Every four years a strange thing happens. We have an extra day in the month of February. This year, I thought it would be fun to look back at some very interesting perfumes that have “gone the way of the dodo”, as it were. Oh, they are still available (here and there) but now that they are “lost” (no longer in production).
One of the things that drew me to Oriflame was the word “natural”. When I first heard about them I was intrigued with the names of their scents: Amethyst Fatale, Eclat (radiance), and Free Motion. From what I have tried, I would say that this company’s fragrances are better than Avon’s and some of the modern Yves Rochers are.
In late 2011 the House of Liz Claiborne released the first new flankers of the classic Curve line (launched in 1996). I had naturally assumed that since over three years had passed since the last ones (his and hers Connects in 2008), there would be no more. The Curves have created quite the loyal following. Now, 15 years after the release of the initial pair, the Appeals seem to be doing just the same.
The Tarot is an ancient form of divination (a system of trying to understand one’s place and relation to cosmic forces beyond one’s control). There are many types of tarot decks and this line is based on the Gaian Tarot. It is the Major Arcana that Amanda Feeley of Escentual Alchemy has focused on, for her perfumes. If you tried the mass market line of Tarot perfumes (Anthology) and found them wanting and rather generic, I urge you to give these perfumes a try!
When I see the word “blue” in a perfumes title, very often I cringe. It is either some ubiquitous aquatic or a “nice clean” laundry fragrance. When I received Bellyflowers’ Blue Jasmine, for this review, its notes were very intriguing to me. Lotus, jasmine, more jasmine, vetiver, cypriol and sandalwood were all that was mentioned by the perfumer, but there was so much more.
An ode is a poem or prose that sings the praises of someone or something. In the early years of the twenty first century Yves Rocher released four perfumes (and a few flankers) that were truly above and beyond the quality and style of most direct marketing companies and attempted to capture these four very intangible ideals.
