Lucien Ferraro Par Amour par elle review

One of the most exciting debuts during the last edition of Esxence – The scent of excellence was Lucien Ferrero with his eponymous line. Unfortunately during the show I missed Monsieur Ferrero, but I was introduced to his beautiful works by his distributor Roberto Drago, who established two years ago PER FUMUM Torino, an amazing cultural event about perfume and olfactory culture.

It’s down there in Turin that I got to meet Lucien Ferrero as we both were lecturing for the Osmothèque Versailles about different historic topics: first his conference about Chypres, then it was my turn to talk about “The golden age of Italian perfumery”. Meanwhile we had some time to talk about his creations. For who’s not familiar with his name,  Lucien Ferrero spent many years in Grasse with perfumers like Jean-Claude Ellena, and Jean-Claude Gigodot and  signed over 50.000 formulas for Expressions Parfumées,  some of which were produced and the others are part of the company’s library.

After couple of years I left Expressions Parfumées, Roberto convinced me to get back to the lab and compose for myself. After almost 40 years I was tired of creating with many constraints, budget, marketing etc. I still had so many unexpressed ideas that when Roberto gave me carte blanche, I couldn’t be more happy”.

Lucien was so happy” added Roberto Drago, who’s also the founder of Laboratorio Olfattivo for which Lucien Ferrero signed also two new creations in the Masters Collection. This cannot make me happier given the result is a trio of beautiful perfumes expressing timeless French refinement with a pinch of up-to-date sparkle. All the three creations were extraordinary,  I chose to review Par Amour pour Elle, a fragrance Lucien Ferrero created for his wife (trust me I was lucky enough to smell it on this elegant lady and was totally smitten).

Lucien Ferraro Par Amour pour Elle review

Pentax Calendar by Guy Bourdin, 1980

Described as a love hymn to women, Lucien Ferrero Par Amour pour Elle is an amazing green floral unexpectedly opening with the crispness of neroli and dewy hyacinth boosted by the sulphurous juiciness of blackcurrant buds that renders the uber-chic bittersweet trail worth of Guy Bourdin’s early Queens blushed by Heidi Morawetz. The blooming heart is precious, but never pretentious and the opulent white florals keep away from prosaic fruits and cream, balanced by the powdery piquancy of dianthus and tuberose’s poisonous greenness.

Best fragrances at esxence 2019

Dalida wearing a fringe dress for her disco-show, 1979

This bouquet echoes the leathery flesh of Casablanca lilies and you swear you smelled this golden girl in another life in the late 1970s sharing the dry champagne glamour of predecessors like Jean-Claude Ellena’s Van Cleef & Arpels First and the Scherrer fragrant debut by IFF perfumer Josette Ramisse. She’s classy as ever and modern thanks to a mysterious balmy sandalwood sweeping away the mustiness and the aldehydes hairdos and lending a more androgynous oriental vibe that makes it wearable also by adventurous guys. She’s not the average wishi-washy girl looking for comfort gourmands and approval, she’s the independent woman you won’t forget. It’s Dalida dressed in a Scherrer silver sequins gown, singing and dancing the best of the French disco-hits in her Italian accent, but remixed by Cerrone to an electro-house hit filling the dance floors. And the boys echo “Laissez moi créer”, ops, danser I mean…

Top notes: neroli, wild hyacinth, Bulgarian rose essence, blackcurrant buds; Heart notes: Sweet William, orange blossom absolute, Indian Jasmine absolute, ylang-ylang; Base notes: tuberose absolute, white musks, labdanum resinoid, sandalwood, myrrh resinoid

Disclosure: This review was based on a sample of Lucien Ferrero Par Amour pour Elle received from Kaon, Lucien Ferrero distributor during Esxence.  Par Amour pour Elle has good longevity but never  is overpowering with an average sillage.

  • it is always interesting to see what someone comes up with when their imagination is allowed to reign. (Commenting from FL, USA)

  • I remember reading about the master series from Gail’s review for lavattorio Olfattivo. I clicked through and was intrigued. I think they both sound great but I googled the Italian and love lilac

  • Par Amour Pour Elle sounds divine! Anyone who knows me has witnessed my love affair with every rare and precious variety of Oriental Lily in existence. Not to mention my constant hunt for extraordinary Green floral fragrances woven from the rare and entrancing facets of oriental lilies. Casa Blanca lilies own a very special place in my garden … and my heart. It sounds like Par Amour may well be the exquisitely balanced Lily scent I’ve dreamed of for so very long — one that showcases Lily’s pure and chaste qualities while refusing to wholly obliterate their oh so grippingly sensual facets. Especially since Par Amour Pour Elle is the creation of talents who Ermano tells us have abilities that are nothing less than “signature worthy of Jean Kerlèo’s most exquisitely enduring creations for Jean Patou”. Can’t wait to experience a masterclass achievement that by all accounts may well become a beacon of excellence! One I truly hope will be an object lesson to all niche Perfumers who’ve lately scurried away inside all the recent ‘safe’ trends. Trends that will be utterly forgotten well before the present season ends. I’d love to own this one. Based in the USA.

  • This sounds so interesting I would live to try it. That note list is impressive too.

Thank you for the chance, USA

  • Par Amour sounds amazing. I love tuberose, neroli, ylang and white/heavy florals in general. Would love to sample. From Eu.

  • I like perfumes “green floral”, I love Des fleurs et des Flammes by Antonio Alessandria, a true love. I like the lily in Lys Méditerranée by Frederic Malle and Lilac Lilas Exquis by Jacques Fath, I would like to try white Seringa.I like the white flowers sweet and wise and not obscene. I like the bambino song of dalida.I live in France.

  • I enjoyed the homage to women and the classic , yet modern approach to these fragrances. I love looking at the notes and love the balance of light woods Nd soft florals. Overall these sound very nice. I also love the friendship shown in the photos. I am a USA resident

  • This was a beautiful review on a fragrance that seems feminine and complex. I love the parallel drawn with the artist Dalida, dressed in her sequin gown. I appreciate the opportunity to win. I live in the USA.

  • How freeing that must feel for Lucien to finally create the fragrances of his dreams!
The notes of Lucien Ferraro Par Amour pour Elle sounds so amazing with the opening of freshness with neroli, combined with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and then drying down to an earthy, spiciness. It sounds gorgeous!

  • Dubaiscents says:

I love the story about how Lucien spent so much time with Expressions Perfumerie and was only convinced to work again when he had complete control of what he could do. I wish more perfumers had this freedom. It is so sweet that this scent is made in honor of his wife. How could it be bad when it is made for your true love? I would love to smell this and the others in this line. Thank you for the chance. I live in the US.

  • doveskylark says:

What a bouquet of flowers this one has! I just love hyacinth notes. I love the image of Dalida. That sparky gown is so glamorous! It reminded me to wear my Scherrer 2 perfume.
