On The Radar: UER MI NO ± Suede (Antoine Lie) Fragrance Review + Version Control Draw

The code that programmers write changes often. Bugs need to be fixed, features need to be added, and content needs to be changed. That’s why “version control” has to be used by developers. The same  concept of version control is used by creators of the perfumes. At first the base has to be build according to the draft and the progress continues after that. Nowadays perfumers started to exaggerate that notion and continue to evolve them into new fragrances.

UER MI (wear me) is an Italy based new niche brand launched in 2014. The creators of the brand gathered together a dream team with Antoine Lie, Jean Jacques and Philippe Bousseton  and based the collection around the concept of fragrant fabrics. Indeed the texture and smell of fabrics are present in every creation of the brand.  Even cashmere and latex! NO ±  Suede is, as you might guess, the leather inspired fragrance of the line from the master creator Antoine Lie.  To me, it’s a “version control” of one of Antoine Lie’s previous creations Actually it’s more like an upgrade!

I always expect the unexpected from Antoine Lie. He can capture the smell of every single object in a contemporary way. So creating a suede influenced leather fragrance is a piece of cake for the master perfumeur. NO ± Suede is one of the smoothest examples of a leather fragrance, I have come across. Despite the challenge of creating a perfume around the concept of fabric, NO ±  Suede is easy to wear while being artistic at the same time. NO ± Suede starts with saffron and plum in a dark temper. What a gorgeous opening! Suede and woody notes overtake and shape the character of the fragrance while incense is the supporting act during the story. Antoine Lie did a wonderful job at creating a multidimensional and attractive leather fragrance with gloomy undertones. Woody like synthetics boost the depth of NO Suede.

UER MI isn’t a take no prisoners perfume collection. And NO ± Suede is not a uber powerhouse scent. The fragrance leans to the feminine side a little bit but it also can be worn by a confident man too. NO ± Suede is something distinctive from a typical leather fragrance. Mr. Lie did give the fragrance a unique soul being seductive and smooth at the same time. She’s a hot chic in suede shorts exposing her natural beauty.

You must be wondering what I’m talking about in the introduction section of the review. For me, NO ±  Suede is  Tom of Finland v2. It’s more like an upgraded version of mighty Tom which is also created by Antoine Lie. Subtract tonka bean and vanilla from Tom of Finland and add woods and saffron. They smell(!) like twins since  to my nose or at least v2.first.

UER MI is one of Michelyn and my favorite discoveries at Esxence 2015. Without a doubt the brand is going to get more and more attention since it has a solid concept and distinctive fragrances. If you’re looking for a wearable yet uncommon leather fragrance, give NO ± Suede a try.

  • My most favorite fragrance is arguably Cuiron and Bergan’s review calls uer mi no as one of the smoothest leathers he has come across which does make me intrigued. Plus it is suede inspired too thus there is a high chance it will impress me. thanks a lot for the draw. i am in the US

  • Loved the notes and the notion of an upgraded version of a perfume. Also the fact that it can be worn both by a woman and a confident man because it is both sensual and smooth.
I am a registered reader living in EU and I thank you for this lovely draw and review.

  • I love that NO ± Suede is described as having “gloomy” undertones. How intriguing! Leather is one of my favourite base notes and mixing it with saffron, plum, and woods sounds exquisite. I’d love to try this.

    I live in Canada.

  • I loved Berkan’s description of this line – the fabric theme is captivating. And the notes – leather, incense, plum – are some of my favorites. The code analogy is also interesting – my husband has just started working in programming so this vocabulary is slowly becoming familiar to me, but I would never have thought to apply it to fragrance! I’d love to try this scent – I’m in the US.

  • Great review on this terrific sounding scent. Antoine Lie is an amazing perfumer so I have high hopes for this one. I’m in Canada and thanks for the draw
