New Fragrance: A DOZEN ROSES + ‘Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves’ Draw

When you spend most of your career as a corporate executive for a large company, there may come a point where the endless meetings, mergers and acquisitions, traveling and late nights may  wear you down. You may  think if I am going to work this hard, I am going to build  a brand of my own. That’s what happened to Sandy Cataldo ( I met Sandy during my  own corporate days) and Lynn Welsh Emmolo, two former Beauty executives (Estee Lauder, Avon, Clinique, Yves St. Laurent and Revlon ) with a penchant for perfume and painting respectively.

Launching exclusively at Neiman Marcus tomorrow. July 17, 2011 their three new fragrances aremarketed  under  the brand  A DOZEN ROSES. Interestingly they chose three  female  Givaudaun  perfumers;  each created one scent with the only commonality the use of  signature100% rose absolu  essence.  Les nez  were given free reign to create the fragrances based on Ms.Emmelo’s original artwork (allowing  the emotion of each rose to  inspire them). The results are unique artisanal scents in stunning flacons that are eye candy as well as nose candy.Ms Cataldo has been an avid perfumista for as long as she can remember.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE Warm. Wonderful. Memorable. Notes: jasmine, gardenia, fresh pear, creamy woods and vanilla. At the heart a beautiful blush rose and A Dozen Roses' signature rose absolut.

GOLD RUSH Sexy. Rich. Wild.  Notes: blackberry, neroli ylang ylang, bittersweet chocolate and ebony woods, all wrapped with the aura of the gold rush rose and oce more using A Dozen Roses' signature rose absolut.

ICED WHITE Icy. Edgy. Effervescent. Notes:white peony, white primrose, osmanthus vanilla, white musk and at the center a fresh white rose and A Dozen Roses' signature rose absolut

  • Oh, I hope they are at my Neiman Marcus, or will come soon! These bottles are gorgeous – what a lovely enterprise. I look forward to sniffing, too, as I enjoy a nice rose.

I wish these lovely ladies all the success in the world! Congratulations on taking the leap!

  • Beautiful bottles, congratulations to Sandy Cataldo and Lynn Welsh Emmolo on these 3 launches. The bottles look amazing…looking forward to trying.

I would love to be entered for the samples. I am glad to hear about more people striking out and making their own business instead of working for someone else – congrats to these entrepreneurs!

  • Goldrush sounds best — ebony, chocolate, blackberry and rose. Beautiful bottles. Congratulations on following your bliss.

  • All three sound wonderful! How exciting to launch a new line after being in the business for so long.

  • Interesting concept, congratulations! All three sound appealing, but if I had to pick one it would be Gold Rush with the blackberry, bittersweet chocolate, and roses.

  • Congratulations and best wishes for your success. Iced White sounds like my kind of rose!

  • Congratulations, Sandy and Lynn, for your vision of beauty and for sharing it with the world! May you enjoy much success in this venture!

Thanks for the generosity and the draw! These roses sounds amazing!

Amazing ladies! I wish you great success so you can carry out the full dream! How wonderful to have so many roses to choose from, and how far you are taking roses from the typical Victorian tea rose business. The bottles are sumptuous–not only are the paintings on them beautiful–they look solid, and have nice finishes.

I love the roses in bloom and in perfumes and look for the high quality ones but haven’t found nearly enough compositions created by women–finally! Between Shakespeare in Love and Gold Rush it’s hard to say which would smell more gorgeous on my skin–maybe Gold Rush. The rose seems like it would be balanced in a way that makes the composition full and mysterious. And I love that this line isn’t charging Private Exclusive niche-riche prices!

  • Congratulations to Sandy and Lynn on this wonderful collaboration. I love the idea of combining a love for perfume with a love for art. The bottles are beautiful.
I am intrigued by Gold Rush and with chocolate in the composition it is sure to be the rose that smells the sweetest. 🙂

Best Wishes to Lynn and Sandy. All three sound extremely appealing however Iced White is calling my name.

  • I tried the closest NM and they do not carry it (it’s not only NM exclusive but also limited to some locations) 🙁

I’d like to try all of them but Gold Rush sounds the most interesting to me.

  • Exciting launch! I adore roses in perfumes- with 2000 et Une Rose by Lancome as my beloved composition. Looking forward to testing this new line, hopefully they will be available in Europe soon. Good luck with your project!

  • Smelled these at Neiman Marcus yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about them! Gold Rush was the best with Iced White a close second. Congratulations, ladies, on your fragrances and I wish you two the best!

  • Congrats to Sandy and Lynn for following your dreams. The bottles are stunning and the perfumes sound exquisite. Rose perfumes are my latest love and Gold Rush sounds very me. Would love to be in the draw as well…

I am so excited about these! Neiman Marcus does have them on their website for purchase. They sound heavenly!
Congrats on your launch! May all your dreams come true!

I would like to congratulate these ladies on their new launch and wish them much success with it. It is hard to tell which is “sweetest” but I’ll go with Shakespeare in Love. I am glad that more perfume houses are breaking away from the same old routine.

  • Congratulations on the launch of these new perfumes! I hope they are really successful.
I envy women who are able to make their dreamt business come true.
I think that, according to the description, Gold Rush is the sweetest, but my favorite could be Iced White.

  • Congratulations on following your passion and sharing the smell of roses with those who love perfume as much as you do!

My favorite one from the descriptions is Iced White. I had an all-white bouquet centered around white roses for my wedding.

  • I think the Shakespeare in Love may be sweet, like Love at the first bloom but Gold Rush sounds like fun, the names are great and its always a buzz to see sisters doing it for themselves! Congratulations!

  • here’s a funny thing. I worked with Sandy Cataldo at one time. Not for long and not that she would remember me but I had a lot of EL/Revlon/YSL contacts in the early days of my online experience.. and she was one of them. Not surprising and yet I am so glad they did it for themselves & not corporate giant because they control it.
Also.. I think the names are fun, interesting and I think they bring out the best of the entrepreneurial spirit.
Would love to try the Gold Rush simply because it speaks to me most.. but this is a line I can see hitting my blog..
thanks for the great interview Michelyn!
