Antonio Alessandria Parfums Nacre Blanche Review (Antonio Alessandria) + Crepuscular Draw

Antonio Alessandria Parfums Nacre Blanche by Antonio Alessandria

Danae And The Shower Of Gold by Louis Francois Comerre

I will wade out

till my thighs are steeped in burn-

ing flowers

I will take the sun in my mouth

and leap into the ripe air

Alive

with closed eyes

to dash against darkness

in the sleeping curves of my

body

Shall enter fingers of smooth mastery

with chasteness of sea-girls

Will I complete the mystery

of my flesh

I will rise

After a thousand years

lipping

flowers

And set my teeth in the silver of the moon

e.e. cummings, “Crepescule”

One of perfumery’s great storytellers, Antonio Alessandria has taken us on a wander through a hot Sicilian summer with Fara, past the procession of Sant’Agata in Dies Aurorae, and into the Prince’s study in Gattopardo.

2014’s Nacre Blanche raises a curtain on an scene that seems drawn from a ballet or opera. In the fanciful way in which it unfolds, there is a touch a meta-theatricality, of a perfume that slyly whispers, “watch and wait.”

“The light of the moon, white as a pearl enters the window and through a mirror illuminates the skin of a young woman, white and transparent as alabaster. The intense fragrance of the night blooming tuberose, drifting from the garden, merges with the scent of a private chamber.”

Nacre Blanche invites us into her bedchamber, to intimate moments spied upon. And she knows she is the object of regard. Early on she is remote, the touch of cool, creamy woods as she breathes her name alone to the flowers aglow at her window. But get closer, and Nacre Blanche slowly transforms into a tuberose kitten, claws slashing into leather and she kneads and retracts. Closer still, she lolls, a creamy vanilla odalisque bathed in moonlight.

Nacre Blanche begins deceptively genteel, with a fruity spray of tart, bitter orange, some vanilla wafer and warm slivers of sandalwood. I almost expect it to ask me to pour the tea. But this quiet elegance does not last long. A fascinating plastic flower note comes in – the smell of the fake pink hydrangeas in a vase – that I sometimes get from tuberose, which adds a surreal touch. The disheveled, lactonic sensuality that I expect from tuberose is absent at this stage, as Nacre Blanche flirts and retreats. The creaminess is there, but without its usual indolic purr, and the flower seems greener, almost unopened.

But as it warms on the skin, Nacre Blanche’s purr turns guttural, like  Lois Collier stalking her man prey in the 1946 movie The Cat Creeps. The tuberose begins to bloom, wrapped in smooth glove leather. The citrus fruit hangs in the background as if waiting, as the thick white flower and leather merge into the bodily redolence of slept-in sheets and licked skin. There is some spice now; the soapy herbal zip of coriander adds a bubble bath note, and I pick up some banana sweetness from ylang.

As things settle down, benzoin and vanilla, which have been slowly rising, take over. They accentuate the creaminess of the lush flowers, drawing them alternately into comforting sleepiness and naughtiness. Nacre Blanche, eyes closing against the wee hours, turns on her silken pillows as sandalwood reappears, soothing and edgeless. The night breeze stirs, and jasmine caresses her floral sisters.

Luminously lovely, Nacre Blanche echoes for several hours before fading into the night. Sensual, elegant, and just a little badly behaved, this is a scent for dreaming of rogues rather than princes by maidens who hardly need rescuing.

Notes: Bergamot, grapefruit, tangerine, petitgrain, coriander, tuberose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, osmanthus, benzoin, vanilla, leather, patchouli, sandalwood, musk.

Editor’s Note: Antonio Alessandria is the fourth perfumer to compose a celebratory CaFleurebon 10th year Anniversary fragrance Rusty Vibes… (also inspired by a photograph by Alex C. Musgrave and we will be featuring it very soon)-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

  • I’m always looking for white floral, sweet fragrances that my girlfriend might like and she always looks for woody, musky fragrances for me. This sounds like the purrfect fragrance for us both!

We are feline fans and have an inkling that Lauryn is too!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • wow, this sounds just, wow. what a lovely, descriptive review! i like how Lauryn pulled kittens into this review, with the leather and tuberose. and which niche boutique? i am always looking through Luckyscent for samples, but i was on the Jovoy site for another review, and there are other niche boutiques that have been featured on CaFleureBon, i’m sure any would be lucky to be able to carry Antonio’s parfums. I”m in the US, thank you for the review and the draw!

  • I am very intrigued by Antonio Alessandria’s creations, and I am lucky enough to own Malia and to have tried Noir Obscur. They’re both beautiful! I enjoyed reading about the playfulness of Nacre Blanche and would love the opportunity to try it. It would be wonderful to see boutiques like Lucky Scent, Indigo, and The Scent Room carry Antonio’s line. In the USA.

  • The notes in this actually sound amazing all together! I’m in MI, USA. I don’t know of any niche boutiques to be honest so I’m not sure. I usually only purchase niche fragrances online or Nordstrom for the ones they carry.

What strikes me from Lauryn’s review is that this sounds anything but linear. It sounds like a scent that goes through any number of transformations. That excites me. I live in Greensboro, NC, and I don’t think we have any niche boutiques here, but I have ordered from Lucky Scent and that seems like a good choice.

  • I’ve never tried anything from this house and I love white florals in the warmer months. Lauryn writes a beautiful and evocative review. I’d love to see Luckyscent carry this. Thank you for the review and the generous draw. I’m in the USA

Base on Lauryn’s beautiful description I’m in love with Nacre Blanche:”Luminously lovely, Nacre Blanche echoes for several hours before fading into the night. Sensual, elegant, and just a little badly behaved, this is a scent for dreaming of rogues rather than princes by maidens who hardly need rescuing.”
Thanks to the generosity of Antonio Alessandria.
Would be nice if Lucky Scent carry Antonio’s Parfums.

Such a unique description! By the looks of it, notewise, it seems light and floral. By the description, it has a darker tale….a Tuberose Twist. To me, depending on how it goes, while darkness can be sensual, it can also be calm. I truly wonder how it is!

Thank you so much for this amazing draw! I live in New Hampshire USA! I would love to see this sold at LuckyScent, since its a well-known company.

  • ” drawing them alternately into comforting sleepiness and naughtiness”

The notes sound gorgeous and that description makes it sound as if the execution of the scent was perfect , giving you the best of both worlds.

I’d love to see nose Paris carry the brand.

    From Ireland. Eu

  • Sounds really different, ever changing and interesting. The notes sound wonderful as does the way the scent is composed. Love vanilla and with the florals mentioned and the fruits as well it sounds amazing. In CT USA. As for what boutique to carry Antonio Alessandria Parfums there really aren’t any close to me so online is usually what I have to do. Luckyscent of course but also some like Krystalfragrance, Perfumology and others like them would be nice. Thanks for the draw.

  • Hi I’d like to enter please. I’ve never found a tuberose to love but this sounds fascinating and the imagery of kittens and the cat people is irresistible! I’m in U.K.

  • I am always very happy when Cafleurebon talks about this “gentleman perfumer”. His scents speak of a beautiful land and fully represent it, I heard the sample of Nacre Blanche and the description in this article is spot on, I seemed to still feel its perfume. Alessandria’s scents are clouds of dreams, they hit me from the first spray. Thanks for this nice chance

This fragrance sounds like it takes you on an interesting journey. Calm at first, and maybe a little expected, until the florals bubble up. I’d like to see ZGO carry Antonio Alessandria Parfums. New Jersey, USA.

  • As I wrote in the first post that I do not see published (maybe there were problems) I love the creations of this perfumer, a composer of dreams. Its perfumes give emotions, they are perfumed dreams that speak of the splendid Sicily. NACRE BLANCHE is described here wonderfully (I had a sample)
I am happy to participate, thank you

I do adore guttural perfumes that make me want to prowl in the night. I remember seeing the original Cat People years ago. I thought it was so sexy and dangerous. I love plastic tube rose notes. I’d like to see Osswald in New York City carry Antonio Alessandria Perfumes. I love the staff there.
    I live in the USA.

  • What strikes me about Lauryn’s article is the diversity of it. Poems, descriptions, and great photos of this tuberose fragrance. I would love to see this brand at indigo perfumery. I have never tried any of Antonio Alessandria Parfum but wuld love to. USA

  • I loved the poetry about this review!!!! Mmmm, tuberose and vanilla are my favorites! Lovely, just lovely! I would adore this scent so much!!! Thanks for the opportunity! I’m in florida USA

  • Intrigued by the notes of Patchouli, leather and musks. I need to explore this house further Thanks from the United Kingdom

  • Notes: Bergamot, grapefruit, tangerine, petitgrain, coriander, tuberose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, osmanthus, benzoin, vanilla, leather, patchouli, sandalwood, musk. All the notes sound great and a wonderful description by Lauryn. Thanks from the United Kingdom

  • That is an unexpected transformation. The imagination used to describe the transformation is something quite wonderful. I’d like to see Antonio Alessandria Parfums at Jovoy. I am in the US.

  • I actually visited Antonio’s store while in Sicily, however I was so overwhelmed trying so many fragrances that by the time I got to smelling his creations I couldn’t appreciate them properly. I vaguely remember Nacre Blanche as a very pleasant white floral, wish I tried it on skin. So if you ever end up in Catania make sure to check Antonio’s store and smell his lovely creations before trying anything else. Greetings from Romania.

  • A new house to me. The description of the notes in the fragrance sounds like something I will love. A good mix of floral and citrus notes. I don’t usually shop at boutiques but I’ve ordered from Luckyscent. It carries a good collection or niche perfumes. It’ll be good to have it available at Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom. Thank you for the giveaway. California USA

In a word – Voluptuous! Would love to see this scent in my favorite niche boutique in Brooklyn: Twisted Lily.

What a beautiful, irresistible review, Lauryn! The words, the visuals, the occasional odd yet oddly appropriate image (“the smell of the fake pink hydrangeas in a vase“). “the soapy herbal zip of coriander” calls my name.

I have long wanted to try Antonio’s line. I asked him last year if it is available in the US. Unfortunately, no.

  • The description of Nacre Blanche sounds hypnotic. The emphasis on tuberose makes me think it’s a fiercely feminine fragrance. Lovely review Lauryn! I would love ego see this at Twisted Lily. I’m in MD, USA.

  • Lauryn,

Thank you for the fantastic review. Antonio, grazie per il profumo.

Lauryn, I love how you describe this perfume as a cloy woman and then vividly describe the notes in candor, as truly perceived by you. It makes me want to wear this and act the part, a surreal fantasy of sensuality.

I would like to see this where Antonio would like it, I’d gladly buy a fragrance at a boutique where the perfumer feels well represented and confident in their abilities and services.

    I’m in the US.

  • Tuberose, jasmine AND ylang with leather and sandalwood too? **Swoon** I’d love to find this line carried at Indigo because I like their sample format. Thanks for the review & the draw, I’m in the US.

  • Nacre Blanche sounded like a cunning yet graceful nocturnal feline, with its sensual white flowers blended with dangerous leather and soft vanilla. I would love to experience the surprises it offers, from the timid opening to the voluptuous drydown. I am in the EU and can’t say which niche perfume boutique should host the AA house.

  • The opening notes sounds delicious. I’de be wanting tea too. After that it seems like it takes on a life of its own and is all over the place but then settles down nicely.
The notes leave me wanting. USA reader.

  • I love all the notes and I like the very feminine imagery it draws. Somedays that’s what I wanna wear. USA

  • I love how Lauryn’s review captures what the fragrance is and she tells a story. The fragrance sounds lovely and the notes (especially vanilla) are very intriguing. I have never tried this fragrance before, but I would love to put my nose to the scent. I would love to see a Xerjoff boutique carry Antonio Alessandria Parfums. Warm regards from Illinois USA.

  • Lauryn has a beautiful way with words = for me, this encapsulates what this fragrance is about = “Sensual, elegant, and just a little badly behaved, this is a scent for dreaming of rogues rather than princes by maidens who hardly need rescuing.” It seems to be a sensual fragrance , what with the tuberose kitten’s claws slashing into leather, evoking animalic sensuality of leather mingled with the gentle seduction of flowers. Nacre Blanche is a perfume I would love to try. Thanks for the draw and the review. Writing from USA.

  • Oh the tuberose, it’s such a chamelon. That with the vanilla benzoin drydown sounds positively dreamy. I live in the USA. Locally, I’d love to see it at Tigerlily. Thanks!

  • it had me at “tuberose”!!!! for sure!

I would like to see this perfume at Beautik.ro or nicheparfumerie.ro
    I live in Romania, EU.

  • I have not heard fragrances being described as having a “meta-theatricality” aspect and thus would love to experience that scent. I like Osswald in NYC a lot, though I’d hesitate on recommending them to use up shelf space for any perfume unless I have tried it before myself. Regards from the USA.

  • Lauryn made me endlessly curious about Nacre Blanche by describing the way the fragrance pulls at the unexplored edges of tuberose. I usually don’t think of tuberose as having green, sensual leathery, or creamy touches – and all of these touches provide the kind of balance I’d crave to tuberose’s heady, waxy white floral aroma.

I live in California, so I would love to see Antonio Alessandria Parfums carried at ZGO Perfumery. That way, I could also get my nose on this wonderful sounding fragrance!

  • What strikes me about Nacre Blanche is the scent description sounds so divine being a creamy floral sensuous fragrance that is naught yet elegant. LuckyScent should carry Antonio Alessandria Parfums. Thanks for the draw. I live in USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

This sounds like such a beautiful floral composition. I love the smell of tuberose and osmanthus and the sounds of these florals with the punchy citrus opening and the warm base makes it sounds like the summer sun, which is present all day and slowly dies off at sunset late in the day, leaving it’s warmth all over you for a few hours after it has set.

I haven’t tried other perfumes from this perfumer.

    Warm regards from WI, USA

  • I liked how Lauryn described the evolving scent of Nacre Blanche to be like a range of different personality traits. I would like the opportunity to try it. It would be wonderful to see boutiques like Lucky Scent, Indigo, and The Scent Room carry Antonio’s line. I live in the USA.
