Yesterday some of the team wrote about our picks for Valentine’s Day Fragrances 2021. We continue with Part 2 of our Valentine’s Day Fragrances 2021. Each perfume helps us feel closer, more in touch, connected and of course a little sexier with each spray whether we are spending February 14th alone or with a loved one.

Drunk On The Moon (Charna Ethier): I could go for a little louche this year for St. Valentine’s Day – I’ll freely admit it. In lockdown times while we’re still sorting out influenza from Covid, it can feel like somewhat-post-holiday-withdrawal doldrums time. Restaurants are hit-or-miss, everyone has already devoured a lifetime’s worth of chocolate and sweeties. Flowers are gorgeous – but so many from the florists lack fragrance woefully, these days – and watching them fade is trauma, frankly. Most of us have enough jewelry. You can never/always go astray with a good perfume on your side (or your cleavage, nape, pulse points, behind your knees!). This year, go big or go home – and wear Charna Ethier’s ultra-decadent swanny, boozy tuberose snuggled into sandalwood. Olfactory silk velvet, this: a heavenly tuberose finds herself feather-tickled by that mischievous nutmeg, tantalized by ripe peach tones and wooed by the voluptuous resin that is opoponax. She’s a busy girl, that one – as she lolls about on the arm of her best friend rose (rose is a ‘get along’ sort of companion). You are on the town (virtually) in a secluded little boîte being serenaded by cool jazz and hot saxophones. Kick off your heels and sway with the rhythm as it weasels its way under your skin and moves you from the inside out. Have a cigarette – just one. It won’t kill you, any more than a night in bare feet pressed up against that handsome nameless stranger for a long deep kiss will; the two of you leave no room for the Holy Spirit, that’s a certainty. Antonio Alessandria Fleurs et Flammes (Antonio Alessandria): “Come on baby light my fire, come on baby light my fire, try to set the night on fire.” Who wouldn’t love to have these lines as a soundtrack for Valentine’s Day 2021 night? Of course, the right perfume can really set the night on fire, or even more on fireworks, that’s what Fleurs et Flammes promises since its glorious opening tickling your senses with a gunpowder accord, the vertiginous greenery of galbanum and scintillating aldehydes that always put a smile on my face. Nothing is sexier than a smile after all, isn’t it? Through this romantic trail of candle light smells, the magic of love unfolds revealing a lush floral heart of lavish roses, immaculate Madonna lilies and above all, carnation, the flower of poetry and passion to amaze your beloved one. What’s left on skin in the end is a sinful creaminess of almond milk and benzoin whispering “lick me, you won’t regret it”. Perfect on a woman, Fleurs et Flammes might even be more explosive on a confident man. Céline La Peau Nue (2019): An edgy perfume worn to seduce, conquer, but also to wear in the most intimate way. Céline La Peau Nue is the perfume of love par excellence. Built on a white iris butter base, it unfolds gently, both carnal and luminous. The note brought by the rice powder gives it a very elegant, strongly vintage spirit, reinforced by the rose absolute which gives it an almost aristocratic tone. Bergamot and vetiver are behind the scenes, like a caress from elsewhere, which melts into the skin to never leave it. A perfume imbued with mystery, since Céline has never communicated the name of the perfumer behind this masterpiece, as with the eight other creations of the “haute parfumerie” collection directed by Hedi Slimane. I always connect La Peau Nue to 1964 François Truffaut La Peau Douce film. An intense, hidden love story, which never sinks into vulgarity, carried by French actress Françoise Dorléac whose character gives herself entirely to a married man, without any hope of ever being together. She calls the tune, seduces him and then walks out when she has nothing more to give. Bye Bye love. Thameen Nassak is NOT vampy, nor juicy, nor sexy, nor boudoir-ready; it’s not the flashiest pedigree, nor the most intellectually-challenging conversation. What it is, is beautiful. Makes you not care how the courtship is going to be, because all the excitement is already being had by the mere hinting at the notion of romance; a great flor(iental) and a deep sigh–an instant love for me, and an immediate search for a full bottle. 4160Tuesdays Raw Silk and Roses (Sarah McCartney): This masterly rose soliflore was love at first sniff. Had this fragrance been around when I got married, it would have been my wedding day fragrance, instead I always wear it to other people’s. With “as much rose absolute as we’re allowed” as Sarah McCartney herself says, this rose is both luxurious and opulent, to be enjoyed with slow cat-like blinks. It doesn’t stop there, however. It has layers like petticoats (or petals?) underneath: Turkish delight, patchouli, geranium, a captivating breath of frankincense and a feast of fruits that bring to mind the peachy classics in the vein of Madame Rochas or Lanvin Arpège. But at the heart of the fragrance? Red Roses. Blocki This Grand Affair (Kevin Verspoor): Something about Blocki perfumes always puts sonatas and waltzes in my head. An American house with Prussian roots dating back to the end of the Civil War, Blocki’s perfumes are beautifully crafted and ageless. While This Grand Affair is named for a festival honoring the King’s birthday in the Old Country, it feels much more personal, like a perfumed love letter written on thick stationery with modern ink. The graceful sway of davana and citrus hangs in the air in the opening. Creamy tonka ushers in a smoky lavender, the notes swirling about each other fluidly. Vanilla warms the air, and patchouli and rose fills it with smells of earth and garden. Elegant and transporting, This Grand Affair feels poised on the edge of a great love; Bridgerton’s Daphne and Simon just before their first embrace in the garden, when all is anticipation, longing and the rhythmic beating of lovers’ hearts.
