Fragrance du Bois New York Intense Review (Pierre Constantin Gueros) + Scent of The City draw

Fragrance du Bois New York Intense by Redolessence©

Did you know that there are 62 counties in New York? But when most people think of New York, New York City comes to mind. As a native New Yorker born and raised in Brooklyn, I lived in Manhattan for most of my adult life….I am a New Yorker through and through. NYC is one of the most diverse cities in the world with almost 200 languages spoken throughout the five boroughs-Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan Queens and Staten Island. It is our neighborhoods, our residents, our music, our theaters, our architecture, musicians, our museums, our restaurants, our street fairs, our boutiques, our fragrance shops, our parks, pizza, pickles, beaches, and bagels; our kindness to out of towners that makes New York City one of the best cities on the planet. If not THE best.

New York  City has inspired many fragrances from brands throughout the world as well. Bond No 9, Nicolai Parfumeur-Createur New York Intense, Masque Milano Times Square, Kierin NYC, DKNY, Gallivant Brooklyn, Strangelove NYC, CM Macerations Christopher Street (there is a very important blog post Creative Director Doug Bender wrote PLEASE read it here), Le Labo Tuberouse 40 New York City Exclusive, Strada Parfumerie Fifth Avenue, Ulrich Lang New York, Fragrance Du Bois Fifth Avenue are just a few.

Perfumer Pierre Constantin Gueros (click this link for our interview), who lived in New York City for several years composed Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense in 2020. I asked him about the inspiration:

Pierre Constantin Gueros of Symrise composed Fragrance du Bois New York Intense

“Michelyn, you know I lived in New York City a few years ago and I used this personal reference to create Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense. The cliché is to describe as a noisy busy city but for me I was impressed by the classical architecture, the brownstones, the chic and elegance of the New Yorkers. I also loved the fact that Manhattan is facing the ocean and that in certain parts of the city you feel the marine smell. So I used a combination of the most exclusive amber and ambergris materials to translate the city vibe, rich woods for the nobility, ambergris for the ocean, ambroxan for the chic atmosphere. ” -Pierre Constantin Gueros, Perfumer with Symrise, 8/3/21

  • The fragrance presentation and stories behind it was really interesting for me. I really liked the professionalism in Steven’s review on YouTube. I’m from Poland, EU.

  • Michelyn’s review was excellent. She is so knowledgeable about NY perfumeries. Pierre’s comments were wonderful too. I am so curious to know how an architecture-inspired fragrance might smell. Also enjoyed Steven’s review greatly, his description of the notes is so vivid I could have sworn I could smell my screen! Never tried a Fragrance Du Bois perfume before. From NC, USA.

P.S. Lived in NYC for 5 years. I don’t know what I miss the most, but it certainly wasn’t the smells! The hot trash bags sitting in the sun all day was pretty much the opposite of perfume. I do miss the creativity and individuality of the people living there.

  • Sahara is my favorite FDB i have sniffed so far. Great oud and would really like to win something like for my collection as i only have some samples of FDB no full bottles. Cheers from TX

For someone for got to experience New York City multiple time. I am really excited to try it. It can be a significant change to try another perspective other than Bond no 9.

  • I liked the fact of the journey they all took and how they all lived in New York. I liked also how Redolessence was able to describe the fragrance. This fragrance sounds like a great one and the fact I once lived in New York and do visit the city when I can .

  • Richard Fritchman says:

I really enjoyed Michelyn and Pierre Gueros’ introduction along with Steven’s Video review I have yet to sample anything from the house but would really love to

  • Aaron Montgomery says:

I love Pierre’s description and admiration for the city of New York. I’ve never been to the city but his note breakdown personally creates intrigue for both his creation and the city itself.

  • Although I have yet to visit New York City, Michelyn’s introduction to set the stage for FDB’s fragrance of the same name was appreciated. I loved how Pierre’s creation drew inspiration from his experiences with the city’s ambience and exhibited them in a fragrance. Quite an interesting approach.
Steven’s videos have always held alot of weight in my purchase decisions as he approaches all reviews with technicality and clarity.
I have yet to try any products from Fragrance Du Bois but I hope this will be my first opportunity! All the best from Vancouver, BC Canada

  • I‘m actually really impressed by the way Pierre sees the city of New York. A lot of people would mention the skyscrapers or the Central Park but he was talking about chic architecture and it felt like it was the first time ever someone mentioned the ocean when it comes to New York… I‘m kinda wowed to be honest.

I really enjoyed Stevens review on this fragrance. I generally enjoy his reviews because he describes fragrances in such a way that I feel like I can smell them even though it‘s just a video I‘m watching. That is what he did in this video as well. He got me really excited for this fragrance because the way he described it, it was like he was talking about something that is so well done that it‘ll never be topped again. The blackberry and Oud combination also intrigued me so much so that I hope to get my nose on this fragrance.

I actually never been to New York but from what I heard and seen it‘s a city which will be hard to leave once I‘m there. I wanna enjoy everything New York has to offer and I really want to smell the things Pierre smelled and want to see every bit of New York to be able to let it influence me and many other to become a better version of myself!

I‘m from Cologne Germany and I have to say that I truly enjoyed this article and that I‘ll definitely come back to read more!

Excellent line of fragrances. I have tried Most samples before and had a friend who had a bottle of their latest drop. I have to say honestly that quality is top-notch. I would recommend it to anyone who loves excellent fragrances with great quality.-JoelOrtegaNYC

Lovely introductions! NY has this deep allure. It’s always so alive.

Steven is my favorite YouTube reviewer! So passionate and thorough in his reviews. It’s a treat to watch. Thanks for the draw. From USA.

  • I like how New York was featured in the intro and how well the smell was described by Steven.

Haven’t tried the brand before. Living in The Netherlands.

I love how walkable NY is.

  • Andrei Artimon says:

Really love the house and own many if they re offerings. I just have a decant of new york intense and it would be a dream come true if i would win this. New york, usa.

  • Connor Davis says:

Amazing how a fragrance can transport you to a place you’ve never been before. Not has the pleasure of experiencing a FDB yet. Hope to soon, maybe even in New York for our first ever visit!

Steven’s a legend. Love his content always.

  • Emmett McAfee says:

I never had the chance to smell any FDB fragrances but the way Steven explained it I would love to own a bottle. 1 day!!!

  • Jroark7101 says:

I’ve never been to NY but it has always had this allure and mystery to me. Perhaps this is why this fragrance draws me to it so much. Michelyn’s review was wonderful and it’s obvious how knowledgeable she is of the NY style. Pierre’s comments intrigues me, especially since I don’t know if I’ve smelled something so inspired by architecture. Steven has been on of the reviewers I have always came back to. I like to call him the “Professor” as his knowledge and experience is vast. Never tried a Fragrance Du Bois perfume before other than the demi collaboration and sample of NY 5th avenue, which completed amazed me! Thank you for the honor to be involved in this draw from OH, USA.

  • MATTHEW CROSS says:

This fragrance sounds beautiful! I adore myrrh and blackberries in fragrances, sounds utterly gorgeous

  • willchrisian says:

I found it fascinating that Pierre mentioned the marine smell of the city as an inspiration. I’ve never been to NYC so that’s not something that immediately comes to mind. It made me even more interested in visiting the city. I liked the way Steven described the resin and patchouli notes. I’m not usually the biggest fan of sweetness in fragrances because my skin amplifies those notes like crazy but this still sounded like something I would really enjoy. I’ve just started building my fragrance collection so I have never owned any Fragrance de Bois perfumes. I’ve been interested in them but because of the slightly higher prices and not being able to try them out I kinda put them on the list of things I’d like to explore in the future, after I’ve expanded my collection with the more readily available fragrances. Greetings from Serbia!

  • I’m from Texas I haven’t had the chance to go to New York, but with this fragrance I would like to smell Du Bois. thanks to your review and such spectacular fragrance I imagine an aroma that can only be found in this new york city.

  • realtyisme says:

The things to learn about New York seem to be never-ending. There is alway something new to learn and experience about the Big Apple.
I enjoy how Pierre has taken a creative and thoughtful approach on developing this beautiful fragrance…definitely not typical and I’m grateful for his insight.
While I live in Philly, NY is only a hop, skip, and jump up the NJ Turnpike. We’re up there regularly. In addition to enjoying the designer boutiques and artistic scene, we’re serious foodies and appreciate visiting some of the best restaurants in the world. Steven at Redolessence is truly one of my favorite reviewers, period. He is very clear, concise, and offers such insight into each and every fragrance he reviews. Whenever I am considering a new fragrance, I will be sure to get his angle on that scent. His presentation of this fragrance provided me with plenty of detail. Naturally, the notes and how they all interact are very important to me but performance is another top consideration and Steven appears to be spot on when sharing what he finds performance wise.
This one is a winner in all facets of what I look for in a fragrance. Thank you. USA

  • I haven’t smelled any FDB fragrances but Steven & Pierre are visionaries so I trust what Steven says and what Pierre puts together would love for New York Intense to be my first introduction
    Thank you

  • I loved the story behind it. So beautiful. What i liked about Stevens video is he is always so professional and articulate. I find his videos relaxing too under these stressful times.

  • Greg Graham says:

I didn’t realize that there are 62 counties in New York but I have always wanted to go someday. I really like the Marine notes of Manhattan that he mentioned and brownstone woods and Amber. Thank you for quality of your work and your kindness.

  • There is really no city like NYC. It helps that Pierre lived in NYC for few years so he could rely on personal experiences to create this scent that is dedicated to the city. Steven says the fragrance has effervescent opening and has a gourmandy drydown. The fragrance is nonlinear and is constantly evolving throughout its life. I have not smelled any from the brand yet. I am in US.

  • I never been to New York but judging about the combination of notes used for this perfume, it seems to combine elements of fun memories as well as scents of the city. Job well done Michelyn and Redolessence!

  • I didnt know NY had 64 counties. Although i am not from NY i do live in CT and I go to NY at least once a month. In fact i am going this saturday to the Van Gohg Museum. Everytime i go to NY is always an awesome experience and i would love to go smelling of a fragrance that was inspired by NY. This perfume house seems awesome amd I will definetly start to check it as soon as Im done writing this comment. Good luck everyone!

  • Loved the video with sweet myrrh and oud and Steven overall presentation always the best
From the opening I thought it was so interesting that Pierre Constantin Guerros was inspired by brownstones. I have visited NY and agree with Michelin that people are really nice. Anytime we got lost someone would show us how to get there. We ate at the best Vietnamese restaurant uptown called Saiguette. They don’t have places like this in my home town Columbus Ohio
I got a bunch of samples from Luckyscent including heritage and oud Jaune intense. I really like them

  • Thank you to Steven for explaining Opopanax! His description of Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense makes want to order a bottle now.

As for the article, the list of NY was super helpful. I’ve been wanting to do a perfume tour of NY for awhile.

NY state was home for half of my life. The city and state will always make me feel nostalgic.

  • 200 spoken languages? Whoa! Despite never having visited New York city myself, I’ve always had the impression that it would smell like stifling smog, hot metal and cigarette smoke. I’m glad that Pierre went in a different direction and emphasized the aspects of the city that reflect its coastal origins. A truly excellent array of notes. The instant Steven mentioned blackberry and incense, one of my favourite fragrances came to mind – Jubilation XXV. Great to hear that the patchouli is on the earthy side too. Me like. And with the stellar performance, it seems that FdB has another hit on their hands. I’m a fan of Oud Vert Intense! Perhaps it’s time to book a trip to New York? Regulations pending. LOL From Canada.

  • I like the idea of architecture as the inspiration for fragrance. I love New York. Brooklyn born and proud of it. I live in the United States. Thanks for the drawing.

  • jim sireika says:

The introductions were interesting. I like to understand the inspirations that drive people to create their art. Steven is an excellent review and ensures he expresses how it smells and how he experienced it.

I love NYC because it is the most vibrant city in the world.

Never tried a Fragrance du Bois perfume but they sound very high quality.

  • Donald Yelvington says:

Love the Idea of them combining accords to get the city vibes and ocean vibes. Love stevens description of tge fragrance. He always does a great job breaking down fragrances. I live in Georgia. I’ve always wanted to take a trip to New York City. I have not tried any fragrance du bois fragrances yet. Thank you for the giveaway

  • I enjoy how Pierre describes New York and how it all ties together with the fragrance and I love Stevens description and how he breaks down the notes in the fragrance and how it smells on skin. I have tried Sahraa Oud and Santal complete from fragrance du bois. I live in Central California.

  • IceWater00 says:

Wow, this makes me long to visit New York City again! I haven’t since I’ve become interested in this hobby, and being that I live in Indiana it so hard to access many of these scents to smell. So interesting though how he’s pulled from elements of the city which inspired the addition of notes to composition. It’s fascinating how the creative mind of a perfumer works.
Also, Steven’s reviews are always great. No reviewer verbally conveys the scent of a fragrance better than him in my opinion.
    Great piece! From Indiana, USA.

  • Koh Min Jie says:

I enjoyed how Michelyn’s introduction gave me a deeper insight as to why the fragrance was named as such and greatly complemented Pierre Gueros’ introduction into the inspiration of what he decided to make the fragrance smell like and his personal experiences. I enjoyed Steven’s review especially most when he gave a succinct summary of the smell of the fragrance which allowed me to get a better understanding and idea of what the smell is like.
I have smelt other Fragrance Du Bois fragrances before as they used to have a counter in my country which has sadly closed down. I have tried many like Oud Bleu Intense, Oud Noir Intense, Oud Jaune Intense, Sahraa Oud and loved them all for their smell and presentation. Would definitely love the chance to win this as the counter is closed and I cannot sample Fragrance Du Bois anymore in my country. I live in Singapore.

  • Roseylis69 says:

This sounds wonderful from the video.
I have sampled Santal Complet, New York.
    Love both!

  • My wife and I visited New York 12 years ago with our then 2 1/2 year old daughter, The thing that struck me the most about the city was it vibrancy. The was an energy in the air, the city felt ALIVE.

Every where we went, there was something to see, do or eat. We did take cabs, but we also did a LOT of walking. And just walking in the city is an experience in and of itself. We past by very old church buildings that were just astonishing to look at as well as amazing and iconic libraries and a plethora of other beautiful architecture.

We were on Times Square until 2:00 am and walked back to our hotel room 9 New York City blocks away and we were never once worried or afraid, if we needed ANYTHING at any hour of the day, we just had to go downstairs and everything was within a 1-2 block radius. This truly was the city that never sleeps.

Planning on headed my back out there this September for my daughter’s 15th birthday.
Can’t wait to take in the city again with my 2 daughters and wife.

I do love how Pierre dig deeper into New York than just the bustling crowds and noise, and tapped into it’s elegance and culture.

  • I could feel the love Michelyn and Pierre have for their home cities. I also appreciate Redolessence’s review because he is so thorough in his descriptions on every level. I love myrrh- it’s such a beautiful note and I wish it was used more in feminine leaning fragrances. The best part about this article though, was the link to the interview with Pierre. What an interesting life story! His perfumery career took him to many cities and he incorporated the influences into his perfumes. I really admire him. I recently discovered his Bouquet Encore from L’Orchestre Parfums and I am saving my pennies so I can buy a full bottle. It floored me with it’s beauty! I want to try NY Intense and Ambre Cello. I’ve never tried Fragrance Du Bois but I’ve heard a lot. TX USA

  • Jvazquez76 says:

I liked Pierre’s perspective and his finding the elegance in NY. I live in NJ but worked for years in Manhattan and Brooklyn… as some have mentioned, my recollection of NY scents might not match. However, I like how he tied everything together. Steven’s take on it was awesome as well, pointing out the melange of sweet nuances but powerful amber backbone. I don’t own any FdB but this has been on my radar. New Jersey.

  • Christopher Dorsett says:

I have never been to New York but would love to visit. What I like is the different phases it goes through with blackberry and the incense.I also love the presentation of the box and the bottle. It is a fragrance I would love to try. I never try Fragrance du Bois perfume before.I live in knoxville,TN.

  • Yes, Michelyn! NYC is the best city in the world! It is marvelous! It has everything, all energies. One can find anything to suit oneself – which is also what I like about Fragrance Du Bois. There are no rigid male/female categories for their scents, so one may search for what one likes. ❤️ Pierre Gueros must have discovered the best thing about NYC, the walking. It is true that certain places (and certain times) bring one quite nose-to-nose with the seafaring history & contemporary connections of the city. Not to mention how the city spreads out on vacation to nearby shores like Fisher’s Island, Fire Island, etc. Steven’s review is wonderful! From the sparkling opening to the gourmand notes and smooth oud, New York Intense sounds like an amazing fragrance! I would be so lucky to be able to experience this scent! Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity! USA

  • rachel wiener says:

As someone who is in love with NYC, moved to Brooklyn and rents part o of a brownstone I am super excited to smell this! I love how Michelyn highlights the incredible diversity that makes this such a special place and appreciate all the links to perfume resources here which I will detyake advantage of. I enjoyed hearing how Pierre was inspired by the sort to create the perfume. Steven describes the development beautifully and the fact that Myrrh is prominent which I love. I’ve never smelled this rand but am familiar with their gorgeous bottles. Brooklyn NY representing!

  • When we learn about NY we do not always go to the cultural aspect and hence what comes in mind are the sky scrappers and a new gen city. Bit thanks Pierre and Michelyn they have painted a wonderful picture of a different side of NY city. Its cutural aspect, diversity, architecture food and landscape. A city which has pletiful to offer and I am looking forward to FDB Neywork Intense as I hope it will have such multiple facets harmoniusly blended. A woodsy resounous pergume is right up my alley. Steven’s reviews and his in depth knowledge has always been inspiring and a treat.
I do own oud vert, oud blue and oud noir intense from the house and would love to smell this new creation.
    Iam from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

  • Always have and always will be drawn to Steven’s reviews of fragrances. He’s in a class all by himself so, truly. This fragrance sounds incredible to me. The mix of blackberry and incense really has me curious as I love both notes. I’ve only been to New York once and would love to go back some day because it truly is larger than life. Pierre’s thoughts on the best parts of New York that inspired this scent is pretty cool; it’s always special when a fragrance has a story behind it. Have never tried anything from this house but would love to so thanks for the opportunity! Cheers from Illinois!

  • The joint introduction set the stage for the fragrance, but Steven’s detail of the notes was great. I found the description of the myrrh and the underlying verdant notes most interesting. I nor my husband have yet tried a Fragrance du Bois, but would like to! NC USA

  • Interesting to hear about the architecture inspiration of New York in the introduction. I’ve never been there but currently reside in Minnesota. I have sampled it and I agree with Steven that the myrrh note is also my favorite aspect of this fragrance. I have tried many fragrances from this house, Santal complete being my favorite.

  • NYC is a mega city with diverse cultures, music, architecture and cuisine.
Pierre Constantine Gueros representing premium brand like Fragrance Du Bois, is looking at the city from upscale perspective, using the best ingredients, something to be expected.
I sampled two Fragrance Du Bois fragrances, New York Intense and Santal Complet, both are great , and after long consideration I end up buying Santal Complet.
To me New York Intense is spicy woody and fruity goodness, top tier fragrance. Smells similar to
Blackberry Cinnamon Tray Bake Cake , cake you can find in almost every bakery in NYC.
I agree with Steven about how it’s more for the colder weather, and the non-dirty oud and patchouli.
My favorite Santal Complet to me smells like… I’m eating Coconut Velvet Cake , while sitting on some vintage wooden table.
Appreciate Michelyn introduction, reading about Pierre Constantine Gueros inspirations , Steven review, and the giveaway campaign‍

One thing I have learned about fragrance du bois from all the fantastic reviews and having sampled a few scents they are the manifestation of pure quality!!

  • I liked learning in the intro that the inspiration for this comes from the perfumers time living in NYC himself. I loved Steven’s description. New York Intense sounds like a great scent especially for the cooler weather. Ive not tried any FdB perfumes yet. Thanks for the generous draw from the U.S.

The scent of a city represents for everyone the feelings in that city.

  • Dubaiscents says:

I was really fortunate to be able to sample so many from this gorgeous line at the Dubai branch of Jovoy where I immediately got Sahraa, my favorite. I am very behind on their new releases though and would love to smell NY. I enjoyed the back story from the perfumer and how he took some unusual points of reference for NYC like the ocean and brownstones. Thank you for the draw. US.

  • Kelly O'Neal says:

What I enjoy about Michelyn and Pierres’ introduction is the photos. I like how Stevens review is comprehensive. Thank you.

  • Wow! Reading all of this intro, description, the rich history of the state and city that saw my birth, gives me great pride to be one its own child. There’s no other city in the world like it . So much diversity
So much culture so much vibrancy and strength. The weather changes with its own Top , Middle and Base Notes that New Yorkers wear so well , like the notes of this issquisit fragrance . Steve’s interpretation is on point . I’m looking forward to add to my collection.

  • Michelyn’s introduction review is amazing she’s exceptionally knowledgeable about NY perfumeries and Pierre is very knowledgeable as well I really enjoyed how his life course led him to wear he is now very talented perfumer. And Steven he’s the best YouTube reviewer and such great example in the fragrance community. I’ve never tried any fragrances from this how I’ve heard nothing but exceptional things and hoping one day me and my wife can visit NYC. I currently live in Wichita Kansas.

  • I enjoyed Michelyn and Pierre Gueros’ personal outlook and history with New York city as well as how the fragrance encompasses many aspects that makes up New York city to be represented in this unique fragrance. Stevens video does a great job of highlighting the different notes in the fragrance, an in depth look at the bottle and the performance and versatility the fragrance can offer.

  • Michelyn’s review was right on point. Love her knowledge about NYC(Native New Yorker) and the perfumeries. Pierre’s review about NYC and how it influence his fragrance creation was interesting. NY Intense sounds wonderful. Steven’s review made me want to sample this fragrance. USA

  • Just by reading the perfumers words i was expecting to hear about marine notes from Stevens review. Hopefully the marine notes will not be prominent. hearing that it Dries down to oud with myre and that the patchouli is not dirty this has me excited.

  • Steven’s review was very detailed and made the fragrance sound very appealing. I love the diversity and beauty of the peoples you see in New York. I would really love to try this fragrance.

  • Patrick Alexander says:

Pierre’s concept about a fragrance that embodies the atmosphere of NYC is utterly intriguing. And Steven’s enthusiasm for the fragrance, despite his vast collection, makes me even more curious!

  • Amazing breakdown from Steven just from the notes it sounds something I would wear. Not to mention im from New York. This is a house I had my eyes on for a while since the name as of recent has been showing up for me while roaming into the world of niche fragrances. I would love to have my nose on this scent.

  • Martin Lehman says:

Pierre Constantin Gueros take on New York and how all the different smells of New York come together in this fragrance is very interesting. I’d love to try this scent.
Stephen from Redolessence does a great review of Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense. He is so good at conveying the different notes and how they come across in the fragrance. He’s great at what he does. I live in San Diego California and I’ve never tried anything from Fragrance Du Bois. Thank you!

True passion an love went into this fragrance an i can see it cant wait to smell it

  • Being new to thinking about fragrances, I thought it was interesting in the interview to think about “starting over” for the American market after learning your trade in Europe. The Redolessence review has me intrigued by mention the rose and this being a great fall./winter scent, which I would love to find a good one since it is mostly cool in Seattle, where I live.

  • cortneym417 says:

Pierre’s NYC real life experience living there will make the scent more authentic to a New York lover for sure. Steven’s video was fantastic as usual. He said its more of a fall/winter scent but I’d wear it on summer nights too!

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

Steven’s reviews are always so comprehensive. I really dig incense in fragrance and the combination with the fruity, berry notes sounds appealing. I’ve been to New York City a few times but don’t really have any scent memories. Being able to win this and go again would be interesting. Thanks for the opportunity to win this fragrance. Best from Virginia, USA!

  • Angel_of_Steel says:

I love that Pierre pulled inspiration from the city vibe, the nobility, the scenery (like the ocean), and the atmosphere and found those specific notes to correspond/represent each in his story. On Steven’s video I loved his explanation of his take on the evolution of the fragrance as it transitions from top (head) to heart and the explanation of Myrhh!

Sadly, I have yet to try a Fragrance du Bois perfume (but would love to). I live in Ontario, Canada.

  • Chris Bustard says:

I really enjoy ÇafleureBon and reviews by Steven. Getting to know a little about Pierre really makes me want to try this fragrance!

  • I’ve never been in New York or to the US, so I can’t relate. From outside my main idea from NYC is the architecture, so it’s interesting that Pierre emphasises this. Steven describes the overall complexity of this fragrance which really is linked to the city’s diversity, right? The only FdB I know so far is Oud Vert Intense, which I like because of the greenery. So I would love to win New York Intense to Switzerland, thanks for the draw!

  • NituNicolae says:

To me Bond no 9 describes perfectly what a New York scent should smell like. Never tried a Fragrance Du Bois so far. I love how Redolessence does reviews, so in depth and beautifully detailed. Thank you for the giveaway. I live in Romania, EU.

I fell in love with the article, as well as Pierre’s interview from 2016, with New York City and right now I am so intrigued to smell and have this perfume!
Thank you Michelyn for romanticising my childhood dream city; I wish one day I get to experience it, as well as I wish to experience this creation by Fragrance Du Bois, which to be fully honest, I hadn’t pay much attention to until I watched Steven’s review. Glad he mentioned sweet myrrh in a complex scent.

  • I have never tested any Fragance du Bois perfume before and i’m sure by Steven’s review this New York Intense is a complex, rich and very performant classy fragrance, i love all it’s notes and hope to win! From Romania with love! Thanks for the draw!

  • Ronald Abdool says:

Thank you for the opportunity. I never noticed the marine smell of the city. I will have to look for that on my next visit. I enjoyed that insight. I love all of the reviews from redolessence and I am a loyal, long-time subscriber. He is so articulate and brings the olfactory experience to life for the viewer.
I love Sahraa from FDB! I live in northern Virginia and enjoy that with the change of seasons, I can rotate my collection in accordance with the weather. I would be bored to tears if I only used one fragrance all year.

  • Kenneth Sears says:

I am made about incense and Steven’s comments about the opopinax intrigues me…intensely (pun intended). Also, having been born in the Bronx there is a sentimental draw as well! I didn’t grow up in NYC but thereabouts (LI, NJ) but because of my frequent visits there growing up, to see the grandparents, the writer’s reveries about the city resonate with me deeply! My home address now is in Frisco, TX, though I live most of my life overseas.

  • vladfrance95 says:

Steven is a professional reviewer, always followed him and trusted his reviews.
About the introduction of Pierre and Michelyn, i totally agree that the story behind an awsome parfum is to live the story by itself and create the magic simply, voth of them cool people.
    I live in France, Paris.

  • Michelyn and Pierre Gueros’ introduction painted a beautiful picture of the perfume and the story behind it. I have never been to New York, but I can imagine that the perfume would transport me there and tell the story of the city as the fragrance develops on the skin.

I really enjoyed Steven’s review where he described the balance between the bright effervescent notes in the opening and the long lasting resolute notes in the base of the perfume.

I haven’t tried any Fragrance du Bois perfume before, but I would love to.

    Thank you for the drawing!

  • Josh Tendai says:

Pierre’s childhood story is so similar to mine. Unfortunately it wasn’t seen as profitable to be an archaeologist in Zimbabwe and when you’re a gay boy making clothes for Barbies’ it was seen as an abnormality. I studied psychology at university as it was the only thing remotely artistic that could hopefully land me a job.

Its only when I started traveling that I embraced the interests around me that I was forced to hide. I started smelling things, buying fragrances and feeling more confident about myself!

Steven mentioned notes like myrhh, oud, orchid and immortelle. I have many fragrances with those notes but never one with them all together! Feels like an olfactory explosion! I love fragrances that transform…they remind me if myself…a rough hello and a warm hug at the end.

Last month (July) was my best friends birthday and I wanted to get her a fragrance. She loves Ajmal and I literally almost got her AJMAL Utopia II Pour Homme because of its robust nature. Unfortunately it was sold out and I got her something from Bogue Profumo.

I had no idea Pierre was involved! Pierre has sparked my curiosity …I need to smell more! Even if I’m not the lucky one I will be looking for Fragrance du Bois when I’m back in Amsterdam.

Thanks for introducing me to this amazing perfumer!

  • Michelyn, you know I lived in New York City a few years ago and I used this personal reference to create Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense. ” -Pierre Constantin Gueros, Perfumer with Symrise, 8/3/21. A beautiful description by the perfumer I am intrigued by the notes that Steven refers to especially a melange of incense, Agarwood, cinnamon, blackberry and amber sounds like a Gourmand lovers dream come true. A house that I have got no experience with I am afraid. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

It’s interesting how Pierre sees the New York. I think that most of us, when thinking about New York, one of the main characteristics that comes to mind is mighty, so I do expect from what I read for this perfume to kick a punch.
As well as Steven describes it, it seems quite nice and wearable at least for my taste. In general Fragrance du Bois creations appeal to me a lot. Would love to give this one a shot. From Bucharest-Romania

This brand is under-rated in my country and certainly one of my favorites. I love the Oud Orange, Cannabis Intense, and Milano fragrances from this line. Haven’t tried this particular fragrance as it’s not available in my area yet, but looking forward to trying it soon!

  • I am glad that they chose a perfumer who has actually lived in New York I think he captures all the intricacies to a tee. I loved Stephens review about the notes radiating of his skin. My favourite from this house is Sahraa oud without question. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Jmmcmenamin says:

Steven always does an excellent and thorough job describing a fragrance, so that you can almost imagine what it actually smells like. New York is the most vibrant and alive city, one that I try to visit annually, although it’s been a couple of years now, obviously, since I’ve been. I celebrated my 40th there, and it remains one of my favorite trips to date.
People forget that NY is by the ocean, and I love that Pierre included that marine accord in the fragrance.
I’m saving the wonderful link/list of NYC perfumeries for my next visit.
I look forward to learning more about Fragrance du Bois; I’m not very familiar outside of just the name recognition.
    In Louisiana, USA.

  • Steven Gavrielatos of Redolessence is always amazing describing perfumes. His way of delivering his thoughts and information about niche brands is so good. I always end up feeling intrigued, excited and sense of appreciation to the product/idea behind the perfume.
I love Fragrance du Bois brand. Unfortunately I don’t own any of their perfume yet, saving on “Oud Jaune intense” or “Oud orange intense” 🙂
I have visited New York few times, it’s one of my favourite cities. I feel the sense of freedom, to be what you want to be and who you actually are.. (if that makes sense). Michelyn Camen described it perfectly in the article what New York has to offer. Cant wait to smell “New York intense”.

    I live in Dubai, UAE.

  • Michelyn, it is so refreshing to hear your love for your city and Pierre’s thoughtful memories of his time in NY is so personal. It adds to my understanding of why he named it New York Intense. I appreciated Steven’s description of what kind of myrrh is in this fragrance as I have smelled bitter myrrh in fragrances and have been disappointed by the rubbery scent that I get as well. Sweet myrrh is beautiful. I also love that Steven mentioned that this fragrance evolves. That’s important to me. It’s like wearing a story and keeps me interested all day long.

I have certainly seen Fragrance Du Bois fragrance reviews online but have never smelled one. They seem very luxurious so I appreciate the chance to win one. Thank you. In the USA.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I really appreciated Michelyn doing such a good job in bringing back memories of my old stomping grounds, as I lived there for 46 years from birth (until 11 years ago).

I think Pierre did an excellent job in picking the right notes to highlight parts of New York, and hope I get this bottle.

If I win, this will be my 2nd FDB fragrance – my first was a few months ago with Fragrance du Bois NEW YORK 5TH AVENUE. To me, that fragrance was the truth…so help me fragrance gods! So, I look forward to getting my nose on Intense

As a former New Yorker, I loved all the things there was to do in New York. It was definitely (before Covid) the city that never sleeps, which I proved, quite often, by being out and about all times of the night (and early morning).

This former New Yorker now resides in Waldorf, Maryland, USA (only 250 miles from New York). No biggie!

  • I enjoy scents that evolve over the course of time as Steven mentions in his video, this sounds like one that would be quite interesting in that regard. From the intro, I think the reminder of the city’s proximity to the ocean is one that people don’t often think about, especially not being from that area. I’ve never tried a Fragrance du Bois perfume so this would be a first.

I am in North Carolina, US.

  • d3m0lici0n says:

Great description of NY which I’ve never been before, I’d like to go and spend a few days absorbing all the great things that city has to offer. Also I’ve never tried any of the Du Bois fragrances, I’ve been out of trying new things for a while. The video review makes me want to go out and try stuff again.
    I live in the US

  • I’m always interested about the story behind fragrances. The intend to portray certain athmosphere, feeling, place or point in time. There are few consepts that I find really appealing; fr exc. Amouages Renaissance collection, which portrays certain parts of Oman, Parfums MDCI Portraits Collection. City themed fragrances are one of my most favorite, since I love to travel and my fondest memories include the scents that are unique to the location.

Steven’s review have been staple for me since the start of my fragrance journey. I really like his style and taste for fragrances. Content is always top quality and well formed.

I have tried few Fragrance du Bois fragrances before; Oud Noir Intense, Oud Bleu Intense, Oud Orange Intense, Sahraa, London Oud, New York Fifth Avenue. Never owned a bottle. Top tier fragrance house! I would love to get my nose on New York Intense. According to Steven’s review, it’s right on my alley.

With best regards from Finland, EU

  • Interesting review by Steven. This house has many beautiful fragrances, but I have yet to try New York Intense.
    Thank you!

  • I definitely blind buy this..I’m a fan of the uniqueness and longevity. The fact that mur note being the dominate note makes it very interesting. Wearing it in the Fall/Winter time is great..because the coolness will amplify the notes. I will for sure be buying a decant of this.

  • I like that the perfumer included the ocean angle and as a native New Yorke myself I agree with her paragraph re: the city. I was interested most from the video the myrrh and vanilla aspect. I have not tried any offerings from this house. US

  • I enjoyed how detailed the review was and the different perspective that the article provided. As a college student I can say I would enjoy this. The thorough information provided by both Steven and Pierre kept drawing me in to the review. I am from The United States, good luck everyone!

  • emorandeira says:

I really wanna try the fragrance du Bois perfumes but I have no opportunity yet. Any time I read a new review I think… I should try It! Here, through the Pierre gueros and Michelyn introdction, I have discovered that the brand is grown un NYC inspired in all the different cultures you can find there and that has lot of sense and in the mix of things you can find there: chic ambience, nobility and the sea. In the Stevens review I have lernt that the fragrance new York is sweet, spicy and Exotic, and very long lasting, something that I LOVE always un a fragrance. I think the agarwood must give a medicinal vibe which must be very interesting.
I have never been un new your but what atract me the most is the mix of cultures that are in this City.

  • Monier Elmardi says:

I enjoyed reading Pierre’s reason and inspiration for creating this fragrance and what struck him about NYC. I also loved Steven’s review because it gave me a nice image of what this scent might smell like. I haven’t gotten the chance to try anything from Fragrance Du Bois but I’ve always been interested in the house. I’m a Philadelphia native and current resident but I’ve always liked how dense New York is.

  • Jere Veijalainen says:

I found interesting to learn how they became perfumers, what interest them in perfumery and the inspiration for the scent!
And with Stevens reviews, I always love how throughly he dissects the perfumes, so I can get a picture of what it smells like without even smelling it.
I have not yet tested any FDB, but hopefully I will soon!
I haven’t been in New York yet, but I love the vibrancy, the lights and city that lives 247!

  • I’m a huge fan of NYC as a place. Since moving to Oklahoma a couple decades ago, every time I’m in NY, I’m most struck by the speed of life there…and the wonderful diversity of people you encounter everywhere. I’m not sure I’d want to smell the way NYC smells, however. Luckily, it seems like Pierre Gueros, like most perfumers inspired by the city, takes a more metaphorical approach. I’m never experienced any Fragrance du Bois scents, but the note breakdown makes this one sounds wonderful. Steven’s video review’s emphasis on its versatility and wearability made it sound even better. I’d love to win a bottle. I’m in Oklahoma, USA. Thanks, as always, for the draw!

  • I need this fragrance in my life. After running through a sample it’s only increased my desire for a full bottle. I love the blackberry and incense combo!

  • Thank you for the introduction and the review.

I loved reading Pierre’s brief description of the scent and his reasons for choosing some of the ingredients. Michelyn isn’t wrong when the says New York inspired many fragrances around the world. It is an iconic city!

Steven’s review was interesting and comprehensive. I enjoy watching his videos and know when he highlights a fragrance, it is one I should try myself.

I haven’t tried any fragrances from Fragrance Du Bois before, but hope to win New York Intense to start with a new collection of fragrances from Fragrance Du Bios on my shelves. Those bottles are simply amazing!

    Greetings from the UK!

  • Steven’s videos are always detailed in a very technical way that allows me to understand the breakdown of notes and how they perform, you can really be a confident consumer! Michelyn and Pierre’s introductions create imagery that really gives you a sense of vibe the fragrance projects as a whole. I have never been to NYC but I can imagine how I would look and feel in this fragrance. (Feeling confident in a wool jacket and a badass boot on a fall day I like think). Coming to you from VT, US (p.s. I sampled Demi’s fragrance out of curiosity, ended up liking it!)

  • Zoran Loncarevic says:

Great review from Steven. The scent sounds fantastic. I was in this city once and immediately fell in love with it. There is an indescribable vibe in the air of the city and the people are super-cool. Many Thanks. I’m from Germany.

Mr. Pierre want to give New york a unique fragrance that reflects the city which is very nice to do. If you mix honey with vanilla and orchid sound like Tom Ford fragrance.I never tried any of du bois frag. I hope soon will do with this draw. I am in Sweden EU

  • Laurie Hicks says:

I think this combination of notes sounds absolutely amazing? I think cinnamon in fragrance is so sexy! Also glad to hear Steven say it lasts at least 10 hours on skin.

  • Michelyn’s description of New York is magic. I have never been to NY, not in the US, but this description makes me feel like I know everything she writes about. Sure, all the movies and TV series does their part. But also, somehow, it feels as if I used to live in NY, maybe in the previous life.
And it is nice to know what actually inspired Pierre to create this fragrance. I smelled it before, and now it makes so much more sense. This description made me see this perfume in different eyes.
Steven’s reviews are always nice to watch. I enjoy how he tells about the perfumes in-depth, and it is easier to imagine what to expect from the scent. It is nice.
I have tried many of FDB. Actually, this is one of my most favorite houses. However, I have not tried NY Intense yet, just New York 5th Avenue.
    I live in Lithuania, EU.

  • Beautiful presentation by both reviewer. Bringing in the surrounding to describe new york in a bottle have always help for haven’t seen new york. Unluckily i haven’t able to try out any Fragrance Du Bois scent. Living in texas usa

  • It is very obvious Steven and Michelyn love NYC. I have not tried anything from this house but a good incense scent is always on my radar. In maryland.

  • Frank Angeloni says:

I have smelled this bottle before and love the freshness this scent has for all seasons year round. Pierre did a great job with the mixture (top, base, and heart notes) within this fragrance. The reviews Steve did on this fragrance is truly amazing and i agree the reputation of the notes itself are amazing.

  • From Michelyn and Pierre’s introduction, I found very informative how the city is a source of inspiration to so many perfumes and perfume brands. I find fascinating how a creator can translate different aspects of a city into specific ingredients (like NYC chicness in this perfume is represented by ambroxan).
From Steven’s review I am intrigued by the way this perfume evolves through out the day. I really enjoy myrrh as a note.
I have never had the chance to smell a Fragrance du Bois perfume and would love to try this one as it represents my favorite city.
    I am from Spain, EU.

  • Michelyn’s introduction and interview of Pierre was helpful when Pierre talks about capturing the various facets of New York in Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense, it’s classical architecture, chic and elegance, closeness to the ocean, etc. Steven’s video described Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense very well, and the presentation of the perfume is indeed wonderful. The spicy, incense notes, especially myrrh and frankincense and oud make it quite lovely. It is true that mostly people don’t think first of New York, when thinking of perfumes (usually it is Paris), but perfumes such as Fragrance Du Bois New York Intense can showcase the greatness of New York, which gets overshadowed by the more mainstream caricatures of the city – loud, obnoxious, traffic, smelly, and so on, but not chic, elegant, beautiful, diverse, welcoming, etc. Loved Michelyn’s introduction and Steven’s review. Writing from the USA.

  • As I watched the video his description really peaked my interest. Kudos to his vivid take on it to really make the fragrance come alive. I’m intrigued to see how it holds up to the winters of colorado where I reside.

  • The architecture of New York is an inspiration for many mediums. I can see how a perfumer would look to iconic buildings for his compositions. Steve did a wonderful job describing the woods and amber of New York Intense. I’ve never tried any Fragrance Du Bois scents. I’m in MD, USA.

  • roxhas1cat says:

So many perfume shops in NYC, sadly my town only has 2 (not including Sephora, Nordstroms, Macy’s and Ulta……which really don’t “count”). Steve is someone I always check to see if he has reviewed a fragrance I am interested in…..awesome review as always. My favorite from Fragrance Du Bois is Parisian Oud and NY 5th avenue. Strangely I don’t love the ones that everyone raves about (Orange Oud Intense and Jaune). Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • 1. Love how he said in certain parts of the city (new York) you could feel the marine smell. Never heard of feeling a smell before. Very cool way of describing .

    2. I have not tried any of the Fragrance du Bois perfume before.

    3. Indianapolis, IN

  • Thank you Michelyn, Pierre and Steve for the intro review and giveaway. I found Pierre’s journey to perfumery quite interesting and it seems most perfumers took detours in their lives before landing in perfumery mostly seeming to be by a lucky stroke 🙂 I’ve enjoyed Steve’s reviews and channels going back to their collaborations with BFL 🙁 I also liked that Steve found New York Intense exotic and spicy sweet. I’ve tried Oud Vert Intense from Fragrance du Bois and I found it quite intoxicating and sophisticated. I’m in USA

  • I enjoyed Michelle’s interview with Pierre. I loved how he composed this fragrance to capture the essence of New York. In Steven’s review, I enjoyed how he delved into the fragrance’s scent profile and versatility. I’ve never tried any Fragrance du Bois perfumes before. I live in Illinois, too.

  • I learned a few factoids about New York that I didn’t know before. I do love anything with ambroxan or ambergris so even though I haven’t tried anything from the brand yet, this one is bound to be a winner.

  • I admire the passion for the city of New York, a place I’ve been to once before and was stunned by the vibrant atmosphere, I hope to be equally as stunned with what sounds to be a lovely fragrance as described by Steven.

  • sephrenia300 says:

What an educational post! As a long-time New Yorker, I can’t even begin to list all the reasons it’s the best place in the world. But I wouldn’t even think to consider including the fact that Manhattan is facing the ocean, so I found it very interesting that Pierre was inspired in part by that marine smell you can get promenading around South Street Seaport. I also found it interesting in Steven’s video review that he describes the myrrh note as being sweet rather than bitter or rubbery, and that he attributes this to the fact that opoponax is the type of myrrh used. Before watching this video, I did not realize that opoponax was a type of myrrh at all – I thought it was a completely different resin of it’s own – and that it is on the sweeter side.

I have not tried any of Fragrance du Bois’s perfumes before, and I live in the US – New York of course! I think what I love most about New York is how thriving and awake it is at all hours, always full of bustle and energy.

  • Michael Ambrosio says:

New York to means home, I grew up in Long Island and moved to Florida but think about NY often. Love everything about it, from beaches in Long Island to Skiing in upstate to night life of Manhattan. Not to mention sports. The smells of winery’s in LI to apple smells in upstate. I LOVE NEW YORK.

  • kingdomperfumes says:

I really enjoyed Michelyn talking about his upbringint and the different nuances of New York like the people, the restaurants, the shops, etc. New York is definitely a place that becomes a part of you and it really is an olfactive cacophony. I’m glad Pierre was able to spend some time in New York to pull from some of the imagery and experience. I was actually pretty surprised how no one mentioned that New York can be pungent sometimes I.e. the smell of subways, trash, sewage, smoke, etc. I enjoyed reading about a more glamorous experience of New York ahaha.

Stephen’s video was also really good. It’s nice to see the presentation and get his thoughts on the note breakdown. This will be a winter masterpiece for sure and I’m always appreciative of fragrances that are unique, that use real quality ingredients to add to the overall value. If I win I’d be humbled. I’d love to chat with Pierre and talk about his fragrance if I win.

  • I have not much experience with this house, but I did test five of them with my absolute favorite being Sahraa Oud. The quality is undeniable! If they say they have rare and old, aged ingredients, then you better believe them! This is a house that has stellar quality, is amongst the stars of the industry!
New York Intense sounds equally interesting as those I have already tried! Thank you!!!!

  • Marty_McDawg says:

I really enjoyed Pierres nod to the fact that NY faces the ocean so there is a marine/port feel to a place that isn’t often thought to have oceanic ties. It’s very true and obvious to anyone that visits. Also the fact that NY is so much more than just NYC.

In regards to Stevens review, he dissects and reallly break it down note by note, so the watcher gets a true sense of the fragrance.

I’ve tried several from the house, Oud Jaune, Milano, etc. and while I’m not yet sold on the brand as a whole, I am intrigued by the New York frags. NY Intense and 5th Avenue.

I adore NYC. It truly is a city of endless possibility. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

Hello! Thanks for the opportunity at the giveaway. I was born in Newburgh, NY. So I can appreciate everything in this article cause not only is NY so diverse but people always assume when I say I’m from NY that it’s one of the boroughs. Stevens channel is great, he always hits every point and does it with class. Thanks!

  • I appreciated the insight into a variety of different things about New York , as I’ve not been there it was great to learn a little about many things 🙂

Steven always does such a great job at describing a fragrance , not just the scent but also the textures and colours which gives such a great well rounded view of the scent.

I’ve tried the entire line from the house and they have many gems. Velvet amber and amber intense being my two favourites.

    I’m from Israel.

  • For far away, the Big Apple seems like an epitome of the place where you can be whatever you want to be while mandating to become the best version of yourself. I am intrigued, but not surprised that so many fragrance houses have drawn inspiration from the city that never sleeps. Michelyn’s expansive list of fragrances inspired by New York is admirable. Pierre Constantin Gueros’ evocation of the city that he transformed in the fragrance is captivating and as Steven stated make a beautiful fragrance. It consists of many notes that I heart, but some I am not familiar with or unaware of, but are an integral part of New York Intense, making the fragrance even more appealing. Steven’s description of the opening as beautifully citrusy and beautifully sweet had all my attention. But Steven’s description of the development and non-linearity of the fragrance won my heart.
Fragrance Du Bois has been on my radar for some time and I am sure that there will be an opportunity soon to explore the house.
Thanks for an informative review and a generous draw.

I liked the Michelyn did her research and gave us a lot of links with the interview, with NY City Perfumeries guide, etc.

I found it interesting that he talked about get lying a ocean smell and vibe in New York. No one I know that lives there or have been thinks talks about that. Very interested and smelling his fragrance and smelling his take on the city.

  • Kristian Santos says:

It is quite mindblowing how perfumers get their inspiration in creating such fragrances. Pierre is very artistic and personal as he describes the parts of New York and/ or characteristcs as it offers inspiration for the notes. From Manhattan facing the ocean for the marine note to ambroxan for the chic atmosphere. It is just wow. Eventhough I havent tried anything from the house, it made me feel luxurious and elegant just by looking at the bottles and hearing description from such great people like Steven.
Greetings from South Carolina USA! For me, Perfumery is the best form of art. <3

  • I liked Michelyn description about New York and perfumer inspiration about big and noisy city full of life and energy!
    Love Redolessence video-review!!
    Sounds delicious!
I am dream about FdB perfumes- have heard to many wonderful reviews, but never tested any.

  • Michelyn, your introduction really makes me want to visit New York again. I lived in the city for two years and profoundly miss the cultural diversity that makes NYC shine. It certainly is quite an inspirational muse for countless fragrances. I love how Pierre Guero decided to include the marine aspects of NY life. No matter what borough I was in, I can attest that every now and then the ocean would assert its presence in the breeze.

Steven did a very well done and rounded review of this fragrance. I love how he explains in depth the progression of the fragrance, especially waxing poetic regarding the bountiful, rich myrrh. Being a lover of such dark, sophisticated fragrances myself, it would be amazing to experience this creation by Pierre Guero. Fragrance du Bois perfumes I have experienced are Sahraa, Oud Violet Intense, Heritage, Parisian Oud, Oud Bleu Intense, and Patchouli Argent, although I have yet to own any.

Thanks so much for such a generous draw. I’m in Oregon, US.

  • It was exciting to read that both Michelyn and Pierre use wonderful words and ideas to describe New York, not only as a modern, “upbeat” mosaic of cultures, languages and styles, but also as as a manifestation of elegance, classical architecture and graceful diversity.
The fragrance also sounds very exciting in Steven’s description: quite unusual to have an opening of citrus+blackberries+myrrh, later evolving into a more vanillic, resinous, agarwoody patchouli. Cinnamon is also a very interesting choice in this context.
I have unfortunately never been to New York, but I would love to visit and I’m sure I’d love the Big Apple. In my profane and very cinematography-influenced idea, it should be a wonderfully active, diverse, exciting rollercoaster of a city, full of colour wherever one looks.
    I am in EU. Thanks!

Michelyn’s decriptin of NY make me want to visit. I find it fascinating that he still made the time to study the Ancient history no matter how successful he is! I have not tried Fragrance du Bois perfume before, and I live in FL. USA.

  • Great draw! I don’t know any fragrance from Fragrance du Bois, but after watching this review, I wouldn’t mind starting my exploration journey of this house with New York Intense.
    Thank you very much!

  • I actually never been in New York but Michelyn and Pierre descriptions make me to dream about that city of non-stop life, noise, cloudy streets.

Love Steven style of description- very detailed! I have never tried any FdB but this perfume sounds very beautiful dark woods, incense, blackberry.
I would love to win this beauty.

Never been to New York, but it never stopped me believing in its uniqueness mentioned. It feels you are apart of it, the ever inspiring depiction, be it from movies, songs, books and even perfumes. It opens up chapters of emotions every time. Even during challenging time ten years ago September.
The du Bois i know and tried is always strong, unique and takes time for you to understand before falling in love.
Like New York city itself, it takes ingredients from all around to make it what it is today. Truly a one of a kind place to stay and grew up in and a wonderment from afar.

How do you describe something like new york in a few hundred words or less. You perfumed it.

I was unaware that there are 62 counties in New York. I have only visited New York twice in my life and both of those trips were to Lake Placid. I do love the fact that Pierre went in a different direction with the perfume rather than what would be expected. I really like how Steven breaks the fragrance down and gives a play by play what to expect. I like that he mentions that it is anything but linear. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. I live in Hawaii USA.

The notes sound very good! I am curious about New York Intense as I have never tried anything from this house, but everywhere I read or hear about it, people have only praise words! Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I am in Romania, Europe so I qualify for the draw. Sorry and thank you again!

  • Fragrance Capital says:

Thanks, Michelyn for introducing this New York City-inspired fragrance. I love perfumes with sweet myrrh and oud. Steven’s presentation is wonderful as usual. I visited New York City many years ago, so I loved Pierre’s spirit and sense of New York City. His inspiration reminds me of those beautiful days and makes me feel that I missed seeing and many beautiful faces of New York especially the marine side. Great also to hear that the patchouli is on the earthy side too. I’m a big fan of Oud Vert Intense! So I’m glad that Pierre used it in representing the depth of this diverse international city. I hope to have Du Bois New York Intense. Greetings from Sarajevo, BiH

  • Michelyn Camen takes us on a whirlwind tour of the ascendancy of the accomplished perfumer, Pierre Gueros, and informs us how his aspirations from his youthful days were influenced to evolve into what is undoubtedly a masterly composition for Fragrance Du Bois.

Enriched by his associations with renown perfumers and exposed to the munificence of world’s cosmopolitan cities Pierre aptly creates the eponymous “New York Intense” from the very city that generated the excitement of his experiences.

As a life long New Yorker I was glad that Pierre relished in the same sights, food, character, culture, and pulse of the dynamic city where I reside. Indeed New York lives up to its reputation as the City that Never Sleeps.

Reading Michelyn’s sweeping carpet ride from one metropolis to another as Pierre imbibes the textures of each city, I’m reminded of Alexis de Tocqueville’s flattering observations in his discovery of America. Gueros’ tribute to New York by formulating “New York Intense” will be the exclamation point to that experience, and one I hope to try for the very first time from the eminent perfume house of Fragrance Du Bois.

Steven Gavrielatos does an exemplary review that encapsulates the olfactive results in a thoughtful and articulate manner.

Kudos to Michelyn, Pierre, Steven and Fragrance Du Bois!

  • I love how the review wove in a lot of the elements that make New York the city it is. The chic part resonated especially. So many chic people, my last trip I was marveling at chicly dressed children. Really, wee tots with artfully tied little scarves. You just know they are going to be those who appear effortlessly chic as adults.

Being from the midwest, it’s a bit overwhelming to be in Manhattan. We quickly adapted and learned you cross with the “herd” and not necessarily the light signal. I have stayed in some really cool places, The W Times Square, The London, and two other hotels not as memorable. New York is someplace I can always go back to, without hesitation. There is so much to see and do, I will never feel like I could skip a trip when the opportunity is there.

I have not tried any Fragrance du Bois perfume.

  • I have only seen New York thru movies, and imagining the scent that is inspired from its namesake makes me think of business due to wall street, the skyline, and the mixture of culture. I have yet to smell any fragrance du bois perfume, but I bet this is a good one bases on redolescence’s review. Love from the Philippines!

  • Love story behind this perfume: description of Michelyn and Pierre.
Steven is professional! He says the fragrance has effervescent opening and has a gourmandy drydown! Sounds amazing! I haven’t try any FdB fragrances.

I always enjoy Steven’s reviews, he explains the fragrances and the notes with such great simplicity and enthusiasm! I agree with Michelyn and Pierre Constantin Gueros, NY is so complex and multi-faceted, it must not be easy to create a perfume inspired by it but at the same time it sparkles fantasies and the will to bottle its uniqueness! New York Intense sounds amazing, like Steven I also love Myrrh and Olibanum and Fragrance du Bois is a great house! I own Siberian Rose and have sampled some of their fragrances, they are indeed unique. I’d love to be the lucky winner!! Greetings from Italy

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you the great review Steven.

I’ve heard a lot about this house and a fragrance inspired by the grand city of NY sounds wonderful. There are so many interesting notes that I would not have connected to NYC, but have been used in a wonderful way to convey the life of thi city – resins, myrrh, blackberry.

I loved learning about the things that Pierre enjoyed in NYC.

Michelyn’s intro was great – I had no idea that NY had 62 counties.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I haven’t tried this house yet, but Steven’s review makes this one sound like something I’d love. The myrrh sounds gorgeous! I also enjoyed the intro and all that love for New York. I found it interesting that perfumer’s description made this sound much less complex than Steven’s! I’m glad I watched the video to hear his take on it. I’m in the US.

  • wandering_nose says:

I am happy to have learned that Michelyn was born and bred in Brooklyn, that there are 200 languages sooken in NYC, and that there are 62 counties in the state of New York. As for the perfumer, I like how he reflected the key elements of the NYC vibe with the key notes he used. Steven’s review is super professional and thorough as always. I am sold on the notes of amber, incense, oud, patchouli and labdanum. The lasting power and the fact it’s a unisex perfume add to the wonderfulness. I haven’t had the chance to test any of the Fragrance du Bois creations so far. I love how multifaceted and open New York is. Thank you from Ireland, EU

  • Eric Kofoed says:

I enjoyed hearing about his pathway to become an amazing perfumer. How she has lived in New York all her life. Steve is always honest, and professional with just reviews. I’ve never tired fragrance du bois (been outside my price range). I live in Texas.

  • I haven’t tried any fragrance releases yet from this company, but I’d like to try all of them, especially this one. I like myrrh a lot and I like it that this fragrance is long-lasting. I want to win this one very much. I like an “earthy” patchouli scent, and in combination with incense, orange, blackberry, and more; I like the entire list of notes for this one. I think that Pierre Constantin Gueros’ intro. gave insight into this fragrance. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • I so enjoyed the linkage between a place and fragrance, perfumery is the only art that links both variables through the sense of smell, the descriptive elements of New York that were used to inspire such a wonderful fragrance was indeed what I liked about their introduction. I so loved the way Steven performed autopsy on the fragrance and with clarity as always. Made me went back and smell my sample and love it even more as it settles, such a beautiful composition. Fragrance du bois is within my top 5 favs with few of my favorite offerings such as Oud Jaune Intense, Sahraa Oud, Oud Vert Intense and Milano. In closing I so miss NewYork, I truly enjoy the liveliness of being in New York(time square) and my frequent trips to the different boutique to expand my fragrance horizon.

  • What I found interresting about Pierres intro was how his tarvels influenced his love for fragrance. Steven’s reviews are very informative while staying unbiased in his comments. I have watched him for 2 years now and look To his reviews to help me with new fragrance house introduction.

  • Like Michelyn said, NYC is truly diverse city, with so much to see, and visit, you’ll need months, and months. Restaurants and boutiques especially. Just like LA , the city unfortunately is managed badly for years now , undisputed fact, no native New Yorker would deny.
First time i saw , and smelled Fragrance Du Bois fragrances was at Jovoy Paris , as we all know the best niche boutique in the world, there’s no question about it. I later bought samples of the most impressive ones.
New York Intense is so opulent, so high-class, it’s on a different level. No doubt like Pierre Constantin Gueros said , only the best ingredients are sources for its making.
Hot Summer is not the right season for wearing such thick sweet fruity and spicy, balsamic fragrance , it’s too much in my opinion. From the video I saw Steven thinks the same way.
Santal Complet in my opinion in the best smelling Fragrance Du Bois , on my skin is really sweet, like a desert. Oddly enough , to me smells pretty similar to the famous Coconut Tres Leches.
Thanks for the top opportunity , and cheers with Blackberry Lemon Smash Cocktail

I love how this scent gives the vibes of NYC. Love the presentation and stories behind it was really interesting for me. I really like how knowledgable Steven is in his reviews on YouTube. I’m from PA, USA

  • I think New York Intense pays homages to the , full of life, joy and happiness part of NYC.
To Michelyn question, no I was not aware NY had 62 counties.
Blackberry, olibanum , patchouli, sweet myrrh and cinnamon , sounds fantastic. Refined and alluring upscale fragrance , the nose said it himself.
I’ve heard of course about Fragrance Du Bois, but I never had a chance to smell their perfumes.
    Thanks for the giveaway

I would love that city life it’s intense just like the perfume!!

  • Its on the other side of the world from where i am. New York. Long have i dreamt of staying and working here, even briefly, and
Du Bois bottles it perfectly. An interpretation of a celebrity city.

Oud certainly fits that frame, its famed nuance shining amongst the other notes and all the while the city’s prominent sky scrapers shades your steps and shields your gaze through its historical architecture.

Fragrance du Bois complex should be given time to explore and discover for its depth and beauty. Borrowing elements to make something new the fragrance is similar to its city. Each note reflects a favourite colour, or a warm memory, from counting down to the new year, marvelling at the fourth of July fireworks or even seeing the Rockefeller Christmas tree for the first time.

Its unique style is Golden Age Hollywood, modern day art, and timeless classical music combined.

This combination from near and far perfectly mirrors what New York city is like today. Like all Fragrance du Bois ive sampled, it was made to surprise and impress.

    Aisyah from Malaysia.

I’m well familiar with Fragrance Du Bois, smelled all their fragrances, excluding only the Attars, and the super hyped on Social Media Minuit Et Demi , collaboration with Demi Rawling , female YouTube reviewer.
NYC has a lot to offer to out of the city, or country visitors. Museums, parks, restaurants. The only thing I disagree with Michelyn is
“our kindness to out of towners”
Ever since I registered on Cafleurebon back in 2015 , I’m well aware how smart, well educated you are, true erudite, not to mention what you’re doing for the whole fragrance community , hats down . If you’re kind, and polite , that doesn’t mean most New Yorkers are , on the contrary for well over 10 years, each year, in the nationwide polls NYC is wildly considered the rudest city in US. If someone thinks I’m joking, or gets offended go to Google, and search for “What is the rudest city in the US ?” .
Back to the original topic. New York Intense is awesome, spicy , full , resinous and sweet. Oud is clean and subtle. In my opinion dressed up fragrance. My skin is super dry , and still performs for hours.
My favorite Fragrance Du Bois is Oud Orange Intense. Still have .. maybe 10ml left I’m my ~7 years old bottle.
    All profiles I already follow
Thanks a lot to Michelyn, Steven , Pierre Constantin Gueros and Fragrance Du Bois
USA only , not for long I hope

Everything about it screams luxury… The box, bottle the whole presentation!! A little citrus, some dark notes, patchouli, mer (My bf fav) The review makes you want to own it excellent video!! I’ve heard of FDBP before but never tried any!! From Cincy, Ohio. Never been to New York but it’s definitely on bucket list!! Good luck everyone & thanks Michelin, Pierre & Steven for introducing us to this fragrance & giveaway!!!

I think it is very interesting to hear how Pierre took the aspect of NYC and translated that into a fragrance.
I also thought Steven’s video was very informative about the fragrance notes and what to expect as someone who hasn’t smelled this before. I haven’t tried any of Fragrance du Bois’s perfumes before but would love a chance to check this one out. I’m located in St. Louis, MO

Last time i’ve been to NYC was … I don’t even remember, feels like ages ago. Manhattan never been to, Brooklyn is where I stayed for a month.
I remember the Di Fara and Grimaldi pizza places being the best in Brooklyn.
New York Intense i believe is fragrance with a strong character , filled up with the best of the best oud , blackberries, , patchouli, incense and other ingredients. Mild sweetness is always appreciated, if it’s not rotting tooth sweetness, thankfully it’s not. Cinnamon, orange and vanilla , i think will make a New York Intense a bit more livelier.
Without a doubt special occasions only perfume , you keep in your wardrobe, and use 3-4 times per year. Weddings, the opening of La Scala in Milano Italy, a date with a classy lady, on such occasions I would wear it.
It’s also interesting how the perfumer said the perfume is , at least partially inspired by the ocean, but Steven never mentioned ocean features.
Fragrance Du Bois I know by name only.
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA

As an immigrant I was determined to experience NYC not only from the airport but in person. I got a chance to do it for just one day to times in my life. So, I smirked when Pierre mentioned a cliche way of seeing NYC. Big, noisy city was definitely one of my impressions. But I loved a feeling of being consumed by the depth of that experience. Just like Pierre I enjoyed architecture and the whole vibe in a way a child experiences a candy store for the first time. And nostalgic bursts of memories flooded my brain with every word of Pierre’s description. That’s why I loved both of the first pictures that you guys decided to have in this article. The fact about 62 counties is crazy to me. Lol

I am fascinated how fragrances are able to bring you to places of familiarity and to relive past experiences. I have never tried FDB, but Steven made such a captivating summary of the scent that I had to check it out! Pierre’s passion for perfumery is immediately present in his inspiration for this creation. I’m very excited for this!
