New Fragrance: L’Artisan Parfumeur Rose Privée (2015) -A Collaboration between Bertrand Duchaufour and Stéphanie Bakouche

RosePriveeBox+Bottle

This April, L’Artisan Parfumeur launches a new Eau de Parfum Rose Privée, which is the first collaboration between Master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and his apprentice (and niche perfumer) Stéphanie Bakouche. The new fragrance is a celebration of Rose de Mai, the much prized flower that is grown in Grasse and that is so fragile that its blooms can be harvested only during the month of May.

According to L’Artisan Parfumeur, “The fragrance itself was created in a unique way with Master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour accompanying his apprentice, Stéphanie Bakouche, an in-house junior perfumer, based in Grasse, who has been an employee of the brand for a number of years. Bertrand shared his passion, knowledge, and talent with Stéphanie guiding her to find the right proportions, and a memorable ‘hook’ to the fragrance. He shared his savoir-faire, helping her to be objective regarding her creation and to build longevity into her fragrance. Through this Eau de Parfum, L’Artisan Parfumeur illustrates its unique approach to perfume-making, with a Master training a new generation perfumer, in the great tradition of French craftsmanship”.

The absolute of May Rose is the central ingredient of Rose Privée, other notes include carnation, magnolia,  lilac, basil and violet leaves, with a base of patchouli and hay, evoking the sun of the South of France.

  • Well, darn it, Rose de Mai is the one rose I can’t stand, but that bottle was made to grace my vanity! :o)

And basil, carnation, violet leaf, hay?? I will bite, no question about it.

  • This sounds lovely and it has a hay which is a note I love. Will definitely check this one out 🙂

  • Who knew he had an apprentice ? I am fond of most roses and excited that a young female perfumer was mentored by the great Bertrand Duchaufour. Hay note sounds promising too.

  • Donna Spiegel says:

Pretty bottle, so feminine. There have been some lovely rose fragrances that have been offered lately, so I’m looking forward to this. Ever since I wore San Francisco Rose which was ever so special (I swear there is a light that just projects, thank you Tama) – Rose has really been something that has gotten my attention lately. It will be interesting to see how the apprentice interprets.
    🙂

  • I am excited! Rose! New L’Artisan! And most importantly, Stephanie Bakouche — I’ve been waiting to smell new work from her ever since my first sniff of the amazing MDCI Invasion Barbare. Thanks for the news.

(One comment: as you’re a US-based site, would it not make sense to convert prices into US Dollars when you put them in print, or have a consistent editorial policy on how you list prices– rather than just copy/pasting from the press release? Thanks.)

  • This sounds like a joyous fragrance. And I’m with those readers who noted how lovely the bottle and label are. Swoon!

  • Fazal Cheema says:

L’Artisan now has quite a lot of rose creations. The moment I saw Stephanie name, I realized she is the one who created Invasion Barbare

  • This one sounds lovely. It’s great that my local Sephora now stocks L’artisan. Hopefully they’ll have this one when it’s released.
