On the 15th March this year, Atelier Cologne will be celebrating it's fifth anniversary. The perfume house is renowned for its devotion to cologne but more fragrances, using an unprecedented 15-20 percent concentration of essential oils. Creative Directors Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel have created a new olfactive family, the 'Cologne Absolue'. To mark this anniversary, Atelier Cologne are launching Pomélo Paradis, composed by Ralf Schwieger. As with every previous fragrance, this latest offering arrives with a descriptive vignette, something to whet the olfactory appetite and set the scene… “Was he a fool to drive all night just for a chance to see her? Perhaps it was adrenaline and the lack of sleep, but as he pictured moments they had been together, the word destiny stuck in his mind. The coral sunrise burned bright and he drove faster. There was no choice but to see her again.”

That coral sunrise is the perfect place to start with Pomélo Paradis. Imagine a bright orb rising over distant mountains, staining the snowy caps with peachy light. Hanging in the air is a cool blast of perfect, bitter-sweet citrus, the clarity of which is stunning. It instantly refreshes the spirit and makes the mouth water. As sunlight starts to creep across the plains below, it highlights the glimmering roof of a silver car, sending up a trail of dust as it hurtles towards the distant silhouette of a fairground, still shadowed beneath the rocky peaks. Slowly, with a paintbrush loaded with gold ink, the arc of the ferris wheel is gilded in sunbeams and the light starts to penetrate into the tents and amusements of the fair. There rises the most delicious aroma of candy floss and orange peel, of fizzy sherbet and red and white swirled sugar lollipops

.From inside one of the tents steps a woman, her red hair burnished to bronze in the sunlight. She moves into the freshness of the morning, a tall glass of steaming mint tea cupped between her hands. She watches the dust trail as it draws closer and closer, her heart fluttering with hope. Could it be him? She stands in the full gaze of the morning sun, waiting…

Pomélo Paradis is a joyful celebration of citrus in all its bright, sparkling glory. After the initial blast of sharp grapefruit and mandarin, the scent becomes more like petals crusted in sugar, blossoming beyond straightforward citrus cologne and into a conceptual vision of a fairground- before anyone has arrived to kick up dust. The sweet spin of a candy floss machine, clouds of pink and peach dissolving into lemonade, mint leaves steeping in Pomelo juices.

Hints of rose and orange blossom cradle Pomélo Paradis' heart and warmth from the amber gives it surprising longevity. There is a certain thrill to be had inhaling this concoction, an adrenaline rush akin to whirling around and around on the back of a golden gilded carousel pony. Or perhaps the pattering of a heart filled with hope and love, that inexplicable connection between two people about to be reunited.

If  you enjoy sunny citrus scents Pomélo Paradis is paradise indeed and a fitting tribute to Atelier Cologne's success story It is an absolute pleasure to wear; fresh, shimmering and instantly is mood lifting, especially this frigid winter with its bone chilling winds, with just a spritz, I dream of warm spring day in Paris and a ride on La Grand Rue de Paris.

Notes: pink pomelo from Florida, mandarin from Calabria, blackcurrant bud from Burgundy, Moroccan orange blossom Bulgarian rose essence mint from China, vetiver from Haiti iris from Tuscany, amber

    Another Atelier draw? Yay! 🙂

My favorite is Vetiver Fatal, but I can’t wait to try this. My favorite part of the review: “…fresh, shimmering and instantly is mood lifting, especially this frigid winter with its bone chilling winds, with just a spritz, I dream of warm spring day in Paris and a ride on La Grand Rue de Paris.”

YES! Here in Seattle during the winter, there are many days when I could use an olfactory trip out of the rain.

  • I don’t have a favorite Atelier, but citrus and mint sound amazing together. I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • I love that she compares smelling this to the adrenaline rush of riding around on the gilded pony of a carousel! Lovely! My favorite Atelier (so far) is Gold Leather – which is my current LOVE.

Thanks for the draw, I’m in the US!

  • Loved Susie’s mention of the adrenalin rush fragrance can provide. She makes Pomélo Paradis sound fun. I’ve been enjoying samples of Cedrat Envirant and Grand Neroli lately, but Orange Sanguine has been my favorite for the past few days. Thank you for the draw!

  • ‘Enjoyed Susie’s allusions to a fairground atmosphere. Vetiver Fatal is my favorite from this house. I reside in the US.

  • This one sounds interesting. I love the vision of fairground and the pictures used to describe this perfume. It’s very evocative. My favorite Atelier so far is Mistral Patchouli.

I’m in Canada. Thanks for the draw.

I love a good hint of mint with my gourmands and AC does citrus openings right. My current favorite is Orange Sanguine. I’m in the U.S. thank you!

  • I love citrus colognes, that’s appealing enough. But it would also be my first rollerball. 🙂 I really like Oolang Infini. US

  • Fazal Cheema says:

Pomelo Paradis appeals to me because it focuses on citrusy elements. Well-done citruses are becoming rare now due to IFRA restrictions. My favorite Atelier creation is Orange Sanguine and Pomelo Paradis has been done by the same perfumer who did Orange Sanguine, i.e Ralf Schwieger. I am in the US

  • Jennifer Witt says:

I appreciated the carousel allusion, as mentioned by other com mentors. I love taking my nieces and nephews on them, what fun! It would be lovely to try a scent that delivers this feeling. My current favorite AC is Trèfle Pur. I live in the US. Thanks.

  • Issue’s review does indicate that Pomelo Paradis would be a perfect winter pick me up! The citrus and amber sound like a great combination. It seems absolutely delicious!
My favorite Atelier perfume is Vanille Insensee. I am in the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • My comment should read: “Susie’s review” Auto correct strikes again! My apologies Susie.

  • Donna Spiegel says:

I do like Citrus scents and this one sounds like yummy, bright, citrusy, sugary wonderfulness all in one spray. This is a must add to the collection! Orange Sanguine has been one of my all time faves from Atelier. I also like Rose Anonyme and vanille Insensee. would love to be lucky enough to win this one 🙂 I’m in the US.

  • The use of oranges and corals both in words in pictures evokes such a strong image of summer, celebrations, and nostalgia. I love winter, but reading this review made me really nostalgic for summer fun and memories!

  • Sounds amazing! I am intrigued by the list of notes. My favorite is Santal Carmin.
I live in the US, thank you!

  • USA- Mint, Rose and Citrus with an amber base? This is a must try.
Gold Leather is still my #1.

  • I am definitely looking for a mood-lifting perfume this time of year, thank you! Sous le toit is my favorite, and I am in the US.

  • Loved the carousel comparison – I recently rode on one with my young daughter, and enjoyed it just as much as she did. One of those pleasures we really don’t grow out of. I’m wild about both the taste and scent of citrus, it’s one of the joys of winter that brighten the long days of January and February, and I’d love to try this fragrance. Haven’t had the opportunity to try any Ateliers yet but am glad for this chance! (I live in the US)

  • Lovely review and illustrations! This winter is just dragging on and on and on … a bright, shimmery mood-lifter could be just what I need! It’s hard to chose a favorite, but I will say Gold Leather.

Thanks for the draw, I’m in the US.

  • Yeah–a ‘sunny citrus scent’!!
    Sounds lovely.\
My favorite, so far, is Trefle Pur, but I would love to try this.
    I am in the U.S.
    Thanks.

  • I love how Susie likens the beauty of Pomelo Paradise to the excitement of a new love and the whimsy of a fairground, as well as the lovely photos included in the review. My favorite Aftelier is Cédrat Enivrant and I would love to try Aftelier’s take on grapefruit. I am in the US. Thank you for the wonderful review and giveaway!

  • I love the mention of amber, as my skin does wonderful thiings with amber. I have found something to like in all these scents, but my favorite is Vanille Insensee. USA

  • Cynthia Richardson says:

Susie’s review of this sunny citrus scent makes me long for spring and this fresh shimmering fragrance. My favorite Atelier fragrance is Rose Anonyme.

  • I’m always interested in new launches by Atelier Cologne and am very happy that they’ve succeeded for the last 5 years!
One part of the review that I enjoyed was the phrase “clouds of pink and peach dissolving into lemonade” – it brought color, scent, visual and taste descriptions all together nicely.
My favorite Atelier is Vanille Incensee. Thank you for the drawing.

  • Thanks to Susie, I shall fall asleep tonight with visions of La Grand Rue swirling in my head! My quest goes on for a grapefruit that suits me, but it sounds as though this could work! My favorite is probably Vanille Incensee, with Orange Sanguine a close secong. Thanks for the chance and I do live in the US.

  • Susie’s description makes this sound perfect: “bittersweet citrus… instantly refreshes the spirit and makes the mouth water.” At the moment my favorite is Vetiver Fatale. Thank you for the draw.
