There are leather fragrances a plenty, but the new all-natural, vegan leather Rogue Perfumery L’Homme M.LaCroix is decidedly different. Before we get to Steven’s exclusive video interview with perfumer Manuel Cross, a few words on “leather.” Although there have been tinctures of leather, the fragrance of leather is actually constructed using different ingredients to create a ‘leather accord’. Leather perfumes often evoke places, such as Spain, France and Italy (Peau de’Espagne), Russia (Cuir de Russie) and Great Britain (Royal English Leather); some dating back to the 1700s. L’Homme M.LaCroix was inspired by people, specifically Manuel Cross’s descendants, “When I named my brand Rogue, it had a dual meaning. As an artisan perfumer, I dare to be different by going my own my way and Rogue also refers to my origin story. Two of my ancestors were driven from France and fled to Ireland in 1735. Generations of the Cross family quietly recounted stories about those “rogues” who engaged in nefarious smuggling activities, when they thought we kids weren’t listening. Rogue Perfumery L’Homme M.LaCroix is dedicated to Allen and Corneleius LaCroix. In keeping with the times, they lived in, I decided to work only with natural ingredients to create my first leather fragrance…”-Manuel Cross

Manuel Cross used only botanical ingredients and L’Homme M.LaCroix has excellent longevity and sillage as well as his signature vintage-vibe. It is the first leather-centric perfume for the brand and launched today, as I post, 12/1/22. Built on a chypre-base, L’Homme M.LaCroix is tarry and smoky, citrusy-green, balsamic, spicy, woody, mossy, gender-fluid and unmistakably Rogue.-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Petitgrain, Orange Blossom, Thyme, Geranium, Cassie Absolute, Vetiver, Orris, Cinnamon Leaf, Rose Absolute, Labdanum, Oakmoss, Birch Tar, Cedar, Patchouli, Tonka, Sandalwood

  • Michelyn! Steven! ❤️❤️❤️ It’s Big News at our house when Manny Cross releases a new fragrance!!! Can’t wait to experience this one! Leather is so perfect this time of year and I’m excited to know how Mr. Cross puts his artistic stamp on the accord! Thank you for the Amazing opportunity! USA ❤️

  • Hello again! Would love this one for my hubby. I appreciate all your hard work and generosity.
    I am from the US

I love me a leather fragrance as I always find them to be the most long lasting. Michelyn and Steven both mentioned this one comes also with a touch of citruses which will also make it wearable during the summer, I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

  • The unique, fascinating and absolutely stunning notes of this fragrance appeal to me. I live Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I never tried Rogue but I’d really love testing out L’Homme M.LaCroix.

  • I loved Stevens interview and how detailed he is when describing. Michelyn Always writes so vividly. Love it. Im from EU

  • This sounds great! I love’s reading Michelyn’s descriptors, “tarry … citrusey-green … balsamic … unmistakably Rogue” – such an intriguing blend of notes/experiences with that undeniable Rogue backbone. Manny sharing his vision for this fragrance was also very interesting, I love hearing that it was both an homage to his ancestors as well as serving as a representation of his brand going against the grain, so-to-speak. Steven’s interview revealed a lot about the construction of the fragrance and I’m happy that it seems to feel right at home in the Rogue lineup. As Steven said, Manny is a modern vintage master and I’m thrilled at the idea of another offering coming. I’m currently waiting on my Black Friday order from Manny as we speak, hoping he may have snuck a sample of this in there. Reading from here in North Carolina, USA.

  • John Michael says:

All natural vegan leather? TAKE MY MONEY PLEASE! I love how Manuel came up with the name Rouge. Very interesting & well done interview Steven! I live in Boston, Massachusetts here in the USA & whether win or lose, we all win thanks to Michelyn, Steven and Manuel’s introduction to this gem!

  • Michael Dienger says:

I am interested because of the creativity of Manuel’s creativity. I live in Mims Florida.

  • Oh boy, Steven always delivers great videos and this interview was so amazing. I love leathery fragrance and this one seems like what I need on my collection.
I also loved that this fragrance smells so natural and knowing that from the perfumer is just amazing.
    USA here.

  • David Santiago says:

Thank you for this opportunity. I’ve just recently become acquainted and in love with Manuel Cross’ perfumes: Vetifleur and Champs de Lunaires being my favorites. I’d be very interested in smelling this homage to the Cross family. It was through Steven’s interview that I ended up here. Thank you for the notes too! Seems like it would be a traditionally masculine scent, which I’d be honored to have and share. I live in Tampa, FL, USA. Thank you!

  • The first leather from Rogue! Count me in, especially as Michelyn mentions great longevity, and Manuel says in Steven’s video it’s a personal perfume. Love the story! I live in the EU.

  • I really enjoy hearing from Manuel himself in the video and reading about the various places leather can invoke. I also love the fact that it’s all natural. Rogue Perfumery does such wonderful work. I live in Missouri, USA.

  • What appeals to me?
    Everything about Rogue!
I own most of Manuel’s creations and for me every new frag is a must have. Absolutely love the style where good, old classic vibe is mixed with something new and unique to let it stand alone between others classics and don’t be another copy in the same time. If you think you’ve tried enough chypres or rose frags but haven’t tried Mousse Iluminee or Roseracto, think again ☺️
I’m from Poland and would love to win and add to my collection this little gem ☺️

  • Taleofarose says:

Always the story behind a perfume is what appeals to me after an original mix of classic ingredients. L’Homme, through the voices of Michelyn, Steven and Mr Cross himself, has captured my attention with both story and composition.

I live in Portugal, and I have not yet owned a Rogue perfume

  • Michelyn, your description of a tarry green leather fragrance definitely caught my attention. Steven and Manuel, thank you for the interview- I think my favourite part was when you pulled out the tiny bottles of test formulas and talked about them ending up all over the house! I also really enjoyed hearing the origin story of this fragrance, that really appealed to me. I haven’t yet tried any Rogue fragrances but I hope to, soon! Writing from the EU.

  • I had no idea that there often isn’t any leather in fragrances, but the smell is instead created by the perfumer’s own leather accord. Glad to hear that this has excellent sillage and longevity both. Excellent intro by the stellar Michelyn, as always. The interview conducted by Steven was fantastic and I found it very interesting. Would love to win a bottle of this brand new perfume from a house I have yet to try. Good luck everyone!

    I live in Sweden/EU.

  • What an interesting name, and I found it fascinating to learn how he came up with it. The notes of this perfume sound really interesting and I bet that they work beautifully in tandem to create a conconction that will be a otherworldly olfactory experience to me. Highly informative introduction by Michelyn, and Steven’s video was a lovely watch. I have not been blessed to smell anything from Rogue Perfumery yet, so would absolutely love to win a bottle of this.

I reside in Sweden, EU 🙂

Glad to see Manuel give tribute to his own history. Amazing introduction, Michelyn, I’m definately interested in this perfume. And Steven, thank you for conducting that interview with Manuel. Very interesting and I had that on in the background while I cleaned my house this morning.

    I live in the EU.

  • Still have never sniffed a Rogue Perfumery offering, but I love all things leather.
    Oklahoma USA

  • From Michelyn I learned only botanical ingredients in this perfume. From the video I learned that to Steven all Mr Cross’s creations smell natural. US

  • As Steven said Manuel definately has a cult following and I am part of those for sure. I saw a photo of the new fragrance on Rogue instagram and my heart jumped. I enjoyed the interview so much. I love the inspiration for this fragrance and learning about his ancestors and their journey to America.
I also agree that most of his fragrances smell all natural. This one being truly all natural and also a leather fragrance intrigues me a lot. I also liked learning about all of the notes from Michelin’s text and I’m especially intrigued to see how thyme and geranium combine with all of the notes and if I can smell any orris or is the leather very dominant in the composition. DO I have a favorite Rogue? Of course I do! It’s Mousse Illuminee. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Leather being my favourite note, I have been waiting for a leather scent with Rougue DNA for too long. Finally it is here! Thank you Michelyn and Steven for the insight! I am based in the UK.

  • Rafael Jugueta says:

I now understand why Mr. Manuel Cross named his perfume line “Rogue” because of the stories of his ancestors back in the day. Their history is both very intriguing and fascinating. I love leather-based fragrances and reading L’Homme M. LaCroix’s description evokes thoughts of all the other leather fragrances that I tried and loved. I smelled almost all of Rogue’s fragrances and I adore all of them. By far my favorite is the Chypre-Siam and Tuberose and Moss.

Reading the note breakdown of this new release from Rogue Perfumery I know that this is gonna be another great one from the brand. I live in Stockton, California

  • I love Rogue perfumery and I am a big fan of Manuel cross work.
Lovely review as usual for Michelyn, with lots of info on the notes and the origins. Also from the Redolessence chanel, great to listen to the chat with Manuel.
    My favourite is Moss illuminee

  • First, I like the bottle L’Homme M.LaCroix comes in. Michelyn’s introduction gave a nice historical background of L’Homme M.LaCroix and Steven’s video review with Manuel Cross expanded on that history. Love that it’s a leather perfume but totally vegan and natural, which, as Manuel explained, can be challenging. I liked how oakmoss represents the boats his ancestors used. Michelyn’s introduction, Manuel’s quote, Steven’s video interview, they all connected well together, like the perfume L’Homme M.LaCroix itself. I haven’t tried anything by this brand, but am truly intrigued. I am a Redolessence subscriber. Thanks for an excellent introduction, Michelyn, and a wonderful video review, Steven. Thanks also for a generous draw. I am from the USA.

  • I have not tried anything from Rogue Perfumery although I know it has a cult-like following. I am very excited about this, so please count me in. Thank you!

  • Loved how Michelyn prepares the readers with a short, yet extremely precise little description of the perfume and then Steven, especially in this video, really sinks into the details, not only about the perfume itself, but also about the house, the perfumer and the concept.
In particular, I find it particularly interesting that L’Homme M.LaCroix is an all natural perfume AND at the same time, it is a modern chypre. I think this junction can truly exalt the chypre genre to a new level.
I am unfortunately unfamiliar with Rogue Perfumery.
    Writing from the EU.

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

I loved Stevens interview. I love learning more about perfumers process. Michelyns review gets me excited to wear this in the summer with the citrus. I’ll try anything by rogue! I live in Indiana.

  • We all have a few rogues in our family tree. How great for Manuel Cross that he can trace his lineage back to 1735 to include these nefarious smugglers. A leather fragrance seems appropriate for the LaCroix brigands. Intriguing that he went the all natural route and it seems like there’s an abundance of citrus, herbs and spice to complement the leather, moss and wood. Favorite Rogue is Mousse Illuminee MD, USA.

  • I find it interesting that “Although there have been tinctures of leather, the fragrance of leather is actually constructed using different ingredients to create a ‘leather accord’”. And L’Homme M.LaCroix is all vegan. So interesting:)
Steven’s interview is great as always. Mr Manuel Cross seems to be a passionate inspired creator.
    Hugs from Romania

  • I love leather perfumes, an this one has such a great story! Thnaks both, Steven an Michelyn for recounting it.
    I’m in eu

  • I’m still fairly nee to collecting fragrances and I’m getting into more leather fragrances. Steven mentioned that this is a natural leather scent and some green elements. Michelyn Mentioned “ tarry and smoky, citrusy-green, balsamic, spicy, woody, and mossy”. This sounds like something just right for me, anything smoky I love.

    Indiana USA

  • Reading the article gives you the idea, but watching Steven interviewing Manuel, was like closing a circle.
The story behind the fragrance, the notes and ingredients used, would make L’Homme M.LaCroix a great success.

Manuel seems so humble, and methodical on his process that even says: it’s was learning curve.
I wish him success in his already great career.

I hope I can try his fragrance, and experience it in this fall/winter, and in the future.

    From Massachusetts.

  • What a great video from Stephen. Interesting to see Mr. Cross give an interview. I have sampled 4 or 5 from Rogue Perfumery over the years. This one sounds really incredible to me based off of the reviews. Thank you for the draw! In the US.

  • Very interested to try this. Leathers are a favorite. Michelyn–glad to hear that it has good longevity, as this is so often the problem with naturals. Steven–also surprised to hear that this is his first all-natural fragrance.

  • Fabulous Family story, enjoyed the interview on YouTube as well. Look forward to this as I had a MImosa tree near my first apartment and when it bloomed it was such a sweet magic in the air and would keep my windows open because it’s intoxicating. Leather and Mimosa, truly unique idea!

  • I’m a huge fan of Bon Monsieur, Chypre Siam and Tabac Vert. I would absolutely love to try this new one, sounds great, and I don’t have a good leather perfume.

  • Manuel seems to be such a knowledgeable and lovely chap, I’d love to have a cup of coffee with him. Michelyn’s introduction was an interesting read to say the least, especially the backstory of this new fragrance. Steven’s video interview with Manny was conducted so well and I gladly sat through the whole thing to learn new things about Manny himself and this new fragrance. I’d be ecstatic to win a bottle of this to add to my collection.

    I live in the EU.

  • Fabulous interview by Steven, it’s a joy to listen to him talk, and moreover, Manuel. Rogue is a great house and I love the Manny oakmoss signature in his fragrances. Lovely intro by Michelyn too.
    EU 🙂

  • Michelyn’s introduction was a great write-up and it made me curious to say the least to watch the video interview with Manuel Cross by Steven. I’m glad I did, not only because Manny seems to be a lovely fella to say the least, but because Rogue’s new fragrance seems to be the one for me. I’d love to have it in my collection.

    I reside in Sweden/EU.

  • AdventurousFox says:

Love the fact that the ingredients are all botanicals. Not an all-natural perfume/cosmetic freak at all, but I believe in today’s world with many aromachemicals and almost infinite possible combinations, it’s a challenge to create a great perfume with naturals only. Especially when people are used to longevity and projection of synthetic ingredients. Enjoyed hearing the origin story as well, and would love to gift this fragrance to my husband if I win it.

Greetings from Croatia, EU. I am subscribed to Steven’s YT channel!

  • I’ve always been a fan of Rogue and I’ve tried most of his creations (flora and fauna is my fav so far) and his new creation checks every box… leathery chypre (making it wearable in different climates)… great longevity and sillage… would love to smell Manuels interpretation of this genre.

    From Sweden

  • You had me at Birch Tar! I love so many of Mr Cross fragrances I found his line when Rogue was still on Etsy. I love vintage and I’m so thankful that he’s here with this type of craft.

  • A Rogue leather? Sign me up. From Michelyn intro I liked learning about how unless you tincture leather a perfumer makes an accord and that L’Homme M.LaCroix is all natural and vegan. From Steven’s video it was interesting to hear Manuel Cross talk about Cassie not smelling pretty

USA (wearing my sample of A’Oud Ancienne)

  • wallygator88 says:

THank you for the wonderful interview with Manny Steven! I loved listening to his process, his collection and just the inspiration for this fragrance smelling cassie absolute. It was col to hear that Manuel likes to work with Labadanum and Oakmoss

I liked reading about Michelyn’s review – it helped me tune into the inteview with Steven. I love Manuels take on these all natural chypres.

My favourite Rogue is Flora and Fauna

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I haven’t tried the last few Rogue Perfumery releases yet, but Manuel Cross’s perfumes are always impressive, and Mousse Illuminee is a favorite. I also like the concept behind his new leather fragrance, paying tribute to his ancestors. Michelyn’s description makes it sound wonderful and varied, combining a wide range of attributes into one natural design (“tarry and smoky, citrusy-green, balsamic, spicy, woody, mossy”)—great introduction. I also enjoyed Steven’s interview with Cross. Responding to Steven’s question about what inspired the fragrance, I thought Cross’s description of leather as a “rogue note” was interesting, what he thought of as his trademark (tree moss and labdanum), as was his description of how he sculpted the opening with citrus and mimosa flower, and generally found composing this fragrance to be challenging while “rethinking the structure of a fragrance.” It makes the results all the more impressive. Thank you both for the thoughtful introduction and interview.

I’m in the midwest, USA. My favorite Rogue Perfumery perfume is Mousse Illuminee, though I also love Fougere L’Aube.

  • So excited for the chance of trying this new release myself. The introduction by Michelyn was captivating and Steven’s video analysis was informative. Manny was very charming. I live in the EU.

  • Michelyn’s introduction captured my interest to say the least, while Steven’s video interview with the great Manuel Cross was a lovely listen while doing chores. Hopefully I can win and try out Rogue for the first time.

    Writing from Sweden, EU 🙂

  • Thank you for this oppurtunity! I’m very excited for the oppurtunity of trying this perfume, and moreover, brand for the first time. Michelyn’s introduction instantly captivated me while Steven with no hesitation took that to his advantage. I now crave some L´homme M.LaCroix in my colleciton.

    I live in the EU.

  • Nom de Guerre says:

Ooof, another good one! After trying Mousse Illuminee, I’m eager to see what else Manuel has up his sleeve, I’ve been on a leather binge lately. Thank you for the interview, Steven – it’s great to hear perfumers talk about their creations. Greetings from Riga, Latvia!

  • Hmm they both mention the refreshing citrus in this, which sounds like a beautiful tension with the warm leather. My favorite Rogue Perfumery is my Chypre – Siam. Unique, strong, regal.
    I am in California.

  • Omer Faruk Yigiter says:

    Hello there!
I bought the sample set last month. I liked all of them, but I was blown away by Mousse Illimunee. Wearing it for work since then and can not take enough of it. Well done! Way to go.

  • Andrei Artimon says:

All natural vegan leather? TAKE MY MONEY PLEASE! I love how Manuel came up with the name Rouge. Very interesting & well done interview Steven! I live in Boston, Massachusetts here in the USA & whether win or lose, we all win thanks to Michelyn, Steven and Manuel’s introduction to this gem.
    New York . Usa

  • THanks for the review Michelyn and Steven!

A new Rogue Perfumery release! I can’t believe I missed this, but I can always count on CaFleureBon to highlight his fantastic new releases!

With Leather fragrances I am always a little worried that this will be too animalic for me to feel comfortable in but Michelyn’s description where it is more of a Chypre-based Citrus-Green fragrance I feel much more at ease and look forward to trying this!
I’m also quite curious what Vegan Leather would smell like!

Steven’s interview with Manuel was great. They are both so knowledgable and passionate about fragrance that it makes the whole video a joy to watch. Perhaps Steven should look into podcasts with many more fragrance related topics! I’d be a loyal listener from day one!

Let’s face it. Any new release from Rogue Perfumery is a masterpiece. I absolutely love Mousse Illuminee and Bon Monsieur and knowing the brand a little bit, I am certain I will love this just as much!

    Greetings from the UK!

  • sephrenia300 says:

Wonderful introduction and interview! What appeals to me about Rogue Perfumery L’Homme M.LaCroix based on Michelyn’s Introduction is learning that the “Rogue” name comes from more than just Manuel’s defiance of IFRA regulations, but also his rogueish ancestors that were dashing smugglers and inspired L’Homme M.LaCroix’s dashing leather chypre.

What appeals to me about L’Homme M.LaCroix based on Steven’s interview is learning that he decided to challenge himself with this perfume by making it all natural, as the perfumes of the time of his ancestors M.LaCroix’s that inspired the scent were all natural. I agree with Steven that I was actually under the mistaken impression that all Mr. Cross’s other perfumes were already all natural, and I’m quite startled to learn that is not the case. It only goes to show his artistry and deftness with high quality ingredients and his subtle hand in using synthetics judiciously and only to enhance the natural ingredients.

I live in the US. My favorite Rogue perfume is definitely Derviche!

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

A leather scent with vegan aspect?

  • I love Michelyn’s description of the family story behind this – it adds to a great-sounding leather chypre (one of my favourite genres). And I love Steven’s enthusiasm in the interview. From Ireland.
