MUGLER Aura (Daphne Bugey, Amandine Clerc-Marie, Christophe Raynaud and Marie Salamagne) 2017 + Wild at Heart Draw

MUGLER Aura perfume photo by Robert H

MUGLER Aura perfume will be available for sale in the USA as of December 14, 2017. I had a bottle sent earlier this fall from Europe and it sits in my hand like a small faceted emerald heart, practically alive, beating with its’ own inherent energy and reminds me that in the heart of beauty a little poison lurks. The flacon itself is flat-out terrific, a green heart of darkness if you will, and reason enough to love Aura.

Thierry Mugler once dreamed he would create a fragrance named Aura. He is the visionary behind Aura, which "recounts the genesis of my other perfumes. I looked for a universal symbol common to all living things. The animalistic and mystic power of life. The M shaped heart imposed itself; a perfume is nothing without the heart." –Thierry Mugler. The name starts with an “A” just as Mugler predecessors Angel, A*men, and Alien.

MUGLER Aura may not be the easiest or the most approachable of the MUGLER fragrances I suspect, but it is outrageous and compelling. From the beautiful bright green flacon, to the unique ingredients and neo-aromachemicals used, MUGLER Aura brings to mind a perfume that might be worn by the “bad girls/ boys)” of the world or those who are distinctly different and follow their own path. This is the perfume that you can imagine the two misunderstood witches, green-skinned Elphaba from “Wicked “and “Sleeping Beauty’s” villainess Maleficent wearing. MUGLER Aura  will be relished by those who consider being an outsider or different a character trait to be cherished not punished.

Two new ingredients from Firmenich© are used in MUGLER Aura, and they provide the perfume with undeniable intrigue and drama; Tiger Liana© and Wolfs Wood©. Tiger Liana is found in traditional Chinese medicine which has both sweet and dusty-smoke facets, and Wolfs Wood provides a dry patchouli/cedar-woody vibe with a scintilla of something a bit carnal and a hint of oud. MUGLER Aura opens with a rush of orange blossom made sweetly bitter with the poisonous rhubarb leaf, as if to proclaim innocence while hiding a venomous kiss. This opening is like a magic spell that absolutely fascinates and captivates me and I can’t stop sniffing my wrist trying to deconstruct it. The Tiger Liana, with that honey-like medicinal and slight whiff of incense adds sweetness and an almost-but-not-quite overbearing and odd chemical/synthetic feeling. That may sound unsettling to you, but curiously it works incredibly well in its unique and mysterious way. These notes never disappear completely, but ultimately fade to the background as MUGLER Aura settles down into a delightful wood, musk, and vanilla gourmand.

MUGLER Aura is the perfect scent to wear in the dark, or while howling at the full moon on a chilly winter’s night. It has a magical quality to it that leaves me totally enchanted. It’s both familiar and oddly different, and for me that equates perfection.

Notes: rhubarb leaf, tiger liana©, orange blossom, bourbon vanilla, wolfs wood©

  • I am a big fan of Womanity! Which is misunderstood I think. This sounds enchanting and that bottle is gorgeous- is love to try it! Thanks!

  • I have tried a sample of Aura and Robert’s review captures the ‘weirdness’ inherent in all Mugler scents. Glad to hear it’s finally arriving in the states. I particularly love all Alien flankers…they all share the original Alien DNA but each has their own flavor. Thank you for the opportunity…I am in the US.

Mmm, I have been waiting and waiting for this to be released in the US! That bottle is awesome. My favorite TM is Alien, but I love how all of them don’t follow mainstream – they add a real twist, not just in the ad copy. Thanks for the fabulous draw. I’m in the USA.

  • Nice descriptive review by Robert. Like to try this out. Bottle ins pretty looking. Seems to smell good as well. Haven’t tried too many Mugler fragrances but one I like is Pure Malt. Thanks U.S.

  • Aura is going to make me forget I’m not buying just for the bottle any more! Stunning! Robert makes the jus sounds great, as well, though; I am not usually a fan of musk, but who knows what might happen under the enchantment of a full moon and venomous kiss?!

  • oldandsmelly says:

I liked Roberts description of Aura’s notes and how it develops. I like patch and Chinese medicine scents and that Robert classifies it as as a gourmand is intriguing. My favorite Mugler perfume is Angel and my favorite misunderstood villainess is Julie Bindel.

I live in the USA, thanks for the draw.

  • Gabriel Gallawa says:

This sounds incredibly interesting. My wife loves Alien and Angel both. I love them both on her. We’d both really like her to be able to give this a shot.

  • That bottle! Robert’s description of the opening is intriguing. I enjoy fragrances with odd sounding note combinations that somehow work. As for a favorite Mugler, I fell for Angel Muse as soon as I tried it.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Wondered how this was going to turn out! I didn’t expect it would be sweet, smoky, woody all in one! I enjoy most things Mugler so I’m dying to try this one. My favorite is probably Cologne though I like smelling Alien, Angel, and AMen, esp. the liquer Angel and Alien and AMen Pure Havane. I went through periods of wearing each but can’t really do so anymore as they are quite strong! Thanks for the draw.

  • This sounds RIGHT up my daughter’s alley…although honestly it sounds like something I’d end up stealing from her and wearing myself. Favorite Mugler is a toughy — but I’m going with B*Men. Or maybe Pure Chili. 🙂

  • I have great respect for Mugler because they are never afraid to experiment whether it was Angel, Alien, Womanity, and now Aura. Their decision to use two new creations Tiger Liana© and Wolfs Wood© also support innovation because it encourages companies to come out with new molecules. If every house adopts Mugler’s approach, this hobby will be so much more fun cause we will expect to be surprised. Thanks for the generous draw. My favorite Mugler is Angel extrait. I am in the US.

  • I’m very intrigued by Tiger Liana, and the combination of orange blossom and rhubarb leaf. And the bottle is amazing. My favorite Mugler is Alien. I am in the US.

  • Richard Potter says:

Sounds most unusual. The medicinal aspect intrigues me, the gourmand gives me pause, but I’m down with weird. The bottle is a stunner.

  • Wow… The narrative used by Robert to describe this fragrance, sounds absolutely STUNNING!! When Robert proclaimed the that the mix of the Orange blossom and the poisonous rhubarb leaf was like hiding venomous kiss, I was absolutely floored. I’m a HUGE fan of the Mugler house. I wear the entire A*MEN line, both make and female. And all the flankers. I love Angel Muse and the sugary sweetness mixed with the “Mugler” DNA, And Alien as well, with it’s floral take on essence of Mugler! This fragrance, Aura sounds like it creates just that. A beautiful Aura that becomes an extension of you. I live in Philadelphia PA!

  • Chocolate Marzipan says:

What appeals to me about Robert’s review is that gorgeous photo he took of the bottle as well as the two new ingredients in Aura. Favorite Mugler is the original Angel which I bought and wore when it first debuted. I reside in the USA

  • james weaver says:

The notes seem intriguing I hope the fragrance is unisex and not to feminine. Robert’s review is very alluring the way he describes the fragrance uniqueness and drydown is amazing. I live in Virginia USA

  • I ordered a sample and will order a bottle on the 14th
I really liked the ad campaign and in general like most Mugler perfumes
I guess I would pick Angel Taste of Fragrance so I am really curious about the gourmand notes. Aura has been getting mixed reviews but I think based on Roberts review I really would like it
    The bottle is so cool
My favorite villainess is marvel elektra

  • The way this is written is wonderful. It really makes you feel how unique this is. From the notes descriptions to the feel of the bottle, super cool. Pheromone by Thierry Mugler was one of my all time favorites when it first was released. What a head turner that scent was. Angel and various Angel flankers are nice, but you need to really be careful how much you wear. Would love to try this one.
thanks. I’m in US and registered.

  • The bottle is breathtaking!! And the description of the 2 new ingredients have me incredibly intrigued. This is on my wishlist and hope to be able to test it out before Christmas. I WANT!!!
I live in Lords Valley, PA

  • I know I will love Aura perfume from Robert’s description. I consider being different a character trait to be cherished! My favorite Muglers are Angel Violette and Lily Angel which have discontinued and I’m forced to use sparingly. Thank you for this draw. I’m in the U.S.

  • Howling at the moon is nowhere near my style, but maybe this is the potion that would do it. Rhubarb leaf and a vanilla gourmand dry-down sound delicious in any case. I have yet to find a Mugler that works for me, but maybe this could be the one? I live in the US and thank you for the chance.

  • I particularly enjoyed Robert’s poet descriptions like “rush of orange blossom made sweetly bitter with the poisonous rhubarb leaf” It paints a scent picture that conjures up visions of aromatic vanilla. Much like Hypnotic Poison by Christian Dior. Thank you for the opportunity and continued success.

  • This was my favorite line of the review… “This opening is like a magic spell that absolutely fascinates and captivates me and I can’t stop sniffing my wrist trying to deconstruct it.” My favorite Mugler fragrance is Pure Malt. Thank you!

  • I love woody, spicy perfumes, as well as orange blossom, and Angel is too sweet and gourmand for me, so maybe this will be a winner!

  • I love being an outsider. I definitely follow my own path and completely accept I will walk it alone more often than not. I love the smell of Chinese medicine shops, so I’m sure I’d like this scent. I like Angel. I live in the USA.

  • My favorite Mugler is classic Angel. I’d love to sniff the tiger liana and wolfs wood notes, the description was amazing!
    Thanks for the draw! USA

  • My favorite Mugler perfume is Wonder Bouquet. I enjoyed Roberts description of the two new aromachemicals and how it interacted with the rest of the composition. Thank you for the opportunity to win a bottle of Aura.(usa)

  • The description of the scent is amazing, and the bottle is absolutely stunning. I love Alien and all of its flankers, don’t really have a favorite among them. Angel does not play well with my body chemistry. I loved the description of innocence with a poisonous kiss – i can just imagine how the chemicals mix and then settle down into the musky, vanilla base.
Thank you for this very generous draw! I would love to win this and proudly display on my dresser. I’m in the US.
