Those red soles… those spike heels; Christian Louboutin is THE name in luxury shoes. Most of us ladies cannot afford a pair, but good news for fans of the brand, as the King of French Footwear is launching a line of nail polishes and will venture into other beauty and color cosmetics. According to WWD, back in 1992, surveying one design from his third signature footwear collection, Christian Louboutin was dismayed that the actual shoe wasn’t as colorful and compelling as his original sketch, especially underneath. And so he snatched a jar of nail varnish from an assistant, who howled in protest, and his famous red soles were born.
According to WWD, The signature color Rouge Louboutin, is scheduled to go on sale today in the U.S. on the eighth floor at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship in New York and the 15 Louboutin boutiques Saks will devote five display windows to the launch, with each filled with a display of an imaginary city, called Loubiville, whose structural shapes give hints of products to come. The rest of Louboutin’s U.S. distribution — the remainder of Saks doors, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom and select Sephora stores (yes Sephora!) — will unveil the Rouge nail polish on Aug. 6, and the remaining 30 shades will be available throughout the U.S. distribution on Aug. 31.
At $50, the polish is uber-pricey, and almost as painful as pointy toed, 6 inch stilettos, but you know we have to have at least one. For years, fashion savvy gals have been painting their nails black with red underneath to emulate a Louboutin mani. Polish fetish vs Shoe Fetish. Nails always win with me since I need to walk without falling on my face. Color Cosmetics will follow soon, so will fragrance be next?
