There is in Oklahoma a Sylva Pagana or “woodland, country dweller” named Delaney Martin who creates natural aromas (and other body products) with names and aromas which tell a story without ever speaking a word. It's a Medieval wonderland just after obeying the command “Smell Me”. Adding to the theme and by way of spreading the folklore- Delaney goes on tour to Renaissance Fairs*, with her husband and collection of Sylva Pagana poetry.

Even the familiar raven and transporting artwork is the craft of Delaney, and this raven invites us to indulge “evermore.”

Immersing myself in the world of Sylva Pagana, I found myself in Ancient Oak– a light filled aroma; I thought this must be a tincture of what the tree said to a boy 20 years before he found himself to be a Druid priest. The top notes incorporate a sustainable rosewood, showing reverence for  elven. The forest is alive, protecting the endangered tree, and much of the mission of the humans behind this pagan forest.

The captain's boots a seaweed stained leather, oakmoss and cognac stained from nights in seaport debauchery. The Captain's Blend is at once cypriol leather and wood- captain and his ship, but pink peppercorn and seaweed absolute add a floral and saline touch. A wild soul has groomed himself, but there is still the musk of man untamed by water or woman. Cocoa and patchouli add sweetness for a sailor in an otherwise salty world. This is a fairy tale pirate, the kind of villainy which touches the heart and induces compassion for the wave tossed wayward soul.

There are many more inhabitants of these woods, including Damsel, whose floral beauty and neroli color deepen with age, the Black Rose whose kingdom seems to contain literal droplets of her petals and a solid perfume called Satyr, for moments when touch and closeness are the moral of the story.

  • Sylva Pagana sounds enchanting! I followed the link to their website, too. Who’d have thought it would come out of Oklahoma, a land-locked state? Ancient Oak sounds oh-so-wonderful to me, so I’d choose that if I had the good fortune to win. In the US, on the Atlantic ocean, where I could imagine a ship’s worth of folks would wear these happily. Cheeers!

Einsof, have a great hiatus, and then come back and give us more like this: “this must be a tincture of what the tree said to a boy 20 years before he found himself to be a Druid priest” More, more! I’m in the US, and of course I want Ancient Oak. I too want to listen to the trees.

  • I enjoyed the Captain Blood photo. I would love the 10ml of Captain’s Blend. Lookng forward to the seaweed note. I hope I’d be transformed into a fairy tale pirate. USA

I am intrigued by Captain’s Blend which is leather but has floral and saline elements, too. Einsof also thinks this is the fragrance of a fairy tale pirate. I loved Einsof’s whole review but his narration about nature and fairy tale style thrilled me 🙂 while I traveled in different eras with The Captain’s Blend’s description “….is at once cypriol leather and wood- captain and his ship, but pink peppercorn and seaweed absolute add a floral and saline touch. A wild soul has groomed himself, but there is still the musk of man untamed by water or woman. Cocoa and patchouli add sweetness for a sailor in an otherwise salty world. This is a fairy tale pirate, the kind of villainy which touches the heart and induces compassion for the wave tossed wayward soul….” simply amazing.
I live in EU and I would love to try Satyr.
