartial when it comes to Olya and Steven. Since I follow them on social media platforms and enjoy their content greatly I might be a little more influenced by their choices. 🙂
I adore Olya’s style of writing so after reading the reviews I would like to try all 10 (11) fragrances, but if I try to narrow it down my pick would be:
    – Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up – I love cocktails of fruits and flowers with fizzy touch, but Olya’s characterization as a fragrance to celebrate life has sold it at the end.
    – ETDO Frustration – I love the house ETDO and gourmands
    – House of Bo Rosario – after reading Olya’s review: mmmmmmmmmm
    – Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum – the staple on the top 10 lists of 2022
    – Mizensir Ambre Magique – also my heart has been captured by Alberto Morillas 

Steven is my favorite video reviewer, so again I would love to try all the fragrances. But after more consideration my picks would be:
    – Kajal Faris – combining freshness and brightness as an armor
    – Frederic Malle Uncut Gem – it seems to be must try for me
    – Frapin 1270 Extreme – already in love with the original

Thank you again, Olya and Steven, for the incredible content, and wish you all the best in 2023.
If I am lucky enough, I would be happy to win Kajal Faris.

    Greeting from Slovenia (EU).

  • I loved Stevens review and his selections. They all sound very interesting and good choices! I’ve gotten my nose on the Initio and see why it made this list! It’s definitely one I’d love to own one day for sure! Something about it just gave me the “I have to have this” vibes. Roja interests me too in a way by the note breakdown so that would be nice to see how that is. As far as which ones I’d like to have a chance to win would definitely be the Initio with the Roja in second. Much love from PA USA!

  • There so many beautiful descriptions which made me to order samples.
I am intrigued by Apex, because love Roja, Paragon which sounds very promising!
    Happy New year to all!
Thanks Cafleurebon and Michelyn for past year’ s beautiful articles and giveaways!!
    Would like to win Paragon!
    US

  • Hello I would like to try Dulce Diablo from Narcotica for its notes that are incredible, it is a sweet gourmand with cognac. A beautiful and original bottle, I already like perfumes like this. I would like to try it. I’m from USA New Jersey

  • Closing this amazing section of Top Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 are the ones and onlys Olya and Steven aka Redolessence.
I have to say that I am a huge fan from both, I dont miss any review by Olya and Steven.
I love their selection because I learn more from their personal favorites and give me a hint to choose from new fragrances.
I love that Olya added Teo Cabanel Encore and Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique.
From Steven I can outstand Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 and Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father. I had the pleasure to try them 4 and I felt instantly in love with them. I really need to try the rest.
I would love to win Initio Parfums Prives Paragon but any of them would be great.
    USA here.

  • Another amazing list full of perfumes I need to try! The only one I’ve smelled so far is Ierofante, which definitely belongs on here as a really unique and wearable take on gasoline and leather. Based on Olya’s review, Akro Ink is also now high on my sampling list. However, the highest on the list is still Initio Paragon, which I’ve been dying to try ever since I read about it here. I’m a sucker for plum notes and the combination with palo santo sounds so different. Paragon would be my choice if I’m lucky enough to win. I’m in MN, USA.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

My fvorite from this top is Dusita is feminine, miterios and elegant. I love Dusit parfums!
Kajal Faris is my choice and I like to win it. I am from EU

  • Happy New Year Cafleurebon, from your Happy Pastry Chef
2022 has been more than busy for the fragrance industry, and successful, so many good fragrances to buy
☆ Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp): One cannot deny the genius of Olivier Cresp’s work
No doubt about it, I like Awake , Ink is…ink inspired
☆Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne):
As a Pastry Chef PINK ME UP makes me think of making one of our most popular wedding cake, White Champagne Cake , with Natural Butter Cream, real Rose Water and fresh Blackberries
☆Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui):
Only Etat Libre D’Orange could name a fragrance “Frustration” LOL
Frustration was inspired by Mont Blanc dessert. Most people know it as French dessert, but according to most historical sources it was actually created in Italy.
In the Culinary world Mont Blanc for many years was considered part of a long gone Culinary era , like it’s almost old-school.
Of course the fragrance Frustration made me think of making Mont Blanc, living in Paris and trying to fulfill my dreams of becoming a Pastry Chef. Good times
☆Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):
Quality earthy patchouli, lavender and amber coming from Australia.
☆ House of Bo Rosario (Olivier Cresp):
“Rosario was based on the childhood memories of Bernardo Moller, savoring the spicy sweet dessert of pomegranate with chili peppers and lemon sorbet after school in his native Mexico.”
I live , and breathe desserts , and I’m always looking for new recipes to experiment, I know Thai , Indian and Palestinian desserts with Pomegranate and chilly peppers, but not Mexican, it would’ve been nice if Olya mentioned the name of the dessert , unless it’s Chiles en Nogada??? I’ll do some research . The fragrance is intriguing to me.
    ☆ INITIO Parfums Paragon:
Paragon makes me think of making, and later on eating Japanese Ume Cake , drinking bergamot juice, while sitting on a wooden bench somewhere in Japanese countryside, with some lavender scent also detectable in the air.
☆ Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch):
Olya’s take in Ambre Chromatique made me think of making Boozy Peach Cobbler , and later on eating it on a jungle trip
☆Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani):
“A cup of aromatic coffee, the aroma of freshly baked goods mingling with a soft whiff of a cigar someone is enjoying nearby. ”
    First Parfums Dusita gourmand
    ☆Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer):
Keep baking , it’s therapeutic for most, for me too , it’s not just a job. Eating Carrot Cake, preferably with pecans and ginger, while sitting next to iris field is what I’m thinking right now.
☆Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann):
I wad expecting to be good, but not quite heartstring ,like most Cafleurebon contributors think
☆Honorable mention: Mizensir Ambre Magique (Alberto Morillas):
Olya’s take Ambre Magique made me think of
    Cardamom Tarts with Caramelized Mandarins

Yes a lot of new iconic fragrances came up in 2022

    INITIO Parfums Paragon: (Perfumer Undisclosed)
Paragon makes me think of making, and later on eating Japanese Ume Cake , drinking bergamot juice, while sitting on a wooden bench somewhere in Japanese countryside, with some lavender scent also detectable in the air.
☆ Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti):
There are quite a few Kajal fragrances i like, and two that I love , Dahab and Lamar.
Faris to me is different than Dahab , and Lamar, upscale , polished around the edges fragrance i can wear on more dressed up occasions.
☆ Narcotica Dulce Diablo (Claude Dir)
    I’m so excited, and I can’t hide it….
☆ Frederic Malle Uncut Gem (Maurice Roucel):
    I don’t know about Uncut Gem…
☆ Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
    Classy and modern
☆ Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette):
1270 is good, but 1697 in my opinion is slightly better , smells like Spiced Rum Fruit Cake , candied rose is also present. I was not aware 1270 Extreme was a thing
☆Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father (Bertrand Duchaufour):
I do know one Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrance called Mango Skin, just a sample but still. Love the smell, and taste of mango. It’s one of the best ripe mango fragrances on the market. It also smells quite natural .
    To My Father I’ll sample
☆ Parfums Quartana Ierofante (Luca Maffei):
No suede leather and gasoline for me
☆ Manos Gerakinis Methexis (Chris Maurice):
Steven take on Methexis made me think of
Chocolate Ganache Cake with honeyed Figs . Sounds great
    ☆ Widian Baniyas (Jordi Fernandez):
    Lavender and vanilla cookies
☆Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 (Linda Pilkington):
I’m nowhere near “Oxford man” , I rarely wear suits, Gatsby 22 is for the rare occasions I di dress up.
I’ll be happy to win Kajal Faris
Appreciate Olya’s and Steven hard work, and the giveaway campaign
    USA

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

So many perfumes, so little time, and yet, Olya and Steven’s jobs it seems to be more easy than ours – they have way more chances to smell it all.
I’d like to test all of them [mkay, maybe not the gourmands] but win Faris [Living in Europe].

  • Read this descriptions with big pleasure!
Have read so do many beautiful reviews about Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire and as Pussara creations lover – I want to test this one especially !
    Paragon sounds very gorgeous!
I would like to win Paragon !
    from USA

  • I have always loved the smell of ink and would love to try Akro Ink: nice to see it on the list! I’m also VERY intrigued by the Teo Cabanal carrot fragrance!
If I win the draw, I’d choose the Initio Prive Paragon because the combination of sage and plum sounds so lovely. Thanks again for these lists and these wonderful giveaways!
    I’m in WV, USA

  • Great picks in this one too! I own Ierofante and it is one of my favorite if not my number one discovery of 2022. I also got Two Cabanel Encore and it is a great new release too. Interestingly I did not try any of the other ones in both of the lists. The one that intrigues me the most is Initio’s Paragon because of its meditative nature and palo Santo and labdanum in it. I would love to win Paragon. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Very cool that initio parfums made both lists and Karl too
    Not familiar with Quartana
FARIS s really what I would love as Lamar from the kajal house is really wonderful
    Happy 2023

  • Thank you for another Stellar list. I got excited seeing Initio Parfums Prives Paragon picked by multiple editors/contributors (both Steve and Olya in this instance and I believe one or two others on other year-ender lists) and to also be part of this giveaway. I’ve adored side effect and Rehab from Initio so really looking forward to trying Paragon out. I also love cardamom in fragrances and thus Olya’s honorable mention also caught my attention with the mention of cardamom. If lucky to win, I’d pick Paragon and I’m in USA. Thank you for all the opportunities and Happy New Year everyone 🙂

  • Lots of fragrances on these lists I’ve bookmarked to sample. It’s interesting to see which perfumes made multiple top ten lists. I see ELdO Frustration, Thomas de Monaco Eau Coeur and Initio Parfums Paragon to name a few. I would love to win either Initio Parfums Prive Paragon or KAJAL Faris. MD, USA.

  • Taleofarose says:

Olya’s list brings a lot of new names for me, and with the exception of Crivelli’s Amber I have not tried any of them. It leaves me curious.

Thanks for your generous gift, if I were to win I’d chose KAJAL Faris. I live in Portugal.

  • Thanks for this amazing list and all the other that preceded it. Lots and lots of exquisite perfumes to note down and try to hunt for testing.
From the prizes list I qualify only for Kajal as I live in Europe, so Faris would be my default choice.
    Thanks and Happy New Year!

  • Thanks for your pics Olya and Steven! As Olya points out in the introduction, the sustainability plays a mayor role each year and I agree 100% with her choice of Ink by Akro : the great Olivier Cresp co-owner of the brand gives us an amazing metallic, cool and earthy scent even I am so afraid of tattoos. Mr. Cresp is twice in Olya´s list with House of Bo Rosario that brings us a crisp citrus gourmand. Her choice of the legendary Alberto Morillas as an honorable mention reminds us in his new perfume the ability of concentrate the magic of a thousand scents he created. First of all, Thank Steven for your creative vision with Navitus: Lyrik and Empyreal are so good!.You agree with Olya in choosing Initio Parfums Paragon, a comforting and calming scent with a beautiful Palo Santo note. I love you chose Ierofante by Luca Maffei for Quartana, an astonishing leathery rubbery that lands in a comforting almondy moon. I live in Spain and I would choose Kajal Faris.

  • Frustration peaked my interest, with its rum and chestnut notes. The white sage, lavender and pepper in Paragon sounds great. I do enjoy Incensum from Mizensir, and will look into more from this brand. I love 1270 and must try the Extreme version. Thanks for your reviews Steven and Olya. If lucky, I’d choose Paragon or Faris. Mich USA

  • Frustration peaked my interest, with its rum, and chestnut notes. The white sage, lavender and pepper in Paragon sounds great. I do enjoy Incensum from Mizensir and need to try more from them. I love 1270 and need to try the Extreme version. Dulce Diablo is on my wishlist- sounds delicious. Thanks Steven and Olya for your thoughts. If lucky, I’d choose Paragon or Faris. Mich USA

  • I realize after all these lists that I did not get my nose on nearly enough fragrances. I did go out to test White Whale after reading the lists and it is stunning. So I am starting to catch up a little. I am most interested in Dulce Diablo from these 2 lists. Methexis has my interest, I don’t have any fragrances from Greece. I would most love to win Faris!! Thanks for all the wonderful recommendations. USA.

  • I have enjoyed reading the reviews of the perfumes in these lists by Olya Bar and Steven, along with the lists published before. I can’t buy all of them, but it’s great to have this online library of sorts to review it when the itch appears, and to read again and decide what to buy. Because olfactory tastes are different, there are not many matches, but when there are, it’s a good sign the perfume is a good one. It’s so nice to see many perfumers using sustainable, natural products and committing to reduced packaging. As far as my choice for the draw, were I to win it, I would choose Paragon, as it has oud in it, one of my favorite notes, and also because it was in both the lists curated by Olya Bar and Steven. Thanks for the generous draws and reviews. Happy New Year!!

  • These favorite lists are very informative because they help narrow down the perfumes for me to try. many of the highlighted perfumes I heard about in passing during the year like Akro Ink, Ambree Chromatique, Uncut Gem and purple Suede (Goldfield & Banks). I appreciate being introduced to perfumes I have never heard of like Rosario (House of Bo), La Rhapsodie Noire (Parfums Dusita) or Faris (Kajal). Steven and Olya, thank you for putting this list together.
    I live in Maryland, US.
If I win, I will like the 90ml of Prives Paragon (Initio Parfums)

  • And again, Thomas de Monaco on the list. It must be something really special than. I’m going to the perfume shop to test it as soon as I get over my cold. From second selection I am really interested in „To My Father” mainly because of its name and considering it as a future gift to… guess who.

I live in Poland and I would like to win KAJAL

  • Steven & Olya!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Love your lists!!! Good for you! Don’t listen to nay-sayers! Like what you like! ❤️
I think your picks are fantastic (including a recent FM release that is polarizing).
I’d be so happy to win any bottles! Happy New Year!!! ❤️❤️❤️ USA

  • From the entire time team of ÇaFleureBon may 2023 being you and your loved one all you desire and everything you need.

Thank you Michelyn , but not just for the whole 2023 , but for all my years on Cafleurebon. Ever since I subscribed, late Summer, early Fall of 2018 ,I enjoyed every single review, even if I’m not on the same page with the reviewer. I’d like to thank every single reviewer of Cafleurebon crew , current and present , for the whole experience.
Keep up the good work , and don’t change, we love you the way you do.
I’ll partially reverse what I just said, the only thing I’d like to see differently on Cafleurebon, is the addition of “Edit” button, it will change the whole experience for all subscribers, all for the better. If at one point is technically possible, please make it happen.

Now I’ll share my thoughts on the fragrances I know, or want to try, and compare my thoughts with what Olya and Steven are getting.

    Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp):
    Too Inky for me

Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne):
I’m a strict teetotaller, and I don’t drink (don’t smoke or do drugs) , but i like Atelier des Ors, and vibrant, pool party fragrances

Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui):
Great fragrance, with a bold name.Warm chestnuts, incense , a festive journey that could warm you up from inside.

Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):
Purple Suede to me is well blended, and very smooth , but also complex suede leather fragrance. I do clearly smell hefty dose of lakritz, and some mild sweetness.I also perceive mint , and gentle, savory spices, most likely cardamom.

I guess Olya perceives non of the above.

In the base I get chopped tobacco, and to me the scent becomes more warm, woody and earthy.

House of Bo Rosario (Olivier Cresp):
Olivier Cresp I know, but not House of Bo Rosario

    INITIO Parfums Paragon:
Fresh-fruity , woody and musky fragrance.

Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch):
“Maison Crivelli is one of the most exciting brands to enter the niche arena in the past few years”
I agree , spicy, heavy on the incense, slightly green, with lots of resins kind of amber. To me the vanilla is barely there, booziness i don’t get.

Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani):
Gourmand of a highest quality, for those who don’t like gourmands to be dripping sweet

    Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer):
Encore is right up my alley , pleasant welcoming fragrance. Powdery , floral with nice nutty sweetness .Imo is more suited for the Spring , than for freezing weather we have to deal with at the moment.

Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann):
    Love from the whole Cafleurebon

Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 Honorable mention: Mizensir Ambre Magique (Alberto Morillas)
Sounds good, olfactory sensation by the master perfumer.

Many brands released iconic fragrances that seemed to receive much praise

I do agree, the amount of new fragrances in 2022 was unreal. A few of the fragrances mentioned by the Cafleurebon crew would definitely become iconic , L’Eau des Immortels, Majnoon and Killer Vavoom, Eau Coeur and especially Royal Tobacco.

    INITIO Parfums Paragon:
Fresh-fruity , woody and musky fragrance.
I only wonder why Steven never mentioned lavender , even as supporting note , I get lavender from the opening, the heart , base….

Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti):

“Faris is a word that translates to “knight” ”

Not exactly , there could very well be a wider meaning in modern day Arabic , I get that , but also Ancient History diploma is on my wall right next to me , and I can tell fāris means a horsemen, not a knight , since faras is a horse.
A knight has to be a horsemen, but not every horsemen is a knight !
To oversimplify , every fāris and a knight had to do go through a long training, and to be sufficient in warfare on horses , and to follow in a way similar chivalric code , but a knight for the most part had to be born of nobility – traditionally sons of knights or lords , but fāris were either free men , or slave soldiers, or mercenaries….
    Back to the original topic
Kajal is getting more and more traction last few years, but still I believe is underrated house , more people need to know their fragrances . I’ve smelled or sampled all
If I have to rate my favorite ones
    1.Lamar
    2.Dahab
    3.Kajal Homme/Faris
Faris I think is classically structured woody aromatic, with some modern touches implemented into the composition

    Narcotica Dulce Diablo (Claude Dir):
    Gourmand lovers dream

Frederic Malle Uncut Gem (Maurice Roucel):
I do not agree, Uncut Gem is not bad…for a designer fragrance, and way overpriced for something coming out of premium brand like Frédéric Malle

    Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
EDP of Parfum?? The two versions are not quite the same . Modernized vintage composition

    Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette):

“the Extreme version of this fragrance amplifies everything in a delectable way.”

Not to me , side by side, there’s quite a lot of differences between the two, the Extreme is not just amplified version of the original. The fruits are different, more fresher in the Extreme, and more candy like in the original. The booziness i believe is toned down in the Extreme…

Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father (Bertrand Duchaufour):
All should get some samples, and try Vilhelm Parfumerie, they have quite a few gems , one of the most underrated niche brands in my opinion.
Poets of Berlin , Chicago High i love

    Parfums Quartana Ierofante (Luca Maffei):
Upscale and more polished Dior Fahrenheit,if you like the strong, according to some masculine petroleum note in Fahrenheit
    ,you’ll enjoy lerofante too

    Manos Gerakinis Methexis (Chris Maurice):
    Must try fragrance

    Widian Baniyas (Jordi Fernandez):
Another one I need to try

Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 (Linda Pilkington):
Posh , dressed up occasions fragrance

I’d like to win Faris by Kajal
    All 3 profiles I already follow , @waltherp99bg
    Thanks a lot
    USA

  • I’m just getting into fragrances and I love love to learn about new houses and there are so many we can’t try them all!!!! Initio is an amazing house!
Great picks!!!! They all sounds amazing!!!! I’m from Massachusetts, US.

  • I am in the US and I would love to win Initio Prives Paragon. I do not see a lot of plum notes in fragrances, and it sounds quite interesting

  • Thanks for all these wonderful lists and also for all the work over the year! Cannot wait to see what this new year will bring!
I am in EU and I choose KAJAL. Thanks!

  • I don’t know what to say about the choices, because I only tried the Maison Crivelli one and it was fine, but not my favorite amber.
Ierofante is probably the one I would like to try most from the ones mentioned.
I would like to win Kajal Faris and I live in the EU.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

The way that Olya and Steven breakdown their favorite fragrances of 2022 is impressive. They really give you a try, vivid picture of what the scent profiles are and the mind-state that the fragrances put them in. My interest in offerings such as Frustration, Dulce Diablo, and Apex have been heightened because of their excellent narratives. As for the giveaway opportunity, I would like to have Paragon in my collection as I do enjoy plum in scents. Thanks for the generosity and many blessings from Va, USA!

  • Thanks for sharing your favourite fragrances in 2022 Olya and Steven!

I have ordered some samples from Teo Cabenel and Encore is one of them. I love Iris fragrances and Olya’s description of a buttery smooth Iris note that brings the necessary depth and amplifies the overall sensation is exactly the reason why I want to try it. Excellent choice!

I’m very excited to try Steven’s recommendations. There are many listed that I didn’t know about like Widian Baniyas and Parfums Quartana Ierofante. The fragrance I look forward to trying the most from his list is Manos Gerakinis Methexis. I love a green juicy Fig note in my fragrances and a combination of Cacao and Honey sounds both fascinating and delicious!

I would love to win KAJAL Faris!
    Greetings from the UK.

  • Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp):
Ideas , emotions in one big tattoo

Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne):
My body is not so young anymore, but my soul still is, and PINK ME is right up my alley.
I’m always ready for a party , spicy , deep and rich honeyed fragrances

Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui) , such a daring name to begin with. Cinnamon, chestnuts, vanilla and a bit of rum , I’m excited

Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):
Adventure with leather saddle, horses, patchouli and amber

House of Bo Rosario (Olivier Cresp):
Chilly peppers and pomegranate Mexican dessert

    INITIO Parfums Paragon:
Modern, multifaceted fragrance today , with high compliment factor
Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch):

I’m a fan of Quentin Bisch, and I know and own quite a few of his fragrances, both designer , and niche.I have to say I’m now own Hibiscus Mahajad, Olya Bar review was so striking, I had no choice , but to buy the sample pack first.
Ambre Chromatique is green, smoky and fruity.

Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani):

Moonlight In Chiangmai and Issara in my opinion are the best Parfums Dusita perfumes , La Rhapsodie Noire is sweeter, and more inviting

    Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer):
Encore festive and cozy, the iris , vanilla and tea are drawing my attention.

Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann):
    Must try

Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 Honorable mention: Mizensir Ambre Magique
    Luminous amber

    Xx Steven

Initio Parfums Privés Paragon (Perfumer Undisclosed):
With Paragon I’ll get a lot of positive attention, smelling amazing. The citruses, the incense, palo santo and the plum are all so appealing to me.

Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti):
I’m a fan of Kajal Homme and Homme II , Faris is still keeping the same posh

    Narcotica Dulce Diablo (Claude Dir):
    Potential compliment getter

Frederic Malle Uncut Gem (Maurice Roucel):
Uncut Gem was not exactly loved by Michelyn and Ermano , but Steven obviously likes it a lot

    Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
I own Vetiver Pour Homme , Parfum Cologne , Creation-E , Apex is next in line to try

    Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette):
    Date time fragrance

Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father (Bertrand Duchaufour):

Fragrances in the same ballpark as To My Father i really appreciate.

    Parfums Quartana Ierofante (Luca Maffei):
    Leather and gasoline

    Widian Baniyas (Jordi Fernandez):
    Class

Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 (Linda Pilkington):
    Versatile all year round vetiver

Kajal Homme, and Homme II are in my possession, and I’ll be happy to win Faris
    Exciting giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • What I have seen is that the year 2022 was the year of fruity, and gourmand-based fragrances, with some other typical fragrances. Both the reviewers choices are impressive but to my taste, my picks are ELDO Frustration, Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede, House of Bo Rosario, Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique, Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire, Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur, Parfums Quartana Ierofante, and Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father.
I was waiting for Dana Sandu’s choices, maybe for the year 2023.
Happy New Year to Cafleurbon Team and the followers.
    Love from Pakistan.

  • Dproductive1 says:

Paragon on both lists says something. It speaks to the quality and perhaps to the unisex appeal as well. If had to choose between the 2 lists, I’d lean towards Stevens , but both are stellar. The Kajal was the deal closer. The Mizensir Olya mentioned has me curios though. How can you not want to know more about a fragrance described as “ a kaleidoscope of olfactory sensations “? I live in Philadelphia…should I win, I’d like Paragon.

  • These best of lists have been a pleasure to read. Thank you for the extensive coverage and detailed thoughts about all these nominations. Olya and Steven both included some fragrances that weren’t in the earlier posts, including the lavender-fronted Purple Suede, Ambre Chromatique, To My Father, and Parfums Quartana Ierofante. Sadly, I haven’t tried any of these, but I learned a lot and have lots of samples to try down the line.

I’m in the midwest, USA. I’d love to win the 90 ml bottle of Initio Parfums Prives Paragon. Thanks!

I loved Olya and Steven’s choices for the 10 best perfumes of 2022. Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father sounds like an amazing and classy tobacco fragrance. I also enjoy my boozy fragrances so Frapin 1270 Extreme sounds very appealing to me. Being a gourmand lover I have been also wanting to try Manos Gerakinis Methexis. I’ve tried Roja Parfums Apex and Narcotica Parfums Dulce Diablo which are 2 of my favorite discoveries of 2022. Two other 2022 fragrances I’ve been wanting to try are Kajal Perfumes Faris and Initio Perfumes Paragon. I own Faris’s counterpart Almaz which I love and I am truly fascinated with Paragon which highlights Palo Santo. I am from the USA. If I win I would love Initio Parfums Paragon.

  • Another wonderful list of fragrances, Thank You! It is wonderful to see so many gems that are well known to me.
In Olya’s list I found some fragrances by perfumers that I highly respect and adore their creations. For example Olivier Cresp with his Ink by Akro – this fragrance turns magical on the skin. Also, ELDO Frustration is one of the finest gourmand scents that I discovered recently.
In Steven’s list I am happy to see some most beautiful and refined masculine fragrances of the year: Roja Apex, EDPFM Uncut Gem, Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father. All of them have different vibes of freshness, but remain timeless and classy. And, of course, Initio Paragon is star of the show – simply amazing, I don’t have anything to add.
I would like to win KAJAL Faris.
    I live in Lithuania, EU.

  • IvanVelikov says:

    -Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp):
I like Awake, it’s a refined gentlemen in a suit. Ink is more like a buffed up rebel with tattoos all over him , with skinny jeans, and Doc Martens boots
-Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne):
Atelier des Ors to me also equals Lune Feline .
Unlike Lune Feline, PINK ME champagne, rose and iris mixture is more party like, but it doesn’t smell childish. I can wear it from holidays on the French Riviera, to working with clients at the shop, to weddings.
-Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui):
I’d never had the courage to name a fragrance “Frustration” , but I love the warm , rusty and slightly sweet undertones of Frustration , the perfect Fall fragrance .
-Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):
I’m not sure if Australia is really rough and gritty place , tropical paradise, or something in between, but I can tell it’s a beautiful country with perfume ingredients you can’t find anywhere else.
Purple Suede is a really classy, suede leather-aromatic affair I’d wear with a Navy Blue pinstripe suit , preferably with Zegna fabrics , and made by me.
-House of Bo Rosario (Olivier Cresp):
The contrast between spicy , and fruity sweet is so interesting
    -INITIO Parfums Paragon:
Paragon is right up my alley kind of fragrance, not overly aggressive, cozy , woody, slightly sweet, with really round up characteristics.
-Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch):
Jungle amber with boozy vanilla, and made by Quentin Bisch?
-Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani):
Erawan is full of the joy and amity fragrances , La Rhapsodie Noire do have the same vibe, it’s just more gourmandish. I know the result of Pissara work is just magical , I’ll find a sample
    -Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer):
Sweet without being sticky , floral without being indolic , playful without being lustful, Encore is perfectly balanced, happy baking fragrance.
-Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann):
Eau Coeur is one on most hyped fragrances on Cafleurebon
-Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 Honorable mention: Mizensir Ambre Magique
    Luminous and sensuality together

    xxxxxx

-Initio Parfums Privés Paragon (Perfumer Undisclosed):
Paragon is right up my alley kind of fragrance, not overly aggressive, cozy , woody, slightly sweet, with really round up characteristics.
-Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti):
    I know the fragrance.
I’m in tailoring business, and Faris is very classy, very refined, very gentlemanly fragrance, with some playful sweetness in the base.I tend to believe Faris will suit me well. The bottle looks great as usual
    -Narcotica Dulce Diablo (Claude Dir)
Narcotica fragrances are praised by a lot of YouTube-ers , I’d like to see a full Dulce Diablo review on Cafleurebon
-Frederic Malle Uncut Gem (Maurice Roucel):
I’m actually curious about the fragrance
    -Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
Roja Dove sure knows his job , no wonder almost all fragrance enthusiasts puts him on such pedestal
    -Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette):
Long time ago I had L’Humaniste , fresh , and fun to wear mix of citrus, spices and lots of gin. 1270 Extreme Is boozy too , but warmer and sweeter
-Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father (Bertrand Duchaufour):
    Dressed up occasions fragrance
    -Parfums Quartana Ierofante (Luca Maffei):
The gasoline accord is appealing, if it’s not too strong.
    -Manos Gerakinis Methexis (Chris Maurice)
Sparkling river filled with milky sweet fruits
    -Widian Baniyas (Jordi Fernandez):
    Professional settings fragrance
-Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 (Linda Pilkington):
Gatsby 22 I’m sure is…. everything you don’t expect it to be .Zingy freshness from Ormonde Jayne
    KAJAL Faris would be great
Thank you Michelyn , Olya, Steven , and all the brands
    USA

  • How sad, the completion of these lists. They always give me so many things I want to try. Pink Me Up is now on my try list. I would love to win Initio Parfums Prives Paragon. The notes of palo santo and plum sound like a very zen way to roll into the new year! Thanks for all these great suggestions of perfumes to try. I find I’ve tried almost none of them as the year closes. I’m in the USA

  • Regis Monkton says:

Olya and Steven mentioned a lot of new fragrance releases which I heard a lot of praise about, and I’m interested in trying all of them, especially the ones from Roja Parfums, Vilhelm Parfumerie, Narcotica, Parfums Dusita, and Mizensir. I appreciate hearing Olya and Steven’s take on these fragrances. I’d like to win a bottle of KAJAL “Faris”. I live in the U.S.A.

  • As a whole what impresses me in the most from Olya and Steven picks

    Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp):
As much as I love Awake, Akro turns into animalic bomb on my skin

Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne):
Olya in my online party , and liquor lover soulmate
Sangria of Champagne and Red Fruits type of fragrance.

Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui):
I love the name! Frustration is fascinating and alluring scent. The roasted chestnuts and the Cognac i find beyond addictive as aromas.
“As Etienne de Swardt says,” And Frustration is what we need, my friend.” ”
Etat Libre d’Orange are famous with (sometimes a lot….) quirky fragrances, I do believe Frustration is no exception.

Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):
I do like the fact Dimitri Weber is using a lot of local ingredients , often for the first time, which makes him a pioneer in the fragrance community.
Like most, my first touch with Goldfield & Banks fragrances was with the famous Pacific Rock Moss .Purple Suede is mostly colder, windy and rainy weather leather fragrance, both aromatic and someting sligtly sweet.

House of Bo Rosario (Olivier Cresp):
The whole collection is interesting to me

    INITIO Parfums Paragon:
Paragon shares some similarities with the other two Hedonist fragrances,Rehab is one of my husband’s favorite fragrances. I like the lavender and palo santo , i’m happy for the addition of plum , black pepper in Paragon.

Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch):
Ambre Chromatique is the only Maison Crivelli fragrance i don’t know. Iris Malikhân i had to buy

Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani):
I’ve received the sample yesterday. My favorite Dusita fragrance is Erawan , closely followed now by La Rhapsodie Noire, and then comes. Alive and cheerful fragrance

    Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer):
Encore is it’s modern , not overly sweet vanilla , iris and peach fragrance with carrot seeds all over , and it can easily put you into baking mode

Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann):
    Tons of praises

Ten Best Perfumes of 2022 Honorable mention: Mizensir Ambre Magique
    I’m not familiar with Mizensir

    Honorale mention
Milleslim Tonka is either great, or it’s overhyped, because it’s out of stock everywhere, for weeks now.

Initio Parfums Privés Paragon (Perfumer Undisclosed):
Paragon shares some similarities with the other two Hedonist fragrances,Rehab is one of my husband’s favorite fragrances. I like the lavender and palo santo , i’m happy for the addition of plum , black pepper in Paragon.

Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti):
Faris is a mixture of high end casual, and a business meetings fragrance. Fresh and clean start , citrusy, woody and I smell rose. The addition of sweetness is making it even more versatile. The bottle design is fantastic , no doubt.

    Narcotica Dulce Diablo (Claude Dir):
Booze and apricot , i’m in love

Frederic Malle Uncut Gem (Maurice Roucel):
No disrespect Steven, but Michelyn and Ermano do have a point, Frédéric Malle Uncut Gem i think was a flop , nothing more to say.

    Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
    Classic chypre

    Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette):
Frapin I’m well aware of, mostly because of the gorgeous Cognac, I’m a huge fan of the Cognac and of course the fragrances. I own both 1270 , and 1270 Extreme, it’s not just the concentration the two fragrances do not smell the same, so owning both is not redundant. There is strong grape smell in 1270 Extreme, smells like a cocktail made with 1270.

Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father (Bertrand Duchaufour):
Whiskey cocktail i need to try

    Parfums Quartana Ierofante (Luca Maffei):
Gasoline is one of my least favorite notes

    Widian Baniyas (Jordi Fernandez):
    Luxury life in Abu Dhabi

Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 (Linda Pilkington):
    What a name, Gatsby 22
The soft Mediterranean melody is echoing in my ears ,

I’d love to win Initio Parfums Paragon
Thank you for the time , and effort, and for the opportunity

    Greetings everyone

best fragrance experiences for the whole year are

Ms Varron and Ms Tomsa shared fragrance
1.Maybe it’s me ,but Initio Paragon I think is sweet fruity gourmand.
    Ms Bar
    2.Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp):
    Cold and dark
3.Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne):
Craftsmanship, such for perfection, no compromises , i admire people like Jean-Philippe Clermont .PINK ME UP is so French and happy
4.Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui)
No other brand than ELDO could come up with such a name , Frustration Lolx2
ELDO fragrances are available at Jovoy of course. Frustration smells cozy , like chestnuts , and a bit of rum in Parisian coffee shop
5.Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):
    Spicy leather with lavender
6.House of Bo Rosario (Olivier Cresp):
I’ll look for points of sale
7.Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch):
I’ve smelled the white bottle, with white label Maison Crivelli fragrances, and i bought Iris Malikhân from Galeries Lafayette Champs-Elysées , the newer red bottle fragrances I will try soon. I need to know how adventurous journey into dark forest with alcohol smells
8.Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani):
Some of Ms Umavijani fragrances I’ve smelled first ar NoseParis , and then at her own cozy boutique at 11 rue de la Sourdière in Paris
La Rhapsodie Noire is kind of sweet, and smoky
    9.Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer):
People may laugh at me , but I tried carrot cake today for the first time because of Ms Bar review. If the fragrance smells like the cake ,I’ll most likely buy it
10.Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann):
Thomas De Monaco I’ve not seen in Paris , messaged them on Instagram , and still waiting for a reply
    11.Honorable mention: Mizensir Ambre Magique
I’ll look for points of sale

    Mr Gavrielatos
12.Narcotica , Vilhelm Parfumerie , Parfums Quartana are brands i know nothing about, I’ll do some research, and look for points of sale in Paris. I’m more interested in Dulce Diablo , and To My Father
13.Widian and Ormonde Jayne are available at Jovoy, I’ll try both Baniyas and Gatsby 22 next time visiting
14.Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti):
Fresh, optimistic and very long lasting fragrance.
15.Frederic Malle Uncut Gem (Maurice Roucel):
Frédéric Malle Uncut Gem is just not worth it, 50ml bottle costs €215… NO . Why would you want to buy 50ml of Uncut Gem for €215 , when you can buy 100ml of Musc Ravageur for €245 , or 50ml of Portrait of a Lady again for €215.
    It doesn’t make sense
    16.Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
Roja is one of the best
    17.Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette):
Sweet pineapple and alcohol , smells great, available at Jovoy
18.I’m still waiting for Manos Gerakinis reply on Instagram
I’d enjoy Kajal Faris the most
Thank you, American living in Paris France

  • I’ll summarize the amount of pleasing to the eyes, and mind fragrance information , this time from Olya Bar and Steven Gavrielatos

    Akro Ink (Olivier Cresp):
    Daring fragrance
Atelier Des Ors Pink Me Up (Marie Salamagne):
I need to try PINK ME UP as soon as possible , free spirited fragrance , with champagne, rose and iris.
Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration (Mathilde Bijaoui):
    Frustration?
Etienne de Swardt is soooooo corny , in a good way of course . I have a feeling there’s a lot of depth , and passion in Frustration, cozy chestnut fragrance, with some cuddling touch
Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede (Ilias Ermenidis):
Purple Suede is very well blended , and the oud, and leather work very well together
    INITIO Parfums Paragon:
I own Oud for Greatness , considered by many the best one in Initio Parfums catalog , and I’m sure I’ll also enjoy Paragon . The first is formal occasions only fragrance , the way i wear it at least, but the Paragon relative is more versatile, and easy to wear , from day time family gatherings , playful nights, to going out with friends , or weddings . The fresh start, and fruity-spicy base , i find really tempting.
Long lasting fragrances are always welcome , and I think all Initio Parfums fall in the same category.
Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique (Quentin Bisch):
Admirations for Maison Crivelli , and Quentin Bisch for releasing Ambre Chromatique , eye-opening novelty fragrance.
Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire (Pissara Umavijani):
Who doesn’t want to visit Parisian Coffee
    Teo Cabanel Encore (Marie Schnirer):
Encore is like a mental getaway trip . Some baking, some carrots, peach and a warm Chai late can keep the Winter at bay.
Thomas De Monaco Eau Coeur Parfum (Maurus Bachmann):
    Loved by many I see

Kajal Faris (David Chieze and Urs Castelletti):
So classy, so refined, so elegant , i think I can make a statement wearing Faris. I know Joorie, because my sister in law owns it, but that’s the only Kajal scent I know. H
    Narcotica Dulce Diablo (Claude Dir):
    Delicious
    Roja Parfums Apex (Roja Dove):
Adventurous, classy ,different fragrances with its own DNA , and look , in my opinion Roja Dove
    Frapin 1270 Extreme (Jérome Epinette):
Frapin the alcohol beverage brand, and Frapin the fragrance brand are one , and the same , right? No wonder there’s brandy and cognac in 1270 Extreme
Vilhelm Parfumerie To My Father (Bertrand Duchaufour
    Party all the time perfume
If lucky I’d like to win Kajal Faris
Thanks for everything during the whole 22’, and the draw

Great choices Olya and Steven! I love Olya’s choice of Parfums Dusita La Rhapsodie Noire as Dusita is one of my favorite houses of all time and a cozy Parisian Cafe in the middle of the 1920s sounds perfect. And while I have not tried Mizensir Ambre Magique Alberto Morillas is one of my favorite perfumers so I’m very excited to try it. And I’m very intrigued by Steven’s selection of Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22 as it sounds like it embodies the perfect old-fashioned gentleman. I love old fashioned and elegant fragrances and Steven makes this one sound like a real winner.

I live in the US. I would be thrilled to win either of these but my first choice would be Initio Parfums Prives Paragon and my 2nd Kajal Faris.
