Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines, Eris Parfums Belle De Jour and Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite + 3 independent perfumes you should be wearing giveaway

hree independent perfumes Sous Le Manteau Paris Vapeurs Diablotines, Eris Parfums Belle De Jour and Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite

Karl’s three independent perfumes: Sous Le Manteau Paris Vapeurs Diablotines, Eris Parfums Belle De Jour and Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite Mashup with UnSplash by Karl.

What truly makes a fragrance special and how does it drive deep into our consciousness whilst others merely skirt around periphery? This is a question I have asked myself many times. My opinion is that there are three qualities which can be attributed to such scents. One, they hold mystery. Two, they create intrigue. Three, they are not sold everywhere. Independent perfumes or artistic perfumes (since the word niche is thrown about too often these days) are private invitations into the exclusive non-commercial world of perfumery where scent is art. In this article I present to you three independent perfumes which ‘feel’ truly special. Each is independently owned, has a distinct signature, and all are created by independent master perfumers.

Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs DIablotines review

Sous Le Manteau Paris Vapeurs Diablotines by Karl (Sous Le Manteau is a US Fragrance Foundation Finalist 2022 and the UK Best Newcomer in 2020

Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines (Nathalie Feisthauer) 2016: this fiery, sultry juxtaposes sparkling notes atop a sultry amber glaze. Launched in 2016 under the creative direction of Olivia Bransbourg the nose behind this elegant and addictive fragrance is none other than independent master perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer. The beauty of this fragrance is that it blends spices, sweet tones, and an underlying latex accord to create a unique olfactory experience. In fact, Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines was my first encounter with a truly independent perfumes, non-commercial with a back story of long-lost love potions from the 19th century. Intrigued by the brand which is shrouded in mystery the concept of wearing a fragrance which keeps its secrets ‘under the cloak’ made me curious. The sleek and colourful presentation of a tactile red flacon and intriguing motif beckoned me to explore further. Vapeurs Diablotines is stealthy and goes about its business in a low-key but daring way. It coaxes you closer with its contradictory facets of cleanliness versus animalic nuances. The welcome is an unrepentant combination of bergamot, yellow mandarin, clove, and bay, with a tinge of incense to set the mind swirling with a heart of herbaceous geranium. The depth of the perfume is a seductive and tempting affair where sweet tones of tonka, styrax, labdanum and vanilla dance with earthy, leathery ones and whisps of animalics come creeping in. Notes: bergamot oil, yellow mandarin oil, coriander oil, clove oil, bay oil, incense oil, geranium oil, cedarwood, patchouli oil, vetiver oil, musk, vanilla absolute, benzoin resin, tonka bean absolute, opoponax resin, styrax resin, cistus, Castoreum Synth (Firmenich), Animalis (Synarome)

Eris Parfums Belle du Jour review

Image of Eris Parfums Belle De Jour was an Art and Olfaction Finalist 2017 in the Independent perfumes category/photo by Karl©

Eris Parfums Belle De Jour (Antoine Lie) 2016: Barbara Herman, Author Of Scent and Subversion, Yesterday’s Perfume Blog and Creative Director for Eris Parfums enlisted master perfumer Antoine Lie to compose Eris Parfums Belle De Jour.  What most intrigued me about this scent was its contrasting elements and backstory. The idea of a scent to portray the conflicting aspects of personality, congenial stay-at-home spouse by day and high-class wild escort by night is deftly interpreted here as the themes of seemingly innocent florals clash with stealthy musk and animalics. The subversive nature of this perfume ensures that is not for the faint of heart. However, for those who love surprise and their perfumes with an edge then Belle De Jour most definitely hits the spot. The orange blossom, coriander, jasmine, seaweed combination is so out there it creates a tumult of slightly bitter florals and rubbery aspects fused with an aquatic salty thrill bedded with a creamy and sensation akin to Tracy Emin’s slightly dishevelled ‘My Bed’ where the post coital aftereffects of a lascivious night’s pleasure are on display. To bring such a scent to market is courageous and risky but Belle De Jour is both tender and powerful in equal measure and a contradiction which truly reflects modern life and the conflict between public and private personas. Notes: Moroccan Coriander, Madagascan Pink Pepper, Tunisian Orange Flower, Spanish Cistus Labdanum, Egyptian Jasmine, Indian Pimento Berry, Atlas Cedarwood, Musk (synthetic), Seaweed Absolute.

Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite review

Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite by Karl/ Nuit de Bakelite is the 2018 Winner of The Art and Olfaction Awards for independent perfumes and French Fifi Expert Award 2018 for an Independent brand

Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite (Isabelle Doyen) 2017: A collaboration between  Australian designer Naomi Goodsir, Renaud Coutadier and master perfumer Isabelle Doyen, Nuit de Bakelite was inspired by Naomi Goodsir’s love of Bakelite jewelry  and is an avant-garde expression of the tuberose flower in all its dimensions. Crunchy, vegetal, slightly bitter but creamy and voluptuous, Nuit de Bakelite harkens back to vintage perfumery but with a thoroughly modern twist. This is a head turning scent which has an otherworldly feel to it, exploding with tones of emerald heated plasticity, it turns rich and sensual with resinous notes and a soft tobacco base. This perfume redefines florals and creates a theme all of its own. Vividly green – it has been formulated around an array of raw materials with tuberose as the conductor. It is a tricky perfume to describe as it morphs chameleon-esque from slightly naïve Barbie to chain-smoking vixen. This is a perfume that purrs effortlessly then bites without warning. Notes: Angelica, Green notes, Tuberose, Artemesia, Leather, Styrax, Carrot seeds, Karo Karounde, Cardamom, Ylang-ylang.

Disclaimer: bottles of all the above perfumes kindly sent to me by the brands. My opinions however are my own.

I REALLY want to try Nuit de Bakélite Naomi Goodsir because Karl described it so intriguing: ” This is a head turning scent which has an otherworldly feel to it, exploding with tones of emerald heated plasticity, it turns rich and sensual with resinous notes and a soft tobacco base.”
    Hugs from Croatia, EU

  • The descriptions of all of these perfumes are wonderful, and I’d love to try the two I haven’t, BUT: I have sampled Nuit de Bakelite and it is a stunner. Truly. Every time I’ve worn it the experience is different. It’s subtle but demanding, it comes and goes, it’s cool then warm. I admire it so, and it would make my year to win a bottle.
    WV, USA

  • I am particularly intrigued by Nuit de Bakelite as it is inspired by vintage style but offers a modern twist on them. I am also reminded of the fact that caps of vintage perfumes were often made of bakelite. My choice is Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite. I am in US.

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

I really have been wanting to try anything at all from the brand Eris. The fact that Antoine lei did it means you can trust it. I really like the way he talked about what truly defines a great perfume. I often find myself struggling to figure everything out about my favorite perfumes. This is how I characterize those that I like vs those that I love.

  • I love Eris Mxxxx. I have only sampled it (twice now) but it’s on my to buy list, and I love Corpus Equus by Naomi Goodsir, which is also on my maybe list. I need to sample further. If I had to choose I would pick Nuit de Bakelite by Naomi Goodsir. Thanks for the draw. US.

  • How unique and beautiful the choices were intrigued me. The amazing details and how beautiful the reviews were intrigued me. I wish to win the 50 ml bottle of Nuit de Bakelite. I live in Poland, EU. I never tried Sous Le Manteau, Eris Parfums or Naomi Goodsir.

  • Karl!!! ❤️❤️❤️ YES!!! Love, Love what you have to say here! These fragrances are so special for the reasons you articulate (and gorgeous descriptions, too)! Fantastic picks!!! I’m lucky to have sampled all three and love the brilliant inclusion/highlighting of the semi-industrial landscape (latex, plasticity, edge, etc.) found within the natural world (it’s all connected, chemically). There is that fluency in all these fragrances that Karl amazingly points out! Bravo! I don’t have full bottles of any (yet) but would be so very happy with ANY of them! If I was forced to pick… maybe Nuit de Bakelite (but honestly, Any of these would be Amazing)! Thank you for the opportunity! ❤️ USA

  • This article made me want to try all three! Out of the three perfumes Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines would be my top pick. I live in Indiana.

  • Karl did a wonderful job describe in each fragrance. Sous Le Manteau has my attention. Nuit de Bakelite, Belle du jour . Thank you for this Chance USA

  • I like how Vapeurs Diablotines sounds – spices and sweet tones are right up my alley! Thank you for the draw and for the reviews!
    Europe

  • What a great article Karl.there are so many independent perfume companies but I appreciate that you chose three with independent perfumers as well!
Each really sound great so in this order
    Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakélite
    Sous le Manteau Vapeurs Diabotines
    Eris parfums belle du joiur
    USA

  • Any of these would be fabulous to win, but if I had to choose one it would be the Naomi Goodsir.
    I love a tobacco base.
    Oklahoma USA

  • Really interesting choices! Love that all 3 houses are woman run. They all sound like unique creations but the “head-turning and otherworldly,” Nuit de Bakelite by Naomi Goodsir would be my pick. In US

  • Love all three of these fabulous scents, Karl!
Belle de Jour is probably my most worn perfume since its release. It smells so good at the start… and all the way to the end.
vapeurs diablotines is fascinating, ebullient and memorable- so fun to wear.
Nuit de Bakelite’s uniqueness makes for exciting days when I wear it. It always invites compliments and questions.

    Wonderful give-away too!

  • Top notch article Karl !

“What truly makes a fragrance special”
To me it depends on taste, body chemistry, experience, how do you perceive the world , and fragrances.
I know all 3 fragrances Karl picked, and the brands behind. As a straightforward person, I’ll have to admit 2/3 are not my cup of tea
    Now one by one :
    1) I’m familiar with all Sous le Manteau fragrances, excluding Odisiaque No6 .
If I have to rate my favorite ones:
    1.Cuir d’Orient
    2.Poudre Impériale
    3.Vapeurs Diablotines /Essence du Sérail

    “underlying latex accord”
The latex is actually one of the most dominant notes on my skin, present from the very beginning. Vapeurs Diablotines is exactly what Karl said it is, leathery , seductive sweet, and how he pointed out stealthy fragrance for “Smooth Operators” 🙂
    2) Eris Parfums I know , excluding Scorpio Rising
    My favorite ones
    1.Mxxx.
    2.Mx.
    3.Night Flower

I was not aware of the “Lady by the day , wild escort by night” idea behind Belle De Jour , to me the fragrance is indolic, carnal and heavy on the seaweed marine ,all at the same time, and again like Karl pointed out not for the faint of heart.

    3) If I have to rate my favorite Naomi Goodsir fragrances
    1. Cuir Velours
    2. Or du Serail
    3. Bois d’Ascese

I bought my 3rd Cuir Velours bottle in the Spring, and i absolutely LOVE all 3 , but definitely not Nuit de Bakélite.
I’m well aware the fragrance received a lot a awards , and is loved by most retired and current contributors on Cafleurebon , to the point of veneration , but the huge overdose of sappy greenness , and animalic tuberose and leather, is something I just can’t appreciate , even from creative point of view.
I’d like to win Vapeurs Diablotines by Sous le Manteau.
I do believe I already follow all the profiles, @waltherp99bg
    Thanks a lot
    USA

  • I find it interesting how Karl connects the artistic experience of a perfume to its ability to shapeshift and lead you in an unexcepted direction. To me I think it would be more in general the ability to tell a story either through twists and turns or through a crescendo, or even a more linear weave of scents that reveals its complexity only to patient sniffers, those who can “listen” to each facet little by little.
Anyway, they all sound wonderful but I think I’d like to win Nuit De Bakelite, as a lover or green and tobacco notes and a tuberose freak.
    I am in Italy, EU

  • I only tested Nuit de Bakelite from this trio, and it’s outworldly, my choice is Vapeurs Diablotines wich i never tried and Nuit de Bakelite! Thanks from EU!

  • intoperfumes says:

I’ve tried two out of these three..Belle de Jour and Nuit de Bakelite – both beautifully made, very unusual from anything other on the market. Would love to try Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines. I like what Nathalie Feisthauer does for other brands, intrigued by description what she has done for this one.
    I live in Italy, EU.

  • Your description of what makes independent perfumes really get in our heads and hearts resonated with me, and for me also what adds to their allure is the feeling that the fragrance was made for the perfumer themselves, rather than for commercial success (even though hopefully it does both!)

If I win, I would chose Belle du Jour first, or Nuit de Bakelite. Thank you for the review, writing for the EU.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

Nuit de Bakelite was inspired by Naomi Goodsir’s love of Bakelite jewelry and is an avant-garde expression of the tuberose flower in all its dimensions. Because I love touberose and when I see a touberose I want it I hope win Nuit de Bakelite.
    I am from EU

  • Hi! I have tried all the three perfume and for what I can say they are quite unique. My favorite is the naomi goodsir, one of the best tuberose fragrances I have ever tried.
    Greetings from Italy milano!

  • When we look at fragrances as an overall they are definately a form of creative artwork. I’ve always been compelled to try niche and smaller fragrance houses as they provide unique experiences and do not churn out the same mass appealing 6-8 note fragrances. I would like to win Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite because the mix of notes I like (leather and cardamom) with interesting carrot, styrax and angelica. Thank you. USA

  • Like mentioned in IG before – the top perfumes from the three perfumers and brands, that have a common theme and the contradiction. Great insights, Karl!

If I were the one to win, I’d choose Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs DIablotines, the only one I don’t have yet.

    Greetings from Switzerland.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I really appreciated Karl’s reviews of these 3 fragrances. His reviews had just enough description to explain/describe the fragrance, its desirability, and why the reader should want it, without being too wordy.

I want to win 2 of these:
Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines (Nathalie Feisthauer) 2016, and Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite (Isabelle Doyen) 2017. But the one I REALLY, REALLY want to win is Vapeurs Diablotines because it is ‘stealthy and goes about its business in a low-key but daring way. coaxing the wearer closer with its contradictory facets of cleanliness versus animalic nuances.’

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • Nice reviews Karl! Well, I can agree with the qualities you mention for a scent be special: hold mystery, create intrigue and difficult to buy (not so sure about last one, but I can relate to the fact of not widely wear and semelled in every corner). So you can sume up to perfumery be an art not a business. The three you mention have a truly great perfumer behind (Feisthauer, Lie and Doyen) and like most niche perfumes an owner/creative director involved from beginning to end. Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines : Mme Bransbourg discovered a 19th century book of folk remedies and love potions. She and Mme Feisthauer put in a nice flacon the duality of cleanliness versus animalic with beautiful leathery resins. Eris Parfums Belle De Jour gives us another history of duality: spouse/escort, private/public person where light florals leads musk and animalics (love the seaweed touch) .Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite brings a 360º of tuberose to life in a kind of vintage perfume with a modern twist. (Vintage like was also Belle de Jour). I would like to win Belle de Jour or Vapeurs Diablotines. I live in Spain, EU.

  • I love indipendent perfumery, as it is not undermined by the business logic, and it moves only as an art expression.I really liked Karl’s description of perfumes, expecially how he underlined the plastic/latex and resinous fell of Naomi Goodsir and Sous Le Manteau.
I’ve never tried these brand and I would love to.
My choices if I win would be:
    Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs DIablotines
    Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite

    Riccardo, Italy EU

  • Karl’s choices are amazing!
For Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines I like that the beauty of it is that it blends spices, sweet tones and an underlying latex accord to create a unique olfactory experience.
For Eris Parfums Belle De Jour I like that it portrayes the conflicting aspects of personality and that it’s not for the faint of heart. 🙂
For Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite I like that it morphs chameleon-esque from slightly naïve Barbie to chain-smoking vixen. So cool!
I’d choose Nuit de Bakélite – sounds most appealing to me. 🙂
    EU

  • interesting back stories, and I have to trust Karl’s nose and ‘judgement’ since I am not familiar with anything from the brands.
I always wonder – would you guess what the brand wanted to convey, through the skills of the perfumers, without knowing the back stories?
I’d like to win Nuit de Bakelite, it definitely sparks my curiosity an avant garde expression of tuberose, as Karl put it.
    I am in EU.

  • I loved Karl’s selection. The three perfumes sound so different of one another, yet all of them charming, unique and absolutely fabulous in their own way. From the spicy ambery Vapeurs to the heady tuberose Nuit de Bakelite to the seemingly innocent man-eater Belle De Jour, they all sound memorable. I would be delighted to win either Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines or Eris Parfums Belle Du Jour. They would be the first fragrances I try from their respective houses.
    I live in the EU.
    Thanks!

  • Thank you for the reviews Karl. Today I’m on a tuberose roll and is the note to watch and Naomi Goodsir’s Nuit de Bakelite caught my attention. I’m really curious about the tobacco base that it is set upon and would love to smell it. I’m in USA

  • welcome is an unrepentant combination of bergamot, yellow mandarin, clove, and bay, with a tinge of incense to set the mind swirling with a heart of herbaceous geranium. The depth of the perfume is a seductive and tempting affair where sweet tones of tonka, styrax, labdanum and vanilla dance with earthy, leathery ones and whisps of animalics come creeping in. A beautiful description by Karl really like all three bit if I am lucky to win I would love to winSous Le Manteau Paris Vapeurs Diablotines. Thanks a million from the UK

  • Vividly green – it has been formulated around an array of raw materials with tuberose as the conductor. I am intrigued by Nuit de Bakelite mostly because of its green facets. I would love to win Nuit de Bakelite. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

  • NituNicolae says:

Fantastic descriptions of such intriguing fragrances. All of these are head turners for sure! Out of the three fragrances mentioned i would hope to win Eris Parfums Belle De Jour, the seaweed aspect just makes me excited! Thank you for this opportunity. From Romania, EU.

  • The descriptions of all of these perfumes are wonderful, and I’d love to try all of them, as I have no experience with the brand. For the draw, however, it would be great to win the 50 ml bottle of Nuit de Bakelite. From USA.

  • I’m intrigued by how original and unique Karl’s reviews of all three perfumes made them sound, but I’m especially interested in Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines based on his description of the clean vs. animalic nuances. That’s the one I’d most like to win. I’m in MN, USA

  • FragranceIsMe says:

My introduction to the world of “Niche Perfumery” started at a small boutique located in the the Olde City section of Philadelphia, Perfumology. In addition to their own niche brand, they offer many “true” niche fragrances as described by Karl. Two of the three houses mentioned in this article, Eris Perfumes and Sous Le Manteau, I have the privilege of experiencing and owning. Eris Perfumes Mxxx and Scorpio Rising are two of my favorites from this house. While Sous Le Manteau Cuir d’Orient is one of my favorite “chill” fragrances in my collection.
My choice of fragrance, if chosen, is Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines. The notes that define this creation, along with the nose of Nathalie Feisthauer, seem as if an aromatic, spicy journey lies ahead that will provide intrigue, mystery, and a challenge to obtain…but with a little luck and winning this giveaway, still attainable 🙂 I’m in the US.

  • Thanks for the article and the pictures Karl!

I was interested in these because of the bottles. My heavily curated fragrance collection must look tody and these bottles look all amazing. Thanks for capturing them so well.

Amber and Musk are the notes my partner I both love. We love those fragrances on each other and have become a staple scent on our date nights. Nuit de Bakélite sounds perfect and we look forward to trying this.

I have not tried any of these fragrances houses yet, but I would I would love add Naomi Goodsir’s Nuit de Bakélite to our collection.

    Greetings from the UK!

  • Great review, all this 3 are totally unknown to me…Wow, how many houses and perfumes. I would like to win Belle du Jour, Nuit de Bakelite and Sous le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines. I live in London, UK.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review Karl. I’m curious to know what criteria you used to select these three fragrances – they are all so different and so crazy.

Each of these fragrances has something that stands out to me

Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines makes use of a latex accord that I can’t quite imagine. It’s also fascinating to see see the brands back story with long lost love potions and the dichotomy between animalic and cleanly nuances.

Eris Parfums Belle De Jour has such an interesting brief – elegance during the day and wildness by night. I love the strongly contrasting notes in this one – florals, salty elements, rubbery notes, hidden musk. It sounds like sordidness and sensuality in a bottle.

Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite – What an interesting impression of a vintage plastic. The use of waxy tuberose and strong sharp green elements to create a crunch texture is so beautiful.

    I would love to win
    1. Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite
2 Eris Parfums Belle De Jour
3 Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines

I have not tried any of these fragrances and would love to.

    Cheers frim WI, USA

  • I loved Karl’s choices of these contradicting perfumes. I enjoy this kind of creations. I tried Vapeurs Diablotines a while back and was hooked ever since. It’s the one I would like to win a bottle of because I cannot find anywhere. The combination of underlying latex with sweet and spicy accords is weird but addictive. It smelled way different than anything else I tried. The balance between animalics and traditional notes was impressive.

Belle De Jour Is intriguing for a female. The image of spouse in the morning and an escort at night is intriguing.

Nuit de Bakelite Also sounds impressive. Redefining florals and tuberose with soft tobacco base. It sounds impressive fir this kind of genre.

Karl’s choices and description shows an impressive taste and good choices of perfumes that most people know nothing about.

    USA

  • Karl always presents such great selections! I’ve sampled Naomi Goodsir’s Nuit de Bakelite. and the tuberose centric scent is wonderful. If I were fortunate enough to win, I would do choose either Nuit de Bakelite or Sous le ManteauVapeurs Diablotines. I’m in MD, USA.

  • I love posts like this — I always want to hear about interesting perfumes I might not know about! The only one of the three I have smelled is Nuit de Bakelite, although I have also smelled the lovely Green Spell by Eris! I would so love to win Belle de Jour — I love the idea of seaweed-edged florals, and I really like that movie. I just want to smell like Catherine Deneuve, really. I’m in New York, USA.

  • Interesting selection.
I like Naomi Goodsir perfumes, I own Bois d’Ascese and I love it. Nuit de Bakélite has always intrigued me, but if I have to choose one of this article, it would be Belle de Jour because I’m a big fan of Antoine Lie.
Thank you and regards from Mexico.

  • Thank you for the fantastic giveaway! I didn’t have the chance to try any of them so far but they all sound great! I would love to win Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite, as a huge tuberose lover! I live in Greece, EU!

  • katyakotovskaya says:

Never had a chance to try out any of these beauties, and I’d love to. I like surprises, so I’m intrigued by Karl’s description of Belle Du Jour. It seems to be pretty unusual. Would be happy to win a bottle. EU

  • I do enjoy unique fragrances, especially when created by independent master perfumers. I have tried Eris and Naomi Goodsir brands. Sous Le Manteau is new to me, thanks for the introduction. If lucky, I’d choose Belle De Jour or Vapeurs Diablotines. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • wandering_nose says:

I love Karl’s choices, they are very innovative, different and daring, would love to try them all in honesty! Definitely the art of independent perfume making in its pure form. I like how he describes Vapeurs Diablotines as “coaxing you closer with its contradictory facets of cleanliness versus animalic nuances”. Belle de Jour with her provoking duality of tender and powerful in equal measure. I need to say though that Nuit de Bakelite feels like a cosmic fire burning from the inside of my soul from the moment I start thinking about it… I am completely captivated. I actually HAVE to smell it and sooner or later I will. Greetings from the EU

  • Karl’s choices were intriguing in that they are all scents that are completely off the radar. I have not tried any of these fragrances, but I like Scorpio Rising by Eris, and Cuir de Velours by Naomi Goodsir. I would like to win 1) Nuit de Bakelite; 2) Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines or 3) Belle du Jour. NV, USA.

  • AdventurousFox says:

As always, contributors and content creators for Cafleurebon have superb descriptions of fragrances. All of them sound very intriguing, but as I’m a big fan of musks and tuberose and already have lots of different samples and bottles, I would love to try Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines and possibly win the bottle. The combination of synthetic and natural notes sounds very attractive. Glad to see they’re all available in the EU. Greetings from EU, Croatia

  • I am so interested in a Belle du Jour since it was so risky and courageous to bring to market. The description of Nuit de Bakelite is the most spot on description I’ve ever read. I own it and love it, but never wear it when my husband is home as it’s the one in my collection he does not like. I’d love to win Belle Du Jour. thanks for the chance. USA.

  • foreverscents says:

I haven’t tried any of the three fragrances featured in Karl’s review, but I am intrigued by all of them. I notice a subversive yet approachable theme in the three fragrances. Each also seems to have a surprising note.
I would choose Belle Du Jour because I love the film, Catherine Deneuve, and the writing of Barbara Herman.
    I live in the USA.

  • I never had a chance to smell all 3 brands Karl presented to us , and their fragrances made by independent perfumers.
Out of the 3 , most appealing to me is Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines . The sexy leather , latex , sweet and resinous base i think will make the fragrance smell like a real seductive potion, let’s get naughty…
    Thanks for the draw
    USA

  • Id Like to win belle de jour. It’s cool that all 3 seem super intriguing and cant picture how they smell but super courious. I havent tried them. Im from EU

  • I think that nuit de Bakelite is a must try for every perfume lover (I still didn’t try it though). Also It scares me a little as I have some problems with insomnia 😀 among these brands I tried only Odisiaque No6 Sous le Manteau. I would love to win Sous le Manteau, although other two in Karl’s review sound pretty interesting.

  • So beautiful article!!
I am particularly intrigued by Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs DIablotines- rich, woody, smoky with touch of leather notes.
Not fan of tuberose, so can not say I love Nuit de Bakelite.
I would like to win Eris Perfume.

I loved Karl’s choices and reviews of the three independent perfumes every fragrance lover should try. Karl’s theory about what makes a fragrance special One, they hold mystery. Two, they create intrigue. Three, they are not sold everywhere. Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines with a sultry amber glaze sounds delightful, Eris Parfums Belle De Jour sounds super unique with white florals, aquatic notes, and the rubbery effects, Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite sounds really interesting with the vintage Tuberose and green facets. If I win I would choose Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotines, Eris Parfums Belle De Jour, and lastly Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite. I haven’t tried anything from these brands. I am from the USA.

  • Great article Karl
These three perfumes really appeal to me for different reasons. Since I love the idea of a perfume based on a long lost recipe for a love potion I will choose Sous Le Manteau Vapeurs Diablotine. I also took the online test and that is what the site recommended. Eu

I’m very interested to try all three of these fragrances. I haven’t tried any of them yet. I guess that “Nuit De Bakelite” appeals to me the most and for multiple reasons, e.g. I want to see what the styrax is like and I probably don’t have anything like it in my collection. When Karl described it as “rich and sensual with resinous notes and a soft tobacco base”, I decided to be entered in the giveaway for it. I live in the U.S.A.

  • I agree with Karl that the independent fragrances are the way to explore truly artistic side of scent. As I have had the chance to test Vapeurs Diablotines I have to say that description is spot on (in my opinion). It is subtle and daring at the same time. In my opinion that daring component is at least partially coming from spices and latex notes in this scent. However it is not a scent which will “scream” at people around you, but more bring intrigue and seduce them (as a good love potion should) to want to smell it and understand it more. This fragrance is also my choice if I am so lucky to win it. Greetings from Austria.

  • Out of Sous le Manteau, Eris Parfums and Naomi Goodsir i only know one fragrance, Cuir d’Orient from Sous le Manteau. I’m not sure if it’s made by the same perfumer , Nathalie Feisthauer , but it smells gorgeous, like Pear Vanilla Cake and suede leather.
Karl Topham take on Vapeurs Diablotines made me think of making Clove Orange Upside-Down Cake , and later on sharing it with my girlfriend, while sitting on a leather sofa. One seductive Cake , and one seductive fragrance .
Vapeurs Diablotines is the fragrance i’d like to win
Appreciate the 3 mini reviews, and the giveaway campaign

People are talking about Naomi Goodsir frequently on Social Media , and YouTube, I’m still new to the brand. Well I’m also new to the other two brands, Eris Parfums and Sous Le Manteau, Karl chose not easy to sample fragrances.
Belle De Jour is so artistic, but the smell of seaweed and leather is not something I’d be interested in.
Between Vapeurs Diablotines and Nuit de Bakelite , I do believe Vapeurs Diablotines will suit me more. I’m comfortable with all spicy , leather and herbal nuances
Thanks to Karl , and to Sous Le Manteau, Eris Parfums and Naomi Goodsir

  • Most of my experience in this hobby is with American niche perfumes, and I’ve gotten to try some really remarkable offerings. Niche perfumes are rarely boring and often exceptional. Thank you for profiling some of your favorites, Karl!

I love the concept of Belle De Jour. I’m not sure it sounds like something I’d enjoy often based on the notes, but I’m really intrigued by the combination of seaweed, jasmine, and coriander. Nuit de Bakelite is also audacious and conceptually surprising. I’m really curious how green notes marry to plastic and leather.

I’d love to win all three of these, but I’m most interested in Nuit de Bakelite. I’m in the midwest, USA.

I haven’t tried any of these perfumers before.

  • These three perfumes sound so very different. They definitely have some different combinations that I wouldn’t have expected together, and definitely seem interesting/challenging! Each of them has a little bit of a twist, so it’s hard to really choose between them. I’d love to enter the draw for all three. I live in the USA. I’ve never tried anything by any of these houses or perfumers before, so I’d love to be able to give one a try!

  • Naomi Goodsir fragrances I’ve sampled, read Sous Le Manteau reviews on Cafleurebon, but I know nothing about Eris Parfums.
    Special fragrance?
In terms of originality all Vapeurs Diablotines, Belle De Jour and Nuit de Bakelite are unique.
I believe Vapeurs Diablotines is more suited for me, naughty, sweet and funky.
By the way Or du Serail is my favorite Naomi Goodsir

  • I love that the selected scents are a range of moods and the stories they tell are so varied. I am making notes tobtry them all, but if selected would choose the Vapeurs Diablotines for its notes list.
