Azman Perfumes Two Minutes After the Kiss Review (Cristiano Canali) 2021+ Oud embrace draw

Oud has been flavour of the decade in niche perfumery for so long now that it is sometimes hard to muster enthusiasm for a new fragrance featuring that medicinal, woodsy oil. But when a brand mixes high-end ingredients with French flair from a wildly talented perfumer, even jaded palates like mine must perk up and take note. Azman Perfumes Two Minutes After the Kiss, created by Argeville perfumer Cristiano Canali, takes dusky Laos oud and turns it into a languid odalisque draped on thick, deep cushions of rose and incense. With its sensual heart, crackle of smoky leather and earthy base, this is one of the darkest, sexiest oud fragrances to saunter my way for a while.

Dubai-based Azman Perfumes focuses on oud-centric fragrances that focus on quality and wearability. Founder Husen Khan’s fragrances marry traditional and rare ingredients from around the world with French composition expertise. Cristiano Canali – who I must divulge is a friend of mine — understands how to tease unusual qualities from traditional materials to give them a very individual spin. His extraordinary Romanza from Masque Milano, one of modern perfumery’s great narcissus scents, makes a poem of the decay of the flower just past its prime. His expertise in layering complex ingredients is a hallmark of Fundamental for Rubini, which puts a hyper-realistic white wine grape front and center in a composition that fascinatingly teeters just on the brink of excess without ever tipping over.

With Azman Perfumes Two Minutes after the Kiss, whose name suggests those intimate moments when the embrace ends, Canali plays with the tension between lush, satiny Turkish rose and rich incense on one side and brusque leather, dense woods and opaque oud on the other. As the lovers pull away, time briefly suspends: do they seduce or part? Was their embrace come-hither or farewell? Canali’s composition doesn’t tell you straightway. Peeling notes slowly away like Salome’s veils, he allows the perfume to shift between languorously rosy to woodsy and assertive and back again. First spray brings a thick rush of velvety fuchsia rose. This is a big, voluptuous, flower – I can almost smell its colour – sheeny, saturated pink – as it seeps across the top notes like wine stain. The rose gives off facets of berryish, plummy fruit and sweet spice which are emphasized by a hefty pinch of cardamom and the furry smell of myrrh.

If the opening is all about mistress rose, the middle is the master, oud. Oily, rooty vetiver and earthy patchouli stand in attendance. Then begins a slow dance. If I step away from the scent for a few minutes and revisit it, the rose has retreated to her boudoir and oud is orchestrating the composition. But if I take a moment and then raise my other wrist to my nose, I see that the rose was simply teasing; she is right there, flirting lazily with some pepper, draped in incense. Rose and oud tangle and part then tangle again until, after some moments, they stay intertwined like vines.

With so many artificial ouds out there that register as one-dimensional, Azman Perfumes Two Minutes After the Kiss reminds you of how multifaceted the real thing can be. The Laos oud Canali uses here generously is deeply woody, almost cedary, with less of oud’s characteristic wet band-aid quality and more of its affinity with ancient trees, smoked pipes and old leather. As it edges towards dry-down, the fragrance reveals gauzy layers of sweet spice, labdanum, earth and forest, tying them up with a black leather bow. Curling tendrils of frankincense weave in and out like hookah smoke as they rose and oud meld. The momentary stasis ends and the lovers embrace, their scent lingering long into the night.

Notes: Turkish rose, Jamaican pepper, Omani frankincense, Guatemala cardamom, Turkish rose absolute, Laos oud, Indonesian patchouli, Somalian myrrh, French beeswax, selectone, Indian sandalwood, Haitian vetiver, dark leather accord, Spanish labdanum, musk, ambrocenide.

  • I really love the east meets west theme built around intimacy and the longing of love. Beautiful, would love to get my nose on this !

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

Great review, To put in character for a romantic encounter this must be the one!
The quality of the composition reveals the power of the rose, now Ive have been exploring rose scents closely, something that I would like to try mixed with oud is inmortelle, mangoes, ginger, and maybe something like green tea.

  • What a lovely review. I am new to fragrances and I think my collection lacks a version of the classic oud + rose combination. Based on the review, it sounds like this house and this perfumer would be the way to go, as it’s their expertise! As for what I would like to see mixed in with oud… that’s a tough call. Maybe mint? Or anise? I imagine a rich medicinal scent with a bit of bite to it!

    Cheers from NC, USA

  • I am always curious about oud fragrances, even more if they come from perfume houses based in the Middle East, because there the oud wood is part of their culture.
    Thank you!

  • I like that founder Husen Khan’s fragrances marry traditional and rare ingredients from around the world with French composition expertise and the nose behind this, Cristiano Canali, understands how to tease unusual qualities from traditional materials to give them a very individual spin.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Danny Constantinescu says:

I love oud and Rose and I’m a huge fan of Laotian oud but even more I’m a huge fan of this particular perfumer, Robin fundamental is one of my favourite perfumes of the last 10yrs.
I would love to see oud paired with tuberose and aquatic notes. I live in London.

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

what a beautiful bottle. I like that this fragrance has more of the cedary aspects of oud – I’d love to try it. Personally I’d love to see a fragrance that mixes oud with more green notes, I’ve been very drawn to forest fragrances lately. I am in the USA.

  • The sensuous pull of the name, and then the description of the fragrance itself are marvelous. Two Minutes After the Kiss sounds like a deep, dark, sexy fragrance… something mostly for nights. I would love to try this. Hm. An unusual note with oud? I don’t know how unusual it is, but I’d love to see oud blended with Cedarwood Atlas. So woody.

  • Great review. Love the name of the fragrance. It’s definitely sexy. Oud and Rose, musk, this sounds wonderful not sure what other note to add. The bottle has a vintage flare. Love the art work choosen for this article. Thank you for this Chance. USA

  • AleksCipri says:

Two Minutes After the Kiss sounds amazing. I particularly love that Lauryn put my favorite Klimt’s painting in this review. This perfume sounds very intriguing and interesting. Oud rose combo, with addition of my favorite notes like incense, leather and cardamom. I would like to see oud mixed with other floral notes, since that is not a combination a can easily imagine. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • NikkoNikko says:

Wow this article was amazing, I kinda forgot I was reading about perfume. Such a romantic set of prose. I’ve only just started delving into perfume, so oud is still a big love for me. I think the biggest thing that interests me about this composition is the fusion with classical French perfumery. I have sampled many rose and oud scents but they are mostly in a very eastern style. As for a note I would like to see paired with oud, I think plum could have potential. Florals sweetened by plum with a heart of dry tobacco and strong oud sounds like my kinda heaven. Thanks for the chance to win! From Idaho, USA

  • Rose and oud is always a winning combination. From Lauryn’s review, it seems Azman Perfumes Two Minutes After the Kiss is a masterpiece. It has all the notes I love. Lauryn’s review describes it beautifully. Rose, sandalwood, musk, vetiver, patchouli, leather, incense, myrrh, frankincense, it has everything I love. One issue with Arabian oud based perfumes sometimes is they can be too oudy, too one-sided. Blended with French finesse and expertise and experience, these same notes can be blended into exquisite and elegant perfumes. This seems to be the case here. Glad to learn about this brand, and this particular perfume. Thanks for the review and draw. I am in the USA.

  • Lauryn says many oud fragrances are one-dimensional but Azman Perfumes Two Minutes After the Kiss is multi-faceted. The fragrance has floral, animalic and earthy elements. I am in US

  • jmmcmenamin says:

I like the description that Cristiano “teases unusual qualities from traditional materials.” I presume it is not what I’m expecting… in the best way!
I’m new to oud, so I don’t know what it’s traditionally paired with but I’m wondering how a bright citrus would be with it? Perhaps with a bit of nuttiness like almond?
    I’m in the USA.

  • Incense, rose and oud in this fragrance sound very unisexy! I liked the description of “ancient trees, smoked pipes and old leather.” I’d like to try an oud fragrance with a violet note. Thanks for another fabulous draw! Mich USA

  • I love that this oud rose does something different than the overdone rose oud combo and I am especially glad they use real oud! I am in VA USA and I would like to see a ylang ylang oud fragrance. Thanks for the draw.

  • Dubaiscents says:

I always love to hear about new brands from the Middle East and especially from the UAE. I appreciate that this was released as a single scent, it makes me believe Mr. Khan takes his fragrances seriously and truly cares about the quality not just a rush to cover all the bases. My husband and I adore a true ou scent so I’m sure this would get a lot of love here. I wish I was still in Dubai and could easily try it. As for and interesting note with oud, I’d love to see a tuberose or immortelle or narcissus and oud combo. Thanks for the lovely review. US

  • This sounds amazing. My favorite notes: Rose, Incense, Oud and Leather. The facts that he allows the notes to take turns orchestrating makes me smile. I would really love to see a patchouli/oud combo, don’t know how unusual that is and if it exist I didn’t know lol. I live in Indiana USA

  • I never tire of a good oud fragrance and this one sounds fabulous. Lauryn’s description makes it sound complex and unique. Also, that bottle looks elegant. I’m in the US.

  • This is a love poem like review and i’m sure Two Minutes After the Kiss is the same, natural Laos oud blended with rose, frankincense ,myrrh and spices sing very well together. Thanks for the draw , from EU!

  • I would love to see more oud and rose fragrances! Just kidding – it makes me curious to read your excitement over this well known combination. I’d love to get to know this and win it to Germany. Also I’d appreciate to find a warm and smoky scent of Java vetiver and oud. Thanks for the draw!

  • What happens after the kiss? A lot can happen and i would like to find out. Great article and would love to try this. Living in the EU

  • This fragrance sounds like it fits our name perfectly; intimacy and longing built around a rich and intriguing scent. Lauryn’s review really takes you in.
I am located in Los Angeles, CA.
In my home town, in Mexico, there is an abundance of nance, and I would love to see what that note would do matched up with oud.

I am intrigued by the notes rose, Patchouli, oud and frankincense sounds like a magical concoction. I would love to see the mix of oud and orange done. A beautiful piece by Lauryn has piqued my interest in this house. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

With its sensual heart, crackle of smoky leather and earthy base, this is one of the darkest, sexiest oud fragrances to saunter my way for a while. A beautiful and enticing description by Lauryn has got me curious. I am fascinated by the notes especially rose, Patchouli and Oud sounds like a sumptuous concoction. I would love to see oud and Sandalwood paired together. Thanks a lot from the UK

    Hi to all!!

It appeal to me to be a very different oud based perfume. I think that the beeswax and all the resins must give to the mixture a very special tone. I really would like to try It because It is wonderful, and It has an ingredient from my country, Spain.
My favourite ingredient un perfumery is iris so I would really like to try a perfume which mixes iris and oud un a simple way. I tried some with iris as company but never as main ingredient and this powdery-medicinal mix must be wonderful. As something inusual I would add probably some oysters and cotton Candy to give a different character.
I live in candelaria (Tenerife, Spain)
    Regards!

  • I love the description of the scent as a dance between lovers; it sounds positively bewitching. I would love to have oud combined in a scent with something like light citrus and berry. This may already exist and I have just not smelled it yet haha. I live in the USA

  • What appeals to me is the name of this perfume. I’d like oud to be mixed with immortelle or violet. US

  • kramerongo says:

I like the two marrying type the Rose and Oudi , they are the perfect match. The sweet Rose with vetiver and leather. I liked alot. I am in Sweden EU

  • Wow, Lauryn! What a sensuous description! I love this: “First spray brings a thick rush of velvety fuchsia rose. This is a big, voluptuous, flower – I can almost smell its colour – sheeny, saturated pink – as it seeps across the top notes like wine stain.” I would love to experience this deep rose, oud, & spice scent. Oud is a complex material that I would like to better understand. I am especially curious about the “band aid/barnyard” aspects of oud. If it is anything like the “barnyard” brettanomyces of wine, then there is much ground to cover. Materials I would like to see paired with oud: tuberose, ambergris, violet & black pepper deepening into licorice (for barnyard notes). Thank you for this opportunity! USA

  • Julesinrose says:

I, for one, have not tired of oud, nor have I tired of the rose/oud combination! I would LOVE to get my note on this fragrance because it actually has real oud in it. Laos oud, in fact. Has anyone ever done an oud/violet perfume? I mix a violet and a smoky tobacco accord together sometimes, so I think it would be a good combo. In Maine, USA

  • Two Minutes After the Kiss sounds like a classic combination of notes done right. The quality of the ingredients really shines through in these types of scents and the sourcing is impeccable. I would like to see oud paired with ginger and honey. I’m in MD, USA.

  • NituNicolae says:

I love the description of smoky leather, because i adore leather and oud perfumes altogether. I would like to see one day a oud based fragrance with a chai, lilly of the valley or neroli note/accord. I live in Romania, EU.

  • Two Minutes After the Kiss sounds like everything I love about the Middle East. Turkish rose and oud? Yes, please! As far as unusual notes to pair with oud, blackberry or bergamot perhaps. In NC USA

  • Thanks for the excellent review Lauryn!

This sounds like a very different Oud based perfume then what I am familiar with. The Beeswax and Resins make me curious what this must smell like. You’ve got me intrigued!

An ingredient I would like to see blended with Oud is Honeysuckle. I think the fruity and warm scent of honey and ripe citrus would mix well with the warm and woody aroma of Oud.

    Greetings from the UK!

  • wandering_nose says:

Lauryn’s review is so evocative and poetic… The imagery is beautiful too, mixing b & w photography and amazing art of Klimt. The bottle looks like a love potion and makes me think of my favorite ever painting which is “The Kiss” by the mentioned artist. I like Lauryn’s appreciation for the concept of using traditional high quality ingredients in an innovative way to present them in modern light. The notes I would like to see mixed with oud are water lily, sunflower and coffee. Thank you from Ireland, EU

  • I’m in Maryland, I am not skilled enough to have an idea of what should be mixed with oud, but what about pineapple? As for the fragrance I am most interested in the inclusion of incense with the oud. I am finding I am growing more interested in middle eastern inspired scents.

  • patrick_348 says:

I was intrigued by Lauren’s description of how the rose note emerges and recedes and emerges again (“tangle and part,” to use Lauryn’s terms) as the scent progresses. Her comments make me wonder if I have ever smelled authentic oud in a fragrance or just have experience with synthetic substitutes. I love a rhubarb note in fragrance and would be curious to see how it mixes with oud. I am in the US, in North Carolina.

  • What intrigues me incredibly about this scent based on Lauryn’s review is the characteristic of Laotian Oud that departs from oud’s signature “wet band-aid” quality and invokes oud’s deep woodsy facets.I live in Illinois, USA, and I would love to see lactonic notes mixed with oud!

  • Claumarchini says:

Oud is a difficult note for me, when it’s too prominent I find it difficult to sustain the dark, animalic scent, but the classic combination with rose and incense is always a great choice. I didn’t know this brand but I love Masque Milano and know Romanza so I would be really happy to win the draw. The east-meets-west feeling behind this fragrance is intriguing, and the way Lauryn describes its Sensual character really makes you want to try it immediately! I don’t know if it is unusual (I am pretty new to niche perfumery) but I’d be curious to see oud mixed with ozonic notes. Greetings from Italy

  • I enjoyed reading Lauryn’s review about this classic rose-oud combo with a twist. The fact the oud is natural and reminiscent of trees, smoke and leather triggers my curiosity, while labdanum and frankincense are some of my favorite notes.
As much as I love rose-oud combos, I would be curious to smell what oud feels like when paired with white flowers. Perhaps tuberose or gardenia…Or even lilac and other “wet” flowers.
    I am in EU.
    Thanks!

  • This sounds utterly divine.
I like the combination of notes and the transitions it sounds like it has , oud with patchouli? Yes please!

How could that not intrigue you!

Some of my favourite notes used with oud are honey / caramel & chocolate as well as champaca and frangipani.

    EU 🙂

  • Great name of the perfume. And the list of notes corresponds to it perfectly according to Lauryn’s review.
    I’m in EU

  • Bryant Worley says:

I really loved the way she laid out all the notes, pointing out how they fit together, making a beautiful ‘whole.

Since I know that Oud has been combined with so many notes, the only notes I think that it hasn’t been combined with are salty, or acquatic/marine notes. So please do that.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA,

  • macaroni023 says:

Two Minutes After the Kiss sound live very complex and sexual smell, I am really intrigued to try it!!!! I always like medicinal herbal quality in perfumes, thus I think oud with anise or sichuan pepper would be great.
Thank you for the draw, I am from EU

  • Thank you, Lauryn!

I would love to discover how “Canali plays with the tension between lush, satiny Turkish rose and rich incense on one side and brusque leather, dense woods and opaque oud on the other”.

For a while, I thought that the clean type of rose & oud combo is my type, but now I love a mistress rose & skanky oud for a little oomph!

By the the way, Azman Perfumes nailed the name, is so, so enigmatic and evocative.

I am very curious about this: chocolate and oud or maybe … or toffee with oud.

    I live in Europe, Romania.

  • What a lovely review Lauryn and thanks for introducing us Azman Perfumes Two Minutes After the Kiss (beautiful name for a scent, by the way). I think the oud + rose combination is a winner but a road too crowded. Cristiano Canali seems to have made a great work here and he allows ( as Salome’s veils, great metaphor Lauryn) the perfume to shift between languorously rosy to woodsy and assertive and back again: rose, oud, rooty vetiver and earthy patchouli slow dance for us. I guess the great quality of the Laos oud Mr. Canali uses play also a big part in it. I love oud with saffron notes but it is not so unusual in perfumery. I live in Spain, EU.

  • Judging by this review, the perfumer had no limits whatsoever creating this rich fragrance – rose absolute, myrrh, oud – all sound like gold to me. Regarding the wishful oud fragrance, lilies would be great, although maybe someone have already done that.

  • Sarah Lathrop says:

I’m always interested in a dark spicy incense rose scent! I live in Connecticut in the U. S. I would love to see a subterranean Oud…something with mushrooms, soil, root vegetables. Thanks for the draw!

  • This fragrance sounds great as a dark spicy rose with incense!
I live in Connecticut in the U.S.
I would love to smell a subterranean themed oud with mushrooms, soil and root vegetables.
    Thanks for the draw!

  • I appreciate discovering, perfumer, Cristiano Canali and I appreciate hearing about this fragrance. Lauryn’s review caused me to think highly of Cristiano Canali as a perfumer and I’d like to try another fragrance which he was a part of making called “Fundamental”. This fragrance seems like an excellent use of high-quality ingredients and I’d love to try it–I’m still not familiar enough w/ the rose-oud combination. I might like to see oud in combination w/ white grape, sage, a fizzy temple orange, celery, an aromatic cucumber accord and/or mango. I live in MD., U.S.A

  • Danu Seith-Fyr says:

This is a fascinating scent that marries the best of the Arabian perfume world, fused together in a seductive composition that captivates and enchants. As usual, Madame Lauryn has taken us on an exploratory tryst that ignites a desire for more. I would love to see a velvety Oud paired with an austere and clear Birch. The juxtapostion would be interesting and to see what one could tease out of the other. I live in SW France.

  • Your quote “With so many artificial ouds out there that register as one-dimensional, Azman Perfumes Two Minutes After the Kiss reminds you of how multifaceted the real thing can be” really resonated with me. Because that is how I’ve always viewed oud notes. It was a one-note scent that smelled the same in just about anything I tried out. This fragrance sounds so complex and so mysterious. I’d never even heard of this line before so I thank you for writing this article. I love being introduced to new houses.

As for unusual notes, I would like to see more fragrances that use the note of hazelnut. I know it’s not terribly unusual, but I don’t come across many perfumes that have that note in it.

    I live in the USA.

  • What a fascinating review by Lauryn. I could almost smell that intricate dance of the rose and oud amidst all the other players as they pushed and pulled in an effort to prolong that intimate moment. One of the aspects that draw me to Two Minutes After the Kiss, is the use of incense, since incense and oud complement each other so well. They are also some of my favorite notes in perfumery. I think oud and matcha would be a very interesting combination for a fragrance. Thanks so much to Azman Perfumes for their generosity and this chance. I’m in Oregon, USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the beautiful review Lauryn.

It’s been such a long time since my interest in a rose oud incense combination has captured my attention. I’m a huge fan of th euse of Omani frankinscence and Haitian vetiver in this fragrance – it seems to transport it to another place all together.

I would love to see oud with coffee, magnolia, yuzu, iris, ozonic notes, salt water.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • redwheelbarrow says:

This sounds incredible and I love the inspirations. I love your description of the rose flirting lazily with some pepper! Natural oud is truly beautiful and I don’t think I will tire of it. Thanks for the draw. In the US.

  • I love the unique sent of this fragrance. I would like to see domek ginger that would be amazing. Uraz Poland

  • Well this sounds right up my alley! The notes! The seductiveness! Real oud too…

I live in the USA. I think I’d like to see osmanthus mixed with oud. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Great name for a fragrance! I like the brand focus on “quality and wearability” particularly when it comes to oud. Too often, I get a plasticky/bandaid smell from those I’ve tried. Thanks for the review & the draw. I’m in the US.
