Every Holiday Season,  Karen Dubin and Karen Adams founders of Sniffapalooza, dreams up a new holiday celebration and this year was no exception; they outdid past years because instead of one event, they organized three scensory experiences over two weekends. Sniffapalooza partnered up with three iconic French fragrance houses, Annick Goutal, Diptyque and Hermes.

Annick Goutal Boutique Madison Avenue

Saturday, December 3rd: Annick Goutal hosted the group at the Madison location. Françoise Alessi, Retail Manager, and her staff warmly welcomed us to the elegant boutique. To put us in the celebratory spirit for the Parisian Holiday Afternoon Party, the boutique was festively decked out in full Holiday regalia.  From the exterior window display to the interior shelves, the main attraction was the new Tenue de Soiree which was  beautifully displayed.

Francoise Alessi shared with us a brief overview of the brand’s history and emphasized their most recent releases, Rose Oud, an Oriental highlighted with notes of Agarwood and Turkish Rose, and Tenue de Soiree, a contemporary Chypre built on an Iris base, which is one of my favorite perfumes of 2016.

Diptyque Boutique West Village NYC

Sunday, December 4th: Diptyque hosted their Holiday Celebration at the charming West Village boutique. The festivities began with Boutique Manager, Kim Cotugno, having the store on full festive alert for our group, presenting us with light bites, sparkling mimosas, coffee, and seasonal cider to prepare us to delve into their holiday offerings.

Diptyque Holiday Candles

Kim Cotugno and her staff spoke to us about Diptyque’s heritage. From their legendary candles which are made of a high-quality vegetable/ paraffin wax mix, through the fragrance line, the scented ovals, the body range, the celebrated travel sets, the new fabric accessories line, and, the limited and much coveted Holiday Collection. So much to take in the two hours. In the spirit of the season, I had to purchase a Limited Edition Holiday Candle.

Sunday, December 10thHermes held their Holiday Soiree at the one-year-old Hermès Parfumerie at Brookfield Place in the Financial District. This is the only Hermès store exclusively dedicated to fragrance, and showcases  the brand’s entire library of perfumes and ancillarie including the popular Le Bain bath, body and hair-care collection, as well as Le Parfum de la Maison—Céline Ellena’s collection of scented objects, are also included here.

The Immersion Experience at Hermès

The boutique’s Assistant Manager, Breanna Brady and her team, greeted us with mimosas and gave us an overview of the much-loved stellar brand. We were guided through the Immersion Experience Tour which delved into the history of the storied house’s fragrance line and an interactive walk around to smell our favorite scents and discover new ones.  A big draw for the groups’ holiday shopping was the new Christine Nagel penned fragrance, Galop d`Hermes, her first for the house. Complimentary holiday engraving for any fragrance purchase during the event was a special touch.

Thank you Team Karen, (Karen Dubin and Karen Adams) for hosting memorable 2016 events throughout the year. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to one and all.

  • What a treat it would be to attend the Sniffapalooza! I enjoyed the virtual visit along with Hernando and want to express thanks to the houses as well as ‘Team Karen’ for the opportunity. On a recent trip I was able to quickly sniff Hermes’ Galop d’Hermes in duty free but would love the chance to sample it further. I am in the CONUS.

Wonderful. The Sniffapalooza is like a Santa huge gift box. The karen team work is appreciated for such a memorable event. My choice is Diptyque Swag bag if I win.
Thanks for the generosity & opportunity to participate in the draw by letting my relative address in NY.

  • I love what Team Karen, does it is such a treat for the fragrance lover! Sniffapaloza is such a nice event and the three Houses hosting the tours is so special taking the attendees around the store a MD giving them a history of each houses fragrance line to the present most recent offering. I love how Hernando was so taken with the Diptyque line he had to buy a candle. Each house welcoming team Karen and their guests with mimosas and cider and other treats to get them in the spirit of the season is so nice to help immerse them in the history and to get the understanding of what Hermes, Diptyque and Annick Goutal represent is a dream for a fragrance lover like me and I hope I get to enjoy a event like this one day. I would chose the Annick Goutal bag and I live in the USA. Happy Holidays!

  • How awesome of the two Karens to put this together! Attending a Sniffapalooza event is on my bucket list. All the swag descriptions sound wonderful and I like the sounds of the scents mentioned – Annick Goutal Rose Oud and Tenue de Soiree and the Hermes Le Bain products and Galop d’Hermes. If I must choose I would choose the Annick Goutal. Thanks Hernando for the lovely reviews and to the Karens, Annick Goutal, Diptique and Hermes for the generous prize options, and as always CaFleurebon for bringing it all together. I’m in the US.

  • Wouldn’t it be cool if we could all be able to go to such an event. Reading is almost as good as going. I think I’d like the Hermes bag if offered the opportunity. Thank you. I live in the USA.

  • I really enjoyed hearing about these fun events. Oh, to live in NYC! The fragrance that sounds the most interesting to me is Tenue de Soiree by Annick Goutal as i love chypres. I would choose the Annick Goutal bag, given the choice. Thank you for the report.

  • I have heard about so many events by the Karens! I so wish I could attend one! Thank you for letting us live vicariously through you, Hernando. I’d love Tenue de Soiree or Galop d’Hermes under the tree. If given the choice I’d choose the Hermes bag, but would be happy with any of them! Thanks again.

  • It’s always good fun to read about these gatherings and wonder what it would be like to able to attend just one. Any of the bags would be welcome here, if I could choose one for myself it would be the Diptyque bag. US

  • All three of these perfume houses are very easy to love, and a day spent sniffing their wares sounds divine! I would have found it impossible to pass up a Diptyque holiday candle too. I’m in the US and Hermes Galop d’Hermes is on my must-sample list. Thanks and happy holidays!

  • I came to know abou Sniffapalooze many years ago and to this day, it remains the only kind of its event. I didn’t know Hermes actually has a boutique dedicated to fragrances only. Given Hermes’ attention to detail, the boutique must be one of a kind. My choice will be Hermes Swagbag. I am in the US.

  • I wish there had been some event like this in Paris that I could have enjoyed, they sound so unique! I would like the Diptyque Philosykos perfume and their Tam Dao one, it sounds so interesting. I was just in Annick Goutal but didn’t get anything, their scents seemed so strong and powerful to me. It was hard to pick one, haha. I heard Oponé was another great one, but I haven’t tried it yet. Diptyque really interests me with their two products of candles and perfumes because I wonder which scents work both ways. It’s such a wild idea to me, I love it! Also the gorgeous bottle for Oponé makes me want to own it just for that!

    I’m in the USA.

  • I’m always a bit envious reading about these things. Maybe a lot envious. Three great houses in the draw. For the Hermes event I was struck by the twenty attendee limit. I would like to be win the Hermes bag in this draw and be attendee number twenty-one, kinda. 🙂 USA

  • Ooh! I’d love to have some Annick Goutal under my tree!!! Especially Rose Oud!
This event sounds like it was amazing!
    I live in the U.S.

  • concertslover says:

Merry Christmas! A grab bad for Xmas, a perfect gift to ring in the new year. I have had Hermes D’Terre but my wife hated it so much I gifted it to my father in law. Annick Goutal was a label I have read about here and passively targeted to sample without luck. The Rose Oud sounds pretty amazing and that would be a sample I would like under the tree for sure.
    Obviously I choose Annick Goutal.

  • Wayne Hollander says:

Hernando writes gracefully and really captures the awe and magic of thee events! I would love to find TAM DAO or maybe some EQUIPAGE next to my menorah! Thanks for the wonderful draw!

  • I’m in the US. Thank you so much for the draw. Rose Oud is an absolute must try. Galop would be good too. What intrigued me the most about this post was the Hermes Soiree at the only Hermes store that’s dedicated to fragrance only and that the soiree only aloud the first 20 Attendees. Hermes has a lot of sentimental value to me since it was one of the first companies I got into in my fragrance hobby. I always love hearing about these events and your writers do an amazing job showcasing the events. Hermes is my choice. Thanks again!

  • I really appreciate this report because there are no events of this kind in my area, and I am unable to attend. I would love to receive a gift bag of any of these houses! But if I had to choose one scent it would be Galop d’Hermes, sounds amazing! And I am in the continental US.

  • Thank you to Hernando for the tour and especially for the photos of this Sniffapalooza event. It’s exciting to see the shops in NYC, and I enjoyed hearing about their seasonal offerings. I think Tenue de Soiree sounds lovely. Iris is growing as a new favorite in my heart.

I’m especially interested to try Galop. I find Christine Nagel very interesting and particularly thoughtful in her recent interviews. When talking to NY Mag’s The Cut (2 Nov 2016) she spoke eloquently of her feeling that fragrance is genderless. I like her style.

As is often the case, Hermes is the house for me if I must choose just one from these marvelous fragrance offerings. May Galop win the race! Thank you to Team Karen and to CaFleureBon for the fragrant fun. I am in the US.

  • I would love to go to a sniffapalooza event especially small private ones at the boutiques
The photos were great and it was like bring there. I am so curious about galop that I would love to win the hermès bag
Thank you for these great reports

  • There’s nothing quite as festive as Christmas in NYC, beautiful sights and smells! I would love the chance to sample the Annick Goutal offering. I’m in the US, thanks forthe draw!

  • What a great way to feel festive during the Christmas season. It sounds so fun to visit the small boutiques and discover the latest fragrance offerings. I had no idea that Hermes had a boutique dedicated just to its fragrances. I’d so like to try Galop. The idea of the engraving makes it all the more special.
    I live in the USA.

  • I enjoyed Hernando’s Sniffapalooza Holiday report – that must have been such fun! The holidays have so many unique fragrances and celebrating with these three scensory experiences must have been very special. Of these three Houses, I would have liked to see a Dyptique present under my tree. Since my tree is still up and waiting …
