Parfums de Marly Percival Review (Hamid Merati-Kashani) + A Horse of a Different Color Draw

Sir Percival is is one of King Arthur's legendary Knights of the Round Table. First made famous by the French author Chretien de Troyes- via Wikipedia

Creative Director Julien Sprecher founded Parfums de Marly in 2009 and continues to draw his inspiration from the past, specifically the grandeur of 18th Century French elegance, with the theme of equestrian and dressage transformed into perfume. Each fragrance is named for a horse or carries the leimotif of the noble animal, and the many breeds throughout the world. We have been fans since the debut in the USA in 2013.

In 2016 and 2017, Sr.Contributor Sebastian Jara reviewed Layton and Layton Exclusif two of his favorites for cooler weather. In his review of Parfums de Marly Percival, composed by Hamid Merati-Kashani of Firmenich he notes that Parfums de Marly Percival is garnering a lot of buzz in the fragrance community and is marketed as the house’s first “ marine scent”. Percival is a departure from any perfume from the House in his opinion;  it is fresher and more aromatic" than previous offerings. For Sebastian, the fragrance really warms up on the skin later in the development, with a woody (clearwood© the very first fragrance ingredient designed through White Biotechnology; Clearwood® is the 21st century’s answer to patchouli) spicy dry down, that he finds intoxicating, especially after a long day of running all over town.

  • kilastyle_pix says:

Sebastian’s review was awesome as all his videos are. Just hearing his review made me want to run out and purchase this bottle today. If the dry down is that amazing I cant wait until I have this into my collection.

  • I watch Sebastian all the time. I’m a big fan of how he describes the scent profiles of fragrances. I own a bottle of Layton and love it. Hopefully Percival can become my new office scent.

  • He’s one of the best reviewers on YouTube. Sebastian is honest and sincere. I’ve been looking forward to trying this one. White Plains, NY

  • yungcherrypops says:

Love Sebastian’s reviews because he’s always concise, to the point, and describes everything really really well. Love Parfums de Marly and would love to try Percival out; it sounds wonderful! Gadsden, AL

  • KenanIvoryJames says:

Great review Sebastian. I think you do a very good job overall verbally describing how fragrances smell. I am just getting into Parfums De Marly, I have samples of Layton and Herod on the way. It would be great to try Percival also. Thanks again for the great reviews and guidance to this newbie.

  • Love Sebastian’s video. I would love to try this. I have not tried any Parfum de Marley. Sounds Heavenly! I live in California.

  • I really like Sebastian likes it even though it is different than the usual Parfums De Marly. I do enjoy Layton and hopefully will like this as well!

  • I enjoyed Sebastian review. Always very interesting and beautiful.
    Thank you, Sebastian!
I like aromatic fragrances, and as Sebadtian said Parcival not so marine fragrance as mentioned in release, but more aromatic.
I like PdM, but mostly Layton, Herod.
    US

  • doowtnehpets says:

I liked Sebastian’s description of the dry down on this. Love PdM. My favorites from the ones I tried are Oajan, Habdan, Darley and Layton. There really isn’t any from them I dislike.

  • I always like watching his videos. He seems to have a very similar taste to me so whatever he says sounds like a verdict to me.
    Thanks Sebastian!

  • Lilteddy808 says:

Enjoyed Sabastian’s review. Surprised the Fragrance is mass appealing yet extremely well done and original. Can’t wait to get my nose on it.

  • Always enjoy Sebastian videos. Great depth and details from the information he puts out. A very solid reviewer!!!

  • Jesse Livingston says:

I just recently got into the fragerance journey and a big reason for it is because of Sebastian and a few other reviewers . But Sebastian in my opinion is one of the best reviewers on youtube and I am always very well informed after watching his stuff. I personally have never had a Niche cologne in my collection & I would LOVE to say this was my first one. The description of this scent sounds right up my ally! Also congrats to the wonder ful at PDM & your success. Also I am from Jacksonville, FL USA

  • Sebastian is always so knowledgeable! What I liked the most about his review is his honesty. PDM considers Percival as a marine fragrance but Sebastian believes it’s more of an aromatic woody fragrance. I’d love to own this crowd pleaser! Arkansas

  • Love Sebastian’s reviews. He tends to be extremely honest with what he likes and doesn’t sugar coat.
Love Layton but think this would be my “everyday” scent.
I’ll get my nose on it one day!

  • Sabastian is a pro, love watching his reviews. The way he breaks down a scent is like watching Picasso paint the Two Women Running on the Beach, breath taking. I hope to get my nose on Percival, Im a lover of Layton and Pegasus.

  • Sebastian did an excellent review, as always. Her always gives quick and detailed reviews. Percival sounds like a great addition to the Parfums de Marly house. I already enjoy Layton, Herod, and Pegasus. Would love to give Percival a try. Thank you for the chance to win a new bottle!

  • I agree with Sebastian. Dry down is so important when wearing a fragrance. I hope to try this soon. I hope this is better than Layton.
    Thank you

  • I loved Sebastian’s review. Especially the story about coming back to the coat he sprayed and how he felt about the drydown. I have Parfums de Marley Layton, it’s the only frangrance from the house I’ve smelled, so it is currently my favorite.

  • Really enjoyed Sebs review on percival,I love how you get a good representation of what the fragrance is it really helps us crazy blind buyers make a more calculated risk 🙂 . I do like a bunch of parfums,de marly fragrances they are a safe choice for buyers, they smell great very rich and opulent .non offensive good performance ,favs are Habdan, herod and Oajan :)…. thanx 4 giveaway !
    U.S. here !!

  • Just watched Sebastian’s review. This sounds really good and saw that he really enjoyed it. Especially the dry down. Love to check it out and hopefully own a bottle one day. Ive only tried Herod by PDM so don’t have a favourite currently. Thanks for the giveaway. California

  • Love watching sebatians reviews. Pdm is one of my favorite niche houses, my favorites are herod and layton. Can’t wait to get my hands on Percival. From NY

  • I would like to win this and garner some compliments like Seb gets. I have some Herod that is very nice. US

  • Enjoyed Sebastian’s review, as always. Very much liked the his notes description in the video. Would love to have a bottle!

  • SaltyAZTubers says:

Sebastian’s reviews distill such a vast knowledge of scents and perfumers into easily digestible bites, much like the sous vide of fragrances! I love wearing Layton and Herod, but my favorite PdM scent to date is Galloway, so I’m truly looking forward to Percival.

  • Great Review I like how Sebastian described the dry down. Really looking forward to trying this I love Herod

  • Oooooh I’m dying to try this fragrance! I got my husband Layton for his birthday and he loved it! I hope this one is just as good! Curious about that Woody dry down that Sebastian was talking about! He definitely gets me so excited about new fragrances!

  • love your videos keep up the good work Videos very informative and very helpful for me since I’m starting to get into the Cologne world Thanks for all your help

  • Love Sebastian’s reviews! I liked his enthusiasm for the drydown, and I found the notes very attractive as well. I’ve never tried anything from the line though. I live in CA.

  • I’m a big fan of PDM. I’m glad that they started to do some freshy fragrances. I love when Sebastian uses words like “intoxicating”. He’s honest and upfront. My favorite though is still Pegasus..

  • Beth Ann Smith says:

I love Sebastian’s reviews. I love his honest and candid impressions. The bottle is just gorgeous in cobalt with the silver top. I live in Georgia, USA. Would love to have this bottle!

  • Beth Ann Smith says:

I absolutely love Sebastian’s reviews. This looks like a great offering. The cobalt bottle with the silver cap is very distinctive. I live in Georgia. USA. I would love to have a bottlte.

  • Sebastian’s enthusiasm is great! I know he’s not a fan of aquatic fragrances so it was great to hear him say that he liked this one as I’m not a huge fan fan of aquatics either. Entertaining as always!

  • Just Add Light says:

A PdM marine fragrance? I suppose that explains the blue… My favourite from the house has always been Layton Exclusif, but I still haven’t smelled Carlisle and I hear that one is a must. But since Sebastian mentioned that Percival is the freshest from the house, (and with an intoxicating drydown), that got me intrigued. Galloway definitely needed a partner. Love how he matched his shirt colour too. lol Maybe one day we’ll get him to take off that hat. lol From US.

  • I luv Sebastian reviews , very knowledgeable of fragarances!! Parfum de Marly’s is one of my favs. Love Pegasus, layton and Herod!!

  • Hey all! I enjoyed Sebastians review of PDM Percival because it summed up what the fragrance is, to where I could visualize and understand it. All the other reviews have been sorta abstract thus far. Also my favorite pdm is layton 🙂
Thank you for the opportunity to win a bottle of Percival!

  • Sebastian is probably my favorite reviewer. I tried this fragrance the other day at Nordstroms and you are right, great freshness in the beginning but the dry down steals the show.

  • Gina Tabasso says:

This sounds lighter and brighter than most of their other offerings. And, I loved that after I typed this I get to the point in the video where he says it is a departure from their typical offering and is fresh. He mentioned it is inspired by a popular fragrance but I am not sure which that is. I’ve tried a number of PdM and find them okay, not amazing. The one I like the most, but not love, is Hamdani. I’m still trying them on for size.

  • Southernboy says:

Sounds a nothing great release by Parfum De Marley. Sebastian is always so knowledge and insight on his reviews. I would to agree with Sebastian Parfum De Marley considers Percival as a marine fragrance but Sebastian believes it’s more of an aromatic woody fragrance. Thank you, Live in the US

  • Another great review Sebastian! Happy that fall is finally here to rock Herod again. Fingers crossed for the Percival giveaway!

  • middleagedandmixed says:

Sebastian talks about how it’s all about the dry down which interests me. I like a good dry down. My favorite Parfums de Marly fragrance at the moment is Herod.

  • I enjoy watching Sebastian’s videos. Not only does he deliver great content, he is also very pleasant to watch and classy. I am huge fan of Parfums de Marly and love my Carlisle and Delina. Hope I win Percival! I am from NY

  • Great review by Sebastian. Percival sounds like a crowd pleaser, and it’s UNISEX! I love Oajan by PDM and would like to try Percival. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! USA

  • kdavidtaylor says:

Love Sebastian and his insight. He always brings pure and honest content, which I really enjoy. Been dying to try this and really hope I win! Cheers!

  • I like he said that its a easy fragrance to wear and unisex I thought it was for men, I love the notes and how he really explains how the fragrance smells over time ans the dry down! i also wish he would have named the fragrance he believes this is modeled after. I live in the USA and I do not have a favorite fragrance from Parfums de Marley just yet!

  • Great video as always Sebastian. I am really curious about this one since it’s been hyped a lot in the last month and i like a lot of juices from Parfums de Marly house. My favourites for now are the mighty Herod and the unpopular Habdan. Thanks for the draw, USA.

  • Love how Sebastian’s reviews are always so calm and informative, almost in a soothing way! My go-to reviewer.

  • Simple yet effective review Sebastian! Thanks! The other bergamot based fragrance I like from this perfume house is Pegasus.

  • I always love Sebastian’s reviews because he describes every detail and goes straight to the point. And their is always something new to go home with.
I don’t have any Parfums de Marly favorites.
    I live in California.

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

Iam a big fan of this house. My favs Pegasus and herod.
Sebastián s review perfect as usual and Id love to try this one Great review Miami Florida Thanks

  • From Sebastian’s review, it seems Percival is the most versatile of PdM parfums. My favorite is Herod. I am in US.

  • Chuck Goodpaster says:

Sebastian is one of my favorite reviewers. I believe he’s always honest with his opinions.

  • Christopher Williams says:

I am a big marly fan and Herod is my favorite. I like that Sebastian was so honest and Shar it was like others until the drydown

  • I’ve only been able to smell Herod from PDM, but it was definitely very good. Percival sounds very nice from Sebastian’s review

  • Sebastian enthusiasm about this one has my interest piqued. Love the house. Particularly Herod and Layton. Looking forward to trying more.

  • I like that Sebastian had a positive impression and spoke of Percival in a good light but also didn’t make it out to be a stunning innovation. I sampled Percival and it’s a great scent but nothing ground breaking. Likewise, it performs well but I didn’t find it at all to be beast mode like some other reviews have said. It’s a great offering for PDM as it really ads something different to their lineup.
My favorites are Layton, Layton Exclusif, Herod and Carlisle.
I am looking to get Galloway and Percival 🙂

  • Thank you Sebastian! Finally someone who can pronounce the name correctly. I really want to try this one. I have 11 PDM bottles and need to add this one soon. Herod is still my favorite.

  • Really enjoyed Sebastian highlighting that Percival doesn’t lean heavy on the marine side. So many fragrances have leaned on marine accords to play it safe.

  • Sebastian always gives thorough reviews, but this review he seemed more excited than normal so I’d really like the chance to win a bottle of this stuff. My favorite from PDM so far is Layton Exclusif.

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews as they are specific and give one a good idea of how the fragrance will perform and smell. I’ve never tried any perfumes from this house, but this certainly sounds interesting. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US

  • Sebastian presented his review for Percival in a succinct and enticing manner–it was clear to gather that he really enjoys this fragrance, perhaps even more so than he anticipated. I have seen this very sentiment floating around the community surrounding this new release, and that has certainly garnered my intrigue. I would love to experience this fragrance. Cheers from Oregon.

  • Always great reviews by Sebastian! Would love to give this a try **Cross them fingers** cheers to you, cafleurebon for making this giveaway possible.

  • Troy Bornman says:

Always watch and enjoy Sebastians reviews. Percival sounds like one I would like. So far have Herod which I like a lot for fall.

  • Love all of Sebastian’s content. His lists. His guests. All of it is top notch. He’s usually first to a lot of the new things the fragcomm is curious about, like this new release. I’m intrigued by his suggestions that PdM touts this as a marine, but it’s not aquatic while being a freshy. I own a couple of their other offerings with Layton / Herod / Pegasus fighting for first place. Thank you for making this drawing a possibility Sebastian and CfB.

    Cheers

  • I like the way Sebastian describes the scent, it has me excited to try it. I’m a huge fan of the PdM house, my favorite from them is Habdan, even though Herod and Layton get all the love. Cheers from Indiana, USA.

  • Sebastian’s reviews are always great!!!
i am intrigued by Sebastian comment, that Percival is very easy wearable and compliment getter. About that show the pyramid of this perfume- lavender, musk, citruses, cinnamon!!
I like Pegasus, Herod and Layton.
    USA, DE

  • I’ve never smelled any fragrances from PdM but I’ve been seeing YT reviews and I’m dying to try it. Sebastian’s review makes me want to try it even more. I just love his reviews. The notes sound so gorgeous. The drydown of nutmeg and tonka sound so perfect for Fall!
I live in the US (Pennsylvania)

  • Another great review by Sebastian! I have learned more about niche fragrances on his channel than any other out there.

  • mrfantastic803 says:

Sebastian’s review was straight to the point and very informative! Really enjoy his work. Parfums De Marly is one of my favorite houses, and Carlisle is the best of the bunch!! Looking forward to more great content!!

  • I look at many reviewers on YouTub and Sebastian’s reviews and presentation is always top notch and classy. His reviews various type of fragrance high end and affordable and what ever fragrance he’s reviewing you can see his passion for fragrances. He describes each individual of Parfums de Marly Percival make you think this fragrance fits my day to day life style and suitable for for the State of Florida. Great Job.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s YouTube review for his vivid description on the fragrance. My current favorite from the house would have to be Herod.

    Thanks Sebastian and Cafleurebon!

  • Just discovered him. I like how he is straight to the point and gives some real life examples. Hope to get my nose on percieval I’ve only smelled herod which I love.

  • This fragrance sounds so intriguing to me! It’s right down the line of my favorite type of fragrance. Those basemotes have me really excited! They sound so good!!

  • Solid review Sebastian. PdM really knows how to package their fragrances. My current favorite is the tobacco forward beauty that is Herod. I can’t wait to break this out when Winter comes. Cheers from CT

  • Always love Sebastian’s reviews, this one is no exception. I have always like aquatic scents, tho I have branched out as I’ve learned and sniffed more. Don’t have any favs from Parfums de Marly, but I remember that Sebastian has some favorites from them. Thank you for the generous draw, I’m in the us

  • Shuvo Rahman says:

Sebastian! You inspired and re-ignited my passion for Niche Fragrances and did a blind buy of Nishane Istanbul’s Hacivat based on your review and did not regret it. Earlier last month also picked up TF Tobacco Vanille based on your recommendation. Also based on your praise dropped by at the Nordstorm (only chain in Canada to carry PDM) in Toronto and sampled Parfums De Marly’s Herod, Layton and Goldophine. They just received the Percival and did not have a tester. Would love to own bottle of this based on your review. After few winter/spicier fragrances, I am in need of a good quality freshie. How would you rate the performance on this? You said the dry down is amazing….how long does it last on skin…re-application needed?

  • I I recently started watching Sebastian’s channel and love his detailed reviews. His description of Parfums De Marley Percival sounds like a wonderful fragrance that I would love to be wearing. It’s always great to have people say you smell really good! What fragrance is that? Also, the dry down sounds wonderful! I want to smell me too! 🙂 From Pennsylvania. Thanks Sebastian & Cafleurebon!

  • Hi, what I liked in Sebastian video is that he says Percival goes in a different direction from all of previous Parfums de Marly creations, I would love to try it!

  • Hello there.. I enjoyed Sebastian vid is that he mentioned that it’s the freshest Parfums de Marly fragrance to date. He’s always so honest and to the point. Totally enjoy his vids.

  • Of the review, the fragrance sounds like a fresh and spicy one, which often works well together. When fresher scents have a spicier base, body heat can keep the fresher notes lasting much longer, which has a very pleasant interplay with the darker notes. I haven’t really worn any of their scents, even though theyre very popular.
im in the US. Thanks for the draw

  • I do follow Sebastian for a very long time-since very early days of his first Youtube channel called Man Loves Cologne.
Fresha aromatic start , herbs,a bit floral , spicy with musky and woody base…sounds great.
My favorite Parfums de Marly fragrance is Habdan – it’s unreal how good it is…to me at least.I’ll never get rid of it …no way.One of my all time favorite fragrances.I also love Oajan , but i need a new bottle because my girlfrind loves it too.
I follow all @cafleurebon , @lookfeelssmellgreat and @parfumsdemarly on Instagram. The picture with Chris made me sad…i miss this guy a lot.

  • Another excellent review by Sebastian. Interesting description of PdM’s Percival. Now just need to put a smell to his description.

  • Love Sebastian’s review; very down to earth opinions on fragrances….have tried PDM – Akaster & Carlisle…love those dark heavy scents. Would love to take a look at Percival
