Prosody London Moire Mimosa review

“Inspired by the quest to create a fragrance as magical as a kiss on warm silky skin.  The freshness of a first kiss, innocent and joyful.”-Kershen Teo

Mimosa is an interesting floral in that it has many pronounced facets.  Its beauty lies in its complexity therefore it is ideal as a heart note in perfumery.  Kershen Teo of Prosody London has enhanced the beauty of mimosa with a variety of accents to weave his golden tapestry and shed light on a floral which is known for its vintage style, but here it is done in a thoroughly modern way. In a world saturated with overt sexualisation it is refreshing to experience a scent that takes us back to traditional courtship and the focus of a kiss as opposed to rushing for instant aggrandisement.  Prosody London Moiré Mimosa is inspired by the class and elegance of Audrey Hepburn, whilst its golden hues are intuitive of the ‘Golden Style’ of Gustav Klimt’s symbolic imagery.  With Moiré Mimosa Kershen Teo sought to develop a scent that created a tapestry of light and pleasure.

Gustav Klimt Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, 1907/wiki art

Mr. Teo was inspired by the 1907 painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer by Gustav Klimt, not for its symbolic message, rather for the golden hues and shades which are illuminating and mesmerising in their lustre.  The fusion of Byzantine, Egyptian and Asian references was Klimt’s artistic response to the mosaics he witnessed in Ravenna, Italy, which profoundly affected him.  The subject of his painting ‘Adele’ must have been significant in his life as she is the only muse to appear twice in his paintings.  There is a coyness in her expression and a slightly withdrawn aspect to her stature as she clasps her hands together neatly.  She is adorned in a fashionable dress of ornate splendour whilst a golden ornamented halo surrounds her face, rouged lips and flushed cheeks.

The mimosa here as with all the ingredients is 100% natural.  Its rising green notes are pronounced by complementing fruitiness.  These bright aspects are clearly defined in Moiré Mimosa, the neroli, melon and Chilean lime set up a fresh and light entrance which is most enjoyable.  These elements shine like the shimmering diamond choker which bedecks Adele’s neck.  They fuse beautifully with the heart of mimosa acting to accentuate the purity of it.

As the scent transitions, the floral qualities begin to stand out.  Here Mr Teo has blended almond blossom and Indian tuberose to create a gorgeous floral accord. This is where the reference to a ‘first kiss’ is reminiscent to us. We pick up on the almond tones very clearly and this gives a smooth luscious element to the experience. At this point I envision Audrey Hepburn, there is an innocence and naivety typifying the breeze and shimmer of her style. Moiré Mimosa develops a creamy nuance that flows throughout its lifecycle which I understand comes from the combination of coconut and almond blossom with the mimosa making it both feather-light and soft. There’s an elegance and beauty about it that is quite haunting and synonymous with sophistication.

Keep in mind that this is a ‘cologne naturel’ meant for spritzing throughout the day.  The lasting power of this scent is more than adequate and is supposed to be light and airy.  Harmonising both high-quality and longevity is challenging in natural perfumery.  However, Mr Teo has managed to produce a fragrance that will keep on pushing throughout the morning.  Moiré Mimosa is a study in elegance and refinement – it is pleasure, beauty and style in a bottle.

This is another fragrance that hearkens to yesteryear. I just love that. The past really is connected to the “now.” Why? Because we want to say that we lived through something, and we got some things right, you know? Be careful dismissing old mores whole cloth. Often what is left in its place isn’t as good or could even be problematic culturally/socially.

I love that the ingredients in this perfume are 100% natural! The neroli, melon and Chilean lime really stand out as summer approaches. This feels like it is going to be a beautiful fragrance! There is nothing like a perfume to lift your spirit and mood!

As always, thanks for the content and the opportunity. 🙂

This fragrance sounds like it might be a stretch for me, but I am more than willing to expand my fragrance palate.

  • I was really struck by the beauty of the inspiration portrait and the almond blossom note. I have never tried an all-natural fragrance so this would be great! I live in CA, USA.

Recently discovering how much I love mimosa as a note in fragrance (Aqua Celestia Cologne Forte), the refined and airy quality that Moiré Mimosa seems to possess is right up my alley 🙂 Seems very special and beautiful. – Texas, USA

  • I adore mimosa and though usually a leather/gourmand lover I have been searching for a scent better suited to the heat of summer… that isn’t too cloying. This sounds like it would radiate cool, sunshiny perfection. In California, US

  • One of my favourite scents is Mimosa and the Klimt inspiration is another favourite. I would love a perfume that draws on natural mimosa scent, that would be very special. It appeals as I don’t like heady last forever scents so a light touch cologne type is perfect. I definitely need to seek prosody out and I would love to start with Moire Mimosa, i am in U.K.

  • Notes: Neroli Melon Coconut Chilean Lime Almond Blossom Mimosa Indian Tuberose. Really intrigued by the notes and longevity seems like a great for Summer. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

Notes: Neroli Melon Coconut Chilean Lime Almond Blossom Mimosa Indian Tuberose. I am particularly curious about the notes Indian Tuberose and Chilean Lime. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • How nice. Sometimes almond becomes too strong on my skin. With something as light as Prosody London Moire Mimosa, that doesn’t seem like it will be a problem. I am in the US.

  • I’m really intrigued by how this is said to be light and airy. While I enjoy floral scents, I often find the actual genre of perfumes a bit suffocating, so this sounds like the type that would work for me. I love that photo of Audrey in that shade of yellow, such a great mood for Spring. USA

  • The notes for this one sounds awesome. I love neroli and melon notes. I live in Georgia USA.Thanks for the giveaway.

  • I could be convinced to spritz through out the day! This sounds lovely and I’m not sure I recognize mimosa as a scent. In maryland

I’ve been sampling more natural perfumes lately and Moire Mimosa sounds lovely! The tuberose, lime, coconut and of course, mimosa, reminds me of a golden summer day, The Klimt portrait showing a gilded Adele Bloch-Bauer is apropos. I’m unsure of the melon note, but I trust Mr Teo. MD, USA.

  • Regis Monkton says:

Prosody London is definitely one of the many fragrance houses which I’d like to familiarize myself with. I certainly would like to see what Mr. Teo’s use of natural ingredients is like. I believe that this fragrance would cause me to have a better familiarity with mimosa. Karl’s review caused me to think that I would appreciate this fragrance. I live in the U.S.A.

  • From Karl’s review and the listed notes Prosody London Moiré Mimosa seems to be a perfect perfume for summer. The notes are common, so I am curious how Moiré Mimosa is different from typical summer colognes. It does seem very pleasant and I am sure it’s lovely, just not sure if it’s unique. But worth trying, as it’s from a well respected brand. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • Moire Mimosa (Prosody London) sounds like a “study in elegance and refinement- it is pleasure, beauty and style in a bottle”. Mimosa floral given a modern treatment with the combination of green notes, fruitiness, and creamy nuances. Sounds like a natural fragrance worth trying.

Another fantastic fragrance from this house. I really loved the touch of almond blossom and tuberose to give this fragrance the warmth of a kiss.

Fantastic review Karl! What strikes me about Prosody Moiré Mimosa is Karl’s description of it’s focus on the complexity of the floral heart, the beauty of it’s coy seductiveness without overt sexualization and the courtship of a kiss instead of the rush to completion. I also enjoy the comparison between that complex beauty and the class and elegance of Audrey Hepburn, who has always been an icon to me, with her bright golden energy. I live in the US.
