New Perfume Review: Liaisons de Parfum Resist Me, I Dare You, Stay With Me, No Matter What + Scented Love Poems Draw

Liaison Parfum bottles nana de bary cafleurebon

Liaison de Parfum is a new line of fragrances by artist and perfumer Nana de Bary, who has had an eponymous line of perfumes since 2001. Liaison de Parfum has been five years in the making, and the collection, with names that read like a short, interchangeable love poem are well-executed, with something for everyone.

Resist Me is a surprising perfume, like it is working backwards. It is woody and leathery at the beginning, and very alluring, like getting a big whiff of a sex bomb wearing a leather jacket and vintage patchouli. Then I start smelling a little bit of earth, and the leather gets softer. A few floral notes start peeking out. The perfume says, ”Resist me if you can. Yes, I walked in the room like a tiger, but for you I’ll be a tabby cat.” Purrrr.

Notes: Tangerine, bergamot, immortelle, lavender, iris, geranium, cedar, patchouli, sandalwood, leather, musk

If you resisted Resist Me, there is another line to the poem, I Dare You. Full of spice, creamy, seductive woods and amber, this is a perfume made for nuzzling. Scents like this always get me where I live. As much as I love pretty flowers, give me a good spicy patchouli and I’m hooked. I Dare You, indeed; resistance is futile.

Notes: Hot and cold spices, citrus, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, oudh, leather accord, amber

No Matter What is a 180-degree spin from the first two scents: a lovely fruity floral with peachy, rosy notes that hover above the skin like a layer of chiffon. It’s not all soft petals, though; there is an undercurrent of musk and a cleaner patchouli that give the perfume a little bit of an animalic touch. The aroma above the skin is cleanly innocent, but as you get closer, the animal comes out to play.

Notes: Bergamot, coriander, peach, jasmine, rose, musk, patchouli, vetiver

The notes list for Stay With Me is interesting. I was trying to imagine a salty jasmine and, well, this is it. The amber and vanilla in the base bring a touch of caramel to the salt, so I can say that this is almost a flowery gourmand. Can you tell this is a hard one to describe? As it dries down, it becomes a compelling skin scent, like the lingering perfume after a night of intimacy.

Notes: Jasmine, citrus, salty accord, Rose, lily, orange flower, Amber, vanilla, musk

Nana de Bary

Ms. De Bary has created a line that is equally masculine, feminine, and gender-neutral. My personal favorites are I Dare You and possibly Stay With Me, but they are all well-made, interesting, and modern. Just as an aside, patchouli lovers (I know you’re out there) should definitely try Resist Me and I Dare You, as they have that great earthy patchouli that hasn't been all cleaned up.

Stay With Me sounds most interesting to me since I am always looking for scents sans patchouli, but of course I’d love to score a sample set were I to win a draw! I live in the US.

I Dare You is right up my street as I love earthy patchouli but I’m also in the market for an interesting jasmine so Stay With Me is tempting too. Thanks for the reviews and draw, I’m in the US.

  • Yes we are out here… (patchouli lovers unite). Resist Me appeals to me because I like a good dash of citrus and Sandalwood with my patchouli. Great post as usual Tama.. I am in the US

  • I Dare You…the notes are like a siren song to me! 🙂 they all sound equally lovely. I live in the US. Thank you for the giveaway!

  • Oh gosh, Tama makes them all sound so tempting! I would probably try Resist Me first, with its leather + immortelle note. I love a good leather fragrance!

Thanks for the draw … I am in the US.

They all! are equally appealing, so my pick of the moment would be No Matter What – because yt is craving roses something fierce! lol!! 🙂 Thank you for the detailed write-up 🙂 We live in the USA

  • Nanadebary Bronze was one of my first niche loves. I would love to try Dare You because I love creamy woods or Stay With Me because salty jasmine sounds unbelievable. In the US. Tama this was a great piece.

  • They all sound good! I Dare You would probably be the most to my liking (patch and spices), but Stay with Me sounds very appealing. A salty jasmine, with a touch of caramel! I’m in the US. Thanks!

I cannot resist my desire to try Resist Me first! The idea of a perfume working backwards..leather & lavender and earthy patchouli too..definitely the first one I want to try from this line (though I Dare You is running a close second with its nuzzle appeal). Enjoyed the review & I am a US resident.

  • stay with me sounds great – I love a mix of sweet and salty, both in food and in perfume! I am in the U.S.!

  • I think I Dare You might sound the most appealing, because I like spice, but am also drawn to Resist Me, possibly because of that crazy vintage cigarette ad. (Were they selling cigarettes to fans of Josie and the Pussycats?) I’m in the US.

  • I Dare You is the one that’s got my interest. Woods and amber? Yes please. The salty jasmine is tempting as well. I like a salty note in perfume at times. I’m in the US. Thanks for the draw.

  • No Matter What really appeals to me. I love rose and peach together. I am in the US.

  • I was hoping to read a review about these scents! They all are appealing to me, but my first choice would be Stay With Me, a flowery gourmand! I am in the US. Thanks for the great review and draw!

  • No Matter What would be the one I’d tackle first. Something about the peach thrown in with the floral mix intrigues me as I don’t think I’ve ever knowingly smelled a grafrance composition with peach in it.

I’m in the USA – thanks for the draw!

  • I Dare You definitely draws me in! Nuzzly spicy patchouli is like catnip for me. Thanks for the reviews and draw!

  • Stay with Me, looks interesting salty jasmine! I’m intrigued by all of them! I live in the US.

  • Resist Me is the one that appeals most to me, because I love leathers and earthiness and florals, but also because its “backwards” structure sounds fascinating.
