Montale Intense Cafe (Pierre Montale 2013): When Sebastian chose his perfect rose he kept in mind that many contemporary men think rose fragrances are thought of as feminine or too sweet. Never mind that men have been wearing Rose perfumes since antiquity. Even King Henry XIII, who chose the Tudor Rose as his symbol (and he had all those wives, most certainly not for his good looks but perhaps for his rose scent)! In fact Kings during the Middle Ages have historically wore rose perfumes and  their consorts orange water,

Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro (Yuri Gutsatz, 1976 / adapted by Maxence Moutte for its 2016 re-release): This high-quality, natural-smelling, dewy rose bouquet of touching purity is an excellent daytime choice for all lovers of the “queen of flowers". Initially named Rose Thé (Tea Rose), this is a scent that evokes the ideal rose garden, as perceived through the precious subjectivity of blissful memories. By no means, however, should this noble composition be regarded as a merely nostalgic rose fragrance; the timelessness of top-quality Bulgarian rose absolute, combined with the exhilarating greenness of blackcurrant buds, woody undertones and hints of lavender, clove and musk, elevate Rose Trocadéro to a – physically and spiritually – comforting scent of quiet, but confident sophistication.

Shalini Amorem Rose (Maurice Roucel, 2018): For his third collaboration with Shalini, Monsieur Roucel composed a deeply touching fragrant ode to “the greatest love stories" – and to Damask rose. The latter's natural properties of deep aroma, opulence and warmth are further enriched by a sensual amber accord, spiced up by saffron flowers, and given a mysterious aura by the use of smoky Mahogany woods. Lush, multi-layered, and dramatic, Amorem Rose is simply one of the most intriguing, and affecting, rose perfumes to have emerged in the last decade. The exceptional quality of the ingredients and the masterful, seamless blending elevate the scent to a potential future classic.

YSL Paris (Sophia Grojsman, 1983): By now an undisputed classic, Paris is still one of the most complex, sumptuous rose-based perfumes ever created. Yves Saint Laurent's vision was to pay a tribute to Paris, the city which embraced him, and to its women whom he admired so much, by creating a nostalgic – yet joyful – new fragrance based on roses; in his own words, the “old-fashioned, plump, slowly disappearing varieties, like in the exotic gardens of Marrakesh”. His vision was realized by a young Sophia Grojsman, who composed one of the most exuberant, lush and radiant florals: the rose (May and Damask) is the vibrating star of a bouquet that includes violet, mimosa, ylang-ylang, geranium, iris and mayflower, all warmed up by sandalwood, amber and musk. Just like Paris and the Parisiennes, the scent is at the same time modern and romantic, bold and tender, sensual and sophisticated, dynamic and sentimental. The essence of joie de vivre in a bottle, and a fragrant poem dedicated to women in full bloom.

  • Milky coffee and rose. . . . yes please! I’ve been working on my wishlist, and Montale’s Intense Cafe is on it. Sebastian Jara’s review had me thinking that this fragrance, as he mentioned, is a great choice to cuddle up with. Good luck to all! USA

  • Just Add Light says:

Intense Cafe definitely sounds the most appealing! Would love to win a bottle as my decant is drying up. Interestingly enough, I really enjoy layering it with Maurice Roucel’s Rochas Man from 1999, which merges its milky raspberry and lavender with the vanillic rose in Intense Cafe. Flavoured coffee heaven! USA.

  • Jesus Pagan Rosario says:

  • I didn’t think of Intense Cafe as a rose fragrance. I am moving and my sample is packed up darn it, I’d love to try it today after reading this review. I’ll have to try the YSL again, I see a lot of love for it on various blogs, but don’t remember being that impressed, but that was early in my fragrance journey. If I’m the lucky one, I’d love to win the Intense Cafe. Thanks for the chance. Really enjoying the tournament of roses. USa.

  • I would like to win the Shalini. This house is so well regarded on every perfume forum and I am very curious. I also know some of Maurice Roucel’s creations whom I love deeply, like Dans tes Bras, so I think that Shalini is also something special. I am in EU. Thanks!

  • I love the way Intense Cafe sounds. Sebastian does a great job describing the scent Milky coffee, rose, vanilla musk. It’s so cozy. I love that it’s his favorite Rose scent. Montale has so many fragrances this sounds like one I would definitely want to own. Thank you for having this giveaway.

  • Sebastian never, ever disappoints with his videos. He is very detailed, and informative. Every time I watch one of his videos, the first thing I wanna do is, get my nose on whatever fragrance he’s reviewing. This video is no exception. I have not smelled this particular fragrance, but I absolutely adore the house of Montale. I would love to be entered in the giveaway please , and thank you so much for the opportunity.

This tournament of roses is so much fun and it’s really getting me in a Valentine’s Day mood. All of the rose perfumes in this round sound lovely. but Shalini Amorem with its saffron, amber and mahogany wood notes really appeals to me. It just seems so elegant.
I would choose the Shalini travel spray.
    I live in the USA.

  • I am here because of Sebastian’s review of Montale’s Intense Cafe. The only coffee cologne I have now is Rochas Man. Would love to try another fragrance!

  • Monica Beaton says:

I have a bottle of Montale Intense Cafe and love it. It is so beautifully blended and balanced and a delight to wear year round. All of these delightful rose fragrances – thank you for an incredible round up of rosy romantic choices and beautifully written reviews. I have recently discovered the delight of the Taif rose, and hope to add more rose based scents to my wardrobe. I live in Australia.

  • I would love to win Montale’s “Intense Cafe”. I’m not very familiar with the other fragrance houses listed here. I’ve generally found that Montale’s fragrances have excellence performance and are very well blended. I’m a big sucker in general for a rose-oud fragrance, especially where the rose smells like a fresh garden flower. Cheers from NJ!

  • michaelprince83 says:

Montale’s Intense Cafe sounds like an amazing Rose, Cafe Latte, and Vanilla fragrance. The coziness factor sounds very plesant as well. If Sebastian says it is one of his favorite fragrances that means a lot. I will have to try to get a sample of this somewhere. Thanks for the giveaway and the excellent review.

  • The only one that captivated me is the Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro – the others sound like they would be too heavy for my liking. I live in Sweden (EU).

  • On this third day of the Tournament of Roses, I’d choose either Montale’s Intense Cafe or Le Jardin Retrouve’s Rose Trocadero. Both sounds very lovely rose scents. Thanks for this opportunity. – CA, USA

  • Shalini Amorem Rose appeals to me, not least because Maurice Roucel is one of my favorite perfumers. Dewy rose with an amber accord and saffron. Yum.

    I am in the US.

  • Great review from Sebastian. I have tried Intense cafe and yes it is a beautiful fragrance and long lasting. I would love to try The Shalini fragrance Amorem! Thank you for the chance. I live in the US.

  • I’ve been wondering about Shalini’s Amorem Rose since it came out. I love many of Maurice Roucel’s creations and rose is my favorite note in perfumes. Also love the first Shalini creations. So definitely would love to own this one. I live in EU. Thank you for this awesome roses draw.

  • Valentine Girl says:

I would choose Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro as the review stood out as a perfect day rose fragrance. USA resident.

  • I’m a sucker for coffee scents, so I would love the chance to win Montale Intense Cafe. USA (technically in Canada, but I have a US shipping address, thanks to living near the border)!

  • I recently purchased a few Montale fragrance samples (Aoud Forest, Starry Nights, Chocolate Greedy, and Intense Cafe. To be honest i’m not a huge fan of Montale Intense Cafe as much as I love rose scents and enjoyed the richness of the fragrance, I found it a bit to feminine for me. I would have preferred a stronger coffee note. The dry down though I thought was very enjoyable.

On the other hand. My 9 year old daughter, whom loves fragrances as much as I do, absolutely adores Intense Cafe. The other day she kept commenting on how great something smells. It turned out that it was on the sleeve of the sweater I was wearing while I was testing this fragrance. I gave her the sample and she won’t stop spraying it she said it’s her favorite of all the fragrances she has smelled. If I would happen to get lucky and be picked this bottle is going to her. I live in US. Thanks for the drawing and great review as usually Sebastian.

  • I love rose fragrances and I have had Montale Intense Cafe on my wishlist for months. I had seen Sebastian’s review of it a few months back and knew right away I had to add this to my collection. Fingers crossed. I REALLY want to win this perfume!
I live in the USA (PA)

  • the Shalini amorem rose seems the most interesting to me. I love my roses a bit more intense. Hope i get lucky and thanks for the drawing.
    i live in Germany

  • I would love to win and wear Shalini Amorem Rose. The combination of rose, amber, saffron, and smoky woods sounds intriguing, and it was composed by Maurice Roucel. I live in Californial.

  • I have and like a few Montales, but I never thought of trying Cafe Rose- yes because it did not sounds that the notes would go well together. I am now quite curious about it, as sweet, gourmand and comforting rose are a love of mine.

Of the three though, Shalini Amorem Rose sounds like an achingly beautiful one.

    I am in the USA.

  • Been hearing a lot of good about Intense Café so I’d like to win that. Shalini Amorem sounds good too. Haven’t tried any of these. Thanks
    U.S

  • Barbara Leigh Fox-Hajj-Houssien says:

Montale Instense Cafe was what I consider my rose “breakthrough” scent. I never gave rose a real chance. It seemed unapproachable and far too sophisticated for me, but this one is a warm hug with a strong back bone. It’s now on my full bottle short list, so I really appreciate this opportunity to win one. Thanks so much!!!

  • Roses are one of my favorite florals and this Tournament has me grinning from ear to ear. I am most intrigued by Intense Cafe and would love to add it to my collection. USA

  • I love the sound and story of Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro! I would love to try it. I live in the USA and would love to try this fragrance.

  • I’ve heard so much about Montale Intense Cafe, that this would be my choice if I were to win. But my second choice would be Shalini’s Amorem Rose, it sounds so enigmatic with such an insufficient description, but this makes me want to try it even more. Thanks once again for such a delightful giveaway! I’m in Oregon, USA.

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

All sounds great!!! From the list Le Jardin Retrouve Rose Trocadero and Shalini Amorem Rose appealing to me, being natural perfumes and Thanks to Jara for the video review that makes my mouth watering.
Thanks for the opportunity by letting my relative address in NY, US and for the 3rd part of Rose tournament. If I win my choices in sequence are:
    1. Le Jardin Retrouve Rose Trocadero
    2. Shalini’s Amorem Rose
    3. Montale Intense Cafe

  • Emanuel Ramirez says:

Awesome review as always. I have yet to try a Montale fragrance, this seems like a great one to step foot into this house with. If I were to win I’d pick Shalini’s Amorem Rose because the combination sounds interesting and I’d love to see what it smells like.

  • Wow so many great options! I am going for bold Shalini Amorem Rose because I love rose and wanna feel that intrigue that is in there. I live in Germany, thanks!

  • Hey y’all. I genuinely love watching the reviews on the Rose note Perfumes because I struggle with loving this note. I’m so addicted to the gourmand scents. I think Montale’s Intense Cafe might be a delicious way to marry the gourmand notes with rose. I watch all of Yana’s and Sebastian’s reviews on YouTube! I’m about to be “perfume poor” if I keep ordered more fragrances! Hahaha! I appreciate their reviews. I would love to win the Intense Cafe! Best of luck to all! Minden, LA.

  • Have a decant of Intense Cafe and would love a full bottle. I always appreciate Sebastian’s insights into fragrances. Here’s my list of choices…
    1. Montale Intense Cafe
    2. Le Jardin
    3. Shalini’s Amorem Rose
    I live in Calif, USA.

  • Barbar Fox-Hajj-Houssien says:

I have been longing for a FB of Montale Intense Cafe. I already make a post about how much I love this one, but I forgot to say, “I’m in the U.S.’ so I think it will be disqualified. Thanks for this opportunity and all that you do!

  • All sound amazing and hard to choose but based on the person above who stated that Shalini Amoren Roser is absolutely beautiful, i would choose that. That comment just jpulled me in.
Intense Cafe would be #2 choice.
Thanks for the giveaway and the Rose Tournament!
    I’m in the US.

  • Thank-You! Despina and Sebastian for all the descriptions but you know Sebastian I want Montale Cafe badly that sounds like my kinda not too rosy but darker. Scent. I do want to tryShalini still I’ve got it on my list of Decent’s to try. Still looking for my hg not “rosy” scent USA

  • They all sound good, but Intense Cafe is the most appealing choice on the list. Largely because of that milky coffee note paired with the rose. It sounds decadent. Rose is also delicious with coffee, as I’ve mixed rose water in my coffee pretty frequently.

Im in the US, in IL. Thanks for the draw

  • Sebastian’s review makes this rose/coffee fragrance an interesting one to add to my sample list. I cannot wait to try out Montale’s Intense Cafe. I’ve tried Honey Aoud in the past and know the type of powerhouse fragrances Montale is capable of releasing. Thanks for throwing this little Rose giveaway. Cheers from frigid CT.

  • Great review from Sebastian! I loved how he kept describing Intense Cafe as being very milky. I love that we get Roses, coffee, and cream with Montale’s Intense Cafe and this is the one that I would choose if I were lucky enough to win. My favorites from this house are Red Aoud and White Aoud. Thanks for the generous draw and I live in the US! 🙂

  • Dorian Fischer says:

Great review from Sebastian but since montale intense cafe is US only I would choose the Shalini one which sounds great as well! 🙂 from Vienna Austria

  • Great review from Sebastian. He really knows his fragrances and I love to own a bottle of Montale Intense Cafe in my life. I needs something special like that on Valentines Day XOXOXO sweet kisses and chocolate. I live in CA, USA.

  • I want Amorem Rose! I love Maurice Roucel, I would describe him as a subtle avantgardist, so I am definitely interested in trying his new concoction. Until I win this, I will spray some Dans Tea Bras or Musc Ravageur for good luck! 🙂 Pennsylvania, US.

  • Sebastian, you always have wonderful and addicting reviews. I have smelled Intense Cafe on someone before and I was absolutely blown away. I would love to have a full bottle of this stuff. I think it would be perfect for the Northern California weather. I need a cozy frag in my small (for now) collection. Nonetheless, I always look forward to your reviews. Thank you!

  • Love Sebastian review on Montale Intense Cafe. The milky coffee, vanilla rose sounds wonderful. Great article and review. Thank you
For this opportunity to win . Love r this for Valentine’s day.
    NYC

  • I would love to try the Shalini as I have read so much about it. Intenese Cafe sounds very interesting also. I can attest that the le Jardin is very beautiful as I’ve got some. Thanks for the great suggestions.

  • Love Sebastians reviews.I do follow his on Youtube and IG for a long-long time , sinse his old channel Man Loves Cologne.
On the same page with him about Intense Cafe – milky cofee with vanilla and musk.Fortunately i do get a lot of coffee , because some guys do not get coffee at all on their skin.
Montale is one of my favorite houses – atm i do own 10 100ml bottles , and i want at least 15 more. Montale’s portfolio is so vast ~150 , and it’s not posible to keep up with all they got.
As far as i know Intense Cafe is a bestseller … for a reason.
Sure i love rose and coffee , so i hope i’ll be able to win the tester bottle.
I follow all of you on IG
    Thank you for the draw.

  • If one of the best oficionados out there confidently saying Intense Cafe is a really great fragrance I have to check it out. Bought Vanilla Cake because of his review on Cafleurebon ~ 6 months back, and I’m LOVING it. Back then I was just a reader here , and now a subscriber. Coffee enthusiast here – love both the smell, and the taste plus as a student I was working as assistant florist, so I love the smell of roses too. I presume Intense Cafe will be a great addition to my relatively small collection:) The other two fragrances sound good too , but I’m into potent smells , it will be a dream to win the bottle. Thx to all involved in this amazing giveaway. Richmond Virginia

  • Bought so much fragrances because of Sebastian – mostly niche.
Late + rose + vanilla – mouthwatering delish
I’ve never sampled Intense Cafe , but i do own 3 Montale fragrances Chocolate Greedy , Oudmazing and Vanilla Extasy all full bottles.
    Great opportunity – thank you.

  • The notes of intense cafe seem to be an incredible combination for someone who wants to get cozy this Valentine’s Day. The rose and creamy coffee sounds beautiful rounded out with a white musk. As a fragrance lover in college, it’s tough to get my hands on these high end fragrances so I am going to try it out any way I can.

  • Rose Browning says:

Hi, would love to experience Montales Intense Cafe, it has some of my very favorite notes… rose and coffee !! I live in US Thank you
