New Perfume Review: Invocation Aigle Bleu (In Collaboration with Michel Roudnitska) Yuutin+ The Five Elements Draw

Aigle Bleu (Blue Eagle) of Invocation has become very dear to my heart,  in his therapeutic and aesthetically arresting approach to perfumery, The 5 Elements deepens my sense of awe. Continuing Chiiyam and Miwah's use as olfactory medicine as well as French inspired structures (he studied with master perfumer and shaman Michel Roudnitska), each perfume  in "The 5 Elements Collection", a collaboration with Michel Roudnitska is formulated for individual constitutions as reflected in nearly every spiritual tradition.

Consisting of Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Sacred Sound, they harken to the Guerlain Eaux strength and projection and show off the synergy of French and First Nation aromatics. Chosen by personal element (within the framework of your choosing: I used my zodiac sun sign and my Ayruvedic dosha, which are both Air.)

Yuutin, the first of the five to be created, is the element of Air (Vent). A respiratory aid is nestled within a glorious geranium cologne. Allow me to attest, as a Libra, with a stellium in Libra, with a Vata dosha so strong I consider Kapha and Pitta merely suggestions… this takes the wind out of me, which is to say I found myself sitting there breathing and not thinking of anything in particular but the beauty and grace of Yuutin.

I hadn't really been analytical of the perfume and I wasn't really marking time for burn off… I was just being.  Which may be exactly what I am unable to afford myself, the stillness of thought- despite years of making the same suggestion to countless others.

Yuutin opens with geranium and the Canadian forest Invocation introduced us to in Chiiyam, and continues with classic cologne ingredients such as rosemary, mint, clove and bergamot. The accords, lovingly arranged by AigleBleu are spot on French classic- making medicine and aesthetics one. More than a sugar coating for swallowing a pill, this is the joy of creating a personal environment within which to thrive.

 Air element is associated with thought and with each of the 5 Elements, AigleBleu shares wisdom from the First Nations, about how calm thoughts can be gentle breezes in our lives, and angry ones hurricanes… but more importantly how we can thoughts can end a story- or begin it: 'Nevertheless, the name that the spiritual elders chose to give to these white people was: “they who appear to be evil,” as opposed to: “they who are evil.” This left them a chance to change, to become better people. They knew the power of thoughts and words and, despite the intensity of suffering inflicted on them, they left the door open so that their persecutors might change.'

Notes: rosemary, Canadian hemlock, balsam fir, red mandarin, abrialis lavender, spearmint, white pine, oregano, clove, bergamot, geranium, Canadian cedar, tansy, wallflowers, goldenrod, and thyme.

    I really enjoyed seeing that someone is blending First Nation wisdom with French perfumery. I’m very interested in the concept of sacred wisdom and medicine being used as a stylish fragrance.
    The story about thoughts and how the White man’s name meant that we have room to change and are mutable is something that will stay with me.
    I associate more with the element of Earth. I try to stay grounded but change can take place.

    I didn’t know Sacred Sound was one of the five elements. Hmm. Given that, I associate with it the most.

    I can only imagine and I know that will not be enough to understand these elements. They have to be experienced and felt to a deeper level of ones self.I just visited the website and I totally resonated with the Water and this statement made me gasp. “Emotion is merely energy in perpetual transformation” yes I said. This was my element. I am also going to buy one of these as a gift for a friend.So beautiful. Thank you Einsof for the lovely review. I am international and registered.

    Yuutin reminds one of being in forest and seems like both airy and green in composition. I cant believe so many people have worked with Roudnitska family. The element I may identify most is Air because some of the super powers I desire have to do with speed and freedom such as the ability to run fast like flash or the ability to fly and all these abilities involve gliding through air whether on land or in air. thanks so much for the draw. I am in the US

    Perfume as “olfactory medicine” makes a lot of sense to me and combining the refinement of French perfume with First Nation aromatics seems like an intriguing path. I identify with the element of air and the sign of Gemini. Thanks for the draw! I am in the US.

    The collaboration between ‘haute’ and native traditions is very interesting. The concept and packaging reflect this very beautifully, also, the design is impeccable. I identify with water, here. I live not far from where AigleBleu are located, too, Quebec CA.

    When Aigne Bleu first contact me about joining the Guild, I was very moved and also elated that a member of the First Nation was working with naturals on the healing aspects of perfume. Then, upon reading of his collaboration with Michel, I eagerly awaited his perfumes, and was moved by them, recognizing the soul work that went into their creation.     I recall reading here about Miwah some time ago. And these 5 interest me greatly with a unique blend of notes, including some like tansy I never heard of. Not being from Canada and never hearing of First Nation before I looked it up. Always good to learn something new. I’m drawn first to the air. USA

    I just spent some time in Canada with a few First Nations people learning beadwork and I have a new appreciation for the precision and depth of the traditions. This is a wonderful draw.

    I am completely taken with this line and so thankful for being introduced to it. I too am a Libra and so immediately went to the blue Eagle shop website and learned everything I could about their line and read everything that they posted about the spiritual background their medicinal application the historical info etc!! Reading what they had to offer on their site was a great lesson to start my week and a wonderful way to start a beautiful morning thank you very much for the beautiful article beautiful artwork and again another new line that I’ve never heard if.     I most appreciated Einsof’s inclusion of the spiritual belief that “calm thoughts can be gentle breezes in our lives, and angry ones hurricanes.” I think that one reason some of us seek out inspirational fragrances is because they help shape our thoughts beneficially. I think my personality is much like Iskutaau (Fire), for better or worse. I’m in USA.

    Einsof’s recollection of trying Yuutin on and just breathing in the moment was beautiful; it sounds like that feeling when you walk into a forest and breathe deep, filling oneself with space and energy. The story about thinking gentle thoughts even in harsh situations, to leave them open to change, sounded a little like ‘your focus determines your reality’ (in Liam Neeson’s voice) and also spiritually humbling.

    Water is the answer I give before any thinking– before I knew my sun sign or any other framework, Id gravitate to it and always find that it restores me. So Niipi is the one I’d identify with, though I don’t know what water means in this. I like how it is always changeable and always itself.

    I enjoyed reading Einsof’s review of Yuutin and rather than the usual analyzsis of the notes, sillage, etc., he “was just being. Which may be exactly what I am unable to afford myself, the stillness of thought”. That’s a powerful commentary on a fragrance. I think I identify my own personality with Water – Nipiiy

    Definitely, drawing the analogy between Chiiyam and Miwah’s olfactory universe & Guerlain’s L’Art et la Matiere series is great way of connecting various approaches to sensual exploration.
    I value the power of connection, as well and ability and skill to connect – to transfer the knowledge, information, feelings, etc, and that makes The Sacred Sound the most alluring to me.
