New Fragrance Review: MUGLER Les Exceptions HOT COLOGNE (Jean Christophe Herault) 2017 + Coffee in Cologne Draw

Jean-Christophe Herault and MUGLER HOT COLOGNE

The Mugler Les Exceptions Collection “reinvents” classic fragrance categories such as Oriental, Chypre, Fougere, Floral, Leather Musk and Wood. MUGLER's latest in the collection HOT COLOGNE is a  new take  on one of the oldest classification of scents–Colognes (most historians attribute its origin to the late 1600s, when an Italian immigrant named Jean-Paul Feminis settled in the German town of Cologne and named his mix of herbs flowers and citrus after his new city). “Eau de Cologne has always been associated with cleanliness, reassuring contentment and even childhood memories. I wanted to give a new twist to this comfortably “purring” mechanism by introducing a green coffee note. This charming disruption arouses the senses with its edgy temperament and stylish signature.”-Jean-Christophe HERAULT

HOT COLOGNE is a wonderful melange of the traditional notes of citrus mixed with spicy ginger and notably green coffee. The Eau de Parfum concentration belies the myth that colognes have no longevity. –Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief.

I enjoyed this review by Sebastian, as always…he is so down-to-earth and talks about fragrance in the way most of us do…very understandable. I have not tried this but own many Mugler scents…my favorite is Alien Essence Absolue which is, of course, far from a fresh scent so I am curious to try Hot Cologne. I am in the US and greatly appreciate the opportunity to win this.

  • Really enjoyed Sebastian’s review. He is always on point and gives an honest review. Ive always been a fan of Mugler and this one intrigues me especially with that base. Thank you for doing this giveaway.

  • While a long time subscriber to Sebastian’s channel, my love for Mugler is new. He has introduced me to coffee scents and now I try to always sample what he reviews. While it provokes thoughts of books and libraries, a coffee scent is a comfort that is often limited to the cooler months. Hot sounds like a perfect mold breaker. Thank you for the contest.

  • Patrick Echevarria says:

Love the original Mugler Cologne as it is a staple in my summer rotation year after year. Curious to try this one. Sebastion described this as almost similar to the original Mugler Cologne with just the spicy notes added. Interesting. San Diego

  • The video reviews are always a nice change of pace from the purely written ones. I already love Mugler’s A*Men Pure Coffee, so I’m VERY interested in this new cologne. US

  • Never smelled green coffee in a fragrance very interested. And longevity im curios about on my skin. Oklahoma

  • Daniel Oshima says:

Sebastian’s reviews are always insightful. My favorite aspect of his review and what I’m really curious about is how “green coffe” smells. I’ve roasted my own coffee and never noticed the green beans having any odor. I’m assuming then that this is some artistic license being exercised here and it’s intriguing to me.

  • Paulie Peanuts says:

Would love to try this one. The green coffee note added to the mugler cologne type dna sounds very interesting. I enjoy fresh scents that combine citrus and some spice like ginger coffee etc.. Sounds up my alley.. Would be great to win this! Thanks for the giveaway .. NYC here.

  • Kenudigme1 says:

Enjoyed Sebastian’s review very much of this new composition by Mugler. I’m only familiar w/ Angel , Pure Havane, Pure Malt and Mugler cologne, but this one sounds extremely interesting. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Bobby Freeman says:

I’m very curious on how the Green coffee works
With it… I will like to enter in the giveaway!!!!
Thanks and congrats on who ever win the giveaway

  • kevinjackson says:

First and foremost, I know that I can trust Sebastian’s opinion on the fragrance. It was interesting to hear what he had to say about the green coffee note as I thought it would be a weird combination as well. While notes like coffee aren’t typically used in colognes (as they tend to be citrus based – e.g., Colonia by Acqua di Parma), I’m curious as to how it would evolve on my skin. The only other fragrance I have tried from the Mugler Les Exceptions line is Over the Musk. While I did love it, I just didn’t feel as if it was bottle worthy, especially in comparison to By Kilian’s Straight to Heaven. Thanks for the giveaway, Cafleurebon. Good luck everyone!

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

I enjoyed how Sebastian compared it to Mugler Cologne, but with a longer lasting spicy base. I remember liking Pure Malt as well.

  • I have a subscriber to his channel for sometime now.
In this particular review I liked that mentioned the slight differences and what he liked etc.
I love coffee, and it in a summer perfume sounds like a winner.

    Hope to work.
    In USA

  • Valente Leanos says:

Always love what MUGLER is doing and has done in the past. This new Hot cologne sounds absolutely lovely, as it sounds like a mugler cologne intense of sorts.

  • Cardamom is one of my favorite notes in perfume. And there is something about coffee I love when it is not mixed with chocolate are turned into a gourmand. Glad to know this line is working toward modern versions of traditional structures.

  • Frederick Helton says:

Spicy but fresh frags are up my alley for summers scents. Great video review, as always.

  • Sayed hassan hashemi says:

I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews specially i like the way he breaks down the notes n gets the same notes that i get from colognes

  • chanel castro says:

I am a huge fan of Mugler. I discover this line(expensive) now do to Sebastian review and i am new to the niche frag comunity. i am getting addicted thanks to him lol. I love Cardamom I love spicy frags. I am addicted to coffe therefore. i am dying to try this. best regards from FLoridA

  • NiceVULady says:

Sebastian always breaks down the composition of the fragrance. I’m not familiar with any of the Mugler scents, but this sounds really wonderful. I love giner and spices. Thanks for the draw. I live in the USA

  • Jose cerrillo says:

love the original mugler cologne I am super curious about this new hot mugler cologne especially about that coffee note hopefully I win i live in California

  • Sebastian is always on point with his reviews – honest and straight forward. My favorite from the Mugler Les Exceptions line so far is Cuir Impertinent, but I would love to try Hot Cologne.

  • Sebastian is great as always! Mugler being a patchouli dominant fragrance which I have really enjoyed in the past with A*men and Malt… I would love to try HOT… I do live in the USA… THANK YOU!

  • Sebastian is great as always!
I’m really curious about this one, and would love a chance to win! Thank you for all you do!

  • I love petitgrain but the cardamom and coffee in a citrus herbal scent is intriguing. Question: Sebastian said that you don’t notify the winners. How do I know if I won? I entered past giveaways and didn’t know to check. A central list of giveaway winners would be helpful.

  • I have Angel and I love it! But I would love the opportunity to win this bottle of Hot Cologne for the Sumer months!

  • I would love to win a bottle of Hot Cologne for the hot Summer weather! Thank you!!!

  • Loved how he talked about how the spicy notes interact and still work in hot months. He explained the notion of “hot” cologne very well.

  • I’ve always been a fan of the Mugler designer line, and somehow I didn’t know about the Les Exceptions line (thanks Sebastián), so I’m eager to try this and would love a bottle!

  • Michael McDonald says:

I enjoyed how he admitted that he had his doubts about the coffee note, because I too have my doubts. I haven’t tried it, but i would love to. My favorite Mugler is either Pure Malt or Mugler Cologne

  • The review was great. I love the fact they had alot notes and it’s easier to maintain. I live in Florida

  • chris smith says:

I really enjoy the note breakdown in Mugler Fragrances very beautiful & unique great review from Sebastian!!!

  • ntabassum92 says:

Love Sebastian’s reviews! I like how he compared it to the original Mugler Cologne. By the name, I would have just thought the fragrance was referring to the temperature in which one would wear it. Never would have guessed it had spicy notes. I love many Mugler fragrances – Angel, all the Aliens that I have tried are heavenly, the Amen line…such a good house.

  • malakay_21 says:

He had me at the green coffee accord…anything with coffee it’s a must for me. I love Pure Malt, Havane and Ultrazest.

  • Daniel Bourne says:

Great review. I love most of the Mugler that I have tried although never anything from the Les Exceptions range. I would love to try this and I live in York, Maine.

  • Looks very interesting, especially with the green coffee note. I would love to try this out. Pennsylvania.

  • I stayed awsy from Mugler cologne because it seemed too flower based, but this seems like it has a better balance.

  • Jordan Rieber says:

This sounds both hot and cold with coffee?
Would love to win. Big Mugler fan with Amen and their cologne
    Thanks Cafleurbon and Sebastian

    I live in Florida

  • fazalcheema says:

Sebastian helps me understand the rationale behind the fragrance’s name since it has notes that are both cool and warm such as green coffee and orange blossom. I have not tried any from latest Les Exceptions though I have one from previous exclusive collection. I have many from Mugler and it is hard to choose but my most favorite in my collection may be Angel Extrait. I am in US.

  • Love Sebastian’s reviews!!! And I am a BIG fan of the original Thierry Mugler Cologne. Both my boyfriend and I wear it, especially in the warmer months. I discovered the fragrance in 2003 when I was working in the cosmetics department of Nordstrom. I’ve been a fan of it ever since. I try to buy the big 10 oz bottle whenever I can. This Hot version sounds incredible, especially with that green coffee note. I love A-Men/Angel for men because of that coffee note. It smells amazing on my boyfriend. So I would love to win this for the two of us to share.

    I live in the U.S.

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Thanks for the review! Thumbs Up. I like the twist & magic of the green coffee with spiciness what Jara explained.
Thanks for the generosity & opportunity. Would like to participate in the draw by letting my relative address in US.

  • grant doling says:

The review was great. I love Mugler cologne. The new Hot Cologne sounds quite amazing. I would love to have a bottle. Would be absolutely perfect for the heat where I live. I am a US citizen. Thank you.

  • I love how Sebastian does his reviews in general, but here how he described it as magical and how the spices & coffee add to the longevity.

Never even sniffed one Les Exceptions, due to where I live, but would love to try them all. Big fan of Cologne B*Men and Alien here.

  • Sebastian is one of my favorite reviewers and once again he’s sparked my interest. What appeals to me the most is the use of a green coffee note. I definitely need to try this. I’m not familiar with a Hot Cologne. My favorite Mugler would be the original formula Angel Men. I’m in the US. Thank you so much.

  • Gregory Duncan says:

I liked the inclusion of Mugler’s intentions with this line. I’m only familiar with their Angel line so hearing they’re putting their twist on each genre of perfume is awesome. Thank you Sebastian and Cafleurebon.

  • I wil love to own this new Mugler cologne especially here in the hot weather and be one of the first to wear it. I always see what Sebastian’s YouTube channel for the newest colognes and recommendations and this is one is a must for me!

  • xXxrootxXx says:

Sebastian always gives a vivid description like you could almost smell it with his reviews ,hes honest and straight forward.

I like mugler cologne my fav and pure havanne from A*men.

    Im in canada,thnx 4 giveaway

  • As alwaysI enjoyed this review by Sebastian- very nice and understandable.
Unfortunatly, I’ve not tested Mugler’s Les Exceptions Collection. But I find Mugler as very GREAT perfume-brand, because he gave us a new wave in parfumery by Angel.
What a great perfumea are A’Man and his flankers!!!!
I’ll be interesting to test classic cologne with green coffe’s note))
    USA, DE

  • I always love his reviews because of how informative he is about the notes of the fragrance, the inspiration behind it, etc. but I think my favorite thing about this particular review is how many times he was able to say “cologne” in 5 minutes.

  • Sebastian’s reviews are great bc he seems so relaxed and is very knowledgeable. I have tried the chypre in the line, personally it was not what I had hoped for. I would love to try another from the line though. I am in the U.S. (TN).

  • Kenyada.Mckoy says:

Sebastian’s reviews are great because he is always honest breaks notes so people with less sophisticated noses such as myself understand the complexity of the scent. Also this giveaways is very generous. He definitely has me intrigued quite hot Cologne. New Hampshire.

  • gregorysop says:

Man my wife loves coffee…if I could only win this to cover myself in its coffee bliss I would be in for quite a day! Funny how Sebastian is initially awed they added coffee into the mix but claims it works really well especially with the ginger creating the ‘hotness’ Definitely could use some summer heat from Mugler! Thanks Sebastian & Mugler.

While I am a new subcriber to Sebastian. I enjoyed his facial expressions while reviewing the fragrance honestly to me that speak more tham a world. So he got me intrigued since I love spicy perfimes. This one with the coffe note would be an honour to win it. Since I haven’t try this line from the mugler house and I am a huge fun of angel

  • I’m not even sure what green coffee smells like but classic coffee aroma in perfume is generally quite nice. I like many of the Mugler line but Angel will always hold a special place. 🙂 Love to win this new bottle. U.S.A.

  • Jerry Rivera says:

What I enjoyed most about the Hot Cologne review was the clear and vivid description. It really paints a picture of what is sure to become a modern masterpiece.

  • Love him presenting twists on classics. I like this style lot; curious to see what it’s like with the added edge. With exception to Muglar Cologne, I’m very new to this house. Would love to win! Live in Mass, USA.

  • As always Sebastian, nice review,
Interesting frag from mugler , hope i will be able to try it.
Your way describing it intrigued me.

  • doveskylark says:

Mugler seems to be going in a very interesting and experimental direction of re-defining classic scents. Hot Cologne sounds so intriguing with the green coffee notes. I love wearing cologne on hot days. Finding one that lasts has been difficult. Maybe this is the one. I want to try Cuir Impertinent from this line. I like that they sell candles as well.
    I live in the USA.

  • Jose Ochoa says:

Sebastian is one of my favorite fragrance reviewers. I like his style and fragrance descriptions. I own Ultra Zest, Mugler Cologne, and Pure Energy. I will love to try this one soon.

  • Always straight forward reviews form Sebastian. Thanks. Still Mugler Cologne is one of my favorites and this one seems the upgrade of 2001 revision with spices.
Believe me or not, I really need Hot cologne in the heat of South Texas.
Thanks to the Cafleurebon and Clarins Group/Mugler for the opportunity.

  • The great thing about Sebastian’s reviews is that he does not follow the rest of the Fragrance Reviewers crowd on YouTube. Sometimes it is boring watching everyone repeat the same thing about the same colognes over and over again. Sebastian frequently reviews colognes we have never heard of. I was thrilled to see Mugler Hot Cologne via my YouTube subscriber alert. The notes of Ginger, Green Coffee, Citrus, Neroli, Petitgrain are most intriguing. I was smiling watching his review. Green Coffee as a Summer note! Very interesting. Thank you very much for your consideration. Cheers!
