"Paris, a vibrant city not far from Antwerp, where I live. Paris does recall immediately the perfume: “L’heure Bleue” from Guerlain, which has a beautiful flagship store at 68, ave des Champs Elysées.

The story of Jacques Guerlain who was walking at the Seine at sunset. His favorite moment of the day: the twilight. The sun is gone asleep but the night has not found his stars yet… .

L’heure Bleue has a wonderful composition based on the famous “Guerlinade”. The Heliotrope, violet and iris are the tenderness, while the musk, amber, vanilla and benzoin give a powerful depth. Like Paris is a city of opposites in architecture, art, fashion and districts– so reflects L’heure Bleue pure romance with fabulous opposite notes.

When you smell L’Heure Bleue, it makes you dream away. So does Paris, where all the different districts melt down in one big beautiful city. This perfume is for people who love a vibrant life but also a quiet romantic encounter. It is pure love in a bottle.- Wim Jenssens aka Mr. Guerlain

When I did my junior perfumers exam at H&R (now merged into Symrise) I went to Hasslauer in Paris to look at their collection of ambergris.

They led me into a room where they had all the pieces stored of the real stuff… That was an incredible moment. The depth and beauty of this weird natural ingredient – all in one room was marvelous Geza Schoen, Perfumer

“I enter Paris via La Gare du Nord.

African spices, smoke, garlic and sweet amber perfumes hang in the air, aaah Paris, I love her!

Quick passing hits of unwashed shirts and car diesel until we make our exit of the station. For me, the heart beat of Paris is Yves Saint Laurent Paris provocatively dancing under a veil of smoke.” Linda  Pilkington, Founder  and Owner of Ormonde Jayne  London Perfumery.

Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief

Tomorrow we conclude with  Les Americains….

  • Valentine says:

I love Baume du Doge for the initial burst of citrus and creamy, vanilliac drydown.

  • supermarky says:

Bois d'Ombrie which I usually pair with Santa Maria Novella Marescialla
other favorites are Baume de Doge and Sienne L'Hiver and the original Eau d'Italie

  • supermarky says:

oh I now realize I didn't follow the rules! first let me correct my spelling: I guess it ought to be "Baume du Doge", also let me volunteer that I'd like to win Au Lac because of my love of the Futurists (particularly Balla, for his wonderful futurist clothing!)

  • I like the eau d'italie line very much.
My favorites are the eponymous Eau and the boozy Paestum rose, but I appreciate the signature Betrand Duchaufour touch in all 6 scents of the line.
Au Lac features some notes that I usually do not appreciate much, but I'd love to try it nevertheless! Please enter me in the draw!

  • My favourite Eau d'Italie is Baume du Doge. It's so special… Once I read it was an "intellectual fragrance", and I agree. On me, it's incense, and cinnamon and orange, and it lasts for hours. It makes me smile whenever I wear my sample.
Paestum Rose is another beautiful fragrance and it brings me memories of my holidays in Rome two years ago, of a magic sunset in the Piazza di Spagna wearing Paestum Rose.
The notes of Au Lac sound lovely, and I'm looking forward to discovering what Alberto Morillas has done for Eau d'Italie.

Please, enter me in the draw. Thank you very much!

  • I obtained samples of the entire line, and was very impressed! My absolute favorite is Paestum Rose, which is now on my short wish list. I'd love to try the new fragrance.
