Kajal Fiddah Review (Christian Carbonnel/Chris Maurice) 2018 +Sweet Cherry Wine Draw

Kajal Fiddah review

Neringa holding Kajal Fiddah

“Her eyes and words are so icy

Oh but she burns

Like rum on the fire

Hot and fast and angry as she can be

I walk my days on a wire.

The way she shows me I’m hers and she is mine

Open hand or closed fist would be fine

Blood is rare and sweet as cherry wine….”

These lyrics by Hozier come to mind as Kajal Fiddah begins unfolding on my skin and I catch myself starting to hum the slow chords, lips stained burgundy-red…

Kajal FIDDAH Collection

Kajal, a Parisian niche house with strong Middle Eastern influence launched the Fiddah collection of five Eau de Parfums in 2017. Each is crafted from the finest precious raw materials, showcasing the luxurious design of heavy frosted bottles with brushed-silver caps and intricately detailed plaques bearing the names of each fragrance (Fiddah, from Arabic, translates to “silver”) and are signed by Christian Carbonnel aka Chris Maurice.  “The brand inspiration comes from the beauty world: kajal meaning kohl in the Indian culture – a natural product that protects and beautifies the eyes. Kajal also draws inspiration from the Arabic word khajal – modesty, humility and kindness in dealing with the people that surround us. Each are based on a personality and Kajal FIDDAH, the name to which this collection is based on, is for the warm and sensual romantic.”-note from the brand.

Kajal Fiddah opens as a rich mouthful of the finest Merlot, its black cherry flavours, tannins, and chocolatey finish slowly unfold on the palate. Intoxicatingly decadent, soft and mellow fruity murmurs give way to rich jewel tones of deep rubies and vivid garnets; and wisps of fruit-flavoured chewy, slightly spicy pipe tobacco is accompanied by a soupçon of anise speckled atop.

Smoking pipe via Amazon

The mélange of dark fruit, spices and tobacco notes takes the wearer to a British gentlemen’s club in Mayfair, dimly lit and decorated with dark luxurious leather-bound chairs, mahogany tables and walls fitted with dark wooden alcoves, where the scent of leather and woods pervade, where members quietly smoke cheroots and pipes, thick curls of cherry-flavoured tobacco filling the air, intermingling with boozy aromas of rum, whiskey and sweet liquor occasionally spilled onto the leather seats. Sensual, alluring darkness and intimate atmosphere collapse together in a gauzy soft cashmere-like embrace of boozy leather, pipe tobacco smoke, dusty spices and dried fruit sweetness. As Kajal Fiddah wears on, the sweet fruity tones grow quieter, the darker dry leathery nuances of tobacco unfold in slow ripples and, alongside the leather,  now take the centre stage. The undertones of lingering sweetness intermingle with musky-nuanced leather as  touches of spice blend with soft vanilla and benzoin to create a highly charged crescendo. Fiddah doesn’t travel through intricate twists and turns. It shifts on the skin in small degrees – the initial, luscious juicy ripe cherry fruitiness slowly ebbing and leaving a mix of sweet tobacco against the backdrop of spicy leather muskiness – sensual, enveloping and intensely erotic, all within a warm, golden embrace of  glowing amber.

Kajal Fiddah is both thrilling and dizzyingly sensual – like those first few sips of sweet cherry wine…

Official Notes:  Bergamot, Flower notes, Cinnamon, Anise, Fruity Notes, Leather , Tobacco, Amber, Musk, Vanilla, Benzoin, Tonka Beans

Other perceived notes: Cherry

Thank you for the draw and the review! I enjoyed it, and the last part with ‘Kajal Fiddah is both thrilling and dizzyingly sensual – like those first few sips of sweet cherry wine…’ was the cherry on top.

Really love the house , have many of they re offerings , would love to out my nose on this one , new york , usa .

  • Julesinrose says:

Ooh, I’m not familiar with this house and I enjoyed learning of their existence. Love fragrances that have a “strong Middle Eastern influence.” And would love to be transported to a gentlemen’s club that has that. Especially as I live in Maine, USA 😉

  • I love the description. I am a huge fan of Tobacco scents and have been looking for a cherry scent. This sounds luscious. In the USA.

  • I enjoyed the review because I lived in Mendoza, Argentina which is the Napa Valley of Argentina. Often when I sniffed wine , I would think, “oh I wish they would bottle this as a perfume”. Wine tasting and perfumery shares so many commonalities that I wondered why perfumers did not make wine fragrances. Now I know they do. Namaste from Texas

  • What I loved best about the review is how Neringa made it sound like a soft scent. Leather and tobacco are usually challenging for me, but this sounds like something I would really like to try. I am in New York.

  • I enjoy wearing unisex fragrances and Fiddah fits perfectly. The cherry tobacco and rum description sounds fantastic. And I absolutely love the frosted glass. Thanks for another fabulous draw! Mich USA

  • KMBfragrance says:

The cherry/tobacco/leather combination sounds divine. Also, Neringa’s writing is so luscious, she could probably describe a cleaning product (or worse), and I’d be intrigued. I haven’t yet tried any Kajal fragrances, but have heard great things about the house. I live in Missouri USA.

  • Wow what a beautiful description. Merlots have always been my favourite wines, cherries my favourite fruit, and tobacco one of my favourite fragrance accords. But the allusion to a british gentleman’s club is easily what resonates most with the deeper recesses of my personal identity (perhaps an existential corollary?). Lush, yet tanned and aged leather armchairs, polished mahogony card tables and the gentle crackle of a birchwood fire. The evening’s repose. I’ve heard that the anise can be pretty powerful in this one too. Loving the image from amazon too. lol Would you believe that I gifted my father the exact same pipe? Can’t wait to give this one a sniff. Cheerio! MI, USA

  • AleksCipri says:

What a lovely review and fragrance. I didn’t know much about the brand other than the fact that people like their fragrances a lot. So it was very fun reading the introduction about what the name of the brand means. As far as what I think of Kajal Fiddah….I love it. It has all of my favorite notes – boozy leather, pipe tobacco smoke, dusty spices. I need to try this. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Dubaiscents says:

Wow! This one sounds amazing. I love wine and tobacco scents and when you throw in cherry it gets even better. I haven’t tried any from this brand but, this really makes me want to. I love the caps! Thanks for the review and the draw. US

What I enjoyed most about this review is that Neringa has a way of enrapturing you with her words quite the way a fragrance can. I am often at a loss of my own when trying to describe just how her depiction of a fragrance can make me feel. Kajal is one of the very few houses that are so well enthralled in the community that I haven’t smelled but I do look forward to smelling their offerings in the future.

  • My grandfather used to smoke a tobacco pipe and sometimes had cherry tobacco so I could almost smell that very descriptive Gentleman’s club. That description really took me there, through my familiar senses. While I’ve heard of Kajal I haven’t had the pleasure of trying any but this sounds like the one I would really enjoy. I live in Indiana USA

  • Never tried Kajal Perfumes before-Fiddah’s notes make me wonder how it can resonate the song i’m humming now!Sweet cherry wine…Thanks from Romania!

  • ElenaChiss says:

I have never tried anything from the house of Kajal, but Fiddah sounds delicious! Please count me in. I am in the EU.

  • Chris Maurice / Christian Carbonnel has some great creations and I have tested quite a few made by him. I am sure this one is also a hit amongst the leather tobacco lovers.
    Thanks for the draw! Europe

Official Notes: Bergamot, Flower notes, Cinnamon, Anise, Fruity Notes, Leather , Tobacco, Amber, Musk, Vanilla, Benzoin, Tonka Beans. A beautiful piece by Neringa I am intrigued by frosted bottle design and the notes sound sumptuous especially tonka bean, leather, tobacco and amber all sound warm and cozy. I enjoyed the other perceived note of cherry. A house that I am familiar with my favourite being kajal pour homme. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

A house that I am familiar with but intrigued by Fiddah because of the Arabian and Indian connections. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • LorentzoP says:

Tobacco, fruits and strong anise is a very promising combination, probably resulting in a unique scent. I can relate to the luxurious wood/leather environment the article paints. This house seems to be receiving very good reviews and I definitely have to try their offerings. Greetings from Greece.

  • Love this house and I always love the smell of tobacco. My great grandfather used to smoke pipe tobacco maybe that reminds me a little bit of him! Thanks for the great review and the draw! Living in the EU

  • Bryant Worley says:

Well, firstly, I appreciated the meaning of “Fiddah” and “Kajal” being given, as it adds more understanding of the fragrance’s inspiration and background. And then there’s the thorough, mouthwatering breakdown of the notes, culminating in this:
“Fiddah doesn’t travel through intricate twists and turns.

Through YouTuber reviews, I am familiar with Kajal, and have a number of them that I want to sample in the future.

As a matter of fact, I will be receiving a decant of Kajal Dahab by Monday (my virgin foray into the world of Kajal). And I will be receiving this decant where I reside -Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • Derek Bedinghaus says:

Love the description & breakdown. I’ve heard of Kajal but haven’t tried them as of yet. I have been waiting for their discovery sets to be back in stock for quite some time.

As a Winemaker, I cannot resist the descriptors, spoken and written as the discovery of a fine deep, red wine. Neringa, if you ever want a career as a Sommelier or Winemaker do it.
I am drawn to several aspects of this creation, lush and delicious. Count me in, residing in SW France.

  • Thanks to Neringa for a beautiful description of Kajal Fiddah! I didn´t know of the brand until Sebastian reviewed Kajal Lamar last year, after that video I looked deeper in the brand. As a wine aficionado living in a wine country (Spain) , always wondered if it was possible to put all the aromas and flavours of a glass of wine in a perfume. So, as Neringa introduce us in a British gentlemen’s club, you can think of drinking that wine in a leather chair surrounded by old woods, make a perfect match that finishes filling the bowl of a pipe… in a “sensual, enveloping and intensely erotic” mode.
    I live in Spain, EU

  • The mix of dark fruits with tobacco that give the vibe of a British gentlemen club sounds really interesting.

So intrigued by this brand which is very difficult to find here in Milan – Italy. Love all the notes Bergamot, Flower notes, Cinnamon, Anise, Fruity Notes, Leather , Tobacco, Amber, Musk, Vanilla, Benzoin, Tonka Beans in particular the dry down sound incredible! Fingers crossed!

  • It’s the initial description that caught my eye — “ …a rich mouthful of the finest Merlot, its black cherry flavours, tannins, and chocolatey finish slowly unfold on the palate.” What a vivid description! I’ve only heard of Kajal Perfumes, but I haven’t had the chance to test any of them. I live in Italy.

  • IvanVelikov says:

Well we do have similar jobs, me and Fiddah 🙂
Very classy, very refined, very gentlemanly is what I think about it.
I tend to believe I’m that type of guy, Fiddah checks all the boxes.
Whoever designer Kajal hired for creating the design of the bottles , he, or she did astonishing work.
I have sample of Dahab I received in a FB group swap. Sweet juicy gourmand done really well . Smells natural to me, which is rare for gourmands.
Thank you Michelyn, Neringa Svobutaite and Kajal, such a great draw.

  • I loved the description of this dark, voluptuous, enveloping fragrance. The leather and tobacco aspects are very appealing, and I’d be curious to see how they work with the forest fruits. I haven’t tried any of the line’s creations but I am intrigued. In the USA.

  • Very interesting and informative review!
Reading description of imagine British gentlemen’s club in Mayfair I want this perfume, especially I love Kajal perfumes design. This perfume has a lot of my favourite notes.

  • Lamar is the only Kajal fragrance I know , it’s sweet, almost dripping fruity good.
Fiddah is still sweet, but different, more mature, nighttime fragrance , but just like Lamar it’s made for strong minded people.
Neringa Svobutaite take on it instantly reminded me of making, and later eating Chocolate moist Wine with glazed fruits , while sitting on a leather couch. Alcohol infused Cakes, pastries are a bit of a grey area in some States, most of the time I do such Cakes is for special occasions, or for take out only.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • Not familiar with Kajal perfumes. Given the notes and description in Neringa’s review of Kajal Fiddah, it seems it will be a wonderful perfume. It does seems that there are other similar perfumes out there with the same or similar notes so not sure how this one truly distinguishes itself. Bottle is beautiful and there is a great perfumer behind it, so I am sure it is good. Thanks for the review and a generous draw. Writing from the USA.

  • GennyLeigh says:

This sounds luscious. The leather, tobacco and cherry sounds like a luxe library with wood paneling and dripping in expensive furnishings. I can see the Middle Eastern vibe in the bottle design and choice of quality ingredients. I’m not familiar with Kajal Perfumes it would love to try this! Commenting from MD, USA.

  • I did enjoy this part, “Kajal Fiddah opens as a rich mouthful of the finest Merlot, its black cherry flavours, tannins, and chocolatey finish…”. I only heard about this house today. US

  • redwheelbarrow says:

Wow i need to try this one! This has everything I love in live and a fragrance. Booze, cherry tobacco, vanilla, spices. I haven’t had the opportunity to try this house and I don’t know how I haven’t heard of this particular fragrance because it sounds like exactly everything I love. Thank you for the review and the draw! I’m in the US.

  • ScentitarFragrance says:

I love that Neringa pointed out the middle eastern style and influence ! I think that talking about the style is a important way to understand the fragrance and a cherry boozy middle fragrance sound intoxicating ! The description of chewy has me very interested too. I have tried yasmina and it was excellent. USA, MS

  • wandering_nose says:

Thank you Neringa, a very appealing review here… The overall impression I am getting from her description of this fragrant creation is that there is not a person in this world that would be able to resist the power and charm of Fiddah. “Sensual, enveloping and intensely erotic” – what else would a 21st century seducer ask for in a concoction that accompanies them during bold and hedonistic nights of living the life out there? I haven’t had the chance to get to know Kajal perfumes though I have read about them extensively and am drawn to them. Commenting from the Republic of Ireland, EU

  • This was such an interesting and informative article. I now know the meaning of “Fiddah” and “Kajal” and it explains the fragrance’s inspiration.

Neringa’s detailed breakdown is simply mouthwatering. The paragraph about the ‘luscious juicy ripe cherry fruitiness slowly ebbing and leaving a mix of sweet tobacco against the backdrop of spicy leather muskiness’ reads like a piece of literature.

Cafleurebon introduced me to Kajal and I have tested Homme and Lamar so far. I ended up buying a bottle of Homme and look forward to adding more or their fragrances to my collection.

    Greetings from the UK.

  • Hashim Madani says:

Pipe tobacco smoke is one of my favorite scents and it has none of the unpleasant aromas in burning cigarettes and cigars. Decades ago, I recall relatives lighting up after laboriously working the pipe; cleaning it with special tools and rods, and meticulously filling in the correct amount of tobacco. All that labor goes up in a few puff’s worth of smoke and the process repeats itself. I distinctly remember cherry, vanilla, and other mesmerizing notes. Perhaps it’s not a coincidence that we see cherry in Fiddah; can’t wait to try it. Kajal Dahab, Yasmina, Jihan & Lamar are on my must sample list. VA, USA

  • When I look at Kajal bottles , and heavy metal caps, I’m like, such attention to detail is uncommon for quality $210 fragrance.
I’m a Barber , and i already wear Kajal Homme on almost all occasions,$185 well spent.
Fiddah is just a bit more expensive, but for formal occasions, i need upscale fragrances, obviously Neringa Svobutaite was impressed, price i think is well justified.
Like I said I own Kajal Homme , and I need to explore more , Fiddah and Kajal Homme II are the first two in my must try list.
Exquisite giveaway, thanks to Kajal and Neringa
    USA

  • Thank you for the lovely, evocative description. I am constantly in search of new tobacco scents and this ticks a lot of the boxes of what I am looking for. I have not yet had the change to try any Kajal fragrance but I will definitely look this one up. From Finland.

  • I see that Kajal is more and more present here, on the blog, and that is a great thing! It means that they have some special creations. I never tried anything from them, but I guess that Fiddah is a good starting point.
    Thank you from Europe!

  • Wow, I got chills reading Neringa’s review. Such a way with language! I’ve never owned anything by Kajal but I’ve sampled here and there. I would love for this fragrance to be my first bottle!

  • Even though wine, cherry and chocolate are not even listed among the notes, the fact that they can be perceived in the composition makes me think of Fiddah almost like an aphrodisiac concoction. Leather, musk and amber are also deep and highly sensual notes and even the mere look of the bottle makes me think of something powerful and dark, which of course sounds very attractive.
I am unfortunately only familiar with Kajal from Cafleurebon articles.
I am in the EU. Thanks!

  • Awesome review, I almost felt that taste of cherry wine. Beautifully written.
I never tried any of Kajal perfumes, though I have been eyeing them for a while. Would be happy to finally try it.

  • I like how it is described as sensual alluring darkness. Right up my alley. New to Kajal.
    Long Island NY

  • Beautiful pictures! They do seem to match the description of the fragrance! I have never tried anything by this house.

  • I enjoyed how Neringa set the stage with the atmosphere of rich scents like leather, wine, and pipe tobacco. It sounds like a very rich fragrance. I have not tried any from Kajal Perfumes Paris, but they sound great. I live in the USA.

  • I enjoyed how this conjures the image of a British gentlemen’s club, with enough extra details and twists to make it unexpected. I am not familiar with Kajal’s scents. (USA)

  • Thank you Neringa for the review and Kajal Perfumes for the kind giveaway. Fiddah sounds amazing from the review, I especially like the pairing of sweet tobacco with the spicy notes and anise in particular. I’m in USA

  • Neringa’s review of Kajal Fiddah sounds exactly what I’m currently looking for: a cherry, fruity scent that’s full of “dark” notes like leather or tobacco which are one of my favorite notes in a perfume.

This sounds like a very sensual, erotic, alluring scent that’s not kicking in doors but rather drawing people in that smell you.
It almost sounds like the perfect signature scent for a vampire, haha.

To this date I have unfortunately not smelled any Kajal perfumes, yet, as perfumeries in my area don’t list them.
I’d love to try them out someday!
I currently live in the EU, Germany.

I was so impressed by Sebastian review of Kajal Homme here , on Cafleurebon, and also his claims it’s “one of the best masculine fragrances on the market” . Sampled it , and bought it a few days after. Spectacular fragrance , must try for everyone.
Neringa Svobutaite Is hyping Fiddah really well . I miss the days of private high end gentleman’s club, the smell of pipe tobacco and aged alcohol. Fiddah sounds overly intriguing.
    Exciting giveaway , USA

Kajal is underrated house imo . I’ve smelled or sampled all , but the new copper looking Homme II. I would gladly wear all , but one. Yasmina is too indolic for me, with strong jasmine note.
If i have to rate my favorite 3:
1.Kajal Homme , versatile fragrance, pleasing and elegant .
2.Dahab , mouthwatering juicy fragrance. Very different compared to Homme , way more playful.
3.Fiddah, changeling one , depending on the weather. When it’s hot it’s sweeter Leather with jelly ranchers , but when it’s cold or raining I get also prominent mix of burning tobacco and ashtray.
Neringa Svobutaite review was a pleasure to read, still our opinion differs , but that’s normal.
Thanks a lot , just followed Neringa on Instagram, Cafleurebon and Kajal i follow for a long time.
USA only , hopefully not for long

  • Neringa welcome to Cafleurebon 🙂
So classy, so refined, so elegant , i think I can make a statement wearing Fiddah . Sophisticated fragrance at its best.
I know Joorie, because my sister in law owns it, but that’s the only Kajal scent I know. Spicy sweet rose ,with honey. I like it a lot.
    Generous giveaway, thanks

  • It was interesting to learn more about this company and this fragrance. I’ve certainly heard of this company, but I haven’t tried any of their releases yet. After having read from the review, I want to add this fragrance to my collection; it seems like it would be one of my highest quality fragrances. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • “Lady Boss” expression Michelyn used a few months back, is so stuck in my head 🙂 With all the booze , the tobacco, the leather, fruits and spices , it fits Fiddah and me really well . Picnic basket full of surprises.
From samples alone Dahab , and Lamar impressed me the most. Thank you all
Back and forth between USA and Scotland, 2 weeks in US -> 2 weeks is Scotland, and so on. Basically both USA and UK at the same time.
    Thank you all.

What I enjoyed about Neringa’s review of Kajal Fiddah is learning about the fragrance brand Kajal “The brand inspiration comes from the beauty world: kajal meaning kohl in the Indian culture – a natural product that protects and beautifies the eyes. Kajal also draws inspiration from the Arabic word khajal – modesty, humility and kindness in dealing with the people that surround us. Each are based on a personality and Kajal FIDDAH, the name to which this collection is based on, is for the warm and sensual romantic.”-note from the brand. This fragrance sounds perfect to me a fruity, spicy, tobacco, leathery, and ambery fragrance. I have heard so many good things about this fragrance house, but I have yet to try anything from them. I am from the USA.

  • This house sounds interesting and the notes for Fiddah look promising. I know Chris Maurice through his work at Xerjoff and he has talent. I am sure that the work he has done for this house is brilliant as well. I am in EU. Thanks.

  • Cherry tobacco is one of the most gorgeous smells ever. The sweet and sour fruit gets so much depth from the tobacco. I have never experienced a wine accord in perfumes, so I will have to check Fiddah out! It sounds luxurious. I live in Denmark, EU.

  • I love to hear how the notes of this fragrance evolves. Neringa’s review makes me nearly taste the fragrance — brilliant write up! I’ve never tried Kajal but I’ve heard great things. Thanks for the opportunity. USA
