“No one has ever described snow in this way before –

As if all the world were a bite in its mouth.

Cotton seeds in the white boll, mountains hidden in its midst…

The intellect goes numb and rightly so

For how can the firebird fly from a nest of snow…”  – Kamāl-al-Din Esmā’īl    Esfahānī (12th century)

The warmth of the fireside, the delicate frozen beauty of falling, flying snowflakes and their cold cousins – ice flowers, frost and rime – are captured together and held captive in Sarah Horowitz Parfums new Banq de Parfum Snow Globe.  A juxtaposition of the comfort of indoor heat and the cold fresh winter air is preserved and enshrined in bottles of perfume, creating a diorama in scent, an olfactory landscape of winter’s first snowfall.

“… I really wanted to create that feeling of the lushness, of being inside with a cozy fire but, at the same time, having crisp, white snowflakes falling on the outside of a window pane.” Sarah Horowitz-Thran via Sarah Horowitz Parfums Smell O Vision

With the new Banq de Parfum Snow Globe, Sarah Horowitz-Thran has realized a winter wonderland in an exquisite, ethereal, chilled amber fragrance. Even before the snow-stars begin floating down from the dark sky I can smell the chill in the air. Cool green top-notes of spearmint and piñon pine are carefully and judiciously employed to create impressions of a brisk, frosty breath. As the snow begins to swirl, the heart of Sarah Horowitz Parfums Snow Globe, rich with the heat of white and classic amber, is glazed with icy cool elements of evergreen and sweet mint.  A delicate balance between warm amber and cold frost is maintained throughout the life of the fragrance, the snowflakes never quite melting against the windowpane.  When I wake the next morning, the snow is still falling as oakmoss and amber continue to radiate their cozy glow.

Garden in a Snow Globe by Gail Gross ©

In Snow Globe, Sarah Horowitz-Thran brings together and masterfully reconciles the elements of fire and ice. Polar opposites join to create a perfume that is at once mysterious and familiar, classical and contemporary, a fragrance I love now as the snow falls, and will, no doubt, relish as a cool reminder of winter’s chill in the inevitable heat of summer.

Notes:  Spearmint, piñon pine, forest rain, amber blanc, classic amber and oakmoss.

Disclaimer:  I would like to thank Sarah Horowitz Parfums for my cherished bottle of Snow Globe.  My opinions are my own.

A fragrance of opposites…sounds intriguing and def bottle-worthy. Would like to have the opportunity to experience this fragrance. I’ve never had the chance to get my nose on anything produced by Ms. Horowitz. -Best, Virginia USA

  • Sounds exquisite indeed! Love the description of Snow Globe as a winter wonderland in a bottle. I am totally into mysterious scents and this perfume seems to fit the bill. Would love to give this a try. Regards from Boston USA.

Wonderfully described – love a well done mint & with evergreen and oakmoss- oh my, Snow Globe sounds like a perfect winter frag

  • “A winter wonderland in an exquisite, ethereal, chilled amber fragrance” – That sounds magical to me. I can literally imagine how great this fragrance must smell. I’ve never tried any of Sarah’s fragrances but they sound amazing. I’d love to try this one. Please enter me in your giveaway. Commenting from Kentucky.

  • This sounds like a perfect winter fragrance. Spearmint and amber does seems like a fantastic mix. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

  • I enjoy experiencing mint in a perfume, my favorite being Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mentafollia. In Snow Globe, the mint’s juxtaposition with the woods, amber and oak moss conjures up a snowy day blissfully spent indoors. I’ve not tried any Sarah Horowitz perfumes before. I’m in the US

  • Everything about this fragrance makes me want to go out and get it. I love the juxtaposition of notes to create the atmosphere of snow, but warmth at the same time. I would really love to wear this. Thank you for a great review and the generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • How does one capture the cold freshness of winter air coupled with the comfort and warmth of a fire?
Intrigue sets in early with the balance of pine, spearmint and amber…
    Texas, USA

  • Interested in the blend of notes mentioned. Seems like a fresh winter fragrance. Would love to try this!

  • Armando Esparza Jr says:

HUGE fan of scents with contrasting vibes at the same time. Bright but dark, fresh but dirty…would like to try this out!

  • Snow Globe sounds like a bold and creative effort I would be eager to try. I love mint and amber, but have never experienced them together in a fragrance. I have never tried a Sarah Horowitz perfume, but this one sounds lovely. From Florida, USA

  • The thing that appeals to me most is probably the oakmoss, but I’m curious how spearmint plays in this to create that minty fresh wintry mix. I’ve yet to try Sarah Horowitz’ perfumes. Her name sounds so familiar though and I’m wondering if she ever did some sort of collab. I’m in the US.

Great review Sounds like a great scent! I love the description of a smooth glass icy mountain once
On a vacation to New Mexico, I discovered piñón nuts and couldn’t get enough, they were so delicious and a strong reminder of the forest, snow globe has great notes, I haven’t tried any of these yet.

  • I like that this fragrance seems to have cool and warm elements. Also it seems it will be able to be warn in cool and warm weather because of this. I have not been able to try any perfumes created by Sarah Horowitz-Thran. I live in CT USA. Thank you for the generous draw.

  • 1st off, a great name! this fragrance will definitely work as i drink spearmint tea w/a local NorCal pine honey. & i wouldn’t @ all b surprised if snow globe becomes my fav sarah horowitz-thran fragrance

  • Thanks for another great review, Gail! I’m very interested to smell this because of how it was described – ‘A juxtaposition of the comfort of indoor heat and the cold fresh winter air is preserved and enshrined in bottles of perfume, creating a diorama in scent.’ My favorite Sarah Horowitz perfume is The Now. Thanks for this opportunity. – CA, USA

  • My favorite part of the review is Gail’s photography! I love the described contrast between cold and warm, outdoors and indoors. It sounds like a very unusual take on amber, which intrigues me. I haven’t tried any of Sarah Horowtiz’ fragrances and would love to try this one. I am in the USA. Thanks1

  • I am very much intrigued by this creation that fuses both warm and cold features. I love the name and the idea of a chilly amber. I haven’t had a chance to try any of the fragrances from this house but I have read about them. I live in the USA.

  • bigscoundrel says:

I like how the fragrance is able to reconcile the duality of notes. I like the idea of using spearmint in more fragrances. New Jersey, USA.

  • I like the promise that is the description, the “delicate balance between warm amber and cold frost”. I have yet to smell one of Sarah’s creations. US

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

I am excited to see the use of spearmint in this limited edition fragrance–so few perfumes with “mint” notes actually go this route, and it is my favorite of the mint family both for its scent and its softer edges and more herbal taste. I adore Sarah’s work and own her Perfect Bliss, Perfect Coconut Milk, Perfect Nectar, Perfect Gardenia, and Perfect Veil–which is one of my most beloved scents and one I will never be without. I am very much looking forward to trying this new fragrance. Thank you for bringing it to our awareness and to Sarah for her generosity. CONUS

  • I would love to see how an Amber is made chilly. The description also brings to mind the feeling of my wedding scent, so I’d love to try it. I live in the USA.

  • Gail has done a beautiful job of describing this – can almost smell it! I’ve only ever tried one SHT perfume and blind bought it – Pride & Carnation — it’s gorgeous! Love the sound of this with the mint at top and oakmoss drydown. Thank you for the generous draw! in US

  • I love the frost mixed with the cozy, and the crispness of the mint and pine. No snow here, just non stop rain. I hope to try this soon!

  • I liked the imagery of snow that doesn’t quite melt and the contrast of the warm indoors to the frozen outdoors in winter. Thank you Gail for the review and Sarah Horowitz Parfums for the giveaway. I’m in USA

  • Pine and oakMoss sound lovely. Interesting description of Hot and cold in one. I have never smelled any of Sarah’s perfumes that I know of. Would love to try!

  • This fragrance has an interesting blending of notes. Snow globe and winter wonderland. I have not tried any of Sarah Horowitz’s fragrances. I would love to. Beautiful article Gail. USA, California.

  • Ernestine Puckey says:

I have never not loved a fragrance from Sarah. The opposite notes of Snowglobe speak to me.

  • The most appealing thing about Sarah Horowitz’s Snowglobe is that juxtaposition of seemingly disparate elements. Who doesn’t love being cozy and warm inside while nature is bedecked with the beauty of snow? Thanks for the review Gail and the chance! I’m in Oregon, US.

  • patrick_348 says:

The idea that Gail describes sounds super. To me winter is fragrance time, a time when wearing something that smells good makes up for the fewer scents from nature. I love this idea of blending cold and warm. I’ve never tried a scent from this perfumer, but this sounds like a great place to start. In the US, in NC.

  • I love that this is a fragrance from two different poles! I love the sound of an ambery fragrance with minty freshness! I’ve never had the opportunity to smell any of her other works, but this sounds phenomenal! Best of luck from Pennsyvlania!

  • m.r.everything says:

Gail killed it with the opening photo of a snow globe melded with the cold, snowy outdoors! It is fantastic and edited oh-so-perfectly! The photo alone makes you want to grab a sample of Snowglobe, if not a bottle while you are at it! The “ethereal, chilled amber” fragrance is what gets your mind going… mine anyway! The warmth and coziness of amber, chilled down and ethereal…. what?!?! That is so opposite and and striking that who wouldn’t want to seek this one out to have a sniff? This is surely a fragrance I would love to get my nose on!

Thank you Gail, for the beautiful artwork and for the mind-luring article on Snowglobe. You have made yet another one go on my list for sure! Thank you Sarah, for your generosity and for this warming, yet chilling opportunity! This is one to lookout for most definitely! I have yet to try anything from Sarah’s line, but that will change in the future for sure! Sending warmed and chilled comments from Delaware, US. Good luck to all and I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their day!

  • I’ve wanted to try Sarah Horowitz Parfums for some time now. Snow Globe sounds like what I need right now. Bringing together the cold temps and the warm feeling of amber is an inviting idea. I would love to smell her version of this. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway! Virginia USA

  • redwheelbarrow says:

This sounds delightful! I love the inspiration of being cozy by a fireplace with the snow falling. The notes listed sound like this fragrance would do just that. I’d love to try this one. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • Gail – Thank you for the fantastic review! Sarah, thank you very much for this beautiful perfume and the generosity of the giveaway.

This sounds like an amazing fragrance. I am particularly intrigued by how the spearmint note interacts with the piñon pine note, and the amber. I can see this definitely evoking the feelings of being in front of a cozy fire while snow gently falls outside.

I have not yet tried anything from this house, but have longed to for awhile. It’s a definite must!

    Thank you,

    Tony from Boston, MA

  • Holly Torgrimson says:

I like how she describes bringing together the fire and ice! Polar opposites excites me! I can see the vision and almost smell the sent just by reading her masterful blog! Beautifully written!

  • This entire winter season has been so warm. Even though we live in the desert we used to get atleast one snow a year. It has been four years since now. My heart aches for the cold winter chill of snow. The soft stillness and quite calm as it blankets the earth. Gail has pulled my heart strings with this beautiful perfume review. I now long to smell Snowglobe and be taken to an imaginary winter wonderland. I love all of Sarah’s perfumes. I have even sampled those not listed with her name but just because she was the perfumer. My all time favorite is Perfect Veil. It is always feminine, comforting, never offensive to those around me. All around perfection.

  • My favorite Sarah Horowitz Thran perfume is perfect veil.
I love the idea of warm and cold elements the amber and mint.
Snow globe is such a great name and the art really captures it

  • Interesting combination of spearmint and amber! It really made me curious and to sniff it! Thank you for the cozy feeling that your story has brought! NJ, USA

  • Like other readers, my curiosity is piqued by the idea of a cold amber. I keep trying to put together the idea of minty chill and warm amber in my mental smell-o-vision and it’s not working! As for the review, I love the imagery of snowflakes and frost flowers. I don’t live somewhere where it snows often so snow has a magical quality to me. I’ve tried Perfect Coconut Milk by Horowitz before, and enjoyed it – a very cozy scent.

I’d like to join – I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • Michael Prince says:

Snow Globe sounds like a bold and creative effort I would be eager to try. I love mint Based fragrances, but have never experienced them together With amber hence am bit excited. I have never tried a Sarah Horowitz perfume before hence if I win this would be my first, AND this one sounds lovely.

    Am from Atlanta-GA

  • I can’t imagine amber in a snow fragrance. It’s a warm note. Hmmm. Interesting. As for Sarah’s work, I tried samples many years ago before she was as known and this hobby was as mainstream and popular. My fave of these is Coeur:
    Prelude to Fall
    Arise
    Perfect Twilight
    Perfect Love
    Coeur de Sang
    Huntress
    Perfect Coconut Milk

  • I loved Gail’s review and description of Snow Globe! I love the warmth of the amber and the iciness of the spearmint (warm/cold). I was intrigued by “A winter wonderland in an exquisite, ethereal, chilled amber fragrance.” I love Sarah’s fragrances and would love to try this one. Thanks for the generous giveaway and I live in the US!

  • The first thing I thought after reading the name of the perfume was “It better have peppermint” and it does! Nice!
I like her Invisible Veil perfume. It just smells clean. I hope to smell this one as well. Peppermint!

  • Lauren Boucher says:

Although I do not like snow or winter weather I do appreciate this post. I always love my mom’s very well spoken words.❤

  • Gail, once again you completely blow me away with your words. Your gift of capturing exactly what I hope to inspire through scent in words never ceases to amaze me – and I am eternally grateful! To all of you who took the time to post, thank you for sharing your thoughts and for loving on Gail as I do – and for your shared love of perfume!!!
