Perfumer Alexandra Balahoutis introduces Strange Invisible Perfumes’ Reserve Series, an expanding collection of rare-edition fragrances selected from a small trove of formulas in the Strange Invisible Perfumes vault. Each perfume is composed of organic, wild crafted, biodynamic, and hydro-distilled essences, they are hand-blended in very limited batches, set into a base of custom-distilled esprit de Cognac, aged for six months, and decanted and bottled in Venice, California. The Strange Invisible Perfumes Reserve Series fragrances are unfiltered and truly rare, in that they are available only upon occasion. The first Reserve Series fragrance to be released, Emerald Moss is a unisex fragrance featuring lush notes of Brazilian maté, fresh ginger, temple mandarin and hydro-distilled rose.
“The inspiration for this fragrance was originally sparked by a shipment I received of maté extract that I had never worked with before,” says Balahoutis. “It had a dense, jewel-green color that made me think of South America and moss-covered ruins. I couldn’t wait to work with it. I knew it had to be the star of the formula, but I wanted to surround it with an extensive cast of stunning essences. I built notes of hydro-distilled rose, temple mandarin, neroli and khus ruh around the maté. Rose complemented it especially beautifully and added elegance to its green scent and unmistakable texture. The finishing touch was a note of fresh hydro-distilled ginger. This really magnified the top notes while adding sparkle and a hint of the exotic.”
The botanical notes within Emerald Moss include essences sourced from across the globe: Maté, hydro-distilled from the leaves of a southern Brazilian tree, Fresh, organic ginger grown on a family-owned farm in Kipahulu Valley on Maui, Temple mandarin, distilled from fruits on a biodynamic farm in Maui, Lavender grown and hydro-distilled on an organic farm in Santa Barbara County, Khus ruh, an essential oil distilled from the roots of wild vetiver plants grown in the Himalayan foothills in India, Hydro-distilled organic rose essence, obtained from the first distillation of the flower.
