The Jacob Javits Center

In any given week, New York City's Jacob Javits Center plays host to numerous trade shows in all areas of consumer and B to B businesses: from Toys, Eyewear, Cars, Art, Gift, Fashion, Wine, Beauty, and Electronics to name a few. This year's NY NOW  Winter 2019 Event, February 3-6th, featured 2,300 brands participating from over 66 countries. Activities over the three days include Transcend Talks and Seminars to enhance the experience.

NY NOW 2019 Winter Event Badge

Looking at trends: natural, vegan and/ or organic are  "the new normal" with most beauty brands but  I noticed was that CBD (Cannabis) was not yet everywhere at the NY NOW 2019 Winter Event (in comparison to the NY Indie Beauty Expo last August).

Inis the Energy of the Sea

Irish fragrance brand, Inis the Energy of the Sea, returns to NY NOW 2019 Winter Event with a new Refreshing Shower Gel, Replenishing Body Oil, and Nourishing Hand Cream to complement its cologne. Inis does good by sponsoring ocean conservation through dolphins and whales research. Bravo!

Baronessa Cali

Family owned Sicilian brand Baronessa Cali has been a premium supplier of Home Fragrance, Personal Care and Hotel Amenities products for over twenty (20) years. Their Baci Baci – Kiss Kiss Candle Collection is made for lovers! The Customized Signature Scent Program was a big draw for them at the  NY NOW 2019 Winter Event.

Tocca with the new Maya and GIA

TOCCA was showing two new collections, MAYA, and a gorgeous Turkish Rose Absolute, GIA (inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe). Both are Eau de Parfum and are available in their signature bottle and in rollerball formats. Also, a Spring Collection of Mini Replicas Trio and Hand Cream Trio were presented at the NY NOW 2019 Winter Event.

Carthusia  and Colori e Profumi di Capri display

The storied house of Carthusia debuted Colori e Profumi di Capri, a unisex collection of Perfumed Water, Aloe Vera, Bergamot, Geranium, and Zagara, with one key ingredient to capture the essence of the Mediterranean. Bergamot was my favorite to transport me there! The perfumed waters are complemented with body wash, liquid soap, and in glycerine soap formats.

The Naked Bee

The bees are back at the NY NOW 2019 Winter Event! Besides Joan's A Keeper, I came across Tennessee based The Naked Bee. Since 2004 they have crafted lotions, shampoos, soaps, and lip balms in over ten scent combinations (Orange Blossom Honey clicked for me) that are all Paraben-Free with NO animal testing… ever. Well done!

Scentual Aroma

Eman Tabbara, CEO  & Founder of Staten Island-based Scentual Aroma introduced me to the brand's hand-crafted collection. They nclude a natural fragrance collection along with a bath & beauty care product line which are all handcrafted in small batches and use the finest organic ingredients and pure essential oils from locally sourced botanical extracts. Eman only uses all natural and vegan-friendly ingredients that are free of petroleum, parabens, and synthetic fragrances.

Bon Parfumeur and CEO, Jose Penalba of AMERIKAS

CEO, Jose Penalba of AMERIKAS, the USA exclusive distributor of fine European brands Bioderma, BerdouesJovoyJeroboam, Floris London, and The Different Company, debuted his latest line, Bon Parfumeur. The collection of 18 unisex Eaux de Parfum are color-coded, spritz by numbers scents and are designed to mix and match. Jose ran me through the line and there were numerous standouts. The scents are all created by renowned French perfumers. The line impressed with me with the concept and he reasonable price points. Indigo Perfumery was an early adapter!!

State Of Mind teas and fragrance collection

Simona Abaton of Abaton Exceptional Luxury Brands curates and promotes niche market European brands presented the highlight of the NY NOW 2019 Winter Event, French tea and fragrance house State Of Mind (Karine Dubreuil-Sereni). SOM is a marriage of fine perfumery with the tasting of scented tea. The ten fragrances (soon to be eleven) are available in perfume, candle, diffuser, and tea format. Launched in 2017 in Europe, Russia, and the Middle East, State Of Mind are now looking toward the U.S. market. I'm all in!

INDIE NOW,Être Bien's CEO, Tori Marinelli, Legacy Shave counter and Legacy Shave Awards sign

NY NOW 2019 Winter Event set up a dedicated area title INDIE NOW as a Platform for emerging wellness, beauty, and apothecary brands. Two stood out.

New York City-based Être Bien, founded in 2017, spreads the message of self-love, self-care, and mindfully integrating healing practices into one's daily routine. The line is all natural, cruelty-free, vegan, and only uses organic ingredients, and are made in small batches. Besides Bath & Body products they carry Ritual Kits, Smudge Spray, Palo Santo, White Sage, and Crystals. Être Bien donates a portion of profits to Mindful Schools, a non-profit organization that brings mindfulness education into classrooms nationwide. Kudos!

Award-winning shaving brand, Legacy Shave is making shaving fun again for men by bringing that old-fashioned barbershop experience into your home. I got a live demonstration with the end result being your face will thank you. A brand on the move.

POO-POURRI counter and PRIVY Collection

POO-POURRI Before-You-Go Toilet Sprays was CEO Suzy Batiz creation as the first natural and effective solution to a universal problem: "poop happens". Since first meeting Suzi Batiz in 2017 the line has expanded immensely with new ancillary product lines. The PRIVY collection was being highlighted. With over twelve different scents, Suzi has you covered. Her YouTube channel is a must watch. Now you are good to go!

Régime des Fleurs, Coqui Coqui Perfumeria Yucatan and Photogenics + Co

New York-based branding and distribution company KVD NYC had the "jus" going. Fragrant friends Kim-Van Dang, Founder/ CEO and partner Anthony Roberts were  so busy selling that they had no time to chat but I did spend quality time with three of their brands that got my noses attention, Coqui Coqui Perfumeria Yucatan, LA-based fashion design house, Photogenics + Co, and LA-based Régime des Fleurs, whose founders, Alia Raza and Ezra Woods were recently featured in our Profiles in American Perfume series.

LAFCO display, Terracotta, and Watermint Agave Candles

Jon Bressler, Founder, and President New York City-based LAFCO is a pioneer in the natural-luxury fragrance market. His approach approximates the traditional European apothecary. He debuted his latest candle releases, Terracotta and Watermint Agave. All candles are hand poured in the USA with a burn time of 120 hours. Natural Luxury with Pure Purpose.

  • Carthusia caught my eye. I seem to forget that house until I remember it. Also, would love to try those products from The Naked Bee. US

  • I’ve always been attracted to Satin glass. So, Inis the Energy of the Sea caught my attention straight away. And that Tocca display…WOW! I’ll be looking into Indigo Perfumery for Bon Parfumeur’s unisex fragrances. Thanks for the opportunity to win a fabulous swag bag! USA

  • Oh, that looks like a lot of fun! Like Steve, the Carthusia caught my eye, too! I’ve long loved their lemony Mediterraneo. And I have to say, Poo-Pourri always brings a smile to my face. (And possibly the person who uses the loo afterwards, too! 😉 ) Thanks for the giveaway, and I live in the USA!

  • Thanks for the report and draw! There are a few brands in the report I’ll be checking out several of the brands mentioned: Carthusia, State of Mind, Coqui Coqui. I’m in the U.S.

  • Looks like Hernando had a great time!!! I most enjoyed reading that a fragrance is being released inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. She is my favorite artist and I visit her museum in Santa Fe every time because the exhibits rotate. I couldn’t even find info on this fragrance from a google search so I will be patient or hopefully win this fun gift bag. Love that Carthusia has a new release coming as well. I have always wanted to try Inis. The 18 color coded fragrances look like fun!! Thanks for the update!!! USA.

  • State of mind brand seems interesting. Fragrance and Tea. The idea is original and I look forward to testing this out. Hernando did a great job with all the details from the show. The swag bag looks amazing Thank you for this draw good luck to everyone.

Nice roundup Hernando and Michelyn! It’s so nice to see more natural fragrance companies – and lots of indies! So many interesting new brands and products. What a way to spend a day (or two). I live in Australia.

  • What a lot of info presented so organized & succinct! Many brands I hadn’t heard of & some I had but didn’t know the details. Quite a bit of this caught my eye because I’m always interested in Carthusia, I have an Abaton called Tailleur that is one of my favorites but that’s all I know of them. What I’ve tried of the Bon has been noteworthy! Great pictures, too! Would be so awesome to win the swag bag & be introduced to so many. Thanks for the chance, in the US.

  • What a lot of work to try and reduce everything that was seen to only a few paragraphs. I was interested in Carthusia as well as Inis and AMERIKAS. Lots of interesting trends and products. Thanks for a most generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • Hi to Kim V-D! I love the Naked Bee products, in the bright yellow packaging! I’ve gone to Cape Cod for decades and loved buying these in the gift shop at the Wellfleet Bay Mass Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary. Best,, Alice

  • What an interesting write-up of an exciting event. I didn’t know that Carthusia made body wash and soap. They must be very luxurious. I am excited to try Inis the Energy of the Sea and GIA from Tocca, inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. I am very curious to know what the GIA stands for.
    I live in the USA.

Always fun to read these trade show trip reports and to find out what is coming available next. I love Carthusia and own several of their fragrances, and have been following The Naked Bee–their Grapefruit Blossom and Honey is on my test list, so those brands most interest me, although I would also love to sample the others featured. It is always fun to get to try things first! Thank you for your generosity, I live in the US.

  • I’m so intrigued by the State Of Mind teas and fragrance collection! What an exciting trade show. I’d lose my mind if I ever was able to attend one. To be surrounded by so many fragrance companies would be a dream come true!
    I live in the USA.

  • Thanks for this great swag bag. So many things at these events. Must be fun. Interested in Inis and the scented tea. It’ll be nice to try them all though. Thanks , U.S
