Le Donne di Masque Petra and  Le Donne di Masque Dolceacqua

In 2009 Masque Milano’s Creative Directors Alessandro Bruno and Riccardo Tedeschi  composed their first two fragrances, named Petra and Dolceacqua, which debuted in April 2010. It was after their success in countries such as Italy and Russia,  that they decided to embark on their olfactive Operas. In the years between 2013 and 2019 such  successful scents such as Tango, Russian Tea, Mandala, (homage to) Hemingway L’Atessa, Kintsugi (to name just a few…) were priorities so they set Masque Milano Petra and Dolceacqua aside. Now, ten years later,  for the 10th year after their creation, they decided to reformulate Petra and Dolceacqua. On September 30th in Cannes the world will preview Le Donne di Masque, a new line of EdPs, which will pair the existing line of the Opera fragrances. Bottles will be the same of the Masque Milano line but the colours will be white and gold (boxes white with all text in gold; bottle will be glass satin with all the hardware in gold) Names of the noses will be displayed on the bottles and boxes.

Every fragrance will have the name of a woman or a city  (which also might be the name of a woman) but they  begin with Le Donne di Masque DolceAcqua and Le Donne di Masque Petra. Alessandro and Riccardo have made the decision that only female perfumers will be used for Le Donne di Masque perfumes.

The two noses appointed to create the new fragrances are Cécile Zarokian (the perfumer behind Tango, which was reviewed by Deputy Editor Tama Blough RIP) to create Le Donne di Masque Petra, and Delphine Thierry (nose behind Montecristo, beautifully reviewed by Sr. Contributor dana sandu here) to create Dolceacqua.

A mysterious scene… “On a morning from a Bogart movie. In a country where they turned back time. You go strolling in the crowd like Peter Lorrie, contemplating a crime. She comes out from the crowd in a silk dress running like a watercolor in the rain. These days – she says – I feel my life just like a river running through the Year of the Cat. On a blue tiled wall by the market stall there’s a hidden door she leads you to…

Nice, 8am: Sunshine and light traffic on the Promenade des Anglais. Here she comes, with the soft top down, and you jump in. As the road unwinds, the view of the gulf suddenly becomes amazing. Her colorful Hermes  scarf sweeps with the breeze and you breathe deeply to catch the rich mixture of cote d’azur flavours, in their magic blend of floreal and marine. She parks in a panoramic spot and draws out of the back of the car a basket with your breakfast. She doesn’t mind sitting on the ground, she bought her lovely dress at the market stalls for a few dollars and it is not worth worrying about. What a woman! – you think – she can match a few-dollar-dress with such an astonishing pearl necklace. You open a bottle of Beaujolais wine, and lean towards her to pour some wine into her glass. You can’t help stopping pouring wine and close your eyes, as you smell her perfume. So much in line with her, with her style: sweet and mellow, a mixture of flowers and fruit and some hints of vanilla at the bottom.”
