Perfumes To Wear Under Quarantine + Green, White, Red, Broken and Mended Draw

spring perfumes to wear during quarantine

Green, green grass – Elena Cvjetkovic

“Memory is the diary we all carry about with us.” ― Oscar Wilde

I’ve been wanting to write you a most beautiful perfume review. It would be one that would be filled with mind-tingling, carefully chosen words, smoothly flowing, perfectly constructed sentences painting vivid images of fragrant impressions, to create a small magnetic portal into the other world(s) where perfume takes us, filled with never-fading rainbows, heavenly arrays of flowers, and a chorus of divinely singing muses of art.  I couldn’t. Not today. So I stopped and took my time to notice the exuberance of spring and the beauty of little things, once taken for granted, now new and exciting entries in the fragrant diary of April 2020, even though I am  quarantine.

Spring IS here, and finally in full bloom! The world outside (observed mostly through windows lately) comes adorned with colors of white, yellow, pink, and lilac hues and the scent of delicious fresh greenery, soft rains and wet soil, their scent inhaled hungrily during open windows or short, time-limited strolls around my neighborhood.

Even though your body is in quarantine – your mind isn’t. So I let it focus on something else: creating new, good memories, fragrance-colored memories, glimpses of beauty, streaks of positivity, simple pleasures amped to the maximum:

best fragrances to wear when you are under quarantine this spring

Songs of Spring by Willian Adolphe Bouguereau, 1889., detail – editing by Elena Cvjetkovic

Quarantine Day 29

Green. Bright, fresh, and new, all around. From lime to sage green, unmasked chlorophyll in all its might! Healing green, the most relaxing color there is, a symbol of growth and rebirth, of life! I wanted to touch the green, to embrace it, to rejoice in it like a little child. To feel  the old, eternal and yet so new touch of wet, cold fresh grass under my feet, with dandelions and daisies singing songs of spring.

Pergola by Eglija Vaitkevice/PerfumeExaltatum: A beautifully constructed neo-vintage Fougere fragrance,  soul-awakening fresh and featuring 50 shades of lavishly blended green, angelic, gentle, soothing green. A green you want to remember forever, to breathe in and soak yourself into, rejuvenating spring green!

Notes: Bergamote, Petitgrain, Green Notes, Grass, Ginger, Narcissus, Tuberose, Jasminum Grandiflorum, Violet Leaves, Myrtle, Lily-of-the-Valley, English Ivy, Ylang-ylang, Galbanum, Hyacinth,  Reseda, Hay Absolute, Clary Sage, Patchouli, Vetiver, Styrax, Beeswax, Tree moss.

Quarantine Day 31

The elegance of white, have you noticed it all around? Little white blossoms and flowers, dandelions clad in puffy white delicate fabric, heavy branches of blooming trees bursting with whites and soft pinks, fragile white petals flying in the wind, reminding me of my favorite spring dresses, forgotten in the wardrobe, unnecessary. I almost forgot what it feels like to swirl around in a dress, the lightness and the feel of textures and different materials on the skin, a fragile touch of so much needed effortless femininity…

Oscar de la renta for Balmain 1994

Oscar de la Renta for Pierre Balmain 1994

Vision in White, by Neil Morris/Neil Morris Fragrances: This beautiful perfume was created based on a photo Cafleurebon’s EIC Michelyn Camen sent Neil in 2013: an Oscar De La Renta  for Balmain model “whose face cannot be seen, but whose presence cannot be ignored“. It was meant to evoke the vintage Chanel and Guerlain perfumes, and oh! did it succeed! Dignified, refined elegance that is very much alive and breathing, a white floral fragrance with an inner shine and layers of whiteness. Gentle traces of peach and sparkling, bitter freshness of aldehyde supported bergamot, and mandarin shine softly in the opening. White, heaps of dainty white jasmine, gardenia, orchid, and honeysuckle petals, forming a finely crafted white dress made of the most exquisite materials that swirls around you joyfully! I don’t even need a dress now in Quarantine: Vision in White does the trick!

Notes: Mandarin, Aldehydes, Italian Bergamot, Peach, Plum Blossom, Jasmine, Green Tea, Honeysuckle, Gardenia, Orchid, Oakmoss, Musk, Orris

Quarantine Day 33

The color of red, red like red lipstick that just fell out of my cosmetics bag that was sitting all alone, forgotten and lonely on a shelf in the hallway since the Q-Day 1. It felt so strange to just touch it, to try to apply it with clumsy fingers that seem to have forgotten how to dip in and move that brush in precise, smooth strokes. It might seem childish but I had to open every tube, every little lid and – smell it. Yes, I know: Frederic Malle’s Lipstick Rose might be the first and finest creamy, cosmetic-vibe perfume that comes to your mind, and I adore it, but this time something else crossed my mind. Applying red lipstick in slow motion movement felt more decadent, more…tense, highly intimate, definitely sensual.

Putain des Palaces by Nathalie Feisthauer, Etat Libre d’Orange: Its opening reminds me of the scent of a cosmetics drawer, so familiar and comfortable, tender, and gentle. Putain des Palaces is truly a beautiful spring fragrance, delightfully refined and elegant like the finest skin powder with violets and musks, but it is also purposefully seductive, dark, leathery and animalic in the drydown. The miracle of applying red lipstick: one of those little indulgences that can keep you going, with a feeling of strength, hope, and instant smile under my favorite matte intense red! What a difference a little red lipstick together with Putain des Palaces made during my April Quarantine!

Notes: Rose absolute, Violet, Leather, Lily of the Valley, Tangerine, Ginger, Rice Powder, Amber, Animalic notes.

Masque Milano Kintsugi review

Kintsugi, editing by Elena Cvjetkovic for Masque Milano

Quarantine Day X (Who’s counting anymore?)

Kintsugi at my Quarantine home – inside, magnolia trees blooming outside. Strange, but that was the first thing that came to my mind – Kintsugi. Cracks on the walls, vertical, horizontal, crooked patterns of breakage caused by an earthquake. Cracks on the inside, a spiderweb of invisible fine and rough lines brought about by new rules and forced habits imposed on us almost overnight. I’m observing through my window a magnolia tree starting to bloom, planning to sneak out and to pick one, just one single flower. The desire to touch those petals, to breathe in its smell is so strong that it makes me laugh. Kintsugi. The beauty of our own fragility, cracking open to reveal the sources of inner strength and resilience: forgiving, moving forward, rebounding, transitioning from broken to beautiful. Hope and acceptance, or as Masque Milano quotes: „Cherish the simple. Cherish the old. Do not hide your scars, show them with pride.“

Kintsugi by Vanina Muracciole / Masque Milano: A springtime appropriate modern chypre with an opening of bright floral notes, slightly bitter citrusy-salty vegetal to my nose at first, but touched by warm, sunlit amber. It unfolds slowly, not precisely revealing a flower-by-flower progression – it rather smells like a garden full of flowers with green and moist undertones, through which creamy magnolias and fragile roses Centifolia glow on my skin. I remembered that it smelled completely different on my friends: its heart made of Patchouli Coeur seemed to beat stronger on them than on me, although I also feel the leathery, earthy and musky tones intensely in the drydown. A chypre without oakmoss, an old form shattered and boldly recreated.

Notes: Bergamot essential oil, Chinese magnolia essential oil, Savory amber, Golden suede, Centifolia rose Grasse absolute, Violet leaf absoluteBenzoin Siam, Raspberry leaf absolute, Patchouli CoeurVanilla absolute

Congratulations to Masque Milano on their 2020 Art and Olfaction Finalist for Love Kills

#stayathome  #staysafe and enjoy perfumes!

This was the article I needed to read today! I appreciated the choices for different moods of quarantine. I am, however, really finding myself gravitating towards outdoorsy/green scents to fulfill the lack of substantial outdoor time. I am still taking walks and running but, of course, just having much less time to walk around and enjoy the oncoming spring. That said, when I DO walk, I really notice the little shoots of lily of the valley coming up, the lilacs about the burst, and magnolias now wilting, etc. I have really be enjoying Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s Highland Idyll–the humid, green, polleny outdoorsiness reminds me of a favorite location of mind, so it is a poignant reminder of that place to wear it. If I were to win this generous draw, I’d love the bottle of Pergola. Thanks so much for the draw! I’m in the US.

  • I love how the right fragrance at the right time can be uplifting and help you to pick yourself up, put lipstick on and carry on. I like how Elena takes inspiration from the outside, colours and feelings to pick that right fragrance for the day. I’m trying to do the same every morning to not let go of routine and indulge myself a bit. At the moment I would pick Neil Morris’ vision in white.

  • Time flies. I’m amazed at how long it’s been since the lockdown. Days blend together – what day is it – what week – what month? I hope we are passed the half way mark. Thank you for the review which to, reminds me to still try to take each day as it’s own.

I have been taking this time at home to wear some of my more powerful offerings which I need to apply in restraint during normal office work days.

I enjoyed the remarks on Putains de Palaces, which is the fragrance I would choose to win. From Canada.

  • i dont tend to wear perfume in the house but if i did i would choose something that definitely reminds me of the outside and i believe these choices represent this

  • Pergola sounds lovely, but Vision in White calls my name – i have lately worn Lovely by SJP as it’s floral and easy – moving away from the cozy, spicy, woody, oriental scents of winter. i’ll soon need to swap out my winter scents for spring and summer. I too have been selecting some different perfumes since i’m WFH now, and won’t offend any office mates. Thank you for the review and the draw! I’m in the US.

  • Elena’s review was very entertaining. She also described the fragrances wonderfully. Like most people who love a great fragrance during this quarantine I have been purchasing and wearing fragrances to uplift my spirits. All of Elena’s choice’s express sounds like something I need right now but Vision in White sounds like fragrance I would lean on to lift my spirits during this time. I would love to win Vision in White. I’m from Ohio.

  • What a fun article! I’ve been wearing perfume every day as the mood suits me since I don’t have to worry about going into the office anymore. I love that these are all good for spring, depending on which color you are feeling for the day! I pick Putains de Palaces. I’m based in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway

  • Elena,

Thank you for opening your heart and mind to us. It’s been a surreal few weeks and we are still in the thick of it. Perfume and the fragrance community has provided a much needed respite from the angst, frustration and despair swirling around.

Of the perfumes you have showcased here, the only one I’ve tried is the ELdO, as that house was one of my first loves. They are a house where I will buy anything they make since, it’s just so fantastic, even when it doesn’t agree with my skin chemistry.

I have been very lucky to own the newest CFB/NM collab, I will Bring You Flowers, and also the recently reviews Le Parfum d’Ida. Neil is such a wonderful, sweet, beautiful man, and his work has a palpable emotion to it.

Exaltatum is a new brand to me and I must find out more about them. This perfume sounds like a Green Goddess and right up my alley.

I’ve only had the pleasure of sampling a couple of the Masque Milano scents and they are divine! Kintsugi sounds utterly amazing and distinctly beautiful.

For the first couple weeks of quarantine I’d been wearing a mix of my full bottles and testing out new samples. For the past 15 days, I have had the pleasure and honor to be sampling a chunk of Neil Morris’ fragrances, today was day 14 and I’ve got 5/6 more days to go. The man is a brilliant perfumer and his creations have helped me get through this crazy time.

Thank you to the generosity of Exaltatum, Etat Libre d’Orange, Neil Morris and Masque Milano. Also, a hearty congrats to Masque Milano for being a finalist in the 2020 Art & Olfaction awards!

I’m in the US and I would love to try Pergola.

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these wonderful fragrances. I’m a fan of Masque Milano and need to sniff Kintsugi. I was out mowing the lawn today and enjoying my spring flowers, so Pergola would be my choice, if lucky. I love green! Mich USA

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

I have not been dressing up or applying much fragrance since being in quarantine, but do allow myself much more scented baths than I have been taking in years. I am so ready to get outside and breathe the scents of spring! Even here where I live, as remote as it is, parks and walking paths have been closed and hopefully are to reopen this weekend. My choice is the Pergola–I want to feel soft green grass under my feet and inhale its freshness, so good for the soul! USA

  • That was fun to read! Spring is indeed here and we have been lucky to have had beautiful weather. I wear perfume everyday whether or not I’m outside and social. For me, fragrance is a mood lifter and spring heralds a feminine floral fragrance. All these selections are excellent but I would choose Putains de Palace. I’m in MD USA.

  • During this quarantine I’ve been selecting different fragrances according to the mood of the morning and then switched to others according to the mood of the afternoon. Therefore, this review really resonated with me. I’d love to win Vision in White by Neil Morris. I am in the USA. Thank you!

  • It is interesting about the scents Elena wears during isolation. They are so different. But I am doing the same thing. A different scent for the different mood of each day we are doing this. I think I would like Putain des Palaces because the thing I want to do most right now is put on my lipstick and travel. Thank you for the chance to win. USA

  • Eventhough we are in quarantine, let our imagination take us to places we wanna be. Etat Libre d’Orange Putain des Palaces is my solid choice. Red lipstick and a great fragrance are all I need to rock anywhere anytime. IL, USA

  • Elena is celebrating spring and focusing on green fragrances. She says Putains de Palaces has cosmetic vibes and I am someone who enjoys fragrances with lipstick/cosmetic vibe so my choice is Putains de Palaces. USA

  • Soooo I would adore Vision in white! I love white florals and have been wearing Amouage Love Tuberose a lot lately! I find scent to be so therapeutic and uplifting in this time of uncertainty, so to have a new happy fragrance would be a welcome blessing to this stir crazy mom of 5 girls!!! I’m in florida USA. Thanks again, as always for the opportunity and lovely reviews! These reviews are such a welcome escape for me!!!!

  • Nice article, especially for this hard times worldwide. During lockdown i’ve gone through most of my samples and decants and i’ve rediscovered a lot of great fragrances. Need to explore more from the Masque Milano house, i’ve tested a few and liked them a lot. I would choose Putain des Palaces from curiosity since ELDO’s house has some original nice creations in their line. Thanks for the chance, i’m in the EU.

  • Really appreciate Elena’s intro that this was not going to be a pretty review. My favorite part was putting on red lipstick for the first time after many weeks. I live in the USA and would like to putain de palaces

  • Camille Sheil says:

The life of quarintine simply cannot be ignored….it is effecting our everything, even our Spring. I love the overall understanding, where the daily lipsticks are fumbled with as would first timers, and unforseen cracks on the wall, and spiders webs are seen for the first time. Lovely detail!

The fragrance I am drawn to most is the first one, the chlorophyll one…haha Pergola by Exaltutum Perfume! I love green and 50 shades of it sounds like heaven in the truest sense! I enhale green everyday. I don’t think it’s possible to be too green.

I have absolutely been wearing fragrances! Some sad, some happy, some flirty, but all have been very loud! No worries there. Fragrances have gotten me through it, frankly. And I thank everyone at Cafleurebon for helping with this! I wear fragrances, I read about fragrances… I’m positive I dream about them as well.

Thank you for this amazing opportunity! I live in New Hampshire USA!

  • Choosing a daily fragrance has become a small ritual for me during this quarantine, so I appreciate this look at someone else’s thought processes and preferences. I’ll have to wear Putain des Palaces at some point this week. I’m most drawn to the description of Exaltum’s Pergola – 50 shades of green is precisely what I crave right now. I’m in the US.

  • NiceVULady says:

I would wear all of them if I owned them. I can see why Elena picked them. The notes of each personify the colors that Elena described. I would pick either Vision in White (because I love Neil Morris perfumes), or Exaltatum Perfume Pergola. I think I’m going to go with Vision in White because I do so love Neil Morris perfumes. I’ve worn some fragrances inside, but not many. Thank you so much for the lovely refreshing review and a great draw. I’m in the USA and in quarantine.

  • What I found most interesting was how we are having a shared experience and perfume is playing a part of it that gives us a feeling of comfort and normalcy.
It was interesting to see what and why you chose a certain perfume and how given that same thought process compare how my own choices would be different or similar.

I’d choose putain des palaces by etat libre d’orange.
    I’m from Ireland. Eu.

  • Lockdown does a lot with people, hopefully a beautiful scent can get us through the day. A scent for each different mood to accompany you in one of the most bizarre times in most of our lives. Hope to win this one. Living in the EU

  • Thank you Elena for trying to lift our spirits in these difficult times. I found the fact that you chose Kintsugi from Masque Milano rather intriguing since Sebastian mentioned it on his Chypre fragrances video on YouTube. I would choose the Exaltatum Perfume Pergola and I’m in USA.

  • I’ve been loving playing with my fragrances and spraying on ones i haven’t used in a while during this quarantine. id choose putains de palaces and i’m in the US.

  • Always a delight to read Elena. Many thanks for this generous draw. I live in France and have been under strict yet necessary quarantine.
When I open my window I have a Jasmine flower that smells absolutely intoxicating. It began blooming about 3 weeks ago and it gives me instant joy.
I would love to win Pergola from Exaltatum Perfumes.
    I live in France.

  • What a delightful selection from Elena – didn’t expect otherwise. They all sound exquisite- Pergola with its natural, refreshing greenness, Vision in White with its tender floral caress, Putain des Palaces with its ode to femininity and Kintsugi with its tender blooming garden. I would have to choose Putain though – it sounds seductive, comfortable and feminine. Pergola comes as a close second. Who doesn’t love a dewy green in spring? So one of those two would be my choice, should I win. I am in the EU.

  • Hi Loved reading this and all the different aspects to lockdown. I particularly love rose and violet fragrances so id like to try and win Putain des Palaces. I am in U.K.

  • Amanda32828 says:

Love this wonderful review and the Elena’s perfume choices for quarantine. I think if I had the opportunity to choose, I’ll pick Putains de Palaces first and secondly Kintsugi. I haven’t experienced Kintsugi yet but the notes and the beautiful bottle shure intrigue me tremendously. Thank you for allow me to participate in the draw. I’m commenting from Orlando, Fl. USA.

  • The Plum Girl says:

Thank you for reading and commenting! I hope you are safe and well, enjoying your perfumes: carpe diem, in all colors that might brighten up your days…Some of the perfumes I mentioned are rather new – like Pergola or Kintsugi, and the funny thing was that I returned to some beauties instantly, zap and whoa boy this is good, why did I forget to wear this or that? 😀

  • Loved this. Colors and scents are always intriguing together. And the piece doesn’t just touch on our current situation, Elena has captured what so many of us are experiencing. The descriptions of all of them appealed to me but I would particularly like to win the Etat Libre D’Orange Putains de Palaces. I am in KS, US.

  • For staying in I’m just using up sample vials that are nearly dry. The choices in the article seem very personal and I have no experience with any of them.
For this draw I choose the Exaltum. US

  • A beautiful description of perfumes to wear during quarantine. I have been wearing Guerlain Homme and I enjoyed reading Elenas favourites to reflect her mood. If I am successful I would love Putains des palaces. Thanks from the United Kingdom

  • A beautiful review by Elena intrigued by Kintsugi and the notes of Bergamot essential oil, Chinese magnolia essential oil, Savory amber, Golden suede, Centifolia rose Grasse absolute, Violet leaf absolute, Benzoin Siam, Raspberry leaf absolute, Patchouli Coeur, Vanilla absolute appeal to me most. If I am lucky to win I would love Putains des palaces. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • There’s melancholy in this article – we miss things, yeah, those we took for granted, but at least we are healthy and able to enjoy indoor wonders – such as perfumes.
Elena clearly misses the spring, you can see it in her fragrant choices. I think I’d go for the red lipstick in Putain des Palaces :).
Even if I am not going out, after one week of quarantine, I made peace with the situation and I’ve started using [heeey, talking about perfume] again.
    Living in Europe.

  • It’s always enjoyable to read what fragrance people wear and why.
I often find myself standing in front of my (still rather small) collection pondering what I’ll wear. I have a story for every bottle and I enjoy having a choice depending on a mood, the weather or whether I want to make a statement!

I enjoy Dior Homme Intense a lot and Putains de Palaces sounds like it has a similar ‘lipsticky’ scent. I’d like to enter the draw to win this for my partner.

    I live in the UK

  • vanillabean says:

Hello. I enjoyed reflecting on the many types of green that there are, from citrusy lime to vegetal chlorophyll. I’m more inclined to the vegetal and mossy greens myself. I would pick the Exalatatum, as i love hay notes. I’ve been spritzing Tea for Two and Sel Marin in the morning.

  • I really enjoyed how all of these perfumes seemingly evoked thoughts of spring to Elana however all seem very different from eachother. Also I like the idea that she is almost experiencing spring from indoors through wearing different perfumes and remembering. If I should win I would choose Neil Morris Fragrances Vision in White. It sounds really lovely and like something I need to experience. I also like that it was based on the photograph shown which it stated was sent to Neil by Michelyn. I live in CT USA and yes I have been wearing fragrances while staying home during quarantine. A lot of times I’ve been using samples and decants which has been nice. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • patrick_348 says:

Elena’s essay emphasized the fantasy element of perfume–and I think there is always a fantasy element to wearing fragrance. The COVID-19 situation has just created a different context for the fantasy and it was interesting to see how that was embodied in Elena’s writing. I would take Pergola, for sure. I have been wearing fragrance at home, and find it a great way to experiment with crazy layering combintations. I am in the US, in NC.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

Interesting how Elena is using fragrances to bring her through this tough time using the synesthesia of colors. I’ve been using many different designer fragrances from my collection during this time. If I were to win this giveaway, I would choose Pergola. Appreciate the opportunity for the giveaway! -Virginia, USA

  • Dubaiscents says:

I’ve also been having fun with my less worn scents during the quarantine, especially the classic green ones like Vol de Nuit. That’s why Pergola calls to me with it’s 50 shades of green and when I looked on the website I was immediately drawn to the combination of narcissus, tuberose and oakmoss. This is a must try! Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I love the color associations with these fragrances!!! I don’t particularly associate color with many perfumes so I love hearing about how others perceive it in Fragrance.

I would love to win the Putain des Palaces, État libre d’orange is a fascinating house and I love how unconventional so many of their compositions are.

In Canada. Thank you for this review!

  • I enjoyed your review and the accompanying photos. The Vision In White by Neil Morris sounds so uplifting, I’d love to try it. USA

  • Pandoraandperfume says:

What I found interesting about Elena’s choices was that I’m not familiar with any of them and so I enjoyed reading her descriptions. I would choose the Neil Morris fragrance. I’m from the United States.

  • Monica Beaton says:

Very beautiful review/read. I wear fragrance for myself – to change a mood, or enhance a mood, and the more I know about – not just the notes and the way a fragrance smells – but rather how it makes the wearer feel, the easier it is to make a choice. Neil Morris creates fragrances with feeling and attitude – something I love, and I’m grateful he and Cafleurebon are offering such a generous draw. Etat Libre D’Orange Paris also create fabulous fragrances (I’ve smelled and owned a few!), and I would love to try Exaltatum Perfume Pergola one day. Thank you all for a great read and a great draw!

  • raymondchau says:

For these quarantine days, the variety of fragrances I could use increase, and I often pick outdoor-ish fragrances, with lots of green and floral notes. It creates a sense of freedom in my mind, though actually myself is not as such. It must be an obvious choice for many people, as I concur with the list of fragrances picked in this post. Finding faraway frontier while constricted withing boundary.

For the draw, I would like to choose Vision in White, as I love floral, especially white floral notes in particular. I am in Ontario, Canada

  • danceforjoy says:

Fragrance has occupied a more prominent place in my quarantine than ever before in my life! Thank you, Elena, for bringing to light a few precious scents I had never explored. Kintsugi most caught my imagination in your description, with it’s floral and herbal mixture. Would love to get to try it sometime….

    New Hampshire

  • So happy to see this article today; it’s as though someone let light and air into my room. (I’m in the still cold and gray US Northeast.) Yes, I wear fragrance every day, even under lockdown — lately the otherworldly Oeilleres by Roberto Greco and O by IIUVO. Being a fan also of vintage chypres like Mitsuko and architectural green perfumes like Chanel no. 19, I am strongly drawn to Pergola, although Vision in White intrigues me too (and Neil Morris is a lovely man!). Thanks so much and hope all of you stay safe and well.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I enjoyed Elena’s thorough description and breakdown of each fragrance, giving excellent visuals for each one. And she had some very good Spring fragrance picks, especially the Kintsugi. But, alas, that’s not a part of the draw. So the one I would like is Exaltatum Perfume Pergola.

And once I get it, it will go into my daily fragrance rotation – on days I work, I wear sprays, since they project more. And on the days I’m home, I wear fragrance oils, since Its just me. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • doveskylark says:

It’s always refreshing to read how others are dealing with the quarantine. I found a lot of inspiration in Elena’s choices. I smiled at the Kintsugi Masque Milano selection because I have some kintsugi repair projects to do.
I am randomly choosing fragrances. I am wearing some sultry fragrances like Bandit at all hours just because why not? I also have a bunch of samples from mainstream houses that I probably would never wear, but I am enjoying them….again, why not?
    I would choose Pergola.
    I live in the USA.

  • The one I relate to the most is the lipstick smell. I look forward to the day I go back into work. I don’t wear any fragrances right now since they don’t spark the same joy they used to. USA

  • Nicoleta.Tomsa says:

The spring that did not exist! Thank you for your stories, Elena, I loved the way you paired colors and scents and these uncharted waters we all sail on right now. You made me look for my Putain de Palaces decant, and yes! that story about the forgotten bag hit home so hard! It’s like a line of before/after is already drawn in our minds, with all the nostalgia that comes with any *before. Don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad one. I would love to try Vision in White by Neil Morris. Sending love from Romania.

  • wallygator88 says:

My favorite bit from Elena’s review was the following lines
” Even though your body is in quarantine – your mind isn’t. So I let it focus on something else: creating new, good memories, fragrance-colored memories, glimpses of beauty, streaks of positivity, simple pleasures amped to the maximum:”

It gave my joy to read it and hope that things will get better again. Everydown is followed by an up.

I really enjoyed reading about the three perfumes that Elena chose and how she attributed colors to them. Isn’t it fascinating how we ascribe colors to scents?

Kintsugi and Pergola in particular were fascinating scents.

I’ve been wearing a lot of Caron Pour Un Homme and some it’s flankers because of it’s soothing influence.

    Regards from WI, USA

  • genmartini says:

Vision in White, by Neil Morris ~ peach, green tea, orris, just the thing to wear for a picnic or gardening in the flower beds. I’ve been wearing a different perfume every day during quarantine from a large library of samples, and some full bottles, I don’t think I have anything with a peach note… I’m curious how much of that component you can pick up on, I hope this perfume smells like I’m imagining, like a wonderful and fragrant Gewürztraminer. ~ Canada

  • Margarita K says:

Not just the quarantine, but also the persistent rainy whether makes me feel I’d miss the Spring of 2020 completely. I do wear fragrance every day while staying at home, and I usually go for Diorrisimo or some other green and light floral, or neroli based cologne. Today it’s Une Jardin Mediteranee.
I like Elena’s description of Pergola as : “soul-awakening fresh”. I’d love to win it and to bring the eternal spring spirit into my home. USA.

The thing that I truly love about the review is “Day X”. I think we’ve all lost count as it seems like this quarantine has been dragging for ages. I love Elena’s choices, but I was surprised by Putain des Palaces. Personally I don’t like the smell of a cosmetics drawer and it is somewhat off putting to my nose. The fragrance I would choose would be Exaltatum Perfume Pergola; I love green notes and I feel like they represent Spring time the best. Warm regards from Illinois, USA.

  • Neil Morris’s Vision in White sounds like a cheerful concoction, – honestly, the reference to the perfumes of yore is enough for me: I know I want to try it!

I’ve been wearing a lot of Dusita perfumes lately: Erawan mostly, but also Splendiris and le Pavillon d’Or. I just do my best and try to keep my spirits more or less high. Here’s hoping we all get through! Stay safe out there.

  • I liked all of Elenas choices and have even tried a few myself. I am still wearing fragrance at home and either try something new when I need to break the routine or go to a favorite when I need comfort. I would choose Vision in White by Neil Morris. I am in the USA.

  • I like Elena’s theme of creating new, good memories, with streaks of positivity during this unusual period. Vision in White perked my interest a lot given the description of it as a success in evoking vintage Guerlain perfumes. The 50 shades of green description of Pergola also intrigued me tremendously. Between the two I would pick Pergola given my preference for fougeres. And yes absolutely I have been wearing fragrances every day during this stay at home period, mostly the more challenging scents that no one except me seems to like. Thanks for the draw. Regards from the USA.

  • Yeah, who’s counting anymore? Elena’s perfume choices are good for different moods each day as we quarantine. It will surely lift one’s spirit up.
I’ll choose Etat Libre D’Orange Paris.
    I live in USA.

  • Very interesting choices!! I liked more description of Kintsugi by Vanina Muracciole / Masque Milano- ideal for a springtime- garden full of flowers with leathery and earthy undertones.
I am wearing several perfumes from By Kilian during “stay at home” or “Quarantine.
I would like to win Putains de Palaces.

  • Thank you for such visual evoking reviews. It’s so nice to imagine the beauty of spring outside of these walls 🙂 I have been comforting in the warmth of vanilla scents since spring here is still pretty cold and gloomy, but the description of retaking life in a fierce red lipstick is so appealing! I would love to try them all out, but specially the Putain Des Palaces…(what a name!). Please keep these reviews coming, I’m enjoying them so much!

  • Thank you Elena for this beautiful review of 4 different fragrances.

If I am lucky enough to win this draw, my first preference would be Putains de Palaces with the violets and musks, and also seductive, dark, leathery and animalic quality in the drydown – this sounds very lovely.

I like Pergola due to its its green, fresh uplifting vibe (green, fresh, spring-like, uplifting, rejuvenating).

Vision in White seems to be another happy fragrance with its florals (Elena’s comment was funny – “I don’t even need a dress now in Quarantine: Vision in White does the trick!”).

Kintsugi – this sounds like another delightful fragrance. I liked these words from Elena’s review describing Kintsugi – “The beauty of our own fragility, cracking open to reveal the sources of inner strength and resilience: forgiving, moving forward, rebounding, transitioning from broken to beautiful. Hope and acceptance, or as Masque Milano quotes: „Cherish the simple. Cherish the old. Do not hide your scars, show them with pride.“This hope and acceptance is what is needed in these trying times.

Don’t have one favorite fragrance during the quarantine but a multitude of them, depending on the mood and the environment – oud-based (Mancera, Montale (Honey Oud, Black Oud) offerings; Levantium by Penhaligon, Al Oudh, Tobacco Oud), fougere (Sartorial is my favorite from Penhaligon), etc. – I let intuition rather than logic guide me in the choice/s. Thanks for the wonderful draw – I am in the USA.

  • Despite the provocative name , I do speak French, Putain des Palaces is the one I’m interested in. I need to feel delightfully refined and elegant again, with all the working from home i almost forgot what the smell of cosmetic drawer is.
Of course just like Elena I’m craving my old life back, pre-…..
Fragrances I’ll never stop wearing, it’s not possible.
Thank you for the draw. I’m in USA

How refreshing it is to be reminded that “even though your body is in quarantine- your mind isn’t”! Masque Milano’s Kintsugi seemed particularly appropriate for spring given the gorgeous magnolias that are in bloom all over, and Vision in White sounds like it will be splendid in the summer heat, but Putain des Palaces sounds like the perfect quarantine fragrance- elegant and comforting, yet at the same time dark, animalic, seductive. These tend to be the kind of fragrances I adore the most, so I would choose Putain des Palaces if I win. I am in the US!

Time flies.

    Regards from Atlanta-GA

  • Dear Elena, your words go straight to my heart:”The beauty of our own fragility, cracking open to reveal the sources of inner strength and resilience: forgiving, moving forward, rebounding, transitioning from broken to beautiful.”
I’m trying very hard to stay positive and your article about being able to get some Beauty in fragragrances absolutely helpful!
It’s hard for me to choose which perfum I would like to win. Maybe something warm and positive. Thank you!

  • I feel for everyone that has been quarantined, it’s definitely not easy. Today is Day 33 of quarantine for me and I have lost both my jobs.

Like Elena, I too have been enjoying wearing my fragrances and allowing them to transport me out of the confines of my tiny apartment. Where I live, the weather is gradually becoming cooler with Autumn now in full-swing on my side of the world. I particularly loved how Elena’s perfume choices throughout her quarantine reflected her desire to be one with the outdoors, soaking up the glorious Spring-like weather. I hope for all of us this nightmare will be over soon.

I would love to win Neil Morris’ Vision in White. I had to postpone my wedding in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 restrictions. This fragrance sounds like something a bride could wear on her wedding day.

Fragrances I have worn during quarantine: Guy Laroche Clandestine, Perles de Lalique, Bois 1920 Notturno Fiorentino, Maison Rebatchi Feu Patchouli, Costume National 21 and Salvatore Ferragamo’s Tuscan Soul.

    I live in Melbourne, Australia.

  • Jack3Tlife says:

Elena’s review was very entertaining. She also described the fragrances wonderfully. Like most people who love a great fragrance during this quarantine I have been purchasing and wearing fragrances to uplift my spirits. I would love to win Putains de Palaces, California, USA

  • The Plum Girl says:

@Kathryn from Melbourne: Vision in White would be a lovely wedding scent! So sorry that yours was cancelled…May the new spring in Australia be a more favorable time for you!

  • WaltherP99 says:

I’ll share my thoughts on the one fragrance I know here , Kintsugi . Springtime appropriate it sure is, but modern I’m not so sure, feels more like a vintage one to me. I get mostly a floral fragrance, with predominantly “green” rose, but not just the petals but thorns, dirt, slightly resinous and fruity in the base. Patchouli and leather I barely get , but gasoline probably from the violet leaves, and ashtray I do . Forgiving? I don’t think so , Kintsugi is strong and powerful fragrance, with tenacious longevity. I like it, but it’s not for everyone. L’Attesa most could easily wear, Kintsugi you have to be really into fragrances to appreciate.
I need to check Parfume Exaltatum and more Neil Morris creations.
Putain des Palaces is my choice , thanks.
    Stuck in USA

  • I am absolutely wearing fragrances during this quarantine. Perfume is my daily medicine because it helps lift my mood. I need it more than ever right now. In fact, I will often re-spritz my fragrance a few times throughout the day to give me an emotional boost.

I really liked the description of all the fragrances but if I have to choose only one, it would be Vision in White, by Neil Morris/Neil Morris Fragrances.

    I live in the US.

  • petergigov says:

Just like Elena I’m really tired of the situation we’re living in. Grass is green, birds are singing and I’m sitting at home, and in the rare cases when I’m out I have to wear a mask that chokes me.
Putain des Palaces will be perfect.
At least crisis or not i have my fragrances with me , to keep me sane . I’m wearing Bijou Romantic at the moment again by Etat Libre d’Orange.

  • I really like how Elena edited the photo, which accompanies Kintsugi write-up. I find myself constantly looking at it trying to discern each textured layer of color. I am a paper-pushing essential worker and at my work we are mandated to wear mask. The mask prevents me from smelling what I am wearing. I figure there is no point wearing my niche and indie scents if I cannot smell them. So, for the past 2 weeks I have opted to wear a lot of my designer scents, which can be easily replaced or do not want to replace. Yesterday, I wore DKNY Summer 2016 for Men and later that night I wore Commodity Gin. Today I reached for Robert Graham Valour.

It is heating up here in California and the hills I hike are losing their lush green quality and it is starting to smell more like hay. I choose Exaltatum Pergola to remind me of the green scenery and smell I will long for. Here is the USA. Thank you for the giveaway.

  • Michael Prince says:

Elena, these are excellent perfume choices during quarantine. Vision in White sounds like a nice fruity floral fragrance that is perfect for spring. Pergola is a nice green fragrance which I have tried before. Etat Libre d’Orange Putain des Palaces sounds the most interesting to me and is what I would like to win. I always wear fragrances when I am at home even during quarantine. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • Uncle1979 says:

Living under quarantine is different for everyone. I do understand Elena for staining home , and not being able to use her makeup and lipsticks, but to me life is pretty much the same, as far as work is concerned. I’m a Pastry Chef, and own my own bakery and to my surprise we do have even more work than usual. People are ordering online, and we deliver the cakes, pies, croissants and so on ourselves.
I know 2 of the brands Elena mentioned Masque Milano and Etat Libre d’Orange , but Putain des Palaces and Kintsugi I have not smelled.
I’m picking up Putain des Palaces purely because I trust Etat Libre d’Orange, nothing against the other two.
Stay positive Elena. Fragrances I wear every day, nothing is changed.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • can very well relate to Elena thoughts and feelings about staying at home. I love my job, but for obvious reasons I can’t work at the barbershop 🙁 What drives me nuts is I can’t do my usual things I do on regular basis, playing basketball 3 times per week, going to the gym, bars and clubs , concerts aaaa. I’m a creature of habits , and the virus is getting on my nerves.
Putain Des Palaces I want to win, because of the makeup vibes it has .
As far as fragrances during quarantine, I even started changing my fragrance at least twice per day.

“The miracle of applying red lipstick: one of those little indulgences that can keep you going, with a feeling of strength, hope, and instant smile under my favorite matte intense red!”

Well I don’t wear lipstick, but I’m eager to go to some high end bar or club, or to a date with classy, smart lady with a dress and red lipstick. I’m used to going out every week…
Sure I’m wearing fragrances, every day. My scent of the day is Experimentum Crucis i had to smell, because of Despina AGAIN Lol glorifying it a few months back. After some hesitation I bought it. Suits me well, and it’s a beast . It’s stronger than most Montale fragrances, and my Remarkable People is so much weaker compared to it.
Putain des Palaces I would like to win. USA

  • Bubeto_GG says:

I know Putain des Palaces well, I had a small decant a few years back. Review was really spot on. Animalic part is real , and in my opinion should not be underestimated. There’s no actual animalics like castoreum or civet, but judging by the naughty history of Etat Libre d’Orange, I’m certain fragrances was created to smell a bit like sweaty women’s body. My husband used to say that Putain des Palaces smells like a women’s body after night out .
Lustfull frafrance , no doubt about it , count me in for it
We’re all deep into fragrance hobby here, I doubt anyone stopped using fragrances.
Oh I have to say nice pedicure 🙂
    Cheers from VA

I liked her thoughts towards The green world which smells so good after The rain: “their scent inhaled hungrily…”

  • I love a classic aldehydes floral which Elena’s review evoked beautifully so I would love to win the Neil Morris. I live in the UK. I’ve been wearing green perfumes mainly so far in lockdown. They make me feel like I’m outside!
