New Niche Perfume: Jardins D’Ecrivains Orlando – Virgina Woolf Fantasy Inspires the Fragrance

jardins d'ecrivains orlando perfume cafleurebon

Anais Biguine, the perfumer for the niche line Jardins D'Ecrivains (Garden of the Writers) has created a  fragrance collection that delights both bibliophiles and perfumistas alike. For her fifth perfume, Mme Biguine interprets the hero/heroine of Virginia Woolf's 1928 historical masterpiece Orlando, (also a semi bigraphical novel based in part on the life of Woolf's lover Vita Sackville West) who was born Lord Orlando during the Elizabethan Era and awakens in the body of a woman during the 18th century as Lady Orlando.

It is said that when actress Tilda Swinton (who played the adrogynous character in the 1992 movie) read the book she embraced it as a practical guide to life.

Quirky blends with the eclectic and timeless in the new fragrance which is based on the fantasy and adventure of Orlando's life and travels.

"An unusal character comes through in the top notes, before the transcendent heart of the perfume draws you in. The warm base notes conveys the delicate spirit".

Top Notes: Orange, Pink Pepper, Ginger

Middle Notes: Amber, Patchouly, Cloves

Base Notes: Gaiac, Balsam of Peru and Musk

Orlando will be available world wide September 2013 and is an Eau de Parfum for men and women

100 ml/ 85 Euros-$110 USD

  • this is big news indeed! I loved the book and the movie. After watching it I became a true believer of Tilda Swinton. I can’t wait to try this and see how the story is reflected in fragrance.

  • I don’t know this line but this perfume sounds like something I would love. The notes do sound perfect for fall, as ringing wrote.

  • TotallyDaft says:

Very interested in this fragrance as I love the story and adored the movie. Was rather amused when I originally read the base notes as:

Base Notes: Garlic, Balsam of Peru and Musk

THAT would have been interesting indeed!

  • Oh lordy, another one i will need to have..I already own all but George and love them. this one sound fab also.

  • I went to the play Orlando recently, and it was the strangest thing I’d ever seen. Not because of the gender bending, but the dialogue seemed like nonsense! Guess I don’t know much about Virginia Woolf…
