Pierre Guillaume Superlady (Huitiéme Art) ~New Perfume Review + Wonder Women Draw

A vibrant floral; Superlady is a magic potion for the Wonder Women of everyday life!”-Pierre Guillaume. The Magnolia Flower with its multi-scented facets of rose, vanilla, and flat-out lush floralcy is the perfect metaphor for  French perfumer’s Pierre Guillaume’s new Eau de Parfum, a floral gourmand he named SuperladyPierre Guillaume Superlady is inspired by the strong, capable women who surround and personally inspire M. Guillaume, and is centered on the head-turning Magnolia a sub-tropic and tropical-zone flower.

Magnolia (like all strong women) has proved itself to be tenacious, glorious, hardy, and has been blooming on our planet since the Mesozoic Era, approximately 95 million years ago. The magnolia blossom is venerated worldwide as the ultimate manifestation of the divine feminine or Yin.

M. Guillaume has generously given shout-outs to the women who inspire him, a “who’s-who of worldwide women who are movers and shakers" including our very own Michelyn Camen, Editor-In-Chief of ÇaFleureBon

Pierre Guillaume is fiercely indpendent and is known for pushing the olfactive envelope, his Huitiéme Art range with its simple accords succeeds in breaking a glass ceiling albeit this time a fragranced one. Superlady is his seventeenth offering for this range which was created in 2010. Separate from his Parfumerie Generale collection, Huitiéme Art was created to break new ground with heretofore unknown cutting edge combinations and techniques, as well as to honor the Romanian perfumer, blogger critic and historian Octavian Sever Coifan, who coined the term “Perfume is the Eighth Art”.

Superlady, described by M. Guillaume as a “Vitaminized Floral” (read supercharged) opens with a green and humid blast of Magnolia, sweet and creamy. Using the Headspace method of extraction allows the often hidden vanillic and bitter green facets to shine, and you can smell the lushness and all-encompassing tropical fecundity emanating from the bloom. It’s almost like standing in a floral hothouse with the moist and heavy air surrounding you.

The soft presence of the apple enrobed in a bright pinkish-red coating of lip-smacking and hard-crack candy, hovers in the background bringing a distinctly sassy vibe to the sheer dripping femininity of the blossom. Underneath all is the softest cream-colored pashmina shawl of white amber, which keeps Superlady from delving head first into the realm of too sweet.  Superlady is a candy apple and vivid rainforest magnolia floral  that is not for the very young, but rather the  accomplished woman who’ conquered the art of “Adulting” and is at the peak of her performance, physically, mentally, and sexually. A “take-no-prisoners” fragrance, Pierre Guillaume Superlady will turn heads at the office, club, on the street, or at home. If you love big florals as I do you’ll want this. Trust me.

Notes: Headspace-Extracted Magnolia Blossom, Candy Apple Accord, White Amber

Disclosure: Michelyn bought her bottle of Pierre Guillaume Superlady and sent me a sample. The opinions are my own.

LOVE PG! And I’m loving the idea of candy apple + magnolia that Robert is describing. I’m dying to try this and hope that I love it half as much as PG’s Jardin de Kerylos, which is not just my favorite PG but also my favorite fig. I live in the US and would love to win! Please enter me!

  • This one sounds really interesting by the notes. I did not had the chance to test a lot of Pierre Guillaume but i do like Oliban from Phaedon. I live in the EU, thanks for the draw. #superlady

  • The pictures in this post are great! And I love the idea of Superlady. My mother-in-law was one. I always think of her with love and admiration and respect and smiles. I like several of Pierre Guillaume’s creations, including Drama Nuui and Arabian Horse. If, as Robert says, you must like big florals, then count me in. Live in USA.

  • Interesting fragrance. Haven’t tried any Pierre Guillaume Parfums
Great review and pics to go with it. I’d like to check this out and it will make a great gift for someone. #SuperLady of course, my Mother.
I would say most Mothers. Thanks

  • That candy apple accord sounds amazing. I have never smelled any Pierre Guillaume- a travesty!! I am in the US.

  • Michelyn is our super lady! Great review Robert! The bigger the Floral the better for me. #superlady

  • Very energetic and vitaminised article about amazing scent for powerful ladies. I loved the description of different olfactive textures. My #superlady is, of course, my mother (who else that can be?)!
    Thank you!

  • I have never tried anything from this brand, but this one sounds very nicely the base of the review. I live in Europe. Thanks for the chance.

  • Of course my Mom is my “Superlady”. I never realized how super she truly is until after I became a mom! She has super powers!! I love gourmands, so a floral gourmand must be fantastic. I did go a little too sweet in the beginning of my fragrance collecting, so I am more careful now. I’m not a fan of eating candy apples, but think it probably works in this combination. Thanks for the draw. US.

  • Yes!!! What a fabulous and hardcrack-candy tribute to Women who have touched his life in I’m sure many different ways! One of these ladies has also been an inspirition to me… EIC 😉 Kudos Pierre for your creative and acknowledging spirit. I would lovvvve this one, just because I have been influenced by many Superladies in my life, and would enjoy the energy behind his intent.

I really love Magnolia and this sounds like a winner. Roberts’ review is awesome as always. I’ve never tried anything from this house, but i really would love to win this one. My superlady is my daughter who has been with me and supported me through a very devastating experience. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Magnolia can appear so different in perfumes. This one sounds very unique and stronger than the flower is usually represented. I find PG’s perfumes very interesting and I would love to experience this. Thanks for the draw. USA

  • Richard potter says:

I want to smell like Michelyn!!! I love all of my Pierre Guillaume gems. This one sounds fab, though the magnolia apple combo sounds unusual. Thanks, Robert. USA

  • One of my favorite Perfume Houses. I own the gorgeous Mio Bjao which I treasure. I also love many other in this line. Iris Oriental, Brulure de Rose, Bois Blond,Cadjmere. A great gourmand always peaks my interest, especially a floral gourmand. Would love to be able to try Superlady. I am in the US.

  • The magnolia note in this sounds great – I love the scent of magnolia grandiflorum flowers in the summer, but I know there are a lot of types of magnolias. My favoirite one by PG is Musc Maori, it’s a beautiful creamy milk chocolate, musk and honeysuckle nectar scent. My superlady is my mom 🙂 I live in the USA.

  • Thanks for the review and draw!

So, the magnolia note sounds quite appealing now that I have smelled a real magnolia (actually a couple of varieties). But overall I don’t think I would go for this scent if it were not a PG creation. Big florals wear me more than I wear them. However, Iris Oriental and Bois Blond are two of my favorites, and many of the scents that I have tried just kinda work on me even if I don’t expect them to.

I kinda want to be my own superlady but don’t think I’m there yet.

  • Lovely review, I love magnolia and in Superlady perfume I love in Roberts’ review the part where it mentions:
¨Superlady is a candy apple and vivid rainforest magnolia floral that is not for the very young, but rather the accomplished woman who’ conquered the art of “Adulting” and is at the peak of her performance, physically, mentally, and sexually…….. A “take-no-prisoners” fragrance, Pierre Guillaume Superlady will turn heads at the office, club, on the street, or at home. If you love big florals as I do you’ll want this. Trust me.¨

  • I love Robert’s description of this being a “take no prisoners” fragrance and the fact that he recommends it for a lover of big florals makes me want it even more! My favorite PG would be some from his Cruise Collection, Paris Seychelles and Long Courrier. I am in the U.S. and my #superlady is my sister.

  • I have never been exposed to a fragrance by Pierre Guillaume and I don’t know why when he has such a long list of accomplishments at such a young age. I need to address this lack on my part! Robert got my attention with “accomplished woman who’ conquered the art of “Adulting” and is at the peak of her performance” when so many fragrances now seem to be geared towards such a wide market that they don’t really have much to them! This does sound different! My super lady is Stella who influences me in so many ways- to this day so many years after she herself has passed along and SHE was no shrinking violet! I live in the USA. #superlady

  • Love that artwork of Marilyn Monroe! The notes of this fragrance sound delish! I am not familiar with Pierre’s fragrances so I couldn’t name a fave. My #superlady is my #Mom.
    I live in the U.S.
