New Perfume Review: ULRICH LANG NEW YORK Aperture EDP + My Perfume Horizon Draw

Lately I’ve been longing to see the horizon, the kind that offers a clear unobstructed view. Somehow standing in front of an infinite expanse instantly creates a quiet calm that enables me to replenish and reconnect. However, most days the concrete jungle is my landscape, and I start most mornings not with nature, but with my beloved perfume. Perfume is my refuge, my scented horizon, the place where my imagination stirs, and for a moment I get to slow down and inhale, and imagine the possibilities.

Aperture EDP was inspired by a Photo by Photographer Olivia Bee

This morning I started the day with the luminous and pensive Aperture. The scent soon became my perfume horizon; my expanse, and my calm. In a moment I entered a scented world that was both sensual and comforting. Aperture is a woody fragrance with gentle spicy overtones that keep it defined yet delicate. It slowly comes into focus on the skin the way a photo steadily develops in a dark room. Fresh top notes of pink, white, and black pepper surface to meet an aldehydic splash. This fizzy quality soon surrenders to its perfect heart that includes jasmine, honeyed tobacco, and cedarwood; this combination creates a subtle intoxication, and a creaminess on the on the skin. In contrast, its earthy and woody base has a masterful papery dryness about it. Additionally, a subtle animalic quality and a stunning and prominent vetiver note tie the entire fragrance together. An algae-like ambergris and cozy musk complete and add further nuance to this harmonious and perfectly constructed fragrance. I close my eyes inhale Aperture and imagine all things are possible.

Disclosure: I received my sample from Ulrich Lang.

Perfume is a means of escape, to another time or place. It’s armor, a disguise, a secret message to myself that I can choose to share or keep. Thanks for the evocative review, Aperture sounds wonderful

I love waking up in the morning ready to choose the fragrance of the day. Love picking a fragrance to suit my mood. Love some fragrances simply for me. Some I love simply to alter my mood and transport me to a different place. Some fragrances simply as a reminder so someone special. I own and enjoy Lightscape. Thanks Valerie for your take on this new fragrance. In the USA…..

  • If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be a tossup between Nightscape and Aperture (neither of which I have tried, but both sound wonderful!). Thank you for the draw 🙂

  • This newest sounds like it would be my favorite for sure! When I use perfume it is with intention for a specific emotional balance for the day! When a breeze comes up or my body warms it releases to my senses the fragrance along with my intention for the day! Perfume inspires me daily.
Great post and it sounds as if this one is loved by the entire writing team of CaFleureBon! Thanks to Urlich Lang NY for the opportunity on this one. I am in the US…

  • Aperture sounds like something that I would love.Perfume, for me,is a huge part of my life… I am not very good at finding the words to explain this – but I am going to give it a try 🙂 It is almost like all of my memories are wrapped in some sort of scented gauze and even my closet friends and family members memories of me revolve around whatever scent I wore at that time. Sometimes I can use fragrances to lift me up,calm me down, etc. Even during the times when the only way to get through something is to feel the sadness (the anger, etc.) and keep moving forward, certain fragrances fortify me and get me through to the other side of those emotions – they are my constant companions.Thank you for the draw.I am in the US.

  • Your description of Aperture is so vivid, that I instantly started to crave for it. I didn’t smell Ulrich Lang’s fragrances, so, reading your article, Aperture seems to be my favorite.
Perfume is a basic element of my everyday life. If I wear no perfume one day I fill like something important is missing. Like being half naked.
I have several perfumes that fit my several moods.
So, in the evening I prepare 2-3 versions of perfume for the next day, together with the color I would like to wear and ragarding to some kind of rotation of fragrances…. And every morning I chose among those, or totally change mood and take another 3-4 and finally deciding maybe at the 10-th…
During the day I may sniff 2-3-4 samples from my collection.
Perfume gives me energy and inspiration in the morning, and soothing/ calming/ relaxing in the evening.
It is nothing better than, after a hard day take a couple of my perfumes or samples, spritz on some paper or fabric, or on my wrists… and smell them…. All bad is gone !

  • I am not familiar with any fragrance from Ulrich Lang, but having a closer look at the notes, I think that Nightscape would be a favourite, for I love the notes of leather and honey.

    Thanks for the draw!

  • Ifi Genial says:

I think that without my perfume I am half a person, it is an essential part of my life since it states who I am. It inspires me and gives me the strength and vitality I need in my daily life.
As for Ulrich Lang’s perfumes I believe that Aperture would be my beloved one since I felt in love with it while reading the description of this lovely I must say review!
I live in EU and I thank you both for this review and for this draw.

  • From the description it sounds like Aperture would be my favorite – but then I have not had a chance to sample the others:) I’m not sure perfume inspires me; it does comfort, energize and refresh me – as well as give me a lot of pleasure!

  • d3m0licion says:

I’d love to try this new UL, my favorite is definitely Nightscape the best patchouli fragrance for everyday use.

  • FearsMice says:

Lightscape has been on my “to-try” list for a long time, but Nightscape might turn out to be my favorite… Hope to have the opportunity to smell them all one day. Thanks for the draw.

  • I have not tried any of Ulrich Lang’s perfumes, but Aperture sounds lovely.
I know I can make a confession here and not be judged(!) but when I wake up in the mornings I plan my perfume for the day even before my outfit, appropriate to the planned activities. It is something I look forward to each day.

  • Perfumes are an amazing thing. It floors me how different scents can express how you feel, alter a mood, lift of confidence, state of relaxation, a bit of comfort, etc…. I’m always excited to start the day off with a fragrance of choice or just close my eyes and pick a random sample. I have tried Anvers and remember my skin really bringing out the lime and tangerine. Was quite gorgeous. By Valerie’s descriptive detail this sounds like it is sure to please the senses. In the USA.

  • Marcopietro says:

Anvers was my first love among Ulrich Lang’s fragrances, and that’s still at the top of the list.

  • leathermountain says:

Some days perfume is the most inspired thing about my life; other days it plays a supporting role, like the soundtrack to a film; other days I forget perfume entirely when other things inspire more. When that last one happens, I wonder later if I missed an opportunity. 🙂

  • I’ve not smelt any. Aperture is given a lovely description here though.
Inspiration is a rather loaded word. I t
think perfume has inspired me only a few select times. It’s certainly an addiction though…
    ty

  • Pensive. I love the sound of that. Aperture sounds quiet and calming.

I think the right perfume on certain days can inspire me, keeping me sane and allowing me to escape from the madness that is people and work. I can’t stay it helps drive me but I do know for sure, staying staying scented helps dictate my mood.

  • Fazal Cheema says:

wow, what a coincidence that Lightscape was Cafleurebon’s top 25 because it’s on way to me and will be my first introduction to the brand…I was curious due to its powdery effects that some have reported. i am in the US

  • Perfume to me can act as a natural mood enhancer. it can transport you to a different era and time in moments of stress and anxiety, which is great. Perfume also inspires me to be more adventerous in my everyday life.

  • I haven’t smelt any of them but if I had to choose a favorite, it would probably be Lightscape. Thank you for the draw

  • Thanks for the generous draw!
I already have one favorite – Nightscape. It somehow reminds me of Cabochard but leveled-up with lush and brightness!

  • Oh, very interesting review- I have only tried first Ulrch Lang’s perfumy at Liberty, very interesting creation which stood up from the crowd. Hope that Aperture will be equally good!

  • I haven’t smelled any in this collection, however reading about them makes me think Anvers 2 should be my favorite. USA

  • I think I might really enjoy Nightscape. I’d love a perfume that recalls night time scenery/environment. I am in the US.

  • Aperture sounds like it would be my fave- the combination of jasmine, honeyed tobacco, and cedar really do it for me. Perfume inspires my daily life in every way imaginable, but let’s say beginning with my morning run, scent is really front and center in my mind. Just the other day I felt like perhaps I really “got” green fragrances, but what opened my mind happened to be a very wet, green, mossy, sunlit morning, running through a wooded path. Perfume and nature are absolutely intertwined with every step I take. Thanks so much for the draw. I’m in the U.S.

  • Cynthia Richardson says:

Of the five fragrances, I think I would like Anvers the best – a fusion of fresh aromatics and provocative spices, classic florals with modern leather notes, bracing woods and warm ambers.

  • I can’t start my day without a cup of coffee and ..perfume!perfume is an imoportant part of my outfit. without perfume on me I have the feeling, that I’m naked 🙂
I have Anvers, Anvers 2 and Lightscape in my collection and I love them. Ulrich Lang is really a great perfumeur. Nightscape is also amazing scent, I hope soon I will have it in my collection! But Anvers is my favourite one. It’s so beautiful, so complex.. I really hope to win this Aperture bottle, Im sure it’s a fantastic scent I have already a long time already on my radar… I’m in Germany

  • Perfume is the perfect accessory to round out my day. I often have different scents in my wardrobe that I may think about the night before that will perfect for tomorrow. Sometimes, more classy scents make me wear certain type of clothes, sometimes its the opposite – the type of clothes make me reach for the scent to match. Sometimes, if I’m at home and don’t know which scent to put on, I put on special scents that make my mind wonder and imagine.

  • Perfume inspires me in so many ways. It gives me courage, comfort, armor, joy, and the ability to travel when I can’t physically go anywhere. It’s art and science and magic all in one! Would love to try Lightscape. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.
